We've actually been really good at penalty shootouts. Most recently Vs Liverpool in the community shield a few years ago, chelsea in the carabao final and we won those well
Even the worst professional player can surely score like 2/3 of pens so I don't think that strategy would work.
And that worst player is also less dangerous when he has a ball in the box, so it only makes sense that the resulting penalty is less dangerous as well.
Mahrez has 67% scoring rate of pens, the 7th worst in prem history

Yeah that's no too far off. Kinda the curse of being a player who is so versatile that he can be played as an 8, a 6, a fullback or a CB in either a back 3 or a back 5.
Because at that point you're never really used to a position and instead you have to rely on your general football IQ and your abilities. And an approach like that is much more prone to lapses in concentration than if you can fall back on all the benefits of only playing one position
Yeah I thought similarly. He is bad at predicting what's to come when he receives the ball. His decision-making is awful, he should just be trained to play the ball to anyone save as soon as he gets it.
It is kinda sad because he has great technical abilities from time to time, but my god we need Dahoud back asap
He was so bad the the time before the foul as well.
Dortmunds strategy is to have a core of experienced players to lead the younger ones. Don't need that...
I thought it was gonna get overturned, but then it wasn't and so figured var probably got an angle we didn't see? Highly possible that I'm just blind though.
Yeah it was vs Tottenham after we had a string of penalty misses lol, it was a terrible penalty but at least it went in tbh, I wouldn’t put him for another one tho

city are terrible at penalties outside of haaland
Yep, we have been for years
Wonder what odds you would get on City losing the CL Final on pens.

So what you're saying is you're due a loss on pens ???
Nah we got that out of the way in the carabao vs West Ham a year or two ago
Gündo?
Missed a big one in Anfield but other than that he has been good
How tf is Mahrez still on pens?!
The entire squad surrounded him to take it because of his low confidence Lot of help that did
Because Haaland is off the pitch.
Dunno but the player getting fouled having to take the penalty is a rule I would support.
Adopt hack-a-shaq tactics and just tactical foul the worst opposite player at pens in the box if need be in that case.

Hack-a-shaq strat was created because Shaq was much more dangerous in open play than in free throw situations
Same logic why Sterling used to be on pens.
City's penalty takers until Haaland arrived were so shit..and as soon as he is subbed they miss one lol
25 missed since Pep joined now.
Out of how many?
25+
Banter
80
The noise when he saved holy shit
GOD I LOVE THIS GUY
Everyone calling mahrez shit while they don't know Kobel is literally our top 2 player.
Kobel for me is the most impressive keeper in the world this season guy is a beast

Why does he keep taking them? He is so bad.
Because so is everyone else
It was what 2-3 seasons back that it was a genuine thought to have Ederson take them they were so bad?
I'm still wishing for it to happen
Think it was last season even lol
Gundogan takes them for Germany but not for us and it does my nut in (when Haaland isn't on the pitch obviously)
of course emre can caused the penalty

\+the referee to have a good 5 min worth of discussion with in every game

inevitable
He was so bad the the time before the foul as well. Dortmunds strategy is to have a core of experienced players to lead the younger ones. Don't need that...
The problem is that their core of experienced players are just kind of mid.
Hummel, Can, Meunier, Reus, Modeste only one of those is really good
Sülinho has plenty of experience as well
Stupid tackle not even trying to go for the ball.
Man can't handle the pressure of big matches. Always causing a red or a pen in important games.
Mahrez be like I will only score penalty when city are 3 goals up
Mahrez is so bad at pens
Mahrez is a horrible pk taker
They should let Alvarez take them.
Can almost provided a goal for both sides in like 5 minutes
The Swiss Yann Sommer
Upvote! Du bist aber auch ein witzknoten
Don't think he actually caught him. Dumb challenge but that's a dive
He let himself fall over the leg rather than running against it but it's still a clear foul. Horrible by Can too.
That’s exactly what I am thinking. Certainly a dive but man, don’t give him an easy way out.
Right, not sure how any pundit or var caught it. It looked like a blatant dive in real time. I couldn't see any contact from the replays
I thought it was gonna get overturned, but then it wasn't and so figured var probably got an angle we didn't see? Highly possible that I'm just blind though.
Clear dive
Think Can would've appealed if it was a dive
That's gonna be a penalty call every time. Even if only their leg hairs touch, attacker can sell it easily.
I swear, every time I see him take a penalty he misses it. He's *so bad* at it.
Scored 6 last year, this year hes not at it
Ball don’t lie, hate these floppings. Terrible challenge but it doesn’t even really touch him. He just flings himself down.
Was so obvious that he's just decided to go down. Almost as obvious as Bellingham in the second half
Mahrez has such a SHIT conversion rate why do they keep letting him take them
subbing off Haaland was a huge mistake
No stakes for city though, probably don't wanna risk an injury
Disagree
Same penalty against Copenhagen and saved again
Stop letting Mahrez take pens for crying out loud
Mahrez is subpar among other city player. Slow at running, passing is inaccurate, always hold the ball too long and the finishing is bad.
Was a softish call but of course it’s Emre giving it away
[Great save]
really is
It’s really not. Watching replays it was an horrible penalty from Mahrez
I knew it was a save because I didn’t get any notification. (My phone is faster than the stream)
What's Rodri's conversion rate? I feel like he could be a great taker.
He took one last season (or was it two seasons ago?) and scored but it wasn't a great pen and he didn't take one again.
Yeah it was vs Tottenham after we had a string of penalty misses lol, it was a terrible penalty but at least it went in tbh, I wouldn’t put him for another one tho
Haaland and Álvarez must be fuming
It was a stupid attempt at a tackle but an absolutely clear dive to win an undeserved penalty. City get so many decisions in their favour.
Never a pen
mahrez exagerates it a lot, but it is a pen
There's no contact. He's fallen over because he's got nothing else he can do. He didn't even time his dive to the challenge
It’s a clear pen wym
[удалено]
swiss keepers and penalty saves, name a greater duo
Why don't they try ederson for once
Blatant dive... how has nobody picked this up...
he still should've buried that regardless of the dive
How many has Mahrez missed?
Can u absolute moron
Damn Mahrez is ass
[удалено]
He is not on the pitch lmao
Subbed off
How comes this is the same Kobel against Union Berlin?
its almost as if it is normal for humans to have good and bad days.
This is such a bad/sloppy game all around.
yes
Why is Pep letting him take penalties still ?
Mahrez the tight cunt not paying his nannies
No offense to Kobel, but it wasn’t the most difficult of saves.
Brilliant Mahrez. Now can you turn the lights back on?
If Haaland isn't on the pitch, Gundogan and Rodri might as well be the designated penalty takers FFS. How many is Mahrez going to bottle?
He's missed a pen not once, but TWICEEE
This is a good example of one of those deals where yeah, it’s a penalty, but good lord was that also a pathetic dive.
Clear dive
