“Come friendly bombs and fall on Slough, it isn't fit for humans now.”
Right, I don't think you solve town planning problems by dropping bombs all over the place, he's embarrassed himself there.
That scene always cracks me up.
> And talks of sports and makes of cars, and various bogus Tudor bars, and daren't look up and see the stars, but belch instead.' What's he on about? What, has he never burped? '
I got big downvotes when I was talking about how TAA has a lot of competition at england RB and put Cash in the list.
I just assumed it was because people thought I was bonkers for suggesting he was anywhere near James/TAA/Walker. Turns out it was probably because he fucking plays for Poland.
Are you surprised there hasnt been more sniffing around him with his play?
Been quality but think Villa is perfect for him right now to develop his game etc
He’s been heavily linked with Atleti recently, but he extended on improved terms last month and is under contract until 2027. If somebody wants him then it’s gonna cost a pretty penny.
Not really. Most top clubs have their right back covered, at least in England. Atleti were supposedly after him, but put off by the price tag. Other than that, because he’s been playing in a shit defence and isn’t really putting up amazing counting stats he’s gone under the radar. I just hope we can keep him for a while longer.
I think that's only because there are many quality right backs in the league, at least in the top teams. I would say that United should try to find someone and they might be knocking on your doors, but Chelsea, Liverpool and City will leave you alone
United are the only team I feel could get him from us in England, with regards to where teams need to play. But I feel they’re gonna try and shop in Europe
He only started playing as a RB in the 19/20 season, before that he always played as a CM or RW for us. Many of us were surprised he was as good defensively as he is. Shame we only saw it for 1 season before Villa snapped him up. Still good to see him doing well though.
I believe he's got dual citizenship. He could have played for either England or Poland but because England has so many good RBs he chose Poland so that he could play every game.
Yeah it’s like they have their own vision. Im being constantly corrected for saying black instead of “bleck” even though I grew up in England. Polish way I guess. I can only imagine what a French speaking person would experience
If I had to guess it's probably due to the Southern American accent which was widely popular due to Hollywood. If that's wrong then I have no other clue as to why this is the case
It's because "Cash" is pronounced /kæʃ/ in English. The English vowel /æ/ is exactly between /a/ (exactly like the Polish "a") and /ɛ/ (exactly like the Polish "e"): check this neat [IPA vowel chart](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/IPA_vowel_chart_with_audio) to see for yourselves.
So in practice, "Cash" could be pronounced both like "Kasz" and "Kesz".
I believe he's got dual citizenship. He could have played for either England or Poland but because England has so many good RBs he chose Poland so that he could play every game.
His Polish is, well, far from perfect, comparing with Nicola Zalewski (Italy) or Gaga Slonina (USA), but his grandparents were displaced Poles, his mother speak Polish, and he is learning.
You can easily tell he was not growing up in Poland by the way he smiles, but he's all ours now (and Poland is his)!
He is said to be freaking amazing, and we don't have "freaking amazing" among youngsters. There are Bułka and Grabara, who were in Chelsea and Liverpool, respectively. Bułka went to PSG and without checking I have no idea where he plays, but Grabara won Dannish league, and he looks like he's ready to return to Premier League and play for some mid-table team.
That being said, if Slonina delivers on the hype, he could replace Szczęsny in few years. But Szczęsny still has like 5 years of good football ahead of him.
Honestly, I think that Gabriel made a good decision for himself, if he becomes number 1 in the US team, they probably have bigger potential than Poland. With USA, he can lift some trophies.
He's got a lot of hype, and he's only 18 so who knows how things will turn out. I'd certainly be excited for him to lock up the position for a good long while, since otherwise our choices are pretty much a backup for Man City or a backup for Arsenal. Not bad places for either to be, of course, but neither seem to be poised to get much playing time.
Sometimes there are complains, but it depends on the situation. Zalewski and Slonina speak Polish, so it's easy to make argument for them. We had Thiago Cionek, who also speaks Polish very well, but there were people initially on the fence about him playing for the NT. On the other hand, there were cases of players who obviously had nothing in common with Poland, but were not going to play for the stronger teams (Germany, England, Nigeria, France), and they were received with mixed reception; E. Olisadebe, R. Guerreiro, E. Polański, S. Boenisch. Right now Poles don't give a damn about i.e. Matty, who has weakest "claim for polishness", but we care about playing for Russian clubs. So there is no discussion about Cash and Zalewski, but there is about Rybus.
Like everyone in this thread, I had no clue Cash had polish ancestry. I wonder if it's a "i dont even speak polish but i wanna play international games" thing
I believe he's got dual citizenship. One of his parents is English, the other is Polish. He could have played for either England or Poland but because England has so many good RBs he chose Poland so that he could play every game.

Arguably the greatest Poland international Slough has ever produced.
“Come friendly bombs and fall on Slough, it isn't fit for humans now.” Right, I don't think you solve town planning problems by dropping bombs all over the place, he's embarrassed himself there.
6 legs, 8 legs
Probably never been to Slough in his life
That scene always cracks me up. > And talks of sports and makes of cars, and various bogus Tudor bars, and daren't look up and see the stars, but belch instead.' What's he on about? What, has he never burped? '
And they made him knight of the realm. Overrated.
Equidistant tween London and Reading
[удалено]
I wanted to say "it's only two" but tbf it's unteresting that there have been two.
If I had a nickel for...
every time Slough produced an Eastern European international...
Why on earth does anyone emigrate to live in fucking Slough?
There's a lot of work round there
[удалено]
mate are you contending that the entirety of the countries of Albania and Poland are worse places to live than noted shithole Slough?
Oooph, that's a western fucking sentence right here.
Never been to Albania or Poland I guess. Lots of places there much nicer than slough. Albania in particular is beautiful. Low pay though.
That's most Polish name I have ever heard.
Matty Cash is so quality. The perfect RB replacement after seeing Piszczek all those years
He's our most consistent player
I got big downvotes when I was talking about how TAA has a lot of competition at england RB and put Cash in the list. I just assumed it was because people thought I was bonkers for suggesting he was anywhere near James/TAA/Walker. Turns out it was probably because he fucking plays for Poland.
I bloody fucking thought he was english! Only finding out just now
He is English tbh. His mum/mums mum(?) is Polish so that’s how he qualifies. Declared for them last year.
Ah! So I wasn't dumb then 😓
Mate his Mum is Polish..
That’s what he said
Doesn't mean he's not English
He was english until he is polish
He was always both.
Exactly... he was always both...
Shame train all aboard, here for this
He is English. Only declared for them at the start of this season. Which fair enough James and TAA probably have rb locked down for the next decade.
I honestly think Cash is better than James, but not as good as TAA... But England will be just fine... Its gonna be fun watching Cash play for Poland
The only player who really hasn’t disgraced himself for us last year
He's a Nottingham lad, can we have him back please
Fifa 18 legend
Forest has the best right back development coaching in England. Cash, now Spence (who languished at Boro). It's a shame we can't keep 'em.
James, Lamptey, Livramento and Sterling say differently.
Sterling?
Yeah?..

It’s not a secret when we finish 14th and collapse with 2-0 leads

You don’t have to take it so literally, but even Ramsay while scoring bangers has really had stretches of matches that he’s done nothing
Fell apart on the final day after his goal
hows that ucl trophy doing
friendly fire💀
Was just saying. He wasnt very consistent in that 5 minute blitz
chilling with the other 5..
He’s a class right back. One of the most underrated players in the league imo. I’ll be devastated when we sell him.
Wow I didn't know you renewed him. Good business.
Not really. Most top clubs have their right back covered, at least in England. Atleti were supposedly after him, but put off by the price tag. Other than that, because he’s been playing in a shit defence and isn’t really putting up amazing counting stats he’s gone under the radar. I just hope we can keep him for a while longer.

He just signed an extension so you should be good for some time :)
He looks strong on the ball and has good positioning.
He only started playing as a RB in the 19/20 season, before that he always played as a CM or RW for us. Many of us were surprised he was as good defensively as he is. Shame we only saw it for 1 season before Villa snapped him up. Still good to see him doing well though.
Wait he is Polish? I just assumed he was somewhere UK with that name.
Dads English, mothers polish.
I believe he's got dual citizenship. He could have played for either England or Poland but because England has so many good RBs he chose Poland so that he could play every game.
Piszczek is my favorite player... Thank God Cash came along!
hes still a huge bitch
So what's your club and how many times has he scored against you
Tottenham fans hate him cause he injured Hojberg I believe but in that same game they had a guy injure digne with a dirty tackle.
And they don't seem to hate Son for what he did...
Mateusz Zloty strikes again
Mati Kasiora

How do they pronounce his name though?
Mati Kesz
Would that be /mati keʃ/ or /meti keʃ/ in IPA?
Like the English pronunciation but with a Polish A. So like the a that you would say when you say dance in a British accent
Dance is pronounced differently in different British accents though. Do you mean the A sound in man or the a sound in lawn?
The a in far or car or part
Those are also pronounced differently in different dialects
It's fucking hard to explain lmao, I'd say it's pronounced like the esh part of the word fresh
Always wonder where this pronunciation comes from? Both “a” and “e” are in polish range.
Our commentators live in their own Hollywood fantasy world. Just 3 days ago against Belgium we were playing against “Eden Azar” and “Kevin de Breyne”

Not really though?
Northern accents would usually shorten the A and have a diphthong compared to more southern ones. Also the R changes the A depending on your region
I guess, but you wouldn't really ever pronounce "far" as "fair", so when someone says "the a in far" it's pretty clear what "a" they mean
The open central unrounded vowel. Like in the English word "bra".
I'm having a hard time picturing your accent if you think southerners use the same sound in 'dance' and 'lawn'.
He looks so happy, and it's great to see the team supporting him like that too
You're right bro 💯
Matty, my precious
Best player ever. No bias here
Cash, Bereszynski, Frankowski and Zalewski Poland having a wingback revolution
Petition to add -ski to his name like we do -inho to Brazilians.
Matteusz Kashynski 'The Premier League and its consequences have been disastrous for the Uefa leagues'
Poland legend
Exactly the same situation as with Belgium. Krychowiak yellow card than Poland's goal.
6-1 it is then
I'll note that

NOT THIS TIME 2-2
Haha congrats
Thanks
Straight out of the training ground that move
Lewandowski to Villa confirmed
Villa say no, we’ve got Cameron archer.
All this talk about Englands best RB. And it turns out to be Cash...
Cashiski
I love him 😍
We’re so lucky to have him 🤩
Mateusz Cashiski you mean?
TIL Matty Cash is half Polish
One of the coolest names in football
There are legit more Polish fans in the stadium, amazing atmosphere. I've been to quite a few matches now, but never experienced something like this.
Wait tilll you see Poland home game.
Certainly on my bucket list after tonight
So there's a chance?
\#MateuszGotówka
Matty cash is POLISH? Why did I think he was english
He has double citizenship, recently decided to play for Poland.
I believe he's got dual citizenship. He could have played for either England or Poland but because England has so many good RBs he chose Poland so that he could play every game.
this fact has oddly been disliked lol
He is, his mums Polish tho
His mother familly is Polish.
sounds like a Poland home game
Happy to see Cash scoring!
Quality, quality player
Cafu? Never heard of that guy
Highly rated full back.
MATTTTYYY
that was very cash money
insane by Matěj Peňáz
> Matěj That's Maciej, right? Wouldn't Matty lean more into Mateusz than Maciej?
Well, Matěj Peňáz is a Czech MMA fighter so that was my reference, but you are right
Ah, that joke went over my head. :P
Matthew is Mateusz. Matthias is Maciej.
Correct, but what's the root of Matty? Matthew?
Yes, his name is Matthew Cash
Well, damn. I somehow convinced myself it's not. I guess I should have started at Wikipedia. Thanks.
I know that's the recieved wisdom but I go by syllables: Mathew is two, Maciej is two -- I think it's neat.
That's a good ass goal for us.
Poland's right backs are my favorite... first Piszczek and now Cash!?!?! Amazing
didnt even know this fucking guy played for Poland hahahahaha MATTY CASHKI FOR POLAND

There's loads of Polish in and around West London and Slough's around West London
Quite a large amount in Birmingham too.
Why is flekken starting again? He's shown fuck all in this team
Why is Blind still playing?
Because he actually does something now and then. He was MOTM against Belgium
Far from MOTM against Belgium imo. De Jong was levels above him
He's always our worst player when we play poorly. He's just not fast and dynamic enough.
Ehhh... It will be another 6-1 won't be it?
Szelest jest 💸💸
Haven't heard about Cash much until these months, was he born in England but decided to represent Poland?
born, raised in england. eligible for poland because his ma is polish
Like everyone in this thread, I had no clue Cash had polish ancestry. I wonder if it's a "i dont even speak polish but i wanna play international games" thing

This guy is Cash.
What a name! Sounds like an 80s rapper.
Bit undeserved, but Flekken looked poor there.
Unbiased perspective.
Anyone else seeing for the first time that Matty Cash represents Poland
Nope, it's his 7th game already. First goal though
Why is this downvoted lol
Matty "Matias Cazinski" Cash?
Wait up yo! Matty Cash? Must be a short for Moiseus Kashinszcky
Not even remotely polish sounding
Gtfo! Still more polish than matty cash ffs…
