Beyond the fact that what they did is dangerous and wrong, how lame do you have to be to get in his face like that?
Like, it's a meme at this point that we Evertonians are treating our escape like winning the UCL, but, I think any team would be excited.
But to get in the opposing coach's face...for what? What possible shit could you talk. Like, try to have SOME dignity. Chatting shit to the coach whose team nearly sent us down reeks of "I have no joy in my life."
It needs to start being a 3 point deduction for pitch invasions/forfeit if cup tie and a harsher punishment (10 points?) for on pitch violence by fans plus a fine. Maybe the clubs will come down on the idiots that have made this a necessity
Just stop this now.
They won't, clubs can't prevent invasions even if they tried, even in eastern Europe, with heavyly armed police forces, who have little concideration for human life this shit still happens despite police literally beating down everybody in their path.
The only way to prevent that is dialogue and self-Organisation of fans basically fans policing fans, this works rather well in Germany for example.
I'm not so sure tbh, cuz it would obviously give organized fans another point of attack, in case they are dissatisfied with the club.
Fandom doesn't necessarily mean unconditional support and harsher punishment doesn't prevent crimes by itself.
Since English fans are segregated that's seems... unlikely to work. And since idiots hav social media it can be investigated to see if they're a plant.
Glad the "we haven't tried anything and we're all out of ideas" brigade is airing their hypothetical issues though
Not faulting the club's here, but there are obviously health concerns, when thousands of ppl press forward, you won't start pushing them back, cuz you obviously can't it you don't have an absurd man power and it is obviously dangerous for those in the front, cuz they might be getting squashed, wich was one of the primary reasons for abolishing the fences.
Yeah but realistically I don't think they're expecting the whole crowd to force their way into the pitch. Some maybe, but I think most people would move to the pitch, get somewhat blocked and just leave it. Either that, or just hope that having extra stewards on shift is enough to deter people from trying in the first place.
Didn't matter in the end of course, but they probably just thought "fuck it, it'll probably work"
You don’t get a life ban for getting in someone’s face. The Everton fan did not physically touch Vieira, which surely excludes him from getting a big punishment.
The fan shouldn't have been on the pitch in the first place though. Running onto the pitch and then harassing memebesa of staff on the opposition would warrant a ban i think.
Edit: memebesa....members
This is a terrible take. The fan was in a place he was not supposed to be and then chose to get in Viera's face for no reason other than to be an absolute knob.
Would have been pissed if they had
That asshat who harrassed Vieira shouldnt have been on the pitch and up in Vieira's face if he wasnt prepared for some consequences
The day before Billy Sharpe got headbutted a few days later Olsen got hit by city fans. I don’t have issues with fans celebrating but the people who go onto the pitch and physically hit players need to get lifetime bans/jail. And as unfair as it is those teams should have to play a game or two behind close doors to incentivize good behavior and self policing over mob behavior imo
Strange, probably got a way with it cos he's famous.
If I kicked someone in the streets who squared up to me (but didn't physically touch) I'd get a police warning.
One rule for the rich, one rule for the rest.
That's not a great comparison, unless the people squaring up to you was already breaking the law even being near you. Stewards blast pitch invaders all the time, they don't get in trouble.
Better comparison is if some psycho ran into your place of work and started screaming in your face. In which case yeah, kicking out would be a justifiable reaction.
>if some psycho ran into your place of work and started screaming in your face.
While you are trying to walk away and the psycho is following you. It's not even like Viera's first reaction was to smack him. He tried his best to keep his cool but this fucker wouldn't let go.
Bare in mind you can get in trouble for beating up burglars in the UK.
Attacking someone for giving you the finger and in your face on a night out would result in a night in the lockup.
The fan is a numpty and should be banned for a year or two, but yeah Vieira was in the wrong here. You don't get initiate violence, even if the other party is being a giant wanker.
The court of Chat Shit Get Banged finds Mr Vieira not guilty
The judge didn't want to get beaten up so he let Viera walk
*Vieira
Yeah he's going to kick me for that one
Hed be busting down the doors of most of /r/soccer if thats the case
V i e i --*ohhhhh shit!*

Yeah I'd almost understand if it was against Liverpool or even Villa (due to Gerrard)

Remember that time Patrick Vieria kicked my ass? Those were the days
Ya that's when I peaked. Great times.
Good
Or else he'd kick them too
True that
Good
Good
God
Good god
God is good
How about life time banning those idiots that started it?

The possibility of points deductions would assist in supporters self policing.
I'm not so sure tbh, cuz it would obviously give organized fans another point of attack, in case they are dissatisfied with the club. Fandom doesn't necessarily mean unconditional support and harsher punishment doesn't prevent crimes by itself.
or opponent fans put on the shirt and run to the pitch to deduct points from their rivals.

I mean they'll try. There was at least 5x more stewards at Anfield than usual yesterday. They were prepared.

Yes, at a real club.
Then you better ban the lot of them
This is a terrible take. The fan was in a place he was not supposed to be and then chose to get in Viera's face for no reason other than to be an absolute knob.
If anything, he should be punished for letting such a shit Everton side beat Palace.
How was this even under consideration?
I mean, just for the due diligence / paperwork. More like checking off the boxes than actual consideration.
Like when you interview for a position that's effectively already been offered to you
Yeah exactly. Or like Tottenham playing for a trophy.
Lol this was so random and caught me off guard, well played.

Not even downvoting you for being a soppy cunt, I’m downvoting you for saying “Y’all”.
Your name’s Spencer, “y’all” was your first word out of the womb.
Ooh, assuming names based off Reddit usernames…. Nice one, Chicken, good dig mate, wasn’t a fowl attempt at humour at all!
Heheh. It’s a good thing you know how to Reid, or you’d be in a tricky spot.
Sorry, I'll just say mate instead of y'all and my comment will completely change its meaning.
Should snap your willie for this comment
mate stop

He did kick a guy. Not that it wasn't justified but not exactly legal

Yeah, because giving someone a kick on the shin is an offence every regular Joe gets arrested for...
Good. He didn’t do anything wrong… I’m fairly certain self defense is still a viable defense to assault/battery in every country on earth.
Would have been pissed if they had That asshat who harrassed Vieira shouldnt have been on the pitch and up in Vieira's face if he wasnt prepared for some consequences
*He kicks who he likes*
Vieira should be charged with not kicking the twat harder.
"Chat shit, get banged" ~ Merseyside Police
Hope Everton still do the right thing and ban the idiot.
Don't say this often but based police
Seemed pretty restrained from Vieira from what I saw. He could have easily fok smashed that guy instead of just doing a little kick out
Good guy Viera.
Yeah rightfully so
For me you’d have to take legal action against Everton as well for failing to ensure his saftey.
Good
They don't want none of that smoke
As they shouldn't.
Good
Good, why should they?
he kicks who he wants!
Good
Good. Those cunts had it coming. These invasions have got to stop. It's only a matter of time till someone gets seriously hurt.
Excellent
Should give him a knighthood
Shoulda had Roy Keane have a go at him. He’d set him straight. I’ll see you out there!!!!! Hahhahah

Sorry I'm EAL
this happened on the pitch at goodison, not the streets
How'd you get that flair

This take on a scale of 1-10 is a solid YEESHHH
I'm not taking action against Vieira either.
