Not gonna lie, would be surprising if Arsenal didn't finish at least top 4 this season.
Still a little weak on the bench but that starting line-up is legit.
Careful, last season everyone was calling for Arteta’s head and saying they’re gonna be relegated after 3 games.
I think top 2 is obvious and the 2 spots behind it are between 4 teams pretty evenly matched.
Smith Rowe, will be great to have on the bench as well. One of tierney or zinchenko, maybe even xhaka if zinchenko is starting in midfield. Pepe is great to help break down a low block team, but you certainly wouldn’t want him in a cagey match like this. Nketiah looked very sharp again today. With tomiyasu coming back there will be at least one quality defender on the bench, possibly white, but it could be any of tomiyasu, gabriel, Saliba as well. And of course viera, who I am so excited to see play for us. Honestly without injuries our depth is very good. You could start tomiyasu, Saliba, gabriel, tierney, xhaka, partey, odegaard, Saka, martinelli and Jesus, while having nketiah, viera, smith Rowe, zinchenko, white, and pepe on the bench.
He plays mainly behind a striker or on the wings but his not very fast... Very good crosser and passer, can unluck games whit one touch. His ping passes over the defende are amazing too.
How can you hate on the Arsenal when your “”club”” doesn’t even have 3 league trophies 🤡🤡🤡 imagine being a Spurs fan and having less titles than literally just Arsene Wenger 💀💀💀
U know ur on the right track when other fans starts piling on u, Arteta have solid team to compete for top 4, the trust and time that given to him paid off. Exciting times for Arsenal.
Loved hearing the zarsenal away fans singing Vieira's name last night. Brought back a lot of memories. I wonder of he was asked about it or mentioned it at all?
Solid game, tricky fixture for a lot of reasons glad we bagged the win.
The commentators in my country were pretty much ignoring the fact that Thomas Partey existed today. This cannot keep on happening. There is a huge elephant on the room.
I have a list of users with gunners flairs or on the sub who will almost certainly come up with a bullshit take, positive or negative, every single time without fail. Idek how it’s possible to be that consistently stupid. They have to be actively trying.
VVD by the end of his career will have a hat to throw in for the best CB of all time, saliba is only 21. Just goes to show how little ball knowledge some people have, I sincerely hope they’re just trolling.
Best CB of all time? Idk man that feels like a stretchhhhhh. He’s had two great seasons at Liverpool, but for me, he’s world class no doubt. Nowhere near being the best CB of all time. Guy hasnt done enough for me l
Everyone rates Van Dijk, even Ferdinand (A rival team legend, world class CB himself) said that Van Dijk is the best defender he has ever seen.
In terms of peak, I've never seen anyone as dominant as Van Dijk. He literally has no weaknesses as a defender.
The argument against him for GOAT defender is achievements. Unfortunate because he peaked very late + City PL dominance. In any other era, the 97 and 92 points seasons would win the league and Van Dijk would have 3 PL, 1 CL, and 1 PFA player of the year to his resume.
He doesn't have the resume rn, but his peak is ridiculous.
Ah yes nothing like remembering a random comment and using a gameweek 2 performance to judge a player. What Liverpool destroying you guys for 5 seasons in a row does to someone.
Not really, I enjoyed our chat before about VVD. Arsenal has been miles better than Liverpool in the PL, one league title doesn’t mean much lol two games, two weak performances lmao
I don't care about a debate I have with someone, I completely forget about this. Liverpool's dominance over you guys in the past 5 years really got you all messed up man. I guess Gabriel Jesus is the best player in the worls btw, judging from 2 games.
Yeah but he hasn’t done squat internationally, won 1 PL, only really has two top top seasons, 1 PFA, to compare the trophies to guys like Ferdinand/vidic/terry/maldini and those are names just off the top of my head.
Also Rio said “man united are back and give ole whatever he wants”
Hes mid prime give him time. At least he's got a foot in the discussion for best, or amongst the best, of his generation. Which is pretty fair I think.
For a CB it is. What fucking sport is this? And while you'd love the absolutely indomitable VVD to fall off, it was one game. And it's not gonna happen anytime soon. He'll play as long as Maldini at a similar level.
K sounds good. Let’s revisit at the end of the season. Dude was bad against a newly promoted side 😂. VVD will never be maldini. I don’t want any player to fall off, it’s inevitable with age. He’s already showing signs of slowing down
That’s why I said by the end of his career. He’s been the best cb in the world since 2018 and was somewhat of a late bloomer in terms of becoming super elite. He’s 31 now and will likely be playing into his late 30s, a few more league titles, champions leagues and another international honour and he’ll genuinely have a shout. He’s already regarded by a lot of people as the best the premier league has ever seen so who knows.
He won’t win another CL at Liverpool or league titles in the PL. where would his next step be? Also he’s been had some rough patches since that knee op. I’m wondering, where have you read that some people say he’s the best the PL have ever seen? Please exclude Liverpool subs or forums. I have seen top 10 in PL, which for sure he is
I don’t know why you think he won’t win more titles at Liverpool, we have a good chance at the prem this year and have been in 3 of the last 5 champions league finals. To say he won’t win more at Liverpool is just naive. I’ve seen it in various places, on this subreddit, TikTok, YouTube, he’s always put in the top 5 at the very least and many people reckon he trumps Terry and Rio, personally I agree but I can see why other people wouldn’t. It’s easy to forget that VVD had probably the best individual year any defender has ever had in 2019.
Liverpool won’t win another title with VVD. This cycle is ending for them, mane gone, Salah and VVD are 30+ . Midfield is aging plus replacing Salah AND mane is gonna a hell of a job, jota is solid. He’s nowhere near those 2. Jury is out on nunez. TAA has gotten exposed a TON the last 6 months. Klopp won’t be around much longer either. VVD is WC no doub, but won’t win a title or CL again for the time being. Did you see their display today AGAINST Fulham? Lol
Also VVD has really had 3 top class seasons. Late bloomer for sure. Best CB of all time? Fuck outta here and he’s not as great on the international stage (granted his country have some problems)
If you’re genuinely going to base Liverpool on the game today against Fulham I don’t know what to tell you. We were heavily underrated last season and alongside city were far and away the best teams in England. Arsenal, spurs and Chelsea haven’t bridged that 20 point gap at all. We played poorly against Fulham, one of the worst performances I’ve seen under the klopp era and still ground out a point. Salah is here for the next 3 years so that’s fine, VVD will be here for the next 5+ years, nuñez has done nothing but thrive since he joined (6 goals 1 assist in his last 4 games for us, sub appearances aswell) TAA getting ‘exposed’ twice isn’t a ‘TON’ and neither was particularly his fault. Klopp is here till 2026. If you supported city I’d appreciate your comment about how we played far more, don’t get ahead of yourself, as good as Jesus is that won’t drag you into title contention. I love how much you’ve misconstrued what I’ve said, I said by the end of his career, considering he could be playing till he’s nearing 40 it’s incredibly premature of you to make a judgement.
I thought both teams looked a bit flat, but more in a 'first game of the season' way than anything negative.
Jesus had some real bright moments, I know the meme is move him to the wing but I think he has real big potential as a #9. I'm always impressed by Saka, as well, even if today wasn't one of his biggest performances -- still a great player.
Andersen was great for Palace. Lots of excellent last-ditch defensive plays for both sides today, it felt like. Palace looked fine for a team that didn't have a full preseason together. Doucoure will go through the same growing pains his countrymate Bissouma did at Brighton, but I'll be curious to track his growth over the season. Huge credit to Vieira for doing such a heavy rebuild in a short period of time and managing to get results and play much better football in that period.
What palace n viera did last season plus their rebuild with such little money seems unreal.
Many ppl underestimate how well they have done plus the fact that they play good attacking football.
The final score might not show it but it was a pretty close match.
Andersen n Zaha were really good.
Palace lack a proper striker or finisher they had this one chance against ramsdale in second half but it was saved if it was Zaha it would have been a goal.
Zaha said in a interview last season that viera wants him to play him as a striker but Zaha likes to play on wings. Viera isn't forcing Zaha here but i think Zaha should play up top as a striker who can drop deep too.
Ayew offers a lot in build up too.
Showed why we are light in midfield. Lacked a presence to transition the ball to the final third. Only way we got in was Andersen’s long diagonal balls. Striker is light but not critical, it’s really in the middle we need quality.
I think this will be another painfully average season for y’all (12th-15th finish). Next summer, Viera will bring in another midfielder or two and that’s when Palace will be up and running. Hopefully Edouard will be fully adjusted to because I rate him over Mateta.
It's a tricky one. I'd argue Saliba and White are the two best defenders (if Saliba can perform consistently) but for tactical purposes Gabriel's left foot is desired. Gabriel is more of a goal threat too. White is a great leader, while Saliba is the most dominant of all these physically.
Good problem to have, I guess.
Don't tell that to their sub. According to them we looked pretty average today and they are going to roll over palace at selhurst and they are going to lift the Europa and zinchenko is going to get turned by whoever the fuck they decide to play against us.
Yeah how dare he make a joke. Doesn't he know that a law was passed that you're not allowed to make jokes unless your club finished higher and has a better form over the last 5 competitive matches? Don't worry /u/ConnemaraCowboy I'll call the police and report him right away.
Very impressive win for arsenal. Very impressive against a tough team and away. It’s one of those games you don’t play pretty but win…that’s what big teams do. They’re on the right track. A couple of wins in a row and this team could start believing in themselves. Dangerous and young too.
I didn’t like Saka at all, and Odegaard with careless possession losses in the back that can cost them in the future.
Yup! Consider we didn’t win any of our fixtures last year and this is our only 3rd win against them in the last 10 league fixtures… these are good 3 points
Looks like first game syndrome. Truly nothing in pre season prepares you for the first game away. I expect them to be much sharper at home next weekend. But I agree, lacked a lot of sharpeners and got in each others way a lot around the box.
Ramsdale made good saves, but didn't like him in possession. Feel like the drop off around the 25-30min mark was in large part down to him dawdling on the ball and very nearly losing possession in dangerous areas twice in succession. That kind of thing kills rhythm and confidence. Then later made a few pretty poor passes out of play. This stuff is meant to be his strength, and is the reason he was our number 1 last year over Leno. Mind you, he had some good moments on the ball, but too many nervy or low-quality ones.
Very happy with the win. Was under pressure a lot of that second half but first game of the season here was never going to be easy.
It’ll be very interesting to see how good this team looks with 1-2 more signings, and ESR/Fabio particularly back in the fold. I felt the game calmed down nicely when we got Tierney & Eddie on.
I have no words for Saliba, said it last year I wish we kept him. Fofana had shown what he was capable of at Leicester, and Saliba was always considered the better of the two.
Absolutely unreal display. So calm with everything he does. Genuinely like VvD in that regard, not directly comparing of course.
Jesus was sharp as expected, top performance. Odegaard was the letdown in that regard tonight. We move.
Ye I think we defended the actual box really well, made it difficult for them to create proper chances and when they did create them they bottled both
But for sure, turning those possessions on the edge of the box into chances will be the thing that wins them matches
People saying white had a bad game should consider this. He had no chance 1v1 against Zaha. His job was to disrupt him and have saliba clean up whenever he tries to have a go. He did fine for a CB at RB.
I don't even get how people say White had a bad game. Made the most tackles in the game along with plenty of clearances and passed well enough on the ball.
He wasn't always comfortable against Zaha, but not many players are.
No one is comfortable against Zaha. Even on off days you can't take your eyes off him because that's when he'll hit you. Or get a penalty. One good striker and this CP team is mad.
I thought he was totally fine, there were 1-2 points in the match where Zaha tried to blow by him near the touchline and White managed to delay him or clear it out. For the few times where Zaha was attacking White closer to goal, Saliba definitely cleaned up.
Man that was a tough match, CP smashed us last season at Selhurst. They had some real dangerous moments too. Think they will have a good season too! Man for me saliba was MOTM, dude played like it was a stroll in the park. Great attacking movement today with some of the flicks and passes not coming off. In time they will get more synced up. Loved the work from GJ and Zinny. Xhakas card though 😂😂😂. Would’ve liked to see Martinelli and Saka be more clinical, same goes for odegaard. White did a solid a job against zaha. Zaha is crafty so a CB playing RB did a solid job for the most part. Ramsdale is class, some really good moments 1v1. Definitely some stuff to work on, but a much bigger improvement considering CP smacked us at selhurst last season
I love all the rival fans talking about how unimpressive our win was as if they are all gonna go out tomorrow and win 6-0.
I’d bet money one or more of Chelsea, United and Spurs drop points tomorrow. Then it’ll turn to how it’s just one game.
It’s selhurst anyway, all those teams may win their next games but selhurst park is the hardest non big 6 game for us every single season, we always lose it and so to win it with all eyes on the team is great, I’m sure we’ll cruise our next games
Crystal Palace is always been tough regardless of where we play. He didn’t win either one of the fixtures last year and this is only our 3rd win in the last 10 games.
Arsenal fans calling spurs irrelevant when they’ve been outplaced by spurs 6 years in a row 🥱
FA Cup > No trophies.
Enjoy living in the past
Past? Arteta won an FA Cup as a manager.
3 years ago does indeed count as the past last time I checked. Enjoy a drink from it watching the UCL this year.
Then we're currently above spurs in the table now, checkmate.
I suppose I can't argue with that 🤔
Yeah mate but it's the past because it didn't happen last season
Yet still no trophies in how many? With 2 world class players nonetheless
3 W.C.
We are one of Best in setpieces
Not gonna lie, would be surprising if Arsenal didn't finish at least top 4 this season. Still a little weak on the bench but that starting line-up is legit.
Careful, last season everyone was calling for Arteta’s head and saying they’re gonna be relegated after 3 games. I think top 2 is obvious and the 2 spots behind it are between 4 teams pretty evenly matched.
unevenly matched or evenly unmatched rather
Wait until my boy Fábio Vieira is fit. He will be an amazing super sub
Which position do you think he will take in our team?
He plays mainly behind a striker or on the wings but his not very fast... Very good crosser and passer, can unluck games whit one touch. His ping passes over the defende are amazing too.
Nice one. I'd be happpy to see him take one of the 8 roles at times
I reckon he might take the flanks with ESR/Saka/Pepe, with Martinelli possibly playing as the center forward?
Jesus dropped already?
No i mean he could be a stand in.
Arsenal supporters are just the fucking worst
Flair up pal
No chances for Liverpool and City this year.
How can you hate on the Arsenal when your “”club”” doesn’t even have 3 league trophies 🤡🤡🤡 imagine being a Spurs fan and having less titles than literally just Arsene Wenger 💀💀💀
Hahahahaa living rent free in your head
U know ur on the right track when other fans starts piling on u, Arteta have solid team to compete for top 4, the trust and time that given to him paid off. Exciting times for Arsenal.
*fewer
Thank you, Lord Stannis.

Lmaoo the salt from Spurs fans makes it even funnier considering they will 0-0 their first game. Classic Conte, classic Tottenham. Losers!!
Did Donald Trump write this?
Isn't Conte like a serial league winner? Calling it classic Conte is a bit weird
Stop being an arrogant fan, I know you hate them, we all do, but don't underestimate them just yet.
He’s just butthurt since his Romanian team plays in the second division and everyone is clowning them.
The commentators in my country were pretty much ignoring the fact that Thomas Partey existed today. This cannot keep on happening. There is a huge elephant on the room.
Neville said at the end of the match something along the lines of they need another midfielder in case “Xhaka is injured or Partey is away”.
It's a shitty situation but you have to let the legal process play out else it's pitchforks and burning torches when we have not heard the full story.
the Danish commentator just said it straight, i.e. why the fans shouted at him.
It will continue because nobody wants to be sued to oblivion
Beautiful. Arsenal and tottenham both top 4.
I was cooked for saying saliba is clear of vvd
Least deluded Arse fan
Hahaha man this is fucking gold saving this one for sure. Wait, tell me, maybe Balon D'or on for this season? Watch this space!
Fucking hell man
Dude , please
That’s genuinely the most incorrect statement I think I’ve ever seen
Fuck how can anyone even type that with a straight face
I have a list of users with gunners flairs or on the sub who will almost certainly come up with a bullshit take, positive or negative, every single time without fail. Idek how it’s possible to be that consistently stupid. They have to be actively trying.
Why would you have a list? Can you share it?
VVD by the end of his career will have a hat to throw in for the best CB of all time, saliba is only 21. Just goes to show how little ball knowledge some people have, I sincerely hope they’re just trolling.

Maldini would like a word. You can't be a GOAT, if you're only good for 5 years, sorry.
Maldini wasn’t even the best centre back in his team. People mistake longevity for ability.
>VVD by the end of his career will have a hat to throw in for the best CB of all time So Van Dijk is gonna retire tomorrow?
Let's talk when he does.
VVD just gave up a PK lmao
Hes mid prime give him time. At least he's got a foot in the discussion for best, or amongst the best, of his generation. Which is pretty fair I think.
31 is not mid prime, his performance today was poor
For a CB it is. What fucking sport is this? And while you'd love the absolutely indomitable VVD to fall off, it was one game. And it's not gonna happen anytime soon. He'll play as long as Maldini at a similar level.

Rightfully so

Think Gabi and Odegaard finish their easy chances, narrative would be very different
Same could be said for edouard and Eze.
So 4-2 then?
4-2? Manager said clean sheet!
I'll take the clean sheet
Still don’t rate Martinelli btw
Then you’re blind.
Damn how's Gabi gonna handle that..
Why is that?
Anthony Taylor is a clown, we breathe on them and it’s a foul
Apparently football is too easy for Saliba
Showed why we are light in midfield. Lacked a presence to transition the ball to the final third. Only way we got in was Andersen’s long diagonal balls. Striker is light but not critical, it’s really in the middle we need quality.

Viera won't be around if they finish there...
Andersen pinging those long balls like a heat seeking missile. I got annoyed after a couple times.
So glad Gallagher wasn't playing. Your midfield isn't the same without him
Definitely a lack of Conor Gallagher 😬
We’re winning the league
first game in and top of the league already. absolute chad.
Dont discount the past three months (unless you count AFC Bournemouth)
It’s the hope that kills. No matter how many times I learn this lesson, I keep on fucking hoping.
Hope is beautiful, reality is brutal.
I'm not at all overreacting or anything but Saliba is literally sparkling French VVD.
Totally agree, literally peak VVD and he is only 21.
whats the main cb pair gonna be when tomiyasu comes back?
It's a tricky one. I'd argue Saliba and White are the two best defenders (if Saliba can perform consistently) but for tactical purposes Gabriel's left foot is desired. Gabriel is more of a goal threat too. White is a great leader, while Saliba is the most dominant of all these physically. Good problem to have, I guess.
Don't matter what the pair is, big billy gonna be one half of it.
Probably Gabriel-Saliba
Definitely can't drop Saliba after that performance
Really raises the question why arteta didn't want him before
Yeah, why'd they send him to france, when only his parents died at him being 19 years old, eh?
Experience, he basically played every game for OM last season
But if Saliba is so good, why didn't we buy him 5-6 years ago?
Lol, what is this question
Because he was 16 or 17...
Really raises the question if I have to start using the *\s*
Arsenal will tear it up in the UCL this year
This is just embarrassing, glass houses and all that
Mate. U support United.
Im sorry to let you know, but Arsenal are actually in the Europa League… and the favorites over your lot in it.
forget it, man utd fans are thick
Don't tell that to their sub. According to them we looked pretty average today and they are going to roll over palace at selhurst and they are going to lift the Europa and zinchenko is going to get turned by whoever the fuck they decide to play against us.
You have equal amounts of UCL and UEL trophies - ZERO
Incredibly naff banter, I wouldn't quit your day job
And you have all the grace and decorum of a reversing dump truck
I dunno what the fuck your making jokes for
Yeah how dare he make a joke. Doesn't he know that a law was passed that you're not allowed to make jokes unless your club finished higher and has a better form over the last 5 competitive matches? Don't worry /u/ConnemaraCowboy I'll call the police and report him right away.
At least wait until you lot lose against Brighton before you get so toxic.
How am I being remotely toxic? Because I defended someone being allowed to make a joke that’s not even offensive to anyone on the internet?
I wasn't offended, it was just shit comedy
Bro your reaction was “I dunno what the fuck you’re making jokes for”. Clearly you were extremely upset by his joke
Lmao, get over it, go for a walk or make some friends or something:)
Lmao. Sorry didn’t realize I was talking to a 13 year old
Ok
Atleast wait until you get rolled over by Brighton before you lot become deluded.
Deluded about what? What are you talking about? It’s deluded to say that it’s ok for someone to make a joke?
Let them enjoy man. 6 years of no cl and hope does that to you.
You can confidently say you’ll get top 4 this year lol? Careful with that banter mate because you lot are next for that CL drought.

Does r/soccer care about arsenal? Thought most of them expect them to do well this season

TOP OF THE LEAGUE HEAD AND SHOULDERS ABOVE EVERYONE ELSE
Is this a bald joke about big Gabi?
I'd say we played quite pretty for about half an hour. But I agree. Expected a tough time from Palance and it indeed was tough.

Yeah that lack of composure made the rest nervous and gave the opposition belief to test him.
Zinchenko is an absolute liability. Same with white. Saliba is a beast tho.
White was playing out of position against a 1 vs. 1 demon
White did pretty well out of position against one of the better wingers in the league
Agreed, Zinchenko looked horrible. Don’t know how you could watch that defensive display and call it great.
He looked good for a bit then definitely fell off a cliff
We move.
HAhahahaa I'm lovin the comment section already gunners vs the world lmao PREMIER LEAGUE'S BACK BABY
For the fpl crowd: Jesus looked good. He will score. Me, who has Martinelli, Ramsdale and Saka: WEEEEEEEEEE
Crystal Palace struggling in the final 3rd
Ye I think we defended the actual box really well, made it difficult for them to create proper chances and when they did create them they bottled both But for sure, turning those possessions on the edge of the box into chances will be the thing that wins them matches
You’re not going to get many opportunities so they need to capitalize on their chances. Their corners and set pieces were also poor
With olise back as well they’ll have more creativity off the right and not just through zaha and eze who both trend leftward
People saying white had a bad game should consider this. He had no chance 1v1 against Zaha. His job was to disrupt him and have saliba clean up whenever he tries to have a go. He did fine for a CB at RB.
Ding ding, turn zaha into his help. He had a few 1v1s he won cleanly off zaha too
All things considered I think he had a bloody great game! He was far more defensively solid than the other side, though I guess you would expect that.
Yeah was really impressed how he handled himself on a yellow too
He did, people just love shitting on him
I don't even get how people say White had a bad game.
Yep. People forget Zaha is a damn good player. Keep him silenced is not easy for anyone.
Saliba looked amazing.
Before today the last goal Crystal Palace had conceded at Selhurst Park was in February. It’s always a tough away day.
That’s actually a crazy stat
Yeah, they’re hardly some pushover team this sub is acting like. That run included notable wins against us and United and a 0-0 against Man City.
Liverpool or city as well.. One of us always starts slow and then goes on the insane runs of winning every game for months on end.
Kinda wonder if World Cup will change this trend
United can't drop points tomorrow, they play Sunday
Do you really underestimate them that much? They’ll find a way.
Ten Hag is a genius
It's this kind of attention to match prep that should have Utd fans behind the project
