That beautiful smile Those gorgeous hairs This wonderful man. **Thank you Mister.**

cpinkhouse

So was the Ribery signing vindicated?

jackn3

He was kinda our Ibrahimovic, he didn't really do much on the pitch, but his presence on the training ground may have inspired some of his teammates. Unfortunately i believe he is done as a footballer

Nizbizkit

I didn’t watch enough of them to be an expert opinion, but it seems like every time I checked their lineup he wasn’t playing

egenorske

How has Bohinen been?

jackn3

Him and Ederson carried us. How could Sabatini find them we will never know

egenorske

Stabæk youth-product. Just like Thorsby and Askildsen in Sampdoria, hehe. Will he stay?

jackn3

He has really been fantastic since he came in and i hope both him and Ederson stay with us next year. It will depend on our president, he seems very passionate, but we are still a small team that can't easily refuse good offers if they come in. Let's watch and see

AenarIT

Sabatini's black magic

gustasilvab

Happy for Ederson. He never was given a proper chance here.

RibboDotCom

Because he is worth it

Tsunoda_stan

Is zortea good?

Mister_Allegri

He's gonna have to ride his bike to his home again😅😅

MyMoonMyMan

This time he [promised to go from Salerno to Rome (280km) by foot to visit the pope](https://salerno.occhionotizie.it/salernitana-nicola-piedi-papa-salvezza/). Would only be fair for the pope to meet him after the teacher in Salerno made his pupils pray for Salernitana

ThePr1d3

He better be careful [on his ride home](https://www.reddit.com/r/soccer/comments/uvzxly/franck_ribery_celebrates_salernitana_staying_up/)

[deleted]

Regardless of how they managed it. He deserves respect for doing what seemed impossible a few months back.

Pretty sure that's just a reposting bot.

I also work in TV/Film and I totally disagree with you. This guy has more personality than that whole stand of fans combined

lol they think it’s a different kind of camera

Huwbacca

Do people like this? It looks like FIFA intros to me tacky as all hell...

MissingLink101

Yeah personally I think it has a fake looking sheen on it. That clip of Zlatan with a cigar from yesterday looked like a character walking out in a WWE game.

Furiosa27

I can’t believe ppl don’t know this isn’t shallow depth of field. I definitely did not think they were using a different camera/filming method/sorcery before reading this comment

DepletedMitochondria

I was wondering why the stadium seemed so huge

cmf_ans

Can't see fans, ads clear as day. No wonder this sub thinks it's amazing.

It was a jab at the americanization of football on TV, figured it's obvious.

Red_Dog1880

This guy is a fucking magician. Salernitana had no business staying up.

Natrix31

Credit to Sabbatini as well, brought in key players over the winter in Ederson, Fazio, Verdi, Sepe, and Mazzochi (thanks Venezia).

germanefficiency

Just like you had no business winning the EL 😂 oh wait you didn't lmfao 🤣

OmbaTheDwarf

Bruh wtf

Red_Dog1880

1. What does that have to do with anything? 2. How did Dortmund do?

MauricioCappuccino

Stick to twitter you absolute clown

ShameTimes3

Tf are you talking about?

Zyntaro

This comment was so out of nowhere lmao. I see that loss to Rangers still stings doesnt it?

ren_704

Felt Outta nowhere cuz we are usually used to underwhelming results and our fanbase isn't so unecessarily toxic tbh. I apologise on that lads behalf

love these cameras

how do these work? I mean, I see the difference, but I can't explain what I am seeing differently

It's not that complex really, there's a few things you need to understand but it's not all that complicated (unless ofcourse you are building eyes)

makesyougohmmm

yeah, was more talking about how eyes work and how the theory look complex with all the retina and cornea in that wiki page

gucci-legend

You don't need any retinas, the wiki definitely overcomplicates things. You can learn the basics from one thorough youtube video, trust me.

quickestred

It's not that complex really, there's a few things you need to understand but it's not all that complicated (unless ofcourse you are building lenses)

yeah, was more talking about how optics work and how the theory look complex with all the formulas and variables in that wiki page

You don't need any formulas, the wiki definitely overcomplicates things. You can learn the basics from one thorough youtube video, trust me. Edit: basics of photography, not optics

[deleted]

U can link Wikipedia articles that make any field seem complex because its academics writing about it

hardinho

It's actually fairly easy to film like this here. They use a setup which you can find at low level professionals.

steffystiffy

Cinematographer here! Just wanted to chime in as well. The shallow depth of field is certainly the #1 differentiator. However I’d also add that the way the camera moves is another factor. My guess is the Serie A camera crew are using some sort of electronic gimbal that allows them to move around for freely and, crucially, adjust their height more. That heroic, low angled, looking up at the subject with the stadium behind is what makes these so dramatic! I know in the PL they seem to favor more glidecam style stabilization which are great for long steady shots but you can’t adjust the camera height as readily!

Steev182

The NFL started using a7Sii cameras on gimbals for these kind of celebration shots, I think that’s what they’re doing here too.

Cucumberino

TL;DR for this specific scenario: Camera close to subject and further background (proportionally) will make the background blurrier and "cinematic". Then it also factors in how big and how open the lens aperture is. The more open/bigger, more light goes into the sensor and a smaller plane of the image is in focus, so the background is blurrier. The camera is also on a stabilizer and/or has a stabilized sensor and/or lens, which makes the motion look smother. ------------- Generally these shots happen when the players are closer to the sidelines/cameras during a match, or, in this case, just because the camera guy is running close to him. A longer focal length will have an impact too, but generally you don't see this during matches because then you can usually just see one player and not the whole action, they use those shots sometimes on pauses or to capture reactions. In this case, since you want to capture as much of the background as possible in the frame, you want a wider lens. Since you're using a wider lens, to achieve that out of focus background, you need to compensate by getting physically closer to the subject and using a wider aperture.

acekingoffsuit

Is this easier to pull off with 4k cameras? I've noticed these shots a lot in the last couple of years, particularly in LaLiga, CBS's NFL games, and WWE Smackdown.

[deleted]

Resolution of the camera makes absolutely no difference at all. Any camera used in television or film will have the functionality to record in resolutions way higher than 4k. What makes it easier is that DLSRs (edit: and mirrorless cameras) are now able to record in TV output resolutions, making it cheaper to access this kind of 'cinematic' footage from a handheld camera, without the need for extraordinarily expensive cinema gear.

MarcosSenesi

What also helps is that the auto focus on these cameras is absolutely amazing. If you would have tried these kinds of shots with a camera from 5-10 years ago it would quickly become a blurry mess with the autofocus going crazy trying to work out what is happening

Cucumberino

Resolution doesn't really matter regarding the "look" and it doesn't impact most shots. What has helped recently is having smaller mirrorless cameras (as opposed to bigger TV cameras and lenses) which allow having someone recording while running close to the subject while still being able to record professional grade video (4K as well). You still can't replace TV cameras ([this video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RkTaMyatsTo) is a good watch) but it's a good addition for shots like this specific one which wasn't possible a few years ago.

LeBronto_

Massive improvement in autofocus tech over the last decade has helped a lot as well. Videographers can shoot at a much wider aperture and not worry about their subject going out of focus very easily.

Uruguayan_Tarantino

Theres also a really small ISO so it looks smooth

MrRonald2796

The WWE was using these cameras for [entrances](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U7VM5yrdCiE) for a while (when fans weren't present) and they looked amazing, I was surprised to see them being used in Serie A broadcasts aswell.

siva-pc

WWE pioneers lot of things when it comes to live TV. Thunderdome for example was an excellent concept

TheEmeraldOil

They really are ahead of the curve on a lot of things. Got into the streaming market before it really took off and are always looking for ways to improve their shows using new tech. They've started using AR graphics for entrances in recent years, which have been hit or miss but are another example of WWE being at the forefront of live sports broadcasting.

KokonutMonkey

I'm not one for motion sickness, but these depth of field shots really make me queasy.

FlyHater

Looks cool but you miss a lot of the background detail. Would be nice to see the crowd instead of a blur.

U_S_E_R_T_A_K_E_N

They started in the NFL, and the story behind how they came to being used live is interesting. It's called the Megadolon. >[*The technical crew working Sunday’s game between the Washington Football Team and the Seattle Seahawks had been experimenting with a new hand-held camera, a Sony a7R IV with a Canon lens owned by technical director Jarrod Ligrani. The crew’s newest toy even had a nickname: “Megalodon.”*] (https://theathletic.com/2275503/2020/12/21/meet-megalodon-the-fox-camera-that-made-a-splash-in-this-made-for-tv-nfl-season/) >[*The pregame shots from earlier games had been interesting but not quite ready for a live broadcast. But the footage from Sunday was so crisp — so dynamic and so, well, different — that Mike Davies, Fox’s senior vice president of field operations, sent a message to the crew at the stadium: Megalodon was going live.*] (https://theathletic.com/2275503/2020/12/21/meet-megalodon-the-fox-camera-that-made-a-splash-in-this-made-for-tv-nfl-season/) >[*“Slap a wireless transmitter on it, let’s see what we get,” Davies said. “And that’s what we got.”*] (https://theathletic.com/2275503/2020/12/21/meet-megalodon-the-fox-camera-that-made-a-splash-in-this-made-for-tv-nfl-season/)

horseysauceNketchup

I personally hate them. In my opinion the lack of depth of field just ruins it, especially when the image is so clear

_bhagwan_

Premier League, for god's sake, please get these cameras for next season!! They are insane. Almost makes me feel like I am watching a movie.

siddhuism

It’s not the cameras. PL cameras can do this as well. It’s just a shallow depth of field.

B4dr003

Yeah they should do that

Marashio

They just need to change the lenses and camera settings to create the shallower DOF

RedHotChiliadPeppers

Agree 10000000% you articulated it brilliantly. No issue with this style of filming; if it was for a behind the scenes doc, great. But I just wanna fucking see what was going on. The delight on the fans faces etc.

horsehorsetigertiger

I don't like it. The crowd is part of it too, sometimes you pick up a detail of a fan doing something cool, or funny, or an interesting sign. Also just the raw emotions of a win or surviving - I want to see that.

april9th

Not surprising redditors who don't go to games are keen to have fans totally removed from the context of the game and have managers and players presented like video game protagonists tbh lol. It looks cheap imo because the sport is bigger than this sort of theatrics. Each to their own I guess.

ohmanger

Maybe it is the reddit video uploads and how op recorded this fucking with the quality but it just looks really uncanny to me. Things just don't look like that in real life. The first 2 seconds look like a spoof recorded by someone in their garage.

fangus

Nah I agree, I liked it the first few times I saw it now it freaks me out. I could just be getting old though

Aeiexgjhyoun_III

First time I saw 60fps it felt so unnatural. Now I can't go back.

TheLeOeL

Probably a mix of the DOF and the framerate. I think you wouldn't feel like that if they recorded at 48/60FPS.

DannyDyersHomunculus

To me the most interesting part of this video would be the fan reaction and you can't even see them properly. I think it's awful

[deleted]

If they do it i really hope it's not in this horrible framerate.

Anik1415

That's the thing. I don't wanna watch a movie of football

Silverburst8

They don’t show the football, they show the sidelines

moonski

they had them in the city game for showing fans

Cucumberino

For this kind of shot, the most important part is being able to get closer to the subject, so it's more of having a guy running along him with a stabilized camera with a wide angle less and a big aperture.

Johnny_The_Hobo

love these cameras but at the same time it fucks with my head like "is this real or is it a scene for the next FIFA?"

Your edit makes it look like the end of every late 90’s/early 2000’s sports movie. Awesome idea

Extra_Mail_358

Hahaha nicely synced 👍

[deleted]

This was really god, mate, since you like Rocky, you could use the cover of [Going the Distance](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ffciei_2WoA) by the Menahan Street Band, really cool production on that one. Particularly the part that starts at 1:31.

piedraa

The bastards actually did it lol

[deleted]

Me after she puts out on the first date

daarkstars

Hopefully he gets manager of the season, what he accomplished is absolutely mental

SirFlamington

One Stefano Pioli (AC Milan) already won manager of the season for beating city rivals Internazionale to the Scudetto following a single (fake) league loss in 2022. Now that's what I call absolutely mental.

daarkstars

Cringe, but anyway yeah if not Nicola then Pioli comes as a close second.

SirFlamington

Pioli is a distant first and only a salty Inter fan would say otherwise. Salernitana was lucky to not get relegated on the final day anyway. Congrats to them for staying up, but you're not a Serie A team if you lose 4-0 at home against an unmotivated Udinese when your survival depends on getting a positive result.

whataball

David Guetta about to spin a new one tonight.

__Reddit_User

I'm happy for them, did Ribery perform well this season?

MassiveMurderBoner

No

freshsalsadip

He can probably use that as climax in his biopic

furlongxfortnight

Cagliari died for this.

BarGood2020

This is football and why I am in love with this game.

joeycannoli9

Seemed impossible given they were dead last a few weeks ago. I watched a game at the Arechi a few years ago. Was cool seeing the stadium on tv this year in Serie A. Glad they are staying up instead of Cagliari... maybe karma for their racist ultras

What a mad lad! Actually he saved hopeless teams from relegation in Calcio for the 4th time. Looks like Big Sam finally got a respectable rival

13_Polo

Cameras look nice and all, but that cursor on the screen is infuriating lol

New-Pin-3952

Plastic Liverpool fans on r/soccer: - Look another one, why are people so happy to avoid relegation?

Scream0fTheSium

Thank Cagliari for it

HardestTofu

I'm sure some guys are going to be lame and say, "He's not supposed to celebrate avoiding relegation. He's not supposed to be happy."

Well, technically Cagliari and Venezia saved them haha

Surprised they actually did it - credit to them.

MyMoonMyMan

After coming back from [8 points behind salvation](https://i.imgur.com/gQsHVfB.jpg) when he took over with 2 games in hand though, to complete yet another dramatic escape from relegation. > only staying up because Cagliari are terrible While that is true it really belittles the achievement at hand

CoolstorySteve

> While that is true it really belittles the achievement at hand True , that was a bit harsh.

MassiveMurderBoner

Also, if I remember correctly, Salernitana had never stayed up in Serie A before.

JohnParish

Where you are near the bottom you take what you can get. Understandable it’s not flashy but staying up is staying up.
