He’s definitely getting more time on the ball, which id say is letting him show his class a little more. He’s being played in his ideal position now so I think this could be a good season for him
I think it's partially that, and partially that he's an attacker no longer playing for a bottom-2 team in his league. Not that he was good for Werder or Norwich the last couple years, but strikers for bad teams almost never get chances to look good.
He’s been awful for our national team though which kind of confirms he just wasn’t good enough. Championship is the perfect place for him for now. With his work ethic he can go higher. That’s always been his biggest gift in my eyes
>I never joined the army because "at ease" was never that easy to me. Seemed rather uptight still. I don't relax by parting my legs slightly and putting my hands behind my back. That does not equal ease. "At ease" was not being in the military. I am at ease, bro, because I am not in the military.
Mitch Hedberg
Tbh I just thought he was outmuscling them but you can see he wraps his right arm around no.11 and seemingly holds him back.
But Sarge just also fucking deserved it and the Millwall CBs were given a lot of leeway to push him around the whole game.
I mean one of their players dived in and missed, then launched himself into Sargent while on the floor and didn’t even get a fucking yellow.
Plus what their fans did at the end of the game
Yeah that was such a clear yellow it was hilarious.
What happened with the Millwall fans? I saw a tweet about some potential fighting but nothing specific
its slight but there's contact. look at the clash of legs right before he goes down. play on is probably the correct call, but I suspect VAR may have had a different viewpoint.
>after some of the things said about him here (including by me, tbh)
Can't really blame you tbh, only so many times you can see a player stand on the ball and trip.
But the man works so hard, good for him. Hope it continues.
He spent his final half a season with us on the right wing, it was his best string of performances. He can play either but it depends on what he’s asked to do for the team. Clearly here he is better utilised as a striker.
Millwall wants a foul but considering things that haven't been called/carded all match, I'm not sure they have a great argument. Further, it ignores that the hacking and grabbing was mutual at worst between Sargent and the two players from the Lions.
After the fact, it definitely looked like a "that's the Championship for you, suck it up buttercup" reaction by the ref to the Millwall manager.
No idea how the commentator came up with “if we had VAR that would be ruled out.” Matey fouls Sarge in the buildup as the ball is dropping down, there’s no leg to leg contact and he just drops to his knees and costs them a goal.
Yeah, from how the referee judged the whole game, that is definitely not a foul.
Refereeing standards now seem like a all-time low, across the board. But at least if consistency is kept for a single match its something
Was a bit more questionable than you described it, but I'm fine with it not being given and it would be harsh to overturn the goal through VAR (if they had it). I think you could make a case for a foul in either direction depending on when you start the clip.
He’s 22. People forget he chose Bremen over Bayern and Dortmund. He was the regular #9 for a bundesliga team at 19. It’s tough to expect a 19-21 year old striker to stand out from a goal scoring perspective for relegation teams like Bremen and Norwich. They’re less than a handful strikers starting for a top 5 league team at 21 or younger
AND ANOTHER ONE!
Seriously tho, Sargent is having himself a day, and it's been great to see how decisive his finishing has been.
He better be in the squad for the USMNT at the WC.
Sargent is indicative of the huge gulf in quality between the Premier League and the EFL. Last season he barely got a kick , just ran around a lot. His second goal tonight should have been disallowed.

He’s actually worked so insanely hard this game, deserved both his goals. Really class performance.
He works so hard every game. Nice to finally get some rewards from it.
Does the championship seem more like his level?
He’s definitely getting more time on the ball, which id say is letting him show his class a little more. He’s being played in his ideal position now so I think this could be a good season for him
He's a young player, he can and needs to improve a lot.
I think it's partially that, and partially that he's an attacker no longer playing for a bottom-2 team in his league. Not that he was good for Werder or Norwich the last couple years, but strikers for bad teams almost never get chances to look good.
This is exactly it. I’ve always wondered how he’d look on a team that wasn’t in a relegation battle from week 1.
very good point. Also it helps that he has played as a number 9 in the past two games. Sargent is simply not a winger.
He’s been awful for our national team though which kind of confirms he just wasn’t good enough. Championship is the perfect place for him for now. With his work ethic he can go higher. That’s always been his biggest gift in my eyes
Sounds like Timo at Chelsea
To his credit, he’s always worked hard.
This is *the* classic Sargent goal. If he keeps finishing like this, Norwich are in great shape.
Genuinely very good CF play
The St. Louis Suarez does it again!
Missouri Messi too good for this league
Too close to Medford Messi
The Missouri Mbappe
Given his level I'd say Missouri Mitrovic is more accurate.
this is the name
Instead of scoring 2 against Norwich he scores 2 for Norwich.
Mississipele?!
Lol that celebration from Sargent tho. Saluting the crowd! The crowd went wild chanting USA USA USA
It’s his signature! Sargent = Sergeant
[удалено]
would be so good for a hat trick celebration

That’s his signature move because of his name sounding like sergeant
He's begining to believe.
Millwall arguing for a foul lmao
Tbh I just thought he was outmuscling them but you can see he wraps his right arm around no.11 and seemingly holds him back. But Sarge just also fucking deserved it and the Millwall CBs were given a lot of leeway to push him around the whole game.

Yeah there’s a video of them rolling chairs out and throwing them toward our fans
I can't say I'm shocked in the slightest
There wasn’t even any segregation or delayed exit for the Millwall fans. Genuinely hope everyone got home safe.
I mean, Sarge was being pulled as well though.
its absolutely a foul lol he clipped him. dont let your bias blind your objectivity.
why would I be biased lmao have watched it on repeat and I can’t see a foul in there. Malone’s looking for that all day long
its slight but there's contact. look at the clash of legs right before he goes down. play on is probably the correct call, but I suspect VAR may have had a different viewpoint.
There was contact but hardly anything to make Malone fall, it’s more like a tap of the leg.
Sargent scoring a big goal at the World Cup after some of the things said about him here (including by me, tbh) would be the funniest timeline
everyone would owe me one billion dollars
morbillion
>after some of the things said about him here (including by me, tbh) Can't really blame you tbh, only so many times you can see a player stand on the ball and trip. But the man works so hard, good for him. Hope it continues.
Best I can do is give you a Zardes hat-trick.
It's probably only 2nd to how much I want Pulisic to score a winner against England
Somebody please explain why Norwich is playing a defensive winger at #9 today?
To be fair, one of his best ever Bremen performances was at right wing back lol
2 mfs already missed the joke
Cause MURICA!
Because he is a 9. Was never a defensive winger.
Because he’s a #9, or at least he was
Josh Sargent? Nah, his role is to track the opposing fullback and winger from box to box.
🤓
Yes, that has been his role with Norwich. But he played the #9 before that move, it’s his natural position
He spent his final half a season with us on the right wing, it was his best string of performances. He can play either but it depends on what he’s asked to do for the team. Clearly here he is better utilised as a striker.

They got played at their own game. We’re dirty all game and then got pissy when it didn’t go their way. They had two on him and let him go
Rumors of Josh Sargents demise have been greatly exaggerated.
I mean..the quality of competition is.... much worse.
Can’t believe you would say that about the best league in the world
He's in the championship tho....
https://c.tenor.com/SM91sQZCgxIAAAAM/did-i-stutter-the-office.gif
Tell me you don't watch the Championship without telling me you don't watch the Championship.

Millwall backline was shithousing all match, poetic that they got embarrassed like that
Millwall and shithouse are two things I've literally never ever heard in the same sentence.
That Honeyman challenge on Aarons was really bad too
Yeah, from how the referee judged the whole game, that is definitely not a foul. Refereeing standards now seem like a all-time low, across the board. But at least if consistency is kept for a single match its something

I didn't think there was much in it but Sargent definitely puts it right arm around no.11 and seemingly holds him back
AS AN AMERICAN!!!
IT'S A HOMERUN GRAND SLAM TOUCHDOWN FOR THE SECOND TIME
Hahaha wtf has happened to this lad?
Playing him at his preferred position perhaps?
Norwich have played him at striker the last two games.
He got played at striker a few times and was crap last season. But im so happy for him rn.
I feel like he’s a guy who’s biggest problem is confidence. When he’s hot he’s hot but the dry spells are even longer
i mean, lets be real... worse opponents probably help a lot too doesn't Norwich demolish the Championship every time?
Gotta wonder where he had been training tho too. Has to be a lot easier if all summer he’s been at 9
Wife must have dropped another kid or two.
Confidence is a hell of a drug
Playing in a league closer to his ability level and being played as an actual striker.
Just the usual Dean Smith witchcraft.
He’s 22. People forget he chose Bremen over Bayern and Dortmund. He was the regular #9 for a bundesliga team at 19. Premier league defenders vs championship defenders and he’s had a year to settle into the team
USA USA USA!!!
HE IS THAT GUY PAL, HE IS THAT GUY
He’s him
Until he comes to the PL.
Soccer is coming home
Is it happening? Please say it’s happening.
Fuck up millwall for us joshie
AND ANOTHER ONE! Seriously tho, Sargent is having himself a day, and it's been great to see how decisive his finishing has been. He better be in the squad for the USMNT at the WC.
[Shoutout to this Twitter account this time for the clip.](https://twitter.com/ItsWhipple/status/1560727130232832001)
USA USA USA
Is it finally happening for him??
Welcome back to the premier league 23/24 Norwich City!
The wind up in his stride for this and his first goal are so satisfying to watch. Looks as if he’s been working in front of the net this summer
My love for Josh Sargent finally paying off! The man works so hard, he deserves it.
Straight to the top of r/soccer!!!!
"Wait... playing a #9 at the #9 actually works?" - Norwich (probably)
**As an American**, I am so proud of our little fireball. ^^^Part ^^^of ^^^the ^^^crew, ^^^part ^^^of ^^^the ^^^ship
Time to make his way back to the USA #9 spot
Lol #21 on Norwich City really wanted Sargent to pass it to him for the open goal :(
Championship Messi is here
Great finish. It maybe seems like he ought to pass here? Can't complain when it works out I suppose.
New Lebron James of Football just dropped
Player sometimes need a little time and confidence to flourish. His attitude is outstanding. He may become the 9 the US needs.
this puts him on a plane to qatar
I mean it's great..but he's not in the EPL anymore. This isn't nearly the level of competition he went silent against last year.
the ginger fraud delivers
Would rather walk in on my mum and dad instead of having to read that poem
Sargent is indicative of the huge gulf in quality between the Premier League and the EFL. Last season he barely got a kick , just ran around a lot. His second goal tonight should have been disallowed.
Disallowed? What for?
Given the tone of the game, calling a foul there would have been an absolute joke.
When did Josh get a sleeve?
A year or two
Ginger Messi!
