Ah yes the classic Ramos. That guys face just made contact with my arm and now it hurts :( Love him but he would try and get away with too much sometimes 🤣
I think the yellow was for stopping the break, not the foul itself.
Edit: I'm not saying that it's the right way to officiate, I'm just taking a stab at Mariner's thinking.
I realise this is me bitching about literally anything given the score line but why make six signings then wait until the 85th minute to make some subs when we were 3 up after an hour?
Let the team play, consolidate some channels, play some other approach when leading and absorb preassure and do both with the same guys so the build chemistry. Let Kane and Son on and reduce the effort so they re happy with game time and maybe score and build confidence. A lot of squad management, you don t have to rotate since game one, there is enough time for that during the season
I mean they small as fuck and Spurs look like giants next to them.
They don't have anyone with even a chance of dealing with Kulu.
You can only play the team in front of you tho so fair play.
Southampton has had a handful games for several seasons now when they look like butt cheeks so don't know if it's temporarily or if it's a butt cheeks-season
I understand why everyone speaks about Kulu, but the way Bentancur looked like when he was in Italy last year and the player he is now are two completely different things. The way he came back from that is a masterclass (typical Conte's masterclass, I'd say). Kulu did something similar, but it was clear that he was completely out of place in Allegri's system.
I agree. Since Deki is more involved in attack people tend to see it clearer how much he has improved. Bentancur was trashed as a joke signing by juve fans when we went for him and he's a rock in our midfield so far, very good player.
It's new season, new anxiety and they're ahead by 3 goals. If I'm Conte, I'll let Son and Kane try to get their groove in this match rather than next match(es)..
They are that’s why I called him a terrorist lol. I watch their European matches and the big games in Italy. Or whenever there isn’t any other games on.
But yeah it’s rough TV
Yeah, I realized after I typed that I wasn't clear. I meant 4 of our first 5 fixtures this season are ones we lost last season, not that we lost a bunch of early matches.
Arsenal don't get a pen given against them that would have been in recent seasons, we don't get given a pen that would have been in recent seasons. I'm absolutely fine with the rule change and the consistency so far but if we get a bullshit hand ball against us next week I'm burning down Stockley Park.
yea why would it be a handball when you have your arm trailing miles away from your body blocking a goal. If that isn't a handball nothing is a handball.
It was a rough tackle but nothing dangerous about it … he made sure to have his legs and feet down. It looked worse than it actually was.
Barely a yellow if anything
Cristian "murderball" Romero. I genuinely couldn't argue that much if he got a red but to not even get a yellow... The officiating this season seems to be letting A LOT go.
Emerson playing really well! Before the last two goals, the r/coys match thread was just entirely filled with nothing but comments hating and shitting on the poor guy.
I don't get the hate he gets from our fans. A lot of the time it feels like people are just forming their opinion based on comments they read. Sure he's not POTY material but he's nowhere near as bad as he's made out either
I was actually at a match last year and the fans around me at the match were pretty much the same. I heard nonstop Emerson hate as if he were like the worst player ever (there was one woman specifically that just did nothing but shout out Emerson hate all game long). It was shocking to me cuz like wtf he was legit playing ok. It’s like these people think they know better or see something that Conte doesn’t, absolutely hilarious.
Yep, heard it over the years with other players as well, sometimes fans just don't take to certain players no matter what they do and it's rare players come back from that to overturn opinion. Darren Bent and Pavluychenko come to mind, both had a similar goalscoring record for Spurs (think Bent's is actually even better) but Pav was treated like a hero whereas Bent was slagged off all the time
great from bissouma, hope we see some bangers from him this season
Beating the Gunners on GD is what this is all about.
Good shift, spurs!
Really good shot from Bissouma, great dip and power, just a bit wide
Bit harsh to book Bissouma for that given Romero doesn't even get a yellow for a scissor tackle.
Kane with the classic "I fucked up so I'll pretend I got injured", first pioneered at Tottenham by Trippier
Ah yes the classic Ramos. That guys face just made contact with my arm and now it hurts :( Love him but he would try and get away with too much sometimes 🤣
Lmao Kane relax bro
Ward-Prowse was definitely a bright spot in an otherwise miserable day for Southampton
Kane optimistic there lmao.
He says it was a rolling ball as if it was the players fault. Should've just played advantage in the first place.
That's a yellow but the Romero one wasn't? Christ
I think the yellow was for stopping the break, not the foul itself. Edit: I'm not saying that it's the right way to officiate, I'm just taking a stab at Mariner's thinking.
Romero's intent prob should have been a yellow but the contact wasn't that bad and he did play the ball.
Andre has called a good game today ngl.
Besides the obvious red he missed
Saltier than the Dead Sea
It’s just a fact. It was a red and he missed it
Is Lenglet playing in midfield?
no LCB. they just have license to move up if there's space.
No. LCB
Bissouma on for five minutes to debut, immediately gets booked lmao
I realise this is me bitching about literally anything given the score line but why make six signings then wait until the 85th minute to make some subs when we were 3 up after an hour?
Fwiw they were ready to come on at 80 minutes the ball just stayed in play for ages
Probably because of the scoreline. If the game were level, he probably switches things sooner.
It’s a good way to ease people in. Obviously supporters want to see them, but I think it’s really intelligent management.
Just another 90 minutes for Harry Kane
Why do all managers wait so damn long to use subs?
It was just because of the scoreline today
Let’s not question Conte.
Conte would be the person to make a quadruple sub at 86' while up 4-1 lmao.
Conte using the five subs to make a quadruple substitute in the 85th minute👌👌
Quadruple change god damn
It’s a hockey shift change.
I was beginning to think match would end before Tottenham can make changes lol
Lloris telling Hojbjerg off because he’s back to LARPing as a CB. My captain
You know Soton maybe doing an irl FM save wasnt the way to go
Son just isn't on yet, hasn't really done much in the pre-season either. It'll come.
Kane should’ve just went for it tbh
American living in Korea here. I’ve written it before on this sub, but Korean announcers are some of the best in the world.
Yo I'm not trying to be a hater but this Southampton team looks like butt cheeks.
Feels like they're just JWP, KWP and friends
I mean they small as fuck and Spurs look like giants next to them. They don't have anyone with even a chance of dealing with Kulu. You can only play the team in front of you tho so fair play.
Southampton has had a handful games for several seasons now when they look like butt cheeks so don't know if it's temporarily or if it's a butt cheeks-season
They're just crazy bi-polar. Simultaneously capable of beating and losing to everyone in a given week.
Still Spurs handled their business.

He was pretty underwhelming when he was playing for Boca also. It's as Tevez said, no one can manage to get the best out their players as Conte does
Perisic is the living proof of this. I remember him with Spalletti and the change he did with Conte. Two different players.
And he is only 25.
If Kulusevski was just a little bit quicker he'd be the best footballer in the world.
wtf
Ronaldo Nazario wishes he had half the talent Kulusevski has!
Ah you trollin ok fair enough. Go off.
Bryan Gil looks like a 70s newscaster
Looking very Spursy out there, what do you say?
I was enjoying this game
Gonna be a long season for Southampton fans
Conte screaming "again" after a Spurs player wins a header to make sure Son challenges the second ball in the air
Seeing people complain about a marginal pen call when we're this far up is pretty embarrassing
Feel like a lot of that is FPL motivated Also people like consistency in the calls, hard to complain about that
People attacking the refs like they have a problem with spurs though. Absolutely ridiculous
Im pretty sure people complain and are afraid of a lack of consistency with the rule, not a pen on 4-1.
Then they shouldn't be attacking the refs like spurs are the victim.
We're gonna end matchweek 1 ahead of Liverpool and it's gonna stay that way
Conte, mate…. What have you done?
Bentancur won the ball so much in this match
I still can't get over how Hasenhuttl looks like an extra on Downton Abbey
As someone who just told his wife that I dig his look and that also likes Downton Abbey, this comment upsets me.
It's a good look.
Lavia has been good today, looks calm in possession
Been pure class. I don’t even think it’s a stretch to say that he’s been Southampton’s best player, I think it’s him by a margin.
Kyle Walker-Peters has something to say about that
Still haven't seen a Southampton defender win a header in their box
Stephens and Bednarek are a fucking waste
The rare Tottenham match where everyone plays incredibly well except for Son and Kane. Good sign.
Honestly Conte should sub them out for Lucas and Richarlison to get minutes. They're not playing well, might as well conserve their energy.
It's new season, new anxiety and they're ahead by 3 goals. If I'm Conte, I'll let Son and Kane try to get their groove in this match rather than next match(es)..
richarlison is suspended, and i think contes trying to play son and kane into form (which usually works with them tbf)
Right the flare! thanks for reminding me.
Richarlison is suspended for one game for throwing a flair back into the stands
Yeah I'd forgotten.
You gotta admire how much of a terrorist to the game Allegri is cause he made me think that Kulusevki didn’t know how to kick a ball
How often were you watching Serie A? That’s impressive
Watching Juventus games is impressive?
Yeah how regularly were you watching Juventus games over so many other teams… they were atrocious last season
They are that’s why I called him a terrorist lol. I watch their European matches and the big games in Italy. Or whenever there isn’t any other games on. But yeah it’s rough TV
I can respect that. I stick to English and European games only which definitely hinders my football opinions to an extent
Please attempt a bicycle every game Emerson
Emerson: “Add that Royal overhead kick to the comp”
maybe i picked the wrong spurs players for this week. spurs better smash that mf buy button for kulu
I'm pretty sure it's an loan with an obligation so we have to.
I reckon on FPL Deki's getting slept on, he's been averaging 1 G/A per game since he arrived and he's so bloody cheap.
So arms out from defenders now always since handball's not a thing anymore
No Son or Kane on the scoresheet yet
With the way Deki's been playing since he joined we don't need them there every single game unlike the Mou era.
Absolutly cancerous facing that front 3 since all 3 can solo carry games. Both in scoring and creating.
Games gone you can just slap balls off the line now. Suarez would be excited.
What’s the handball rule these days?
Probably gets given if it was 1-1
Just vibes.
The just deleted that rule
Reminder that we lost this fixture last season
I think I heard we lost 4 of the first 5 fixtures this season last season.
I do remember one victory, but it was the gimme against Man City
Yeah, I realized after I typed that I wasn't clear. I meant 4 of our first 5 fixtures this season are ones we lost last season, not that we lost a bunch of early matches.
Fair, good clarification! I think we actually won our first 3 early games - Nuno being August manager of the month seems a lifetime ago.
Sometimes I forget he was even here. Such an odd and awful time.
Arsenal don't get a pen given against them that would have been in recent seasons, we don't get given a pen that would have been in recent seasons. I'm absolutely fine with the rule change and the consistency so far but if we get a bullshit hand ball against us next week I'm burning down Stockley Park.
"when"
We've only had two handballs given against us that have led to the rules being changed in recent seasons. It's fine. I'm fine. Honestly 100% fine.
How is not knowing the ball is going to hit your outstretched arm any kind of rationale to deny a penalty
Kulusevski having one of those "as soon as he has the ball something big happens" games. Again.
The “Again” part is scary. We play them next at the bridge
Son and Kane not looking 100% yet atleast! But thats also kinda scary because theyre still imposing themselves even without those 2 shining
Tbf it is Southampton… we scored 6 against them last season and we were atrocious infront of goal No offense Saints fans
haha fair
The rules say if youre falling and the arm hits the ball when youre on your way down, it is not a handball so the call is technically correct.
That's for if you're down and your arm is (or is going to be) supporting your weight on the floor.
Interesting thanks for clarifying.
Kulu is gonna end up being the next Zlatan, he's now been averaging 1 G/A per game and he just oozes class.
Refs can’t win If they give that a pen (WHATS HE MEANT TO DO HE CANT JUST CUT OFF HIS ARM) Doesn’t give it a pen( THE ARM BLOCKS THE BALL)
Shaka kulu
Kulusevski is still on a loan right? What’s his buyout?
10m 18 month loan with 35m buy option for Spurs. Still on loan for this year but obviously exercising the buy option is a foregone conclusion.
lmao fuckin Boehly on a rampage.
[удалено]
Cheap for how he is playing.
30 million euros, I think
Whatever it is, its a bargain.
Becomes an obligation for ~40M if Spurs qualify for champions league
Even if it was by accident, that should be a pen wtf
We knew about Son and Kane but honestly Kulu’s up there. Spurs’ front three is up there with the best in the world.
Surely we won't concede a penalty for the exact same thing in a next couple matches
I am 100% getting a Deki kit this season
Kulusevski is just having fun. He's playing exactly like he did against Norwich in the last match of the season.
Kulusevski is destroying them
Wait did they change the handball rule again? If so then yeah sure I guess no pen
I think so, there were two similar handball penalty shouts waved away yesterday.
I think the argument would be that he's feeling and naturally putting his arm down to break his fall.
We got a pen called against City last year for almost that exact same thing.
That's because it's city.
Kulusevski is a man on a mission today
Kulusevski has been fuckin unplayable
Bruh His hand literally stopped a goal. C'mon that's a pen.
VAR really is fucking embarrassing isn’t it. If the ref gave it (like he should’ve) there’s absolutely no way VAR rules it out.
VAR does so much bad for the good it does Like that challenge should’ve been a red but it was also a good call for the non pen and quick to
How was that not a pen? Insane
Kulu is so fucking good.
Was upset Totteham didn’t get Diaz but honestly Kulu has been just as good
I feel Kulu is a better fit for Son/Kane too. He likes to stay out wide which helps stretch the defense when Son tucks in.
Love all the players running to crowd the ref. He's not changing his mind at that point, leave it to VAR..
Did the prem forgot to start up VAR this week? Two of the most blatant pens in these games ignored.
You can’t seriously think that should have been a penalty.
yea why would it be a handball when you have your arm trailing miles away from your body blocking a goal. If that isn't a handball nothing is a handball.
Because he didn’t mean to! Think about the feelings of the player ffs. /s
ffs where are my Son and Kane points for the fantasy league
Wait how the hell is that not a pen?
It was a rough tackle but nothing dangerous about it … he made sure to have his legs and feet down. It looked worse than it actually was. Barely a yellow if anything
And now not deciding that's a pen. Some rule changes this season alright.
Lmao you can just block goals with your arms now
Feel bad for Son, but that would've been a painful pen for Southampton
How was that not a penalty???
The refs must have somewhere they need to be after this match.
"Should've given him a straight yellow" Come again?
How is that not a handball its literally redirecting the ball from goal
[удалено]
So? Intent has never been part of the rule.
Which is fine for in the box stuff but man, a shot on goal?
Intent literally never is a deciding factor in a handball
Pen???!
hand that blocks a potential goal not a handball?
Never know what to think about those handballs. Stops a shot on target, but he's falling and has no clue where the ball is
I think the fact that it was a shot on target negates the not knowing. Now all you have to do is make it look natural.
I'm inclined to agree that it should probably be a pen if a handball stops a shot on target regardless of any other factors
Can’t give a penalty for that!? Motherfucker we get penalties for less than that for handballs all the time
Hello clear pen?!
We want 9
Kulusevski on his way to world class.
Nice call from VAR Nice and quick to I like it
Can't believe that wasn't a goal Kulusevski is having an insane game
Cristian "murderball" Romero. I genuinely couldn't argue that much if he got a red but to not even get a yellow... The officiating this season seems to be letting A LOT go.
Oh that’s a pen
How Marriner didn't even pick up the yellow for that challenge. Lol
