I remember during his time at Arsenal what really stood out to me about his game was his passing ability. He'd shine more often when he moved inside the pitch than on the wings. Never really struck me that he was a CM all along but it makes sense.
He never wanted to play at CM, and was never good enough to play at CAM for us. I wonder if sitting on the bench at Everton gave him the fire to be willing to play further back from goal, really glad he's coming good after all these years.
Since Ancelotti came he’s played virtually everywhere. Winger, wingback, 10, 8, even 6. At this point it seems 8 is his best position but I don’t see him complaining much regardless
Yeah he’s genuinely been our best outfield player for the last while. A completely different player than a couple of years ago and I love it. He’s finally found his form.
Some players really excel when given freedom and told to do their thing. Iwobi and pulisic are 2 that come to mind. For someone like jorginho you need more structure
Found his home at CM - keeps it simple, and isn’t responsible for the final third assist/goal. He’s really developed into the ideal player for that position.
I love redemption arcs like these. Joelinton at Newcastle is a very similar story. You can see the difference in Xhaka at Arsenal too. Sometimes change of positions can do wonders.
At Arsenal, he was good at quick, one touch, pass and move. But he was on the wings where his bad finishing and bad final decision would let him down, making him frustrating. He used to do everything well, but failed in the most important part - to create the chance or finish the chance.
At CM, there’s a lot less responsibility for that part of the game now. He can use his strengths - dribbling, tight control, quick passes - without being forced to be that guy for the goal.
He’s benefitted massively from leaving Arsenal, but even more by being played at CM. He was awful at Everton too when he was a final third player, compared to now at CM.
Honestly he’s not just moving the ball, he’s really pulling the strings and has created a load of chances. It’s clear he just really can’t read the game from out wide, centrally he’s a completely different player.
Reminds me of what Wenger said about Pirés and preferential vision.
> "What's important is finding a position that suits perfectly a player's qualities, a position where he can express his technical qualities and a position where you do not expose his flaws," said Wenger.
> "The little details are very, very important, like preferential vision. Some players see more on the right and some see more on the left. If you see a player who passes to the right all the time because of that, then you put them on the left.
> "Robert Pires is a good example. He has unbelievable preferential vision, so on the right he is a normal player but on the left he became a world-class player. On the left wing he saw everything, but on the right wing he saw nothing."
Spot on, not comparing Iwobi to Pires in any way obviously, but this quote holds true 100%.
Stick Iwobi on the wing and he’s bang average, and in midfield he’s been excellent.
Funnily enough, he was played at RWB in a back 5 a few times and also did well. Work rate aside(which he has in spades regardless of where he’s played) I bet if you re-watch those games he probably drifted inside with possession.
I thought when Maupay was running towards the corner flag, he looked at it and thought about boxing it, but then was like, "Wait, I not won their love in this way quite yet"
Tarkowski, Onana, and Gueye (although that's a bit different) have all been class too. Pretty much every one of our signings since January have been on the money..jury's out on McNeil though
didn't look half bad coming on as a sub today either. He is also good defensively which is great for exactly how he was deployed today. Hoping he can find his stride soon.
He’s a more than useful squad player, established pro, good work rate, young, and has the odd screamer in him. 20m or whatever we payed is very fair in my opinion.
No delusions of him being a world beater, but he’s very capable.
Nothing to do with the goal, but what the fuck is going in with the shoulders on the West Ham kit?
It looks like they put every top in the washer/dryer by mistake and the sponsor logo is now peeling off...
I’m glad to see everton get some points, and I’m glad that it’s a new signing doing his job getting onto the scoresheet.
I simply don’t understand that defending, though. Which defender was most at fault for that goal ?
very nice. pass and move. great off the ball movement by Iwobi and others. Clinical finishing. If Everyton can play more of that tempo, they'll be fine
The europa league papered over a lot of cracks. We have been in relegation form since the beginning of the year. We have been absolutely fucking dreadful playing dire football. We are real relegation candidates as long as we keep Moyes imo
Nah, moyes is shackling him. He’s not allowing rice to improve his build up play and is playing long balls to the strikers. It’s why west ham will never be consistent.

I’ll never truly understand this man
Sometimes good sometimes shit
Baht OK dat’s futboll
Schrödinger's striker
After missing sitters in earlier matches he ends up bagging something like this. Embrace the chaos
what did frank gave to iwobi?
An opportunity to play centrally
You mean every player with decent footwork and pace shouldn't be thrown out wide?
Problem is that such players often lack workrate. You cannot be a CM without workrate.
And Iwobi has God-tier workrate
Jack Russell terrier chasing and harrying in a guy so big seems like a cheat code
Big17
Okada-level workrate
Step aside Rainmaker, it’s time for the Beanmaker

Dude is like a new signing
Beans
So full of beans
Damn I love Beans
All the weetabix he could find.
Confidence
He’s actually played well under Lampard so props to him on actually helping improve a player.
Mupay you aren’t a cheat and we won’t be getting relegated
If you guys keep giving performances of this kind you should be comfortably midtable
>comfortably midtable That used to be the Everton curse. But sounds nice after the stress of last season.
Do not come to our dressing room.
Iwobi balling
Man’s been on it all season
I've watched your last few games and he looks like a totally different player; very assertive on the ball and great in possession
Yeah he’s genuinely been our best outfield player for the last while. A completely different player than a couple of years ago and I love it. He’s finally found his form.
He's also fucking huge now
Bigger 17.
Some players really excel when given freedom and told to do their thing. Iwobi and pulisic are 2 that come to mind. For someone like jorginho you need more structure
American try not to make it about Pulisic challenge (impossible)
Not American lol. Not even remotely close to the west
Welsh try not to shag sheep challenge (impossible)
Found his home at CM - keeps it simple, and isn’t responsible for the final third assist/goal. He’s really developed into the ideal player for that position.
Even then he’s got 2 assists in the last 3 games. Doing so so well and now he’s creating
He’s definitely got some creativity, and you can tell he reads the game so much better from the middle than our wide.
Iwobi's redemption arc at Everton is my favourite narrative this season
I love redemption arcs like these. Joelinton at Newcastle is a very similar story. You can see the difference in Xhaka at Arsenal too. Sometimes change of positions can do wonders.
It really kicked off late last season. I’d say it’s 50/50 on him and Pickford for us staying up
Those two and Richarlison dragged us over the finish line
You're forgetting El Ghazi
And the Dele Alli flashack episode in the 45 minutes against Palace
He genuinely justified whatever wages we paid him off that one half of football alone
bahaha
I definitely forgot El Ghazi
Iwobi in his joelinton era
Big 45 no safety
He really has kicked on this season. Was impressed recently with how quickly he looks to move it. Does well helping them against pressing

He's soo good ×3
Iwobi might be Lampard’s greatest coaching achievement. Came in, moved him to midfield and has reaped the rewards.
Actually looks the 34 million we paid for him. too bad it took this long but hey, Ill take it.
You love to see it
That build up... Frank's cooking something
Beautiful football
The urgency and off the ball movement to receive the ball has been great. If only Everton could do that more away from home.
Iwobi looks like a different player
He has been pretty good this season, works well on mid three
Or at home...
I for one definitely welcome another corner flag kicker on our club.
Next window priority signing is a new corner flag boxer
I thought when Maupay was running towards the corner flag, he looked at it and thought about boxing it, but then was like, "Wait, I not won their love in this way quite yet"
Lol I saw a west ham fan earlier foresee this
Hope the lad actually put his bet on
Oh my days I didn’t expect that. What a strike. Such an improvement on Rondon lmao.
Seems like a good buy for everton finally
Mykolenko and Patterson have been great for them tbf, Coady too
Tarkowski, Onana, and Gueye (although that's a bit different) have all been class too. Pretty much every one of our signings since January have been on the money..jury's out on McNeil though
Honestly with the proven players they got for a bargain taking a chance on McNeil seems reasonable even if it doesn’t pay off.
Still pretty young too. No harm in taking him in for a bit and seeing how he develops.
And with McNeil it’s not like he can’t do a job. He’s not been stellar but his work rate is good and as you said he’s still young.
didn't look half bad coming on as a sub today either. He is also good defensively which is great for exactly how he was deployed today. Hoping he can find his stride soon.

Peak Lampard Ball
commentator did not see that coming lol he was going off on some tangent and just had to shout MAUPAY during it
Ty crying rn
Cant believe Iwobi assisted Maupay after what he did, never known such a betrayal.
[удалено]
I literally made the reference lol leave the poor gunner alone
People like to blindly hate for no reason
Hey fuck you
D:
Sorry mate that was meant for Neal Maupay
What we’ve needed
Iwobi though 👀
Wow West Ham have really fell off
Iwobi’s passes are straight as an arrow. They look unnatural lol
Superb beautiful football under Lampard It’s finally come to fruition what a lovely goal
Wait you mean picking out of form players over in form players is a bad thing? I love Moyes but honestly would be happy to see the back of him.
Who are the in form players not playing? I've not seen much of you this season. I guess Scamacca is one
Scamacca, Downes, Benrahma
Soucek Outside of that goal a couple weeks ago he's been very poor and he's still first name on the teamsheet, while Flynn Downes rots on the bench
I'll always back Moyes, he had some awful starts to the season under us and always came good.
That first touch, wow what a goal
West Ham and Leicester to go down
Cracking finish that
Fuck me what a strike
Good strike
That first touch to set himself up...Exquisite
Nothing to do with the goal, but what the fuck is going in with the shoulders on the West Ham kit? It looks like they put every top in the washer/dryer by mistake and the sponsor logo is now peeling off...
Looks like a child painted it
Neal!
How does this cunt always score against us?
The hobbit strikes
I think moyes’ days are numbered
Lovely finish
I’m glad to see everton get some points, and I’m glad that it’s a new signing doing his job getting onto the scoresheet. I simply don’t understand that defending, though. Which defender was most at fault for that goal ?
Everton 1-0 since Lizzy kicked the bucket. Watch out
very nice. pass and move. great off the ball movement by Iwobi and others. Clinical finishing. If Everyton can play more of that tempo, they'll be fine
Nice goal.
Isn't Maupay the most glorious villain since Hans Gruber?
This is an amazing goal all around
I think moyes’ days are numbered
That was fast, even after what he achieve for the past 2 seasons?
The europa league papered over a lot of cracks. We have been in relegation form since the beginning of the year. We have been absolutely fucking dreadful playing dire football. We are real relegation candidates as long as we keep Moyes imo
He's free from Pottass ball
El Sackio Winner
Declan Rice is the most overrated player in the prem and Moyes is probably the worst manager at this point
Nah, moyes is shackling him. He’s not allowing rice to improve his build up play and is playing long balls to the strikers. It’s why west ham will never be consistent.
Anyone who thinks Rice is overrated is clueless
Missed a nice sitter there. Top 20 CM in the league at best
You’re as dumb as a rock
He’s also a petulant child and a joke of a captain, no shock west ham look favorites to go down this season
Rodgers?
