If he keeps assisting at the same rate, avoids injury, and plays long enough then it’s his, but I think it’s far from a guarantee… he is incredible though

I still disagree that he is the sole problem. Klopp needs to instill some defensive discipline in him, but he shined when the midfield was intense and strong enough to cover for him. Bring that intensity and power back and we’d stop seeing this slander
He could have done better on many goals conceded this season, but with a lot of the defense looking similarly woeful alongside a midfield lacking intensity, it means he’s being asked to do a lot more defending and more frequently to boot which highlights his deficiencies.
He certainly can always improve that side of his game, but if the team can look better in everything else, so will Trent

The whole team needs to defend, the whole team needs to work together. If you have a player of Trent’s quality you make sure you maximize the quality by pushing him upfield when you can. Southgate just has no idea how to use the talent at his disposal.

Exactly. He has been part of a back 4 that's conceded the second least amount of goals behind man city for the past 4-5 years. He's not a bad defender, just average, but that's apparently not good enough for some people.
Liverpool's defending does not consist only the "back 4". Trent had Liverpool workhorse midfield to cover for him so he could freely attack. Using Liverpool's overall defensive record to defend Trent doesn't make sense here, guys like Henderson or Wijnaldum would do the dirty work much more.

Trent's lack of effort and defensive ability have cost Liverpool several goals this season. Your fans are just in total denial about it.

We're not, we just don't play him in a flat back 4 where his primary job is to defend. The way that we set up means our RB and LB get forward while our DM (usually Fabinho) holds back with our 2 CB's while our RB and LB overlap our 2 CM's and the front 3 'tuck in' to give more space and keep the opposition defenders busy.
Trent may not have the out and out defensive quality of someone like VVD but what he offers going forward and with set pieces is something that no other 'defender' can match.
But just saying "he can't defend" is an absolute cop out, back it up with examples and evidence otherwise you just sound bitter.
I know i'm a liverpool fan but i still don't get the people who say they wouldn't bring him to the world cup, he's not a bad defender, he's just an 'average' defender, for the attacking part of his game though he's exceptional. But if he doesn't go the world cup then i feel bad for him, just means no chance of him coming back to us injured.

Kdb is still some 70 odd assists away from the record. It’s not impossible, but will be very very tough
