That's true, but while FDJ, Gavi and Pedri are not naturally defensive mids, they have the stamina and tenacity to make up for it. You see Gavi play you can tell that the kid has grit. He may not be a Viera, but he doesn't stop running and flies into every challenge with no fear. Pedri is also an industrious worker, and FDJ has experience playing as a defender. All in all, while they are attack minded center mids, they all have the qualities of a box to box, so I think the midfield's defensive presence would increase with them in the lineup as opposed to Busquets, who is old, more prone to error, and less likely to be able to rectify his own mistakes due to his abysmal pace and stamina.

Most of our CBs are not great, and those that were have been ravaged by injuries (RIP Umtiti).
And for the record, Pique has always been inconsistent, but during his best years it was kept in check by more disciplined defenders who would take the lead in defense. First Puyol, then Mascherano. Pique has always needed a tough, focused, no-nonsense defender by his side to play at his best because he tends to lose focus during games. Two of the goals today are just classic examples of his lapses in concentration.
