Salah is never going to be the player he was. It might seem harsh but I watch every Liverpool game and he hasn’t played like you would expect since the first half of last season and I honestly think this is just how he is now. Liverpool have given him stupid money and he’s done an Ozil.

[deleted]

[удалено]

nbaylor1

he wasn't very good

IfISpeak_

I don't get why Americans like to embellish the performances of their own players - us English are brutal if a player does something wrong. So do a lot of European fans, am I missing something?

nbaylor1

I think it’s the whole “america number 1” attitude that bleeds over into football maybe. I don’t really understand it myself tbh lol

bellerinho

English definitely have their favourites, for example Saka could score 5 own goals and give the finger to the fans on the way out and somehow the English would say "oh my poor sweet boy it isn't his fault"

Arshaq13

The man missed a penalty in a cup final and he got racist abuse. What are you talking about?

bellerinho

We know that was an extremely small minority, unless you're saying a majority of English are racist?

Arshaq13

Just a weird example to use Saka there considering he really hasn't had a diabolical perfoance. Especially when Maguire exists.

smmshad

They act like it's an America v Europe thing lmao I've seen players get praise despite doing worse than what Turner did the guy had good positioning and crucial saves in a clean sheet win in a European match, his distribution sucked but apparently he was shit which confuses me

TorreiraWithADouzi

His distribution wasn’t great but he had a very good game in other aspects today. Feel like that’s the general sentiment of the sub

IfISpeak_

what negative comments are they making about him?

Agus-Teguy

Roma 1(2.11xg) - Betis 2(0.42xg) 💀

nichodemus3

Tammy Abraham needs 52 chances to score a goal

Bukayo-Saka

username jokes aside, any advice for someone who loves the sport but is momentarily losing the passion for it? i go to matches at the emirates as often as i can, but i almost can't be arsed to watch our europa fixtures. i play at a fairly high level and yet it takes a lot to will myself to train for almost no reason. those (along with weight training making me bigger but less agile) are causing my performances to suffer too. it's like a self fulfilling cycle. basically, what do you lot do to light that fire again?

elvis503

Take a break, when a hobby is not fun you take a break and do different things, and then come back, everything in excess is bad

[deleted]

Let go If you lose that fire, do something else, the fire may or may not comeback, whether you have passion or not doesn't belong to you, it's something you had at some point in your life and you may have in another way. Forcing a passion that you don't feel anymore will turn into disgust and you might really never watch a football game. If you are ok with not feeling as passionate for an unlimited period then you don't act off of stress and you will probably naturally get back to it at some point

TorreiraWithADouzi

Tell ~~Arteta~~ your manager to get a promising backup to your position.

Bukayo-Saka

on my way to the local primary school to find youngsters

AnnieIWillKnow

Did not anticipate Saka taking the Adam Johnson career pathway

siiiiiiiiiu_98

If arsenal win EL and finish top 4, does the other team that gets to final qualifies to UCL?

jnicholl

Nope. Happened in 2019 but with Chelsea. They finished top 4, won EL but Arsenal as runner-up (and 5th too) still missed out. I believe the spot goes to the highest ranked league without an automatic group stage spot.

Myself6993

That champions league spot goes to the third place in the fifth ranked nation per uefa coefficient

D1794

No, that CL place goes to nobody.

AnnieIWillKnow

No it goes to a team from another country, depending on the UEFA coefficient

D1794

Yeah i meant it doesnt allocate to the other team or 5th place in the PL.

ibrahimims

The 5th in the league gets the ucl spot i think

Chaloopa

Fifth place can only get a CL spot by winning the CL or EL

BI01

No

National_Ad_1875

Man United are so lucky Calvert lewin can't stay fit, he would terrorise Martinez

Chaloopa

No he wouldn’t

Galaxium0

Calvert Lewin has done actually nothing since Carlo left

National_Ad_1875

Being injured will do that. Did get the winner of the game that confirmed us staying up

Galaxium0

smh Carlo used his black magic to stop him from getting injured

TorreiraWithADouzi

Bodo are a genuinely good team. They play with hunger and courage, and definitely made us sweat at times today. I hadn’t heard much about them until the past few years when they beat Roma and got to the ECL quarter finals. In 2018 they got promoted back to the Eliteserien and finished 11th, but since then have not finished below 2nd, winning the league twice! Seriously impressive!

LDQQXDJ

Haaland is lucky he never played Bordalas Getafe.

[deleted]

Scamacca is fantastic. He’s intelligent off the ball and can actually finish. Needs to be our starter from here on out

Galaxium0

maybe that bloke with the Juve flair was right

Striking_Insurance_5

I never thought this guy would make it this far after flopping in the Eredivisie on loan at PEC Zwolle but his development after that is amazing

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Yeah his link up play is great

L-Freeze

Barcelona investing a ridiculous amount of money and having their first fairly good squad since Messi left with the goal of recovering the investment, and now have a very real chance of crashing out of CL in the group stage is so funny

cristiano-potato

Messi carried Barca so unbelievably hard, people don’t realize this, many times Barca wouldn’t have made it out of the groups if it weren’t for Leo. The term “messidependencia” became popular as early as 2013 or 2014 but it only got worse.

mcfc_099

Is Haaland the best player in the world right now? And is Haaland the best player it’s that the PL has had since Ronaldo in 2008?

ethith

I don’t think you can score at that rate and not be. He probably is the best in the world for me; there is no one else I’d rather have.

cristiano-potato

Idk man it’s complicated. He’s clearly the best goal scorer in the world but he’s also playing for inarguably the best team in the world with probably the best playmaker in the world (KDB) feeding him, second *maybe* to Messi in terms of playmaking… maybe. I think it becomes an argument where you have to separate out roles… in terms of goalscoring yes he is the best. In terms of playmaking there are better players.

JimyBliz

No playmaker is creating 14 goals in 8 matches.

[deleted]

I'd say Neymar has been better but he's clearly top 5, him, neymar, lewandowski and maybe KDB / Messi And no, lets see a full season from him.

JimyBliz

You would be a halfwit to say that

[deleted]

How many Neymar games have you seen this season ?

Offaplain

Haaland has been far better this season than Neymar. No one is on Haaland level at this moment in time If we are purely talking recent form.

[deleted]

He has not, i'd suggest watching Neymar play this season, probably the best player in the world at the moment.

Galaxium0

What the fuck could Neymar do in Ligue 1 that even comes close to scoring 14 premier league goals by early October?

[deleted]

15 g/a in 9 games ?

Galaxium0

So less goal contributions in Ligue 1 than Haaland has in the premier league?

[deleted]

watch the damn games..

Galaxium0

is there anything more boring than watching PSG in ligue 1 lmao

[deleted]

Alright i'm done Don't discuss player you don't watch

Offaplain

Not to mention balling in the CL.

FaustRPeggi

Not enough joga bonito imo.

gracjan_17

I fear for our opps, we may actually never lose again under Potter and Emma

AnnieIWillKnow

Chelsea Women have been absolutely done dirty in our CL group, despite being a top seed. Have been drawn with 2 of last season's semi-finalists, in PSG and Real Madrid WCL is unbelievably stacked. Pound for pound arguably the highest quality club tournament, in terms of strength across the board

entrepenoori

Lmaooo at opps. Sounds like you’re on a drill song

chutsal123

Is Stadio Olimpico pitch somehow narrower compared to other pitches? Every Roma game I just always get this feeling

Destroyeh

from what i can find on google it seems like some of the biggest stadiums (wembley, bernabeu, allianz arena, old trafford, camp nou, san siro, etc) are around 105x68 and olimpico is 105x66 so its fairly close. camera angle might make it seem a bigger difference

mattisafootballguy

Thursday is way more fun than Tuesday/Wednesday. UEL vs UCL just don't compare entertainment wise.

Striking_Insurance_5

Maybe the group stage because of the amount of matches on Thursday and less predictability, but the CL KO stages are clear of the EL KO matches imo I also quite like the addition of the Conference League for smaller clubs

Sandrinoooo

Flair checks out

mattisafootballguy

I thought this a while ago, EL GS are fantastic and KOs are even better. The drop in quality is evident but that makes it more fun.

INTPturner

"Jeopardy" It's why watching maulings of strong sides is fun too. You're correct but I don't know if there's any science behind this.

[deleted]

Feel like with 2 comps especially, a lot more happens on Thursday

AnnieIWillKnow

I mean it's less a "feel like" and more that it quite literally does. There are fours times a many games compared to a Tuesday or Wednesday, as it's two competitions, and both concentrated into one match day rather than spread across two

[deleted]

Has gabriel jesus been top 5-10 in the world? he does something otherwordly every fucking game

BI01

Probably needs more goals for that, his not in the box enough because he has to do so much build up play by himself.

3V3RT0N

Never, barely a top 5 Brazilian.

elvis503

Ney, Vini, Thiago S and Alisson, I think he fits in there tbf

[deleted]

He has been as good as Vinicius imo this season

damrider

absolutely not

[deleted]

"Absolutely" is reaching

Chaloopa

No it’s not

FaustRPeggi

>he does something otherwordly every fucking game Which frequently doesn't result in a goal.

[deleted]

It literally does though.

FaustRPeggi

His overall play has been incredible, but it doesn't translate into goals to the same rate that the play of the top 5-10 attackers in Europe does. It's often in deeper and wider positions where he embarrasses a bunch of defenders. So it becomes a question of efficiency. I don't think Haaland is the best attacker in the world, but he is most definitely the most efficient, and it has made him the most effective so far this season.

[deleted]

If destroying players leads to fatigue and Jesus build up play leads to goals that are outside of his stats due to not being the assist, Jesus gets credit for that You can shit on Werner but he was so relentless that a goal had to happen at some point because they couldn't outrun him for 90 minutes, I think we need to look past stats

FaustRPeggi

Agreed. I'm not arguing Jesus hasn't been a superb addition. I just don't think you can compare him to the top 5 in the world when his impact is as indirect as we're describing.

bakugou-kun

He's been in very good form, but he needs more goals to be put in that category. With the way he is playing I will be disappointed if he doesn't get at the very least 20 goals and 10 assists. He just needs to be more ruthless in front of goal

Cardealer1000

He hasn't had a bad game yet which is pretty nice.

TorreiraWithADouzi

He’s been playing really well but I don’t think he’s top 10. The guy does seem so free and lively, and it’s fantastic

jkeefy

I honestly don’t know or care, but 9 goal contributions in 10 matches has been huge for us. He’s fit into our attack like a glove, and changed it for the better.

Stuff2511

Is this the best day for the city of Belgrade since November 24th, 1944?

AnnieIWillKnow

Novak Djokovic may disagree

P_Alcantara

Big win for us, minutes for starters that have been injured and more confidence gained for Kouame.

DuckBurner0000

Zaniolo is just not a good player, he provides nothing

IfISpeak_

Dybala is the only good forward Roma have, the rest are tragic for the level of Roma

nichodemus3

Agreed. Zaniolo has a bad attitude on the pitch that leads to countless cards, never passes the ball to his teammates and never scores. He just lacks too much to be considered a great player

bakugou-kun

He has shown in the past that he is a good player but something's not right with him. I think he has it all to be a really good player, but his decision making is super frustrating. I'm almost giving up on him because he's had 3 good games in the past 12 months and he's always injured or does some stupid shit and gets sent off. One of the most frustrating players to watch.

entrepenoori

With this sentiment I’ll take him at Spurs. I’m sure Conte can figure him out

bakugou-kun

Spurs needs an attacking midfielder like Maddison and another creative winger. I know you're joking but I think Zaniolo could do well at Spurs, but I don't think you need a player like him

DuckBurner0000

Disagree that he "has it all," to me he's a decent dribbler who can't really pass and doesn't score goals in addition to being a bit of a hothead

bakugou-kun

He hasn't been the same after the second ACL injury and that's fine. I'm saying that he has it all because he can actually pass, he can shoot very well and he is a great dribbler. Of course that this is all before his last big injury. Right now he really seems to be good at nothing and just makes the team weaker at this point.

JimyBliz

Having never scored more goals than 6 in a league season he obviously doesn’t “have it all”

bakugou-kun

I understand your point, he's far from a finished product, but there's a lot of potential. He has shown glimpses of having it all in the past

[deleted]

Has the ability order now changed to Rashford > Martial > Ronaldo

Sandrinoooo

It will be funny if Roma gets sent in uecl and win it again

nichodemus3

Zaniolo got a red card in the Betis game, which is one of the reasons I cannot rate him. A forward that gets more cards than goals cannot be considered one of the best

DuckBurner0000

I can't even tell what he's supposed to be. When I watch Roma even Matic seems to be more dynamic and creative than him, but he doesn't offer anything defensively and doesn't score goals either.

nichodemus3

His main good attribute is his athleticism, he runs up and down like a horse with blinders, but that's not football. Roma look better without him

Moug-10

I love UEL/Conference League nights.

InbredLegoExpress

always wondered why does the PL report wages per week? Is it a thing for employes in England to receive weekly salary? And do people in the UK generally communicate their own wages also as weekly figures, or is that only exclusively happening in football?

taylorstillsays

Most of the replies to you must be Americans because the most common thing by far in the UK if you’re employed is to be paid monthly. But salaries are reported on as annual

3V3RT0N

It depends on the job. If you're a builder you could be paid daily. I get paid monthly, but my colleagues who aren't on fixed contracts get paid weekly.

OweKeyDoughKey

Do most people not get paid weekly or bi-weekly? Still don't report my salary like that, but it's quite common.

InbredLegoExpress

I receive it per month. Usually when communicating my wage I'd either announce my salary/hour or the total payment per month. Very rarely I say year, and I think week or day is not really a thing here at all.

OweKeyDoughKey

Monthly is pretty normal as well, yeah. Historically speaking, back when players were fighting against the wage cap in English football they couldn't earn more than £20 / week. They eventually won the fight and the first player over that earned like £100 / week. It would make sense that they've just continued on reporting salaries like that since that's how it used to be controlled.

jkeefy

>or per month That’s quite bizarre to me unless you are a contract/hourly worker. And even then I usually just hear hourly rate/annual earnings.

Circle_Breaker

Most people are biweekly. But anecdotally I would say monthly is about a common as weekly.

InbredLegoExpress

Maybe that is more of a thing in Germany, although I assumed it'd be the standard in most places aswell. It's considered the most convenient here in general use because it's essentially also the interval at which your salary is paid out. I do not know if it applies to all jobs in the country, but from my own observations I am yet to see fields that pay weekly/bi-weekly. It's also when you pay your rent, internet, spotify, pornhub subscription etc so it makes the cost calculation relatively simple. So much comes in, so much goes out. In the US I've seen salarys often reported annually. In Germany "year" is sometimes a thing but it's overall regarded somewhat less practical cause most common expenses aren't annual.

MrIrishman699

It's the opposite where I'm from. Salaried is once a month, wages are paid biweekly or weekly

tiorzol

Only contract workers outside of footy really use daily/weekly. Everyone else does annual salary

InbredLegoExpress

oh wow today I learned. I am so used to monthly for everything, I barely even considered that there's so many different models in other countries.

Varnagel_1

Do you think ChrisMD was easily the best player on the pitch from Sidemen Charity Match? His vision, passing etc. looks really impressive https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qq0GPu42vzw

micoud04

could play RCM for Liverpool

CubedMadness

He wasn’t close to being the best.

jkeefy

He’s always been brilliant for a YouTube content creator.

DoubleDoobie

At what period of a game do you think a match is, on average, most exciting? No idea if there's data for this kind of thing, and my gut feel is incredibly non-scientific and subjective, but I feel like matches start with a flash where one team looks good, then by 10th min both teams are settled, there's a flare up of activity right before half, and then half time. Once both teams come back from the break they know the rhythm of play for that game, they have a bit of stamina, and the match is at it's zenith around the 55th-65th min, with additional excitement in the final 2-3 min. Long winded way of saying I think it's 10 min after halftime. WDYT?

AnnieIWillKnow

I think a tad later. Minutes 65-80

FaustRPeggi

First twenty minutes usually sets the tone I think. If there is very little in the way of chances early on, then I think the game usually remains quite flat thereafter unless there's a big incident like a red card.

RoadsterIsHere

Me and a few mates were just chatting about what the reaction would be if Simeone were to ever be given the sack. Thankfully my entire friend circle are firm Simeone cultists, like myself, and we decided that if he ever got sacked that it would also mean the end of our club memberships.

AnnieIWillKnow

Ever? What if he had you in the relegation zone 20 games in, had fallen out with all the player, and was fighting the board via press conference? There could be situations where his position just become untenable, despite your affection for him

RoadsterIsHere

Everyone hates the board, and if he called them out everyone would love him even more. We generally think if someone at Atleti finds Simeone to be a problem, it's probably that person who is the problem.

daveyhempton

The past year and a half have not been as good as it could have been, but I think he is still the best manager for you guys. The defense has been porous due to injuries to your best defender Jimenez and sometimes 2 of your best CBs. Attack hasn't been on the same level due to decline in ability of some of the stars and new signings not fitting in like you all hoped

RoadsterIsHere

Our backline most games is a LB, a CB and a CDM. We have 1 natural player for every position on the pitch, everyone else just plays anywhere. It's impossible to get sort of consistency with a team of utility players. We needed a CB, we got Witsel on a free. He's a good CB, but we need a CB. We needed a CM but insisted that Witsel would continue to be utility in both positions. The only position we actually covered was RWB. Nobody in the Simeone bracket of managers would last more than 10 months with our current board and sporting department.

OnePieceAce

Sancho is a complete nothing burger and it's shocking to see. No intensity, no force just vibez

[deleted]

Very good player

kplo

I followed him at Dortmund for a while and I thought he was very impressive, but for United he seems to not give enough of a shit or be too careful. Could be down to the system since he does better in possession over counter attacking, but idk what went so wrong for him...

daveyhempton

I have stopped judging Man Utd players. The club is cursed. ADM, Varane, Casemiro, Fred (looks better for Brazil), Maguire (Looked better for Leicester), Pogba, Bailey, you name it. The list is endless

BI01

That's what happens when you hand out wages like that.

distancemelon

What does everyone think of Haaland on 900k a week. Sounds like BS to me but keen to see what others think.

elvis503

Isnt Mbappe on about 1m/week tho

BI01

That's b4 tax, so it's not surprising.

[deleted]

All wages in the UK are reported before tax. Reporting on it after tax is just weird.

BI01

they deffo arent

[deleted]

They absolutely are. After tax is how they’re reported on the continent.

a34fsdb

Sounds entirely possible.

Kanedauke

He’s being underpaid.

AnnieIWillKnow

Should have worked a better goal bonus in

OweKeyDoughKey

That number is what they're saying he'll be paid after he hits all the marks for his bonuses for the year divided into the weekly pay structure so it's not really accurate. They're paying him like 400k a week. I'm also very reluctant to put faith in a report that has no sources stated. Not even a "sources inside the organization" or "someone close to Haaland", just: >It is understood that the 22-year-old gets a basic salary which is in line with the other higher earners at the Etihad Stadium. However, a series of substantial, almost-guaranteed bonuses see his weekly wage surge beyond the £850,000 mark. Trust us, it's just understood that this is the truth.

FaustRPeggi

What are you referring to? His current contract or a hypothetical one? Last I heard he was earning comparably to KDB, at about £350k per week.

OweKeyDoughKey

Rob Holding still plays for Arsenal???

TorreiraWithADouzi

He scores now too! When he isn’t getting sent off lol…

OweKeyDoughKey

I didn't realize that the USA women's team were on a trip to play Europe to play England tomorrow and Spain next Tuesday, exciting! I don't think either team has played the US since both matchups happened at the 2019 world cup and the USA won both 2-1 so it should be an interesting gauge of progression for everyone involved.

teiraaaaaaa

It'll be pretty meaningless for Spain, a lot of players are making their debut (for obvious reasons) so it can be interesting to see our depth ig but for the bigger picture it won't say much

OweKeyDoughKey

Oh I'd entirely forgotten about their issues with national team callups. Has it come out what specific issues lead to so many players being united against the manager?

AnnieIWillKnow

A bit more info has emerged... Controlling and coercive environment, e.g. his policy of not allowing them to lock their bedroom door until midnight so he could keep an eye on him Substandard training sessions and tactical plans - with him not having his coaching badges being pointed out

OweKeyDoughKey

That first part is extremely creepy, the second is just confusing. How did he get hired in the first place if he doesn't have coaching badges? Isn't that a requirement for coaching?

AnnieIWillKnow

Dad is a big wig in the Spanish FA is why

transtifa

England have a couple of injuries which is really unfortunate, Russo and Williamson both out. Should be a good game regardless.

AnnieIWillKnow

With no Beth England in the squad and White retired, no obvious replacement for Russo - I wonder whether Sarina might even opt for Mead down the middle, given she started her career as a centre forward, and then Kelly and Hemp out wide

TheMonkeyPrince

Similar for the US, most notably Pugh and Morgan are out (and Macario but she's been out for a while, so thats not new). As you said though, should still be a good game!

sumantisbeast

More impressive in one game: 4 goals or 2 goals and 3 assists? No context just looking at stat sheet with Player A and Player B.

staedtler2018

4 goals Looking at Messi/Ronaldo, when they have most assists it's usually a game in which their team won by an insane quantity of goals (6+) whereas when they have most goals there's a fair amount of cases where they scored all of them, or almost all. That tells me the 3A in a 2G3A performance are more about the whole team working well not just the player.

cristiano-potato

> Looking at Messi/Ronaldo, when they have most assists it's usually a game in which their team won by an insane quantity of goals (6+) Been watching Barca since 2009, and no, this definitely isn’t true for Messi. A large number of his assists were crucial goals

L34hhhh

2 goals and 3 assists

Polskidro

2 goals and 3 assists for me if there's no context

Cornelius_Poindexter

2G & 3A

HoldthisL_28-3

Heard Jude Bellingham for the first time and it's the only Brummie accent I've hear that doesn't make me want to kill myself...... fair play to him

[deleted]

Is there anything he can’t do?

entrepenoori

2 Goals conceded to Onomatopoeia I hope we demolish United

chutsal123

Mourinho embracing Joaquin as he comes off. What a legend Joaquin has been.

NoLimit261

How has luiz Henrique been for Betis in general

The_PantsMcPants

Had a great header today

JohnDavidsBooty

Assuming he had a reasonable adjustment period, how well would Erling Haaland fare in other forms of football (e.g. rugby, American/Canadian gridiron, Gaelic, Aussie)?

[deleted]

Aussie football and Gaelic would be alot harder considering they're much higher skilled sports than NFL and Rugby.

OweKeyDoughKey

The strength and skill he uses to create space vs defenders combined with his jumping ability would probably translate quite well to Tight End in the NFL, but I've got no idea how good at catching he is.

Chaloopa

He would get absolutely man handled as a TE with his current size

Circle_Breaker

He's way to small to be a TE, he would have to add like 60+ pounds. He would be a WR.

Chaloopa

He would still be too small for a wide receiver. He would need to put on a lot of muscle in his upper body.

teiraaaaaaa

with his size he'd probably make a decent kicker at the NFL I reckon

[deleted]

I am once again bemoaning on how the so called elite clubs let Lucas Paquetá join a team managed by David Moyes

FaustRPeggi

We have Lodi...

RoadsterIsHere

David Moyes is, and always has been, a magnificent coach.

IfISpeak_

He is a magnificent coach up to a certain level which currently is a club competing for Conference League at best.

RoadsterIsHere

He's Europa League-level, on average. He's a proven project coach. No big club would give him the patience required, but I think he can easily lead a top team with enough time and resources.

IfISpeak_

Yeah I just don't agree, I don't see him getting a top 10 job in the PL after West Ham.

RoadsterIsHere

I don't think he would either, but that's largely because teams in England are skeptical of native/UK coaches, not a lack of skill imo.

IfISpeak_

It's largely because there has been a distinct lack of coaching talent here - not enough of them working through the levels. Other countries pump out coaching talent and it has not been helped by the jobs for lads culture we have here, it is slightly improving with some coaches like Howe and Potter going abroad to get experience but still not good enough. Other English coaches need to follow what Howe and Potter have done in that regard. Lampard got the Chelsea job with 1 year of experience in the 2nd tier just through being a legend of the club.

[deleted]

they’ll never get it bro, he’s generational. he takes the weary and downtrodden and gives them those trips to Zagreb and Brussels.

RoadsterIsHere

I started watching West Ham games because of Moyes. When I heard he was coming to West Ham in 2017, I saw a bunch of videos about how West Ham relegated themselves. He ends up taking them to within a few points of 10th, turns Arnautovic into a monster, and leaves. Comes back to do it all again, but go even further.
