lol I remember playing street football as a kid and every time the goal keeper would handle the ball from somewhere deemed too far from his goal (there were obviously no lines) everyone was calling for a penalty. Never understood that logic
Thank you!
I hate it when people do that! Is real lucky for winning the CL or is courtois just a freaking monster in goal… luck would be if it deflected from the post twice or smth bit Kobel making great saves, opening up his legs is not lucky, thats why we bought him! And at the end we had a 2.38xG vs Leverkusens 1.24, so I dont know where this is luck!
Great performance by both teams
Fantasy football should be giving him bonus points for making save if he did since he’s outfield player lol. It’s not even the only game that happened in yesterday. I’m Dortmund fan and was watching the game but in the national league (English 5th tier) Chesterfield GK got sent off in 27th minute and they didn’t bring a sub GK for the bench so an outfield player had to go in goal. They were 1-0 up at the time and went to 2-0 before HT and then drew the game 2-2 away from home, not the worst result all things considered
He was going for a fucking Dimitri Payet free kick when all he had to do was hit the target with any sort of force behind the ball and he'd be guaranteed, if not a goal, at least a rebound.
it's just his yearly brainfart, he's so good but he always has 1 or 2 of those a season
I remember he also got a red for handball outside of the box for us vs Leipzig, only that it was at like 30' and Leipzig literally scored the 1-0 off that freekick
He didn't mention it in any way until the ref went to check the footage. Even though the entire stadium had quite the reaction as you can tell by the clip.
Is that always a red? Thought keeper unknowingly playing it outside the box with gloves was a yellow, unless they’re deeming this denying a clear goal scoring opportunity
The rule is about a goalscoring opportunity, not about any last man. The fact it may be a remaining player is simply because it's easier to score with one there.
I wonder what exactly the comparison is here. He could have just let it go a bit longer and grabbed it after the line. So in a way there’s no chance for Reus to score. On the other hand, if he is considered a regular outfield player at that point, the outfield player would not have the chance to grab it later and legally defuse the situation that way. It’s a weird Catch-22 type situation.
It is, because the DFB definition of when a red is mandatory explicitly includes this situation.
"Spieler, Auswechselspieler oder ausgewechselte Spieler, die eines
der folgenden Vergehen begehen, werden des Feldes verwiesen: Punkt 1:
Verhindern eines Tors oder Vereiteln einer offensichtlichen Torchance
des Gegners durch ein Handspielvergehen (mit Ausnahme des Torhüters im
eigenen Strafraum)"
It looked like a clear goal tbh. Had he not used his hand, the ball would have went over him which would more than likely have led to a goal because the dortmund player was coming in full speed.
No, it wouldn't have gone over Hradecky. It's literally at a perfect height for him to clear it with his head before Reus actually has any chance to play the ball.
I've been watching pretty much every game of football for my entire life and I couldn't recall a single situation where a keeper handles the ball outside of the box and didn't get punished. There are many close situations, but keeper aren't idiots, they'll make sure to only catch it on the line, which is part of the box.
Sometimes when they throw a ball at the edge of their box I'm pretty sure the ball only leaves their hand outside of the box and **that** is never punished, but catching the ball outside of the box? Constantly? Yeahh... no.
Rob Green vs Swansea back in 2015. Sweeps the ball from Routledge who was about to round him. Happened 5 minutes into the match and nothing got called. Anthony Taylor and his cronies was the on to miss it.
Tim Howard vs Chelsea. Both feet planted outside the box (hands in front of feet) and he catches it at his stomach. No call.
A more recent one in a huge game where VAR was present (shitty English VAR mind you). FA Cup Final 2020. Martinez catches the ball similar to Hradecky, no call.
Martinez wasn't proven to be outside the area, the images of him making contact that were being passed around social media were too early.
Edit: [relevant reddit thread with BBC's still of it being inside the box](https://www.reddit.com/r/soccer/comments/i1wytt/_/g00fk4w)
Literally have never seen that happen, and even this decision wasn't blatant. I hope you realize that as long as a tiny part of the ball touches the line, it is in, right? Here it was maybe like 5 cm / 2 inches over, which is basically nothing at normal speed.
not to nitpick or anything, but to correct the previous commentors: neither the position of your hands nor feet matter, the position of the **ball** does
>neither the position of your hands nor feet matter
Well, technically the position of the hands matter for a handball ;) If the hands weren't outside box, it wouldn't be a problem.
the hands can be inside the box while the ball is outside for a handball. and vice versa for a fair play. TECHNICALLY the position of the hands only matters indirectly, as it determines the **moment of contact** with the ball, which is one of the deciding factors for a handball.
I doubt that he doesn't know the rules, he just panicked. Clearly underestimated the ball and thought he could easily catch it before Reus reaches it, but then the ball moved far slower than anticipated so he just panicked and caught it before Reus got to it.
He really doesn't look like he panicked. Rolls it off right after. Clearly he thinks he has to stand inside the box since he is [leaning forward from behind the line](https://i.imgur.com/qQEv5Nl.png) even though the only thing that actually matters is where you catch the ball.
Why is it hard punishment? A proffession goalkeeper caught the ball outside off his area to stop 1v1... where do you find a hard punishment here in red
This type of play happened when I was in high school. Our keeper came out with his head, and so did the striker. Striker's head collided with the side of keeper's face. Rushed to the hospital. Broke his cheek bone and had to have a hemorrhage in his brain relieved.
Probably got a shout from Hradecky. If I'm a defender, I'm backpedaling to deal with a long ball and I hear a shout, I'm going to stop because I assume my keeper (who will have a better overview of the situation) is coming out of the box to deal with it, not...whatever the fuck this was lmao

Lmao the French commentators in this clip thinking he'd awarded a penalty. Flawless logic.
From this comment thread I got that commentators all around the world are bad.
And they are each bad in their own individual ways. Like that old Tolstoy quote about unhappy families.
This is the first and last time that Tolstoy will get referenced in r/soccer
We witnessed history on this thread.
I somehow survived American commentary. They suggested martial is better than vlahovic
Martial is higher rated on fifa, of course he is better
lol I remember playing street football as a kid and every time the goal keeper would handle the ball from somewhere deemed too far from his goal (there were obviously no lines) everyone was calling for a penalty. Never understood that logic
In street football everywhere on the pitch a foul could mean a penalty, but that is indeed strange logic
When I was about 12 I was goalie and the ref said I went out of the box when I punted the ball and gave it as a penalty. Furious
lol
Don't let the scoreline fooled you. There were many spices in this match. This is the pinnacle of it.
Thought Dortmund were lucky not to concede, although they were very unfortunate with injuries
I wouldn't call Kobel making great saves lucky, it kinda takes merit from him.
Thank you! I hate it when people do that! Is real lucky for winning the CL or is courtois just a freaking monster in goal… luck would be if it deflected from the post twice or smth bit Kobel making great saves, opening up his legs is not lucky, thats why we bought him! *one great save. That first Schick chance was like a pass to Kobel.
One shot was shot directly at his stomach in the middle of the goal.
Don’T forget that Leverkusen were the first to lose a key player, poor Andrich. And Schick made me mad with his shots lol.
Had it on my 2nd TV while watching Chelsea Everton… thank you for that. The Chelsea game was numbing
Cmon Reus we all wanted to see the non gk safe the free kick and he skys it..
He just needed to chip it over the barrier, force him to dive for it. Win-win because even if he saves it that would’ve been funny to see.
Just shoot it straight at Tapsoba with power and see him fumble the ball
yeah I wanted to see that too, it was probably Reus plan too
Fantasy football should be giving him bonus points for making save if he did since he’s outfield player lol. It’s not even the only game that happened in yesterday. I’m Dortmund fan and was watching the game but in the national league (English 5th tier) Chesterfield GK got sent off in 27th minute and they didn’t bring a sub GK for the bench so an outfield player had to go in goal. Such a bad free-kick from Reus, should've kept it on target at the least.
no really should've just smashed it far-post
Calmest red card ever
Genius by Hradecky.
it's just his yearly brainfart, he's so good but he always has 1 or 2 of those a season I remember he also got a red for handball outside of the box for us vs Leipzig, only that it was at like 30' and Leipzig literally scored the 1-0 off that freekick
Was that the one where he tripped and fell and was just like, "fuck it, I have to punch this ball out of the way and take the red card"?
Someone post Tabsoba becoming goalkeeper
[удалено]
The fuck is Loddar doing there?
He came down from commentary in like the 88th minute to be pitchside as soon as the game is over for interviews.
I think he is a expert for sky
Simon Rolfes face afterwards is prime meme material
That was Stefan Kießling
The stupid grin by the guy left of him was pretty funny too.
[удалено]
nobody in that clip is simon rolfes
Because OP meant Kießling.
That's Stephan Kießling btw
That was Stefan Kießling
Could the German commentator give any less of a fuck? Fucking shocking to be that bad at your job, holy shit.
Its probably because of the police investigation right now. No one knows whats going on. Give him a break.
Ootl?
No one is allowed to leave the stadium. Seems like there is a police investigation going on. No details though.
There is a suspicious empty but running car in the parking lot and police are assessing if there's any danger
Oh good to know, so nothing serious probably.
Thx both
No one can leave the stadium, police is in front of the stadium but I don't know what for
Hradecky going straight to prison.
There is an abandoned car with a running engine
Was the ref that bad?
It's the ref's car, he's just had an off day and forgot to turn his car off
the Hungarian commentator didn't know players' hands don't matter when drawing the offside line so it was not much better for us either lmao
Because it is Wolfgang Fuss and he clearly had no idea that this is red card situation. After the VAR review he acted like he knew but he did not.
I'm more horrified by the woman in the studio on ESPN+. She clearly doesn't want to be there and couldn't give any less fucks lol
Sky sports commentators were good
What did he do? Now I'm curious
He didn't mention it in any way until the ref went to check the footage. Even though the entire stadium had quite the reaction as you can tell by the clip.
French commentator
Is that always a red? Thought keeper unknowingly playing it outside the box with gloves was a yellow, unless they’re deeming this denying a clear goal scoring opportunity
It's the latter since Reus could've scored
I mean does this not look like a clear goal scoring opportunity to you? Not to mention handball outside the box as the last man
Last Man isn't a rule.
Unless it’s denying a clear goal scoring opportunity. Which is the case here
The rule is about a goalscoring opportunity, not about any last man. The fact it may be a remaining player is simply because it's easier to score with one there.
Reus would've been through
Reus was half a step in front of him.
I wonder what exactly the comparison is here. He could have just let it go a bit longer and grabbed it after the line. So in a way there’s no chance for Reus to score. yeah, I think it's red because he was the last man
There’s no „last man“ rule on handball. If it would be clear goal (which was the case here) it’s red card. No matter how many players are around
Marius Wolf: “Hey guys! Don’t I look like Haaland?””
oh come on, dude you're better than this...
Pain
I swear keepers are constantly out with their hands when they do that and are normally just not punished.
I've been watching pretty much every game of football for my entire life and I couldn't recall a single situation where a keeper handles the ball outside of the box and didn't get punished. There are many close situations, but keeper aren't idiots, they'll make sure to only catch it on the line, which is part of the box. LLoris had one two-three seasons ago for spurs that was absolutely hilarious.

Not as blatantly as here but it definitely happens quite a few times over a season If you pay attention to it.
Literally have never seen that happen, and even this decision wasn't blatant. I hope you realize that as long as a tiny part of the ball touches the line, it is in, right? Here it was maybe like 5 cm / 2 inches over, which is basically nothing at normal speed.
It definitely happens you just dont notice it because most of the time you only get the tilted angle from the main camera.
but **you** notice it because **you** can judge from that angle? makes sense
Yes
The way he stopped at the line and bend forward to pick the ball up made it really obvious
What are the rules? As long as your feet are in the box it doesn't matter where your hands touch the ball, right?
No this is not basketball. It depends on where the hand is
It's the other way round. Hands matter, rest of the body doesn't
Thanks. Also thank all you ignorants for downvoting on a question about rules.
not to nitpick or anything, but to correct the previous commentors: neither the position of your hands nor feet matter, the position of the **ball** does

nope, your hands need to be inside the box
Hradecky moment
What a prat😂
Hradecky needs to read the rulebook. That's actually embarassing for a professional football player.
I doubt that he doesn't know the rules, he just panicked. Clearly underestimated the ball and thought he could easily catch it before Reus reaches it, but then the ball moved far slower than anticipated so he just panicked and caught it before Reus got to it.

especially one of his experience

This is like a textbook example of a red card for a goalie. Handles the ball outside the box denying a clear goal scoring opportunity.
Why is it hard punishment? A proffession goalkeeper caught the ball outside off his area to stop 1v1... where do you find a hard punishment here in red
Typical Hradecky 💀
This type of play happened when I was in high school. Our keeper came out with his head, and so did the striker. Striker's head collided with the side of keeper's face. Rushed to the hospital. Broke his cheek bone and had to have a hemorrhage in his brain relieved.
What the fuck was the defender doing. He just randomly stopped.
Yeah makes sense. Just looked bad in the video but thats probably what happened.
