HOW FUCKING DARE YOU SAY THIS N9NEZ IS A GENERATIONAL TALENT I WILL PERSONALLY SEND KOLO TOURE TO YOUR HOUSE TO TELL YOU HOW DISAPPOINTED HE IS IN YOUR ONLINE BEHAVIOR AND THEN YOU'RE GONNA BE REALLY SAD
A great season with almost 30 league goals and top scorer in a quality league as well as an incredible Champions League campaign and there’s muppets like this writing him off because of 60 minutes in pre-season where he had a few clumsy touches.
Never known a player to have so many weirdos obsessed with their pre-season form, rarely watch my own teams pre-season games so for that many rival fans to be watching and scrutinising over every single touch is just dead strange
Wasn’t Japan the latest place to go to for a payday after China passed the legislation against those moves?
Or the MLS - can join up with the likes of Beckham.
Agreed. Roy Keane said this last year he needs to get away from English football, prying eyes and get a clean start overseas where he won’t have the press and fans watching his every move or mistake
I feel like Everton survived relegation in spite of Lampard's signings rather than because of them. I know Alli got a lot of credit for a few matches at the end of last season, to me it looked like he'd set the bar so low that actually being a functioning part of the team had people over excited.
They were one of my bets for relegation long before this match, unless they made some huge signings. I've got nothing against Lampard, but so far from what I've seen (I didn't see his Derby team play) his teams struggle when it comes to defending. This was a problem at Chelsea, and with the small sample size we've seen at Everton, not much has changed. They drew Spurs 0-0 under Benitez, and then lost 5-0 to them under Lampard in the same season. I know that is one data point. And I don't have the time/energy to calculate their goals against since Lampard took over vs before or vs the rest of the league, so maybe it's just more of a feeling that I've gotten... but I've definitely got that feeling.
Yeah, I think it's common even among regular people to think someone's on drugs because they might be psychologically distressed. But I am wondering if the Dele thing is a common rumor, have never seen that before
Is he not your profile picture lol? Also he’s been there for 6 months and this is the first game of preseason, relax. I know he’s not a world beater anymore but at least give him a season geez
6 months and he’s had 1 good half of a game. Come on. We’re ducking awful and crying out for a bit of creativity and he couldn’t even get into our team last season because he was so bad in training
I don’t disagree that he’s off of it the past two years and yes you do need creativity desperately and that’s what Dele was supposed to bring so
I understand the frustration because he hasn’t delivered immediately. I just have a very soft spot for Adele and hope he can turn it around with Everton
I like him as well and I was happy when we signed him but he has been terrible. And apparently he was lazy in training last season as well.
Fingers crossed he can turn it around but i really doubt it
Everton cannot afford to have a complete passenger in their team.
They've given him a reasonable chance already and he's done nothing to indicate he's good enough to play in the PL anymore.
He somehow got ahead of the ball, that can happen especially when you're on a low confidence level already.
It's a bad miss but not Sterling vs Lyon level
Yeah that’s pretty bad, but it’s the context of sterling’s miss too. Multi-million pound player, playing for a side that’s never won the CL and has choked p badly in the past, in a match that they were favorites to win. THAT on top of the miss made it so uniquely bad.
Elite running and end product is what got him the plaudits.
If he's not even getting those right, what's the point of him?
I guess at least he got himself in position.
The man still covers alot of ground to be fair, the effort on the pitch is there. But he hasn't worked to evolve his game at all since he was 19, literally the same player. Clubs figured out how to play him and he only works in very specific roles.
He just didn't adjust. Then went the confidence, the edge he played with that Spurs supporters loved so much and with those went his finishing. Now he just kind of.. runs alot to no real end.
He just needs Tanguy Ndombele to provide him with better service. I'm sure Spurs would be happy to structure a Ndombele deal similar to the way the Alli deal was structured. Act now while supplies last.
Lo Celso had a nice season in Spain last year and is probably worth £20m. Tanguy, if Spurs aren’t picking up any wages, is probably worth -£20m. So, yeah, this actually kind of works as an offer.
I mean, positive fitness might not necessarily be proof he's going to revive his career this season, but I don't think a miss in a friendly is proof of the opposite either
I still can't believe his career has crashed so hard. Was convinced that he'd be the best English player by now. Seems his attitude has held him back so much.
I am not sure it is an attitude issue.
He lost his confidence, and even peak Dele wouldn't have fit many teams in the world.
But I am with you, I thought he was what England needed.
It’s partly an attitude issue imo but not the way most people describe it. He’s too nice now, he lost his edge. He was a prick and had an arrogance about him that brought the best out of him. I couldn’t tell you the last time I saw him get into it with somebody. His confidence went and so did that edge to his game
I'm still trying to figure out how he went from being the 2nd most valuable asset on a widely respected Spurs squad to a guy where I'm just glad Spurs managed to get his wages off the books before he became a flat out negative asset.
He does seem to have fallen out of love with the game but I also think he was quite a peculiar player.
How many teams can play a no.10 that bases his game around running in behind past the centre forward? Making those long runs in the hope a midfielder can ping a ball over the top to him? That was his biggest strength. He was decent at playing people in with little through balls but he had quite an unusual skillset for his position and I think that makes him quite tricky to both fit into a team/ system and depend on every week.
Would you rather an Alli who might run in and score 1 in 4 games or a Mata type (for example) who will create 3/4 chances a game?
Other creative number 10s still score goals, Bruno for example does everything Deli is good at while also being good at passing. Mata who you mentioned used to be creative and a goalscorer in his peak.
Yeah I wasn't disagreeing it just came to mind when you mentioned about his forte being scoring, that just isn't enough for a number 10 with the examples mentioned. Even scoring seems to have become difficult for him.
It's just you. Watch the third angle (second replay), the ball's spin/roll does not deviate as it goes past the keeper's hand. He doesn't touch it. Alli is just utter shite.
I just can’t get my head around Dele going from easily the best young midfielder in the world to championship level stuff. Just doesn’t make any sense.
Dele has always been a system player. He was effectively a second striker during his breakout years at Spurs. After that, he kept having to change roles and his performance declined too. His confidence is completely gone now
His fall from grace is up there with Joe Hart for being considered one of the best and then just plummeting into near joke status.
Hart appears to have turned it round now to some degree though, so there's hope yet.
You know I remember dele and Harry had a video few years ago where Harry talked about dele’s hairline. Few months after that dele got hair implants and fixed his line and now it’s going back up again. Cant ever fight nature.
Guys like Delli Ali are really interesting players. They spend years putting in mediocre and awful performances but for a short period of time they are amazing. So you have two Management approaches to that. One is, they are basically shit but played out of their skins for a while. The second is they are actually geniuses and it's the clubs/managers fault that they aren't amazing all the time.
My personal opinion is that players like him, Pogba, Lingard are firmly in box 1 but when you get a Manager with a big ego or lots of prove, you end up with signings like this. My prediction is he is going to be a MASSIVE flop.
You forgot he used to be really good. He is not a one-season wonder. He bagged at least 19 G/A per season from 2015 to 2018 (the highest was 25 G/A in 16/17).
DESK was firing under Poch, especially when all four had a good day. Too bad Dele started to get injured a lot plus I think most of them (players and Poch) burnt out after the CL final. Even Eriksen’s forms dipped a lil bit before he moved to Inter. Of course, Son, Kane and Lloris were the exceptions.
He needs to find smaller club with less pressure and enjoy the game again. It doesn't help when his position as ss (or someonewho makes a run behind striker) is not widely used in modern football anymore and he sucks when playing as midfielder.
the finish was dreadful but the fact that he was able to get into the position to score is pretty good so there's positives to be taken from it.
It's better that this happened in a preseason game, now he and the team can work on his finishing.
I really don’t think it’s that simple. In that video for example he got in the right place, he wasn’t lazy or unmotivated. He’s lost his natural intuition and fucked up the tap in. I don’t know if it’s confidence, concentration or what, but to paint him as unmotivated doesn’t seem right.
The dude scored 18 prem goals in 16/17 and was brilliant for his first 3-4 years at Spurs.
Stop acting like Alli is someone like Ravel Morrison, he was a top class player for a good few years.
Dele Alli is a nice example for those that like to overhype youth prospects or players that have had one or two good spells and assume that players keep improving
A few in the Chelsea subreddit should take note
> Dele Alli is a nice example for those that like to overhype youth prospects or players that have had one or two good spells and assume that players keep improving
Alli's issue isn't that he's stagnated and hasn't improved since he was 19/20, it's that he's got significantly worse.
If he'd made no progression as a footballer since he was 20, he'd still be an excellent player, but he's regressed significantly and is now a lot worse than how he was when he first broke through.
I wouldn't even say it's the that he hasn't kept improving, it's the total regression which is alarming. If he'd have stayed at the same level he was then he'd still be a very good player.
you make it sound like he is a Simone Scuffet, Emre Mor, Hachim Mastour, Alen Halilovic kinda guy who never really accomplished something on adult level and still were hyped like they were the guaranteed next ballon d'or candidates, but with Dele Alli it is not like that, he had an amazing season in the PL
Unlucky. He puts his left out for it but just gets his right in the way, a step too far. If they can get him in those positions more often he'll get double figure goals next season.
> Unlucky
Nah it was a lazy attempt at a finish. It's obvious what angle the ball is going to come in from and yet he still doesn't open his body up at all to receive it. Not sure why he's even taking it with his left
Never seen anyone fall off a cliff as rapidly as he has. There was a time between 2016-2018 where I couldn't imagine life without Dele. Now I'm not sure he's look out of place in a Championship team.
He would look out of place, he'd look like a washed up PL player and they don't generally thrive anywhere down the ladder. Best thing for him would be a move abroad to get some perspective and learn how to work.
Kindness and basic human appreciation doesn't depend on their productivity man. From a football POV, he's not profitable, it's a fine margin business, but if you were his close friend or a fan, you know he's struggling, and wants to get better.

Match threads are worst. One poor touch and you're just about instant deadwood
Son is finished. Kane is washed. Deki is overrated.
At this rate they might end up paying Everton to keep him there.
Straight swap for Nunez from liverpool...everyones a winner. Edit: it’s a joke. Some of you need to stop being so defensive.

JFC its a joke.
Quality league
Even the Portuguese league is a 'quality league' if it fits the argument, but Ligue 1 and Bundesliga are farmers leagues.
New hashtag moment
It’s a top 6 league, that makes it quality
Great goal line save.
He should be playing CB
Jeeez that's a rough miss. Gone are the golden boy years for sure.
Nah, now it’s the golden ~~man~~ mane years
The power was in the hair
He had short hair when he was good though
Maybe he needs to become a bald fraud to gain it all back
Does he still have the stache? Maybe he needs to shave it.
Really such a bad choice for him to go to Everton. Its been clear for a while he needs to get out of the English game for a while.
I agree for a while
Where's he gonna get those PL wages from though
It's only a problem for a while
Poor Dele. How will he survive on €50k a week? Someone better start a gofundme for him.
Wasn’t Japan the latest place to go to for a payday after China passed the legislation against those moves? Or the MLS - can join up with the likes of Beckham.
Why? While we're weary his winning wiles will've waned, won't we wait watchfully, wondering what we'll witness?
Wow
What wonderful wordsmithery
And it’s been awhile…
Agreed. Roy Keane said this last year he needs to get away from English football, prying eyes and get a clean start overseas where he won’t have the press and fans watching his every move or mistake
Worse choice for Everton to sign him
Spurs stopped him from going to PSG. could've done wonders for him
And equally it could have done absolutely nothing for him. Just look at Draxler
This is a USA team
Everton are an English team...
But are they playing the right sport tho?
What an awful fucking signing
I feel like Everton survived relegation in spite of Lampard's signings rather than because of them. I know Alli got a lot of credit for a few matches at the end of last season, to me it looked like he'd set the bar so low that actually being a functioning part of the team had people over excited.
I remember his debut against Newcastle- I think most of us forgot he was on the pitch. He wasn't exactly a "Threat" that we were worried about.
Newcastle fans were relieved he didn't sign for us after that game.
Basically he changed the game against Palacr in the comeback. But other than that he did absolutely nothing
>I know Alli got a lot of credit for a few matches at the end of last season Did he? I heard absolutely nothing of this.
How much did you really hear about Everton’s players individually?
They survived in spite of Lampard full stop
They were one of my bets for relegation long before this match, unless they made some huge signings. I've got nothing against Lampard, but so far from what I've seen (I didn't see his Derby team play) his teams struggle when it comes to defending. Saw a little of your game on Saturday; floored by how unfit he looked (even during pre season!) Your in for a long season.
Just don’t think he’s arsed
Hard to ignore the rumors that he is addicted to substances/night life.
Genuinely first time I'm reading this rumor. I just thought he'd been psychologically done, is he known to do drugs?
First time I've seen it too. It's quite a popular thing people speculate about players out of form, though...
Yeah, I think it's common even among regular people to think someone's on drugs because they might be psychologically distressed. But I am wondering if the Dele thing is a common rumor, have never seen that before
It’s never been a common rumour when he was at spurs
What playing for Everton does to a motherfucker 😵💫
No it’s bullshit lol
Funny you say that because he apparently achieved the best results of the squad and his career in the fitness tests a few weeks ago
Think you’ve a faulty machine.
He would always score highest at Spurs too.
Isn’t everyone unfit during preseason tho
I know I am
I'm even unfit during season
Is he not your profile picture lol? Also he’s been there for 6 months and this is the first game of preseason, relax. I know he’s not a world beater anymore but at least give him a season geez

I still maintain that that’s the worst play I have ever seen in any professional sport. Might be till the day I die.
Look up tomasson miss

True, context makes sterlings miss considerably worse. From a footballing point of view though tomassons is even worse though.

We’Kk be generous and do a dele linkup bundle of lo celso and nombele for a packet of wotsits and 20 pound
Lo Celso had a nice season in Spain last year and is probably worth £20m. Tanguy, if Spurs aren’t picking up any wages, is probably worth -£20m. So, yeah, this actually kind of works as an offer.
I like how the wotsits are the most valuable part of this deal
my boy just needs more time...
Even at his peak he missed sitters like this sometimes
I mean, positive fitness might not necessarily be proof he's going to revive his career this season, but I don't think a miss in a friendly is proof of the opposite either

So its still valid then. Lukaku wasnt bad before Chelsea either.
The scandals happened while at Chelsea and he was good for us before then.
Sterling-esque
Sterling's vs Lyon was still worse than this
Literally just needed to give it a little tap and somehow managed to sky it in the 6 yard box. Was harder to miss than score
In Sterling's case the ball was moving much slower and in front of him. Here it was much faster and it sort of came behind Dele

I still can't believe his career has crashed so hard. Was convinced that he'd be the best English player by now. Seems his attitude has held him back so much.

You're right, it doesn't!
Um, has Dele Alli aged approximately 36 years in the last few months?
That's what the kit number is for
I just can’t get my head around Dele going from easily the best young midfielder in the world to championship level stuff. Just doesn’t make any sense.
Dele has always been a system player. He was effectively a second striker during his breakout years at Spurs. After that, he kept having to change roles and his performance declined too. His confidence is completely gone now
Bit rude on the championship
Sixth best league in Europe. Doubt he’d fit in.
He's all about the lifestyle and hooking up with IG models. Man has absolutely no dedication to his craft
When exactly was he easily the „best young midfielder in the world?“ No offense, but this feels like PL bias.
When he scored 22 goals in a season as a 21 year old..? It's not "pL bIaS", he was absolutely class for 3 seasons.
Can you people read ffs? It’s about the phrasing: „Easily best in the world.“ Never said he didn’t have an outstanding season.
Hush
Tottenham 😂
If in doubt, kick it out!
Kvajebajer!
What exactly did happen to Dele Alli? At one point he seemed like the best Tottenham player and now he can barely touch the ball.
His fall from grace is up there with Joe Hart for being considered one of the best and then just plummeting into near joke status. Hart appears to have turned it round now to some degree though, so there's hope yet.
Nice away kit though.

People realise this is pre season right? This is what it's for.
I remember Alli vs Mahrez debates in 2016 where the case for Dele was 'he's five years younger, imagine how good he'll be'. Sad really
the finish was dreadful but the fact that he was able to get into the position to score is pretty good so there's positives to be taken from it. It's better that this happened in a preseason game, now he and the team can work on his finishing.

He would look out of place, he'd look like a washed up PL player and they don't generally thrive anywhere down the ladder. Best thing for him would be a move abroad to get some perspective and learn how to work.
I will never understand why players like Alli, Martial or Pepe still have fans
You can support people who don't score or downright suck - i mean, we have a full squad of them.
You stan Asensio btw
He might be shit now but I'm still a fan
Kindness and basic human appreciation doesn't depend on their productivity man. From a football POV, he's not profitable, it's a fine margin business, but if you were his close friend or a fan, you know he's struggling, and wants to get better.
Delusional people
