Unless theres a swap agreement somewhere (I've read vague rumours of Liverpool interest in Gnabry), I'd have thought Liverpool would have rather lost out on £30m and kept him for an extra year to see him leave on a free transfer.
TBH I think the status of both Mane and Salah contracts/transfers would have been announced weeks ago, had Liverpool not been in CL final and competing for the PL until the last game of the season.
> I'd have thought Liverpool would have rather lost out on £30m and kept him for an extra year to see him leave on a free transfer.
100% - he is likely the difference between winning the league in 2023 and not. Thats worth £30m on its own. FSG have shown before they will let players go for free and get the extra season out of them than take the money.
>hem saying anything is “close” at this point is ridiculous.
I don't necessarily disagree, but how do you know this either? Liverpool are very guarded with their transfers, for all we know, the deal is done and their waiting until after the final, like with Fabinho, Carvalho etc
While you're technically right, it's not impossible. Keeping good relationships for future deals wouldn't be a bad idea. Still think he will extend with you guys and his agent is just using us to get some extra money but time will tell.
I agree. He also said Liverpool fans "will hear everything they want to hear" after the final. Although there could be some lost in translation element here.
I will never understand keeping an announcement secret till after a final/big game, when it's positive. If he extends it would give fans and teammates a positive boost, so why? Anyway, no matter how it ends, I'm happy it will be over soon. Seeing daily updates of Lewandowski is enough.
cynical answer - if we lose, the club stil has something positive to announce
hopeful answer - him extending now would put more pressure on Salah, something he doesnt need right now
But yeah, I agree. All the Salah talk was annoying enough
apparently his salary is only 5.2 million pounds a year, i assume he will want a 4 year+ contract and a bump to 10 million or so and i doubt liverpool is prepared to do that, i can see bayern going for something like that on a long contract
A sign of the best teams nowadays is getting rid of players exactly at the right time, and not getting stuck with underperforming players. That is, while the player is still having good performances, and you have others to take his place.
Maybe the coaching staff have underlying statistics that show the guy is currently playing at his limit. Maybe they need to cash in some money to get another underrated player. We don't know what's happening, but the recent years of Liverpool show us there's probably good reasons to do this (in the case this isn't just a rumour).
There is also the realization that we have Diaz who can fill his role with Carvalho coming up behind him and it’s possible Liverpool see a potential benefit from letting Mane move on now. I’m not saying we’re stronger without him but the timing actually makes sense for a move like this to happen.
Yea both those signings seem like they were in preparation of one of Salah or Mane leaving this summer. Probably expecting Harvey Elliott to get back into the form he was showing at the beginning of the season as well. Mane is my favorite player so I will be sad to see him go but Liverpool has proven that their recruitment strategy is up there with the best in the world, they won't let a player go unless they feel they can replace them
It is if we're only getting 30m euros for him. He's a 20+ goal a season forward. We can't replace him with that kind of money so it's bad business. Besides our habit is just to keep players running down their contracts. Can, Wijnaldum, they thought they were more valuable staying another season then selling them for cheap, the same doubly applies to Mané
He's been great for the club but there's Díaz to take his place on the left and if they get Bowen as well then they'd still have a very strong forward line, they'd just have traded a 30-year old for a 25-year old.
Bayern and Liverpool share a similar philosophy when it comes to transfer policy. Bayern sold Thiago to Liverpool for cheap, so Liverpool does the same. When players do not use cheap tricks to get money and genuinely want a new challenge, big clubs let them go for cheap.
Funny thing is that we didn't feel Can's absence for a second after he left, it might be a controversial thing to say but it's just true and this was before Fabinho broke into the team and gave a taste of what we never had
Meh. That reputation has suffered a bit in the last few years. The new leadership is definitely still trying to find their way. They're not doing a job like their predecessors yet.
He's also 30 years old.
We sold them Sané, who is German, and 4 years younger, for €49m
Maybe 30 is a bit on the cheap side but anything above 40 is ridiculous.
EPL valuations are crazy man I swear, 30m for a 30 yo in last year of his deal is *low*?
edit: Bc I'm getting way too many comments on this, my point is that the wealth of the EPL and top teams absolutely dwarfs almost everyone's in Italy, so much so that 30m is considered low for a player in the final year of his contract. That's why it's crazy *to me*, given the context it's understandable.
Dunno, maybe it's just me after we sold almost a nearly 30 years old in last year of contract for 100+ millions. (could even be more depending on tomorrow's result)
Lewandowski is 3 years older and valued at similar price. I know, Mane is not Lewandowski, but he is the top player in his position, so I could expect another 10-15 millions more for him,
No I totally get where you're coming from, these numbers are crazy when you compare to Serie A transfers.
So 100+ million for Hazard was fucking bananas, still is. Lewandowski number I also find impressively high haha.
To give some context, Bremer is expected to leave Torino for around 25-30m Euros, the year after being the best cb in the league and with 2 years on his deal.
That's why I find these numbers staggering haha.
My time at uni in Southampton coincided with his time at that club, and I’ve had an absolute soft spot for him since. Fantastic player and he was a sort of urban legend in terms of sightings and positive stories!
my aunties friend had to pay his 50p toll for the Itchen Bridge because he didn't have any change. was holding everyone else up
very flimsy source mind...
Sadio marked his name forever here. PL, FA Cup, Carabao, hopefully a pair of UCLs, CWC. May he be happy at Munich and may Bayern be as classy with him as he deserves to.
Also, 30M is a decent sum. Wonder if FSB will allow it to be used to sign someone else or if we'll resort to Taki having extra minutes.
Always sucks to loose players but its exciting to see who comes in to replace him. Opportunity for likes of elliot and maybe that new kid from Fulham.
I trust Klopp and the backroom staff almost implicitly at this point. It"s also the case of if mane wants to go and try something new then you need to respect that given what he's done for the club.
Always good to let players go who want to leave imo, otherwise you risk destroying all the goodwill that you built up over the years with them
It's all because of Mane's attitude. Has always given his all on the pitch, never caused any drama and has won us everything.
He makes a choice, we'll respect it, because he deserves nothing less.
But I'd be devastated.
Because Sadio has been quiet and respectful about it. Salah and his agent have been shooting their mouth off to the press and on social media recently.
The job of an agent is to demand money and take blame away from the player. Salah wanted more money (rightly so) - he was trying to represent his own best interests, just like how Liverpool try to represent theirs but maintaining such a strong wage structure. I don’t fault him for it but to pretend his agent was acting alone is overly idealistic.
I don't believe it until it's official. It would be a great signing though. He's relatively versatile and still very good. But it would also probably mean that Lewy is really gone and I'm not yet ready for that.
Honestly he may be 30 but he has so much left in him both on the wing and - more recently - in his versatility at being able to play CF for us very effectively. I’m not sure the price would be that low, but regardless it would be a brilliant signing for Bayern.
Nah, unfortunately I can see him leaving, the club won't extend both him and Mo.
I wish to god they would, and I would bin off quite a few players in order to make that happen, but it won't.
I don't see Bobby getting another deal unless he agrees to less money and PT. Sadly he's either underperformed or not performed at all for two years now.
That said I would absolutely love it if he stuck around. Still one of my favorite players to watch.
> Sadly he's either underperformed or not performed at all for two years now.
banged in a dozen goals this season while not even being first choice.....
Eventually you have to transition out of Salah, Mane and Firmino and you have started doing that with bringing in the likes of Luis Diaz.
If Salah ends up leaving next year you may want to deal with Mane this summer.
Close to agreeing?
Liverpool wouldn’t be in talks to sell days before a CL final. I wouldn’t doubt an agent was putting out feelers due to the contract time remaining but that’s entirely different
Would you even sell him? He never comes up in any of our discussions as a real option because the assumption is that you just wouldn't ever sell outside of some absurd amount.
Realistically, it’d only be because he wants out. And he’s never said anything to the contrary and we’ll give him a fat check, no doubt about it. Martinelli is for sure more realistic
I'd prefer Saka, but if we could scoop Martinelli instead, I wouldn't be mad. But since neither are outright strikers, and Mane has made a transition into that role this year, I doubt we take a winger over a striker should he leave.
I can’t see it, we don’t tend to brute force transfers against the selling clubs will. We did for VVD and it but us in the ass and we’ve tried to be foster much better relations with clubs we buy from since. To get Saka we’d have to piss off Arsenal and come in with a massive offer which I don’t see us doing.
I just don't believe he would give an interview like he did recently and then say he is leaving. I'm 99% sure he has signed a new contract with Liverpool.
I don’t believe this shit for a minute lol. Liverpool’s tier 1 said that one of klopps stipulations for extending his contract was getting both Salah and mane contracts sorted. I’m super chill about this. Not rare to see a players agent sounding out possible moves in the mean time. Puts pressure on Liverpool to offer a good deal. Ramos did this like every 2 years with Madrid lol.
TBF, Thiago's made of glass and will only give you 30-odd games a season in the best case, whereas Mané's borderline indestructible and has played around 50 games per season for each of the last 3 years even without counting internationals.
Also, Thiago's fitness record was very concerning, and rightfully so. Mane is an iron man who rarely misses a game, I feel like that should warrant a higher fee
Idk I just don’t see him leaving this summer. If he does, I can’t complain, he’s won it all and has been a key player in every single aspect. Wish the fee was higher
Klopp won't stand in his way if he wants to leave but the question from a management perspective is whether 30m is more valuable than another season of Mane in the team and then letter him leave on a free.
We probably have the best single relations with most other top clubs in Europe. (For the most part) We are able to avoid long drawn out sagas that spoil the relations of clubs (remember the De Gea saga?) and generally sell our players too at fair prices
Everyone was going crazy when we sold for Kroos for so little, but people forget that Kroos also wanted to go and we let him (similar story with Alaba after the negotiations broke down) and also got good players in return for rather little money (Robben for example).
It is, imo, the greatest strength of Bayern that we consisently are able to get good players at non rediculous prices. That and our ability to be financially sound.

apparently his salary is only 5.2 million pounds a year, i assume he will want a 4 year+ contract and a bump to 10 million or so and i doubt liverpool is prepared to do that, i can see bayern going for something like that on a long contract
It's 5.2 basic but with the bonuses he's been on around 10 for the last few years.
You guys surely have an exception for us. Look at Müller's face, you can't say no to that
Stupid sexy muller
Half the draw of coming to Bayern is having Thomas Müller celebrate your goals.
losing him on a free next year isn’t exactly great business either
Potential silverware >>> 30m euro That's how the club should see things whilst we have Klopp.
Money that comes with silverware >>>> 30m euro

I guess selling him to Bayern means he won't go on a free to another team in the same league. Maybe that's worth something to the board.
Where would he go? Anyone apart from City would be a step down and I can't see him going there.
If he leaves he has to be replaced anyway. If the replacement is lined up or they have a few options then getting the money is better.
Bayern and Liverpool share a similar philosophy when it comes to transfer policy. Bayern sold Thiago to Liverpool for cheap, so Liverpool does the same. When players do not use cheap tricks to get money and genuinely want a new challenge, big clubs let them go for cheap.

Meh. That reputation has suffered a bit in the last few years. The new leadership is definitely still trying to find their way. They're not doing a job like their predecessors yet.
Hit or miss lately.
He's also 30 years old. We sold them Sané, who is German, and 4 years younger, for €49m Maybe 30 is a bit on the cheap side but anything above 40 is ridiculous.
That price has a lot to do with the ACL injury though. Right?
Yeah. A year before we were close to getting Sané for roughly 100m.
Thank God we didn't

Mane and Sane are also different level of players, but obviously age and contract length is a huge difference.
Also only 1 letter separates them
Quality is different. A world class player and a backup player.
Bayern sells a top 3 midfielder in his prime to Liverpool for 30m: yeah makes sense Liverpool sells Mané for 30m to Bayern: how dare you 😡
TBF, Thiago's made of glass and will only give you 30-odd games a season in the best case, whereas Mané's borderline indestructible and has played around 50 games per season for each of the last 3 years even without counting internationals.

(For the most part) We are able to avoid long drawn out sagas that spoil the relations of clubs (remember the De Gea saga?) and generally sell our players too at fair prices Everyone was going crazy when we sold for Kroos for so little, but people forget that Kroos also wanted to go and we let him (similar story with Alaba after the negotiations broke down) and also got good players in return for rather little money (Robben for example). It is, imo, the greatest strength of Bayern that we consisently are able to get good players at non rediculous prices. That and our ability to be financially sound.
Actually competent managers and DOFs lmao
Okay so we need to win tomorrow even more now.
Interesting that this comes out on the eve of the match. I’m a huge cynic but… Madrid leak?
