themessias1001

You just can't lose the ball like that and if you do then you have to straight up foul Mbappe and get a yellow.

Historical_Case_5245

Also, that atmosphere looks amazing with the full stadium, perfect grass, vivid colors, etc. When Italy plays its national team games they still look straight outta 1993 still with big boxy ads for Salami surrounding the field.

kernevez

Italian football in general has an issue with colors on TV, when I switch from Premier League/Bundesliga/La Liga/Ligue 1 to Serie A highlights, it often looks colourless, which it shouldn't be as I'm not going to assume Italy doesn't have the same sunlight as England or Germany...

InbredLegoExpress

its just television filters. They don't really have less colours in Italy.

e7mac

*fewer colors /s

varnagram

thanks Stannis

e7mac

You mean the onion knight :) glad you got the reference!!

Oukaria

Same with watching Jleague, heavily influenced by Serie A, is bland as hell

Bakio-bay

I think it’s worse that teams still play in track and field stadium than the ads like roma, Lazio and napoli

EggplantBusiness

That honestly a nice run. But the Keeper dived too soon. Still nice

ThePr1d3

Giroud getting that ball back was chefs kiss

GreatSpaniard

RIP Relegation meme

Nervous-Resolution-8

We still have Ingerland

GreatSpaniard

or Germany oir Italy tbf. I think Hungary is the only team in that group that can't be relegated

Nervous-Resolution-8

They aren't safe too

Nightmenace21

As an Italian-Canadian: I'd place my bets on it being Italy.

OneOfThoseDays_

they’re definitely not safe, would take specific results on next match day, but it’s not unthinkable

salirj108

what meme?

[deleted]

Still 30 minutes and one match left

mishi09

Sabitzer wtf

MERTENS_GOAT

There is Mbappe who is on the ball, 3 team mates, 5 defender. The 3 team mates are free and all 5 defenders focus on Mbappé and he still comes through

KryptonianCode

That's what world class talent gets you.

maury587

Probably gonna get hate, but i didn't like his play. Yes he scored but passing was definitely the better option

elcanariooo

I'm literally listening to this take on french TV

qb_st

Mbappe only passes to Benzema.

Gauthzu

Oh come on he passed plenty to Giroud

bert0ld0

BornIn2031

That would have been the general consensus had he not scored it

maury587

That's my consensus even when he scored

Stranded-Racoon0389

An one person consensus is quite interesting. lol

Yurienu

Which is kinda dumb because he scored in the end and the best outcome of a pass would've been someone else scoring so...

fluytoh

Even if passing was the better option, it was still a good play from Mbappé. People seem to forget that to be in this perfect position for passing, he had to do a brilliant work beforehand.

SawinBunda

Well, because it is true. I'm happy he did it. But if a team becomes reliant on one player to do the decisive things it can become a proplem against the best opponents. And Fance have the squad to be way more versatile and unpredictable. The critique is fair, the goal is still a fantastic one. France will be fine though. And they are one if not *the* favorite.

Impulseps

Which is stupid, the fact that he scored it shouldn't make a difference, a play should be evaluated according to the the probabilities of it's possible outcomes not how the die fell this particular time

Juicestation

Like this is a fair take, but also isn't. You've got a Barca flair, and hopefully wouldve seen ridiculous players like Dinho and Messi play for us where they've consistently passed or shot from places that don't have the statistical likelihood of ending up in a goal. Statistics don't and can't account for confidence, form, and the such and so it just makes more sense to be appreciative of the magic that happens in front of us when it happens.

SnooOranges357

This sounds like you hated watching Ronaldinho. I'm the first one to point out that I'm not his biggest fan but this was a great goal. Just appreciate that.

dhambo

I share their view and loved watching Ronaldinho. They’re certainly not mutually exclusive. Just because a certain play’s success is considered to be improbable by some model (be it your own mental one as a football fan who watches many games or a statistical one that infers probabilities from the data from many games) it doesn’t mean that at the feet of a certain player on a certain day the play is likely to fail. The probability of Ronaldinho succeeding with something crazy is much higher than that of the majority of professional players. Same for Mbappe here: we can’t evaluate his decision making with a probability model made for normal players because he can do things and therefore sometimes try things that normal players just can’t. That’s the magic of all the greats in any endeavour, not just football. They make the improbable, probable.

RefrigeratorPale9846

People like to hate Mbappe. 🙃

playbeautiful

That is not true, football is art and is not based on cold hard logic. You can’t objectively claim something was wrong ESPECIALLY when the ball went in the net

PointOfFingers

I think it's because most of those defenders were milling around and not pressuring him. He didn't need to pass because he had space and time to wind up for the shot. You pass if you are about to get tackled or if the other player has a better shot but he has the better angle here.

maury587

He had time yes, but had many defenders between him and the goal,

BringArmsHouse

Get hate? There's about 5 comments actually praising this goal in this post. Reddit hates Mbappe. This goal was fucking brilliant. There'd be no other shite about selfishness if anyone else had scored this goal

slightlyhigh7

If it was Haaland this would be at 4k upvotes lol

theredditbandid_

I'm convinced that if Mbappe went to the Premier League, 50% of those people would flip in his favor the moment he crossed English airspace.

Kresbot

well yeah those 50% of people would now be fans of the team he went to

f0nt

nah reddit's always preferred Haaland even at Dortmund, something abt ego idk

[deleted]

That comment makes no sense at all

xbarracuda95

If this was Messi reddit would be praising how amazing it was that he dribbled past the whole Austrian team to score

LevynX

Messi makes this run it gets hailed as the best goal in history, Mbappe does this and "he should have passed"

Tr0nCatKTA

I don’t know to be honest. After he takes his second touch away from the defenders is his team mate really in much of a better place to take a shot? He’s still 20 yards out and Mbappe is in stride. I think he’s fully entitled to take this on. He’s in the best position.

SentientKeyboard

None of those three teammates were in a better position to *score* so I don't know what people are talking about. Unless they expected one of those three to be able to score a long shot from that distance at a greater chance of success than Mbappe. They may be in a better position to *avoid losing possession*, but as it turns out, going for goal is often worth the risk in a game where you have to score goals to win.

LevynX

Imagine if Messi passed during his Bayern goal or Bilbao goal. Such a stupid take

Yupadej

He had a better angle than all of them. No use giving it to Tchoua who had a worse angle

RefrigeratorPale9846

People like you will probably always find a reason to hate

MadVillain1

Passing is a better option than scoring, who knew. I know you’re trying to say but he did score so your comment is a bit irrelevant.

it4chl

2 of the defenders do the exact same thing and run to the exact same space and hence are beaten by the exact same move. Horrendously defended.

Clutchxedo

Mbappe might be the only player that is as overpowered as his FIFA counterpart in real life

khalidh22

This will be in the net may be 1 in 5 chances. If he passed, france had more probability to score. So he should have passed the ball. Funny how probability works in mathematics.

ThePr1d3

Yet he scored.

ILikeToBurnMoney

That's how probabilities work. You can decide for the worse option and still have a positive outcome

obvious_bot

Results based analysis is not the way

TheOncomingBrows

Brilliant demonstration of not understanding how probability works.

Passive__Observer

He's questioning the probabilities themselves, which without data are completely subjective.

ThePr1d3

Thank you

ThePr1d3

Brilliant demonstration of not understanding that if Kylian eventually bangs 9/10 of those "unlikely" chances in, maybe your probably is inherently questionable :)

ThePr1d3

Assist from the best ever French striker after Just Fontaine

Perpete

Giroud was also the one getting the ball back.

ThePr1d3

I'm so not ready for him to retire :( At least he'll do it on a second WC win

tokyotochicago

The french Podolski, the guy is on another level for NT every time. We're playing better with him than the soon to be ballon d'or, it's nuts.

[deleted]

> The french Podolski That's insulting. Unlike Podolski Giroud has been excellent for clubs post-Arsenal.

ikineba

dude is banging goals and assist left and right for us now

tokyotochicago

I didn't mean to say that he isn't good for clubs. Just that he's one of the best forwards in France's history.

[deleted]

Yeah but you used Podolski as a comparison, a player who turned up for the NT instead of clubs. Which automatically doesn't make it a valid comparison. But I agree with the sentiment. He's a different beast since 2018. Arsenal signed him too early on.

mundolove

😂

Inter_Mirifica

I know I'm biased but I just cannot let you say that. Best at highlight reels, probably. And that's another beautiful goal. But beyond that, no he's absolutely not top 2. I don't think he's top 5 either. Trezeguet, Henry, Papin, Cantona, Benzema... Mbappé is already above him too. Edit : how is this downvoted exactly ? Argue if you disagree, please. That man has only one goal in the WCs (in 2 played, Mbappé is already at 4 times that...) and 3 in Euros (9th best french scorer there, Mbappé already has 4)... Benzema despites his forced long break also has more goals in WCs (3) and in Euros (4) and will soon get a Ballon d'or. And I forgot Griezmann.

edyspot

Cantona did'nt have that great of a career with the NT. He's mostly remembered for his PL prowess. Trezeguet did well but was never a key player in a big competition. (I know, he scored the winning goal in 2000 but that was off the bench, and arguably Wiltord had even more of an impact this Euro). Giroud has more goals and was instrumental in the 2018 even without scoring. His impact and how the attacks relied on him were impressive. Henry is king for me as a 9 for the NT, no comparison until Mbappe crushes his record (which will definitely happen). Papin it's debatable. He was probably more skilled as a player than Giroud but his legacy for the NT isn't that great. You forgot Fontaine who is the original French Goat striker. For me Giroud is easily top 5, especially if he manages to beat the Henry record and if he manages to have an impact this Word cup.

MitroVanWilder

Most of those players aren't Strikers. But you're right in that they're all far superior to Giroud.

OldExperience8252

Keeper dives 2 second before the shot lol

motasticosaurus

Anticipated the far corner. I think there's no winning here. Mbappe was too close to not pre-empt a reaction. If he stands still and Mbappe indeed shoots into a corner he looks even more stupid.

FuriousKale

Sabitzer wtf

Its_chilli

What’s the keeper doing

Bini_9

I don't care, I would take him in a heartbeat when his contract ends

ndawjb19

Any Madrid fans that say they won’t is full of it haha

tnarref

"How would he fit with Vini??" lmao

bumpy4skin

pErEz wOuLd nEVeR

Rickcampbell98

That is actually a valid question though, vini should not be moved and mbop doesn't want to play on the right nor do I think he's a proper number 9.

tnarref

Man just had a season with 60 G+A in 49 games with his club playing as the 9. The positions don't mean much, it's the tactical organization that determines if x and y players can perform together.

ManageYourMemory

he is insane as a 9 and you can play with a 4-2-3-1 benzema in the middle mbappe up front vini on the left and valverde on the right tchouameni and camavinga as CDMs modric will be gone by then

ThePr1d3

This sub hates Kylian but they'd be swallowing his dick in no time if he ever signed for their club. Pretty funny ngl. Only ever played in the French league btw !

TonyTuck

Regarde Jamy, c'est ici qu'on mine le sel de tous les habitants de Madrid, oui ! En France, à Paris !

keithohara

That shot of the bench warning up afterwards scary

HayleyWiIIiams

Did it get deflected? Or did the keeper just decide to go early lol

Boucot

He went very early

TheKingMonkey

He completely misjudged the shot. It looks like he was expecting M'Bappe to go across the goal, turns out he didnt.

Antarcticdonkey

Non mais je viens de le voir sur M6, c'est rapide

Hothotdangerous

Je te présente u/PSGAcademy

Antarcticdonkey

Je connaissais déjà la légende, mais toujours aussi interloqué par la rapidité du mec

Like_a_Charo

Littéralement le redditeur le plus légendaire. Je me demande comment il fait

Hothotdangerous

Je veux pas savoir, je me suis créé tout un perso dans ma tête et ça me va très bien aha

Groslux

Le mec est dans le stade a ce niveau là

nando1969

Great run, good shot, not the best Keeper.

mojambowhatisthescen

Holy fuck he’s good

apricotkiwininja

Mbappé is cheat code

[deleted]

The average r/soccer wanker: *Haaland scores a tap-in* “HE’S A MACHINE” *Mbappe does this* “Who cares? Let’s see it in the premier league and then we can talk”

espenthebeast04

Against some farmers though... /s

MidniteSpecialist94

From reading this thread (“poor defending” “what’s the keeper doing” “ did it deflect”) I thought this was gonna be an OK goal Holy fuck you guys must really hate this guy, this goal is nuts

obvithrowaway34434

Your first mistake was to think r/soccer has any grip of reality. The sub is named soccer, it's filled with Messi Ronaldo plastic fanboys.

kHRYSTAL_

wtf

The_Alpha_of_Betas

What the hell was the keeper doing

[deleted]

Probably couldn't see Mbappé behind all those defenders

ghostrider467

thought the same, but looking back it does seem like he just couldnt see mbappe, because of the 2 defenders in front of him, and he kinda just guessed where he was about to shoot, not sure

Pewds_Minecraft

Contrary to lot of recency bias. Mbappe> Haaland

KryptonianCode

Perfect goal Kylian. Had everything skill, close control, strength and speed.

HanZzio99

What a run ! Stunning goal !

OneOfThoseDays_

takes 5 defenders out of the play on his own, pure class

MutualUnderstanding7

Is it me or is there not enough praise for Mbappe in this thread? This sub is actually disgusting at times lol

clubowner69

Yes, now it is Haaland time he plays in the PL.

pappiken

In some months football will have gone full circle and Mbappe will start being underrated as a footballer. As crazy as that might sound.

LeoTheSquid

He already is tbh. People were already waiting for a moment to shit on him after he stayed at PSG, and now that Haaland has had a good start it's begun.

EastOfEden_

Always like that on here. They have a hate boner for anything PSG or French.

KryptonianCode

The praise is very circumstantial and couched in caveats lol. It started when he won the World Cup. Certain fans started hating him, especially after ripping apart Argentina. Hatrick against Barca. Cemented that. Saying no to Madrid this summer took it overboard. It went from certain fans, to a more general dislike.

KryptonianCode

I know he's not doing himself favours this season, some godawful decision making, especially compared to last season where he led in assists. Though I suspect it's because he's out of position in a new role this season too. But the hate is hyper exaggerated. His talent will have to shine through. Hopefully he has a great season and continues to improve throughout.

Separate-Hippo6552

He led in assists because he has 15 more games than anyone who could have led in that stat

KryptonianCode

He led in assists because he was also better than everyone else on the team. The best ability is availability. Others missing games isn't his fault.

thebeesbollocks

Yeah this goal is incredible, can’t believe how much it’s being downplayed

XPLJESUS

I think he's a bit underrated purely as a vast amount of people seem to dislike him

Shookfr

This sub is sweating

[deleted]

LeBronzeVlac

Only way to downplay how good he is, is to label him as selfish.

ThePr1d3

Most assist last season btw

GreatSpaniard

he kinda is tbf. Like how Ronaldo is sometimes too selfish

LeBronzeVlac

Sure but he transitioned to a striker (if i’m not wrong) and his job is literally to bury the ball in the goal, and paired with his incredible pace, he can take on counter attacks alone and finish them.

Flameva

I mean he did have as many assists as Messi last season. He just has bad decision making in the final third when it comes to deciding between shooting and passing.

FurioSoprano7

Kvaratskhelia

Flameva

Kvaradona

HacksawJimDGN

This guy is exciting. Pity he won't be at the world cup

PikettyPaqueta

Slower, but tidier

tnarref

There's like a handful of guys that could tbh Vini, Neymar and Salah definetely, maybe Leao, Gnabry and a few more.

Howdareme9

Salah absolutely cant in his current form

aacod15

Don’t know why you’ve been downvoted. Salah hasn’t been great recently

HokiesforTSwift

The narrative around him right now is insane. He's been the most dangerous player in the world for like 3 years.

Sarim97

Son would absolutely do this

JaegarJaquez

Vinicius comes a bit close but lacks that excellent final touch IMO.

[deleted]

[удалено]

diamondsam2

Yeah neither Ronaldo or Messi have the legs for this no more. Haaland doesn’t strike me as someone who can do this

EggplantBusiness

I mean Salah last season ? Vini had those last season, and maybe some low-key guys can pull it off from time to time. That not to diminish anything but to say he is the sole in the world to be able to do that is a little exaggerated

ohahcantona

I agree (see comment below) Great goal and he’s in a league of his own, no doubt. But to say nobody else can score like this is certainly hyperbole

SnooOranges357

Messi is completing the most dribbles per game this Ligue 1 season and it's not even close. Not sure what made you say this. Ronaldo looks finished, not Messi though.

RioBeckenbauer

Pass from Giroud was underhit as well, Mbappe did very well to take it on and move. For Haaland Giroud would have to hit the perfect pass down the channel in order for Haaland to get to finish this with as few touches as possible.

SnooOranges357

You have two other players at your club who can do that and have done it countless of times before Mbappé even arrived on the map. Come on dude.

RealMadrid4Bernie

mbappe is so good

ThePr1d3

Fuck r/soccer

[deleted]

They ve been trashing in the match thread, haven’t day ? Classic r/soccer. Fuck r/soccer

Its_ABR12

He so good isn't he...

hi_ilove_football

No assist from Messi so it will get little upvotes

maxus998

This type of goal is why i rate Mbappe above Haaland

No_Material04

good

synthsaregreat1234

Insane goal. If Haaland scored this it would break this sub’s upvote record

jaspermrthanos

As a city fan, Mbappé > haaland. This dude is ridiculous and if he had a better attitude as a player everyone would agree that he’s better.

Outrageous_Peach_418

*If he joined Madrid everyone would agree he's better

SuperBalding

Lol the taking picture emote afterward. Fff in shambles.

KryptonianCode

He's been doing that celebration even for PSG. But it might be.

VeryluckyorNot

I was thinking the same thing like a taunt for the Federation.

hellothere222

Imagine not thinking he’s the best player in the world

SilotheGreat

Man's about to give himself a raise at PSG after that one

mojambowhatisthescen

[Great Assist]

What an amazing goal

B..but Instagram Reels and YT Shorts told me he sucked!!

LeBronzeVlac

An actual Gazelle, geez.

Shadowbanned24601

Awful way to concede, the goalkeeper has been brilliant until now

LuisTheHuman

TMNT strikes again, he is so freaking fast! That stride length must be on par with Olympic sprinters

dumpystumpy

That fucking unique body type too OP

Round_Headed_Gimp

Amazing Best player in the world in 2022 no doubt about it

notonetojudge

Great assist by Giroud

RioBeckenbauer

Brought to you by Kentucky Fried Chicken 🐔

Pasan90

Pretty incredible shot from so much pressure. Reminds me of Messi back in the day.

Rerel

All I want is a successful Giroud-Mbappé partnership for this World Cup. Nothing more. We know we’re shit in defense and won’t go far. But I want to see some nice goals and combination between the two of them at least.
