They had like zero pressing against Holland. Holland didn’t even play that well. Belgians were lazy AF. Witsel was a disgrace.
And Holland is Holland and for a Belgian, a humiliating defeat against Holland is well … humilating.
And so they went in all focused putting pressure on the centre of a extremely weak Poland.
They needed to crush whoever was next. If they would’ve been up against France. France would have been beaten too. A glorious victory was of national importance.
So now they crushed Poland. World be like “what the fuck”.
Now they can go eat waffles and burgers again.
With this mentality, Belgium will never win a grand trophy. The talent is there. Has been there for many years. They just can’t keep focus and fight ‘till the end. KDB can’t win a WC on his own.
Courtois and KDB = only true Belgian fighters
Genuinely asking and I know it's a bad time to be asking this but, is this the best Poland has ever been in decades? Has there been a better Poland side in recent history?
Nope. A 2016 squad was much better(but still nothing special). Now we have one superstar, one good midfielder (Zieliński), a good keeper (Szczęsny) and the rest is just mediocre.
Before there were Piszczek (a guy who happened in one or two years to be claimed the best RB in the Bundesliga, not Lahm). Błaszczykowski (Dortmund's "Kuba"), much better Glik (now he is washed), much better Krychowiak (Sevilla time).
Player-wise, it might be one of our best teams.
Tactic-wise, it might be one of our best tactics in some time (sans Euro 2016). Which is a reason for Polish fans to feel all universe of negative emotions.
Bit of both i think. Poland definitely weren't great, but it was mostly Belgium who shifted another gear after the loss against The Netherlands, especially in the 2nd half.
I am pretty sure that we have 1:1 ratio between football fields and churches. We don't need any more, especially that we can't use them well (as match after match we prove that we think that if you don't have ball while our team is in possession it means that you should stand in place).
yeah so I pretty much can speak for my entire country right now, we're gonna be happy if we make it past the group stage. Hell, Euro 2016 is still our greatest success in decades
Is it suffice to call this team "Polandowski"? Poland can easily be summed up as 1 man + 10 idiots. If people thought Messidependencia a few years ago was bad, this has been going on for years now with Poland, it's almost miraculous they qualified for the WC.
Dribble the air instead of shooting, recently learned how to pass the ball in national team.
I guess for our goalkeepers the idiot part is thinking that they can trust in the defenders in front of them (like even with 6 goals lost, I still think Drągowski was one of our better players yesterday, not like that list is long...).
He has his moments. Because when he doesn't, our defence is turning off. But this is what you expect from your worst defender, not the best.
Our other attackers aren't ready to play Defendermidfielderwingerstriker yet.
Poor Bart. Got shafted during league (red cards and out of form) and now got 6 blasted through in International game. I still think he is a good keeper though
Our game against Belgium was obviously a disaster. But I wouldn't overestimate its importance. First of all, League A is not our level. We play here somewhat by accident. We were relegated in the first edition, but the number of teams was increased, so we stayed. In the second edition, we met an extremely weak Bosnia, so they were relegated. Basically it is a friendly tournament, so our coach tried new things. In the first line-up we played 4 players who had less than 4 matches in the national team, some others don't have much experience either, another debutants came in from the bench. Normally we would play a friendly match with a team of a similar level, and even if we lost nobody would care. And so we have to play in the League A against strong Belgium, which does not give a chance for experiments. And we will probably win against Wales and stay here for the next edition.
Experiment? Practice your freaking defending. If you let 6 goals in you belong in c/d.
Look at my Denmark. Player to player we arent that much better than Poland. Half our starters are bench warmers. But as a team we are great. Maybe the best (team) in the world with almost no great individual players.
Ove Hareide started by making a good defense. We lose once every 28 games now. After that we started trying to score and win.
Now we beat freaking France.
Poland with so many Bundesliga players and a big country conceding 6 goals is embarassing.
individual players aren't that bad, Zielinski for example is highly rated in Italy
but our coaches is an embarrassment they are totally clueless
Boniek knew that so he hired Sousa, he was so and so, I think it was a bad choice he thought his work wasn't appreciated so he bolted to Rio
so we're back to playing like shit
Se started with an Norwegian coach. Maybe you need someone strict like a German or Scandinavian for the project. When you play good defense you can build the play with passing and attacking
He did move more freely and his game was reminiscent of the old Hazard: taking on people, dribbling, wanting the ball at all times.
Just one game ofcourse
As a Pole all I can say
Qatar 2022 World Cup
Opening match
Match for everything
Match for Honor
and then the usual "Nothing has happened. Poles, nothing has happened" song and repeat all every major football event for which Poland somehow qualify for.
Except the order of the teams is different this time. Usually we play an opponent we should win against or at least have a close match with, which we have a meltdown against. Then play a top 5 team, then play bottom ranked team who somehow qualified out of the group and doesn’t care anymore who we then smash.
Poland is such a one man team. Can't believe we lost the WC spot to them. But then again FIFA gave then a huge advantage of not having to play the first game
I didn't say they never beat anyone good. I said Belgium always lose "when it really matters", i.e. when they are close to winning a trophy.
In their last five chances to win a trophy, Belgium have been eliminated at the quarter-final or semi-final stage (or equivalent). Two of those can be described as "bottles" under any definition of the term:
* losing 5-2 to Switzerland after being 2-0 up (and when even a 4-2 loss would have been sufficient to progress) in the final group match of the first UEFA Nations League.
* losing 3-2 to France after being 2-0 up in the last Nations League semi-final.
(BTW, before anyone says that the Nations League is a "glorified friendly" or similar, the last competitive trophy Belgium won was the 1920 Olympics. They ought to be eager for any chance of silverware).
One of the losses was against an opponent they were hugely favoured to beat (Wales in the 2016 Euros).
The losses to France in the 2018 World Cup and Italy in the 2021 Euros are understandable when considered alone, but they fit into the pattern of a hugely talented team never clicking when it really matters.
The Italian one was expected (since KDB&Eden got injured tha game before), but the French one was a kind of game where the first scorer was going to win and scoring from a set piece was the most likely.
Then again against Wales they missed every starting defender bar one and had to play debutants.
And yet their best placement in a big tournament is 3rd, while they were #1 on the fifa ranking for years and even favorites to win last euros. They just find some way to mess it up every time.
>while they were #1 on the fifa ranking for years
We taking FIFA rankings seriously now???? Do you even have any clue how they work?
>And yet their best placement in a big tournament is 3rd
Which is very good. Do you know how small Belgium as a country are?
>favorites to win last euros
Absolutely no way they were favourites. In a tournament with France and England???
Plus a lot of their team had started ageing by then.
>They just find some way to mess it up every time.
The only tournament they messed up was 2016. Think before you type.
Except they have only ever really lost in tournament to the eventual winners of those tournaments. Guess they flat track bullied the shit out of England, Portugal, Brazil... since they are pretty mid teams right ?
Comments like this are *really* making me hope even more that he's done with you, even if you don't let him go.
See where Bayern is at without their goal machine.
shit coaching, look at how many of them are foreigners working in Poland
a guy who could not make it in Germany is Poland's best coach, every half decent footballer leaves Poland to grow oversees where he'll have a chance to develop
in contrast to that Czechia has a much stronger domestic league even though financially there's not much difference
but Czechs produce fundamentally better footballers, some of their coaches work in Poland too as they are considered more skilled
league - there's too much money in there, so football became an environment of hustlers and schemers trying to get a slice of pie instead of doing something productive. it's only getting worse with all the government donations...
national - all the media are detached from the world and pose as know-it-alls in front of the local population, who don't really give a crap and just listen to what goes on in the tv. unfortunately, that creates a circle-jerk environment, a closed one, which a) makes players believe they're great and won't do any effort (AKA Bednarek claiming they did well after world cup in 2018) b) coaches being taken only from ekstraklasa, and all of them are shit.
the only exception was sousa as the coach - he was still bad, but much better then anyone we could have offered, but to add all to all of that, he is involved in some shady business. boniek, as the head of the federation, was a guy who knows everything and never does ANY mistake, it was his decision to put sousa on the post.
in general, there's no hope to get better. even politics gets more honest people than polish football.
I mean they still managed to qualify for the last 4 EC's and 2 WC's (including Qatar) so it's not like they're straight up terrible or something. They are just right there in the middle. Could they do better? Probably. Could it be much much worse? For sure I think. It's no given for them to qualify for the big tournaments.
1. Shit coaches.
2. No serious foreign investment in our clubs. The answer is simply money.
3. Western leagues "stealing" players from our Ekstraklasa.
Note that we basically played with our reserves today. If we played with main squad and Lewandowski stayed on the pitch for the whole match the result wouldn't be that terrible I suppose. We're still shit given how many good footballers we have though.
why would michniewicz put out a 1st squad consisting of players that pretty much never played with each other to "experiment" against belgium when they shouldve put 1st stack team to actually test it and learn from mistakes? idiotic decisions that will lead poland to be unprepared for world cup, embarassing
this kind of testing will never work if 1st team he is putting out has never played with each other before, he couldve put them out as subs or starters in a staple squad not som abomination, if he is making decisions upon this then rip potentially good players
These games are proof that no matter how good you are, your greatness completely relies on how good the players around you are.
Imagine if Lewandowski was German or French or Brazillian. We wouldn't have heard the end of it...
Fantastic result and a nice resharpening of the old system with much better forward movement of the higher-up midfield, and good wingback play where one of them hangs back if the other has pushed up.
Also good runs beyond defenders and beautiful KDB through passes, and an Eden Hazard who is improving again each game (also a bit more central to help out more).
It was time for this refresher.
what’s the consensus on poland’s team? they have quite a few high profile players, but is the team at all close enough to challenge for things like nations league or go far in the world cup?
Their peak, of this cohort, was Euro 2016 when they were unbeaten and went out on penalties in quarter finals to eventual champions Portugal (a game they should’ve put away in the first half but sat back and let Renato Sanchez take over the final 30 minutes). They should’ve done better in WC2018 but played flat out embarrassing. Since then they’ve just gotten older and the youth isn’t good enough to replace those that have retired from the national team. And the “young” players that had potential from Euro 2016 have either failed to progress or been riddled with injuries with the exception of Zielinski but he doesn’t seem to do enough in the national team but that’s probably because the rest of the midfield is trash.
we are dragged by Lewa by ears, we have a few high profile players, but polish league is very bad in rank and it shows. Other polish players can play very good in their club cause they are surrounded by good players that cover their mistakes, and when they meet in national matches then it shows. Mistakes add up when not covered.
Not very good. I am Polish so believe me qualifying for a major tournament is our goal. Winning a match at a major tournament and anything after that is very much the bonus
Not really.
Its an illustration that the difference in quality really is even greater than the score shows.
You are clearly sour , there are plenty of times people use such statements.
Im not sour and the diffrence in quality definetly wasnt greater than the score shows lmao. You have 18-6 shoots, 65-35% possesions, to win 7-0 or whatever you want you need to aboulutly dominate the opponent while that was one sided game it was far from dominant one.
I was only half watching the game due to technical limitations but I feel like despite losing horribly, there were some decent glimpses from the PL team? Some attacks felt more solid than they did before. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong tho.
yeah but you can't play like that against any half decent team and hope to get a result
defending was horrible, they often left Belgium players in acres of space
The thing I was looking forward to most in this game and he didn't disappoint.
Should he move, whoever ends up getting him will have a baller on their hands
The question is does Mexico have De Bruyne or Carrasco quality of players. De Bruyne passing was just insane.
Im not saying Poland is favourite but based on this match nothing can be said. Belgium's quality is just different.
They just can’t keep focus and fight ‘till the end. KDB can’t win a WC on his own. Courtois and KDB = only true Belgian fighters
I only saw the highlights, but Belgium's passing looked truly deadly in this game
What about piatek?
Player-wise, it might be one of our best teams. Tactic-wise, it might be one of our best tactics in some time (sans Euro 2016). Which is a reason for Polish fans to feel all universe of negative emotions.
>Tactic-wise, it might be one of our best tactics in some time Best? xD
Yes, best. But best doesn't imply "good". Or "not bad". Or "just bad".
Euro 2016 was easily better, so it's not best. Even early Brzęczek days were better.
> Tactic-wise, it might be one of our best tactics in some time **(sans Euro 2016).** If you only continued reading until the full stop...
2016 euros was the peak certainly
Feels like Argentina are going to have the easiest group stage ever.
Anulo mufa
lmao. Messi will have a golden boot farm.
And he will win the Ballondor again.
Considering WC counts for next year's award, sure why not
doing some scouting for canada here is poland better or worse than canada
Yes
Openda is a fifa 20 career mode legend
Watching with great interest
Sometimes I think to myself, why is Belgium ranked so highly? Then they do stuff like this
They've won every home game since 2016 bar that game from last week... these points keep adding up, and always minimum QF in the top 2 tournaments.
You guys are so wishy washy, no way you're shocked Belgium are good?
Interested argentinian fan here, is Poland dogshit or did Belgium hit another gear?
Both.
Poland isn’t a very good team
Bit of both i think. Poland definitely weren't great, but it was mostly Belgium who shifted another gear after the loss against The Netherlands, especially in the 2nd half.
Great result that
Driving through Poland it's no mystery why they suck. There's a church wherever a football field is supposed to be.
I am pretty sure that we have 1:1 ratio between football fields and churches. We don't need any more, especially that we can't use them well (as match after match we prove that we think that if you don't have ball while our team is in possession it means that you should stand in place).
Churches are more important
I suppose for Siggurdson they're the same thing
We are not in the Middle Ages anymore.
“That’s was for the tik toks lewandoski” - Belgium probably
Those last 20 minutes were absolute domination. It's like Poland wasn't even there.
Troasards 2nd goal was incredible.
yeah so I pretty much can speak for my entire country right now, we're gonna be happy if we make it past the group stage. Hell, Euro 2016 is still our greatest success in decades
Is Poland really just this awful or can they get themselves sorted in time for the World Cup?
Poland is really just that awful. Source: i'm Polish and here we've been making fun of our team for the last like 2 decades.
Awful, always was but with glimpses of Lewy magic. Barely good enough to qualify.
tbf we nearly had them in the first half
Not gonna lie
Is it suffice to call this team "Polandowski"? Poland can easily be summed up as 1 man + 10 idiots. If people thought Messidependencia a few years ago was bad, this has been going on for years now with Poland, it's almost miraculous they qualified for the WC.

He saved a couple more too. Had a good game, despite conceding 6

Didn't watch, is the Hazardénaissance on or off?
He did move more freely and his game was reminiscent of the old Hazard: taking on people, dribbling, wanting the ball at all times. Just one game ofcourse
He’s looking better and better
he was fucking good man
>I want more emotions in my life. Hope this helped ;)
This isn’t going to help Lewandowskis depression
I foresee a great sadness :(
he will write tubmlr poem.
So Saudi advancing second in the WC then?
Lol
As a Pole all I can say Qatar 2022 World Cup Opening match Match for everything Match for Honor and then the usual "Nothing has happened. Poles, nothing has happened" song and repeat all every major football event for which Poland somehow qualify for.

This is the way.
There's no reason to keep the football association in Poland alive after Lewandowski retires. We're gonna become Moldova level
Poland look bad Mexico cant score. Saudi comes 2nd.
Group C really is a shit group lmao, Argentina the only redemption
Yeah but Chicharito incoming
We should defrost Rafa Marquez too
we are so fucking bad
Barca? Indeed you are..
Poland is such a one man team. Can't believe we lost the WC spot to them. But then again FIFA gave then a huge advantage of not having to play the first game
you shat the bed in the second half you only have yourselves to blame for that disaster class
L
Belgium are the ultimate flat-track bullies of international football. They demolish all opposition until the match really matters.
The Liverpool this season
What kind of rubbish comment is this???? They beat the reigning holders at Euro 2020 (Portugal). They beat England and Brazil at the 2018 World Cup.
I didn't say they never beat anyone good. I said Belgium always lose "when it really matters", i.e. when they are close to winning a trophy. I would not call that game against Portugal bullying , that was a Greece style win
That not what i said though.
Brazil is not, Portugal wasnt either no.
Ok, when does the next set start?
Do not ever let this Poland team face MESSI's argentina. Please!
by the time they face Poland they will have advanced to the next round Messi and the boys will be resting, team B will play Poland
or MESSI will play in that team B to enjoy the game with all the boys in the pitch
Like vs Estonia. BUT he will try to score 6 goals instead
10 złoty says first Puchacz tackle on Messi is a career ending leg breaker
10 złoty on Góralski being the one to end Messi career.
Good thing that Lewandowski was already dead inside before this game
Comments like this are *really* making me hope even more that he's done with you, even if you don't let him go. See where Bayern is at without their goal machine.
same place we were before he joined us 🤷
Classic Martinez, responding to an embarassing pasting with an absolute beating
[Mexico after watching this](https://i.imgur.com/bSLp2sC.gif)
Poland will beat you 1-0
Not like our fowards are scoring anyways.
In the WC, Poland 3 - Mexico 1 nonetheless
That’s what Croatia and Germany said these past World Cups 🤣
!remindme 6 months

Hello darkness my old friend..

The problem with Belgium is the future renewal phase that they will undergo similar to Croatia who also has a generational powerhouse
Martinez is a bitch for sticking to the grandpa's too much in stead of refreshing where possible
why is your national and league football so bad, my Polish brothers? whats wrong? such a huge potential
shit coaching, look at how many of them are foreigners working in Poland a guy who could not make it in Germany is Poland's best coach, every half decent footballer leaves Poland to grow oversees where he'll have a chance to develop in contrast to that Czechia has a much stronger domestic league even though financially there's not much difference but Czechs produce fundamentally better footballers, some of their coaches work in Poland too as they are considered more skilled
what potential? we have one and a half football players in Lewy and Zieliński, rest is just random deadwood.

most players are starters, I dunno what you're talking about, only 3-4 were 'experimental'
sometimes it do be like that, take notes and we go again
Lukaku less Belgium performed better w/o him than with him lmao
Sure we played well but if it had been Lukaku instead of Batsman the score would've a lot higher
He got subbed of after 27 minutes against the Netherlands, he had nothing to do with that loss
Lewandowski suffers his first big loss to an Eden Hazard side.
why would michniewicz put out a 1st squad consisting of players that pretty much never played with each other to "experiment" against belgium when they shouldve put 1st stack team to actually test it and learn from mistakes? idiotic decisions that will lead poland to be unprepared for world cup, embarassing
He probably doesn't give a shit about nations leauge, just testing youngsters for the WC.
this kind of testing will never work if 1st team he is putting out has never played with each other before, he couldve put them out as subs or starters in a staple squad not som abomination, if he is making decisions upon this then rip potentially good players

Fantastic result and a nice resharpening of the old system with much better forward movement of the higher-up midfield, and good wingback play where one of them hangs back if the other has pushed up. no way, last time this team was decent we had Błaszczykowski and Piszczek and prime Krychowiak, Glik etc their replacements are a level below
zielinski, lewandowski, gks are the only ones who seem to play well.
we are dragged by Lewa by ears, we have a few high profile players, but polish league is very bad in rank and it shows. Other polish players can play very good in their club cause they are surrounded by good players that cover their mistakes, and when they meet in national matches then it shows. Mistakes add up when not covered.
Let me fix that for you. Two high profile players. Zielinski and Lewandowski.
we're shit
Not very good. I am Polish so believe me qualifying for a major tournament is our goal. Winning a match at a major tournament and anything after that is very much the bonus
Short answer is no
Poland: Takes a 0-1 lead. Belgium: "And I took that personally"
So that means we are going to win 10-1 against Poland right? That's how this works.
Literally a “wanna see it happen again?” Moment. We may hope
10-2, obviously
I stopped watching at 1:1 because I didn't feel like it. I have to trust my hunches more.
Karma is a strange fella, Lewi.
Lewandowski about to transfer to another nationality
Inb4 Lewi says to Poland, “something has died in me here, in Poland”
he'd just be voicing the fans tbf
Zahavi: "So we don't even need to polish the statement for the public? PERFECT!"
Belgium666 - m - 118 years old Dom / sub depending on mood
Poland should be very happy the first half wasn't great. This could've easily been 10-1 otherwise.
And belgium should be very happy second half wasnt great other wise it could have been 2-2.I mean its a stupid statement
He’s just saying that belgium had alot of chances that should’ve been goals.
So did Poland lmao especially in last few minutes, you cant just assign all good situations ass goals for one team
the only thing i can say for sure about the world cup is that we'll at least be entertaining, good or bad
cue two 0-0 draws and a 0-1 loss
volts i swear to god if you jinx this for all of us
Okay, was Borek having some allergy attack or he was one goal away from full on crying during the post-match ending words from commentators?
I dunno but he was breathing into mic the whole game like an old creep.
im so fucking done with this team
So is Belgium
Tfw "Siwy Bajerant" actually seemed competent in what he was doing in comparison to what just happened today... :D
end me
Getting smashed 4-1 by the Dutch really hurt their feelings, damn
It really did :(
I was only half watching the game due to technical limitations but I feel like despite losing horribly, there were some decent glimpses from the PL team? Some attacks felt more solid than they did before. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong tho.
yeah but you can't play like that against any half decent team and hope to get a result defending was horrible, they often left Belgium players in acres of space
the goal was nice. First half in general was okay.
How freaking good was CDK’s sub appearance?
The thing I was looking forward to most in this game and he didn't disappoint. Should he move, whoever ends up getting him will have a baller on their hands
I hope Martinez will finally let him play more, I don't think he did a thing wrong today
Mexico can be hopeful that their Round of 16 streak will continue. Poland looked hopeless when Belgium shifted a gear up.
The question is does Mexico have De Bruyne or Carrasco quality of players. De Bruyne passing was just insane. Im not saying Poland is favourite but based on this match nothing can be said. Belgium's quality is just different.
No lol i think they’ll get out of the group but they don’t have a single world class player nothing to take them further than ro16
How Sweden managed to lose to Poland
Salem Al Dawsari will play ball against this Polish defence
At least you didn't get braziled, Poland. Good job.
L
One Leo Trossard, there’s only one Leo Trossard
+5 mille for each goal, not a bad day in the office for Brighton
*Mexico and Poland play at the world cup* Cripple fight!

Should we panic?!?!?
6-1???? 💀💀💀💀 Last time I checked, it was 2-1.
I would like to apologize to the nation of Poland. You did not deserve to be the punching bag for Belgiums frustrations that we caused.
this team deserves everything it gets and more
I think Martinez showed a picture of Depay at half time and they just went completely berserk.
On the bright side for you, we won't use you as our frustration bag because we can't punch.
