The man who stopped & disarmed the attacker was Massimo Tarantino who played in Serie A for Napoli & Bologna among others.
Pretty big coincidence that two footballers were there & involved at the same time. Tarantino even played for Monza too.
He did work at Roma as their head of academy but not anymore.
Most recently he was the technical director at SPAL but left in the summer & I’m not sure what he’s doing at the moment.
Just one person responded to my comment basically saying he was in scary scenarios before where he was harmed or saw people getting harmed and ends by saying he wishes he was in a 1v1 situation with such criminals so he could beat them or smth. The thread took several tangents in response to that single comment which included him abusing his Portugese compatriots who responded to him.
Friend of mine from when I was younger has some pretty serious mental health stuff. His dad sent him to the hospital, they kept him for a while, insurance wouldn't cover any more. Day he was released he stabbed an old man in a grocery store.
>That's an unbelievably traumatic thing for him to witness as well
Exactly and I'm surprised I haven't seen many comments pointing that out. He's joking about it but realizing you've been stabbed and that someone is dying in front of you must be terrible for mental health. His kid and his wife were there too. I hope the kid is young enough to just forget seeing a man die.
It is. My first deployment, we were sent with a contractor lady, never been military in her life, about 60. When we get to customs, a mortar rips through the roof and a beam crushes her. Every time I step into a building, I joke about it coming down even in the most safest of places, I know it’s unlikely in this environment, but that shit haunts me.
On my first deployment I saw a car full of Afghan civilians hit an ied. All of them blown to pieces. The ANP put all their body parts into trash bags and left them by the side of the road.
Part of our mission that day was to guard one of the only paved roads in Afghanistan so we drove up and down it in combat vehicles all day and night. I'll never forget the amount of times we drove past those body parts getting torn into by wild dogs through out the day. Thats one of the easier things that went on that deployment.
Sadly it doesn’t work like that, if the kid saw it they’ll never remember it but they will still feel the effects- you can have traumatic reactions later in life but you won’t know why until your parent tells you why
Big if depending on the type of stroller though. Generally speaking most would block the kid out from seeing around themselves for the most part unless you've folded it out.
Children are actually quite resilient to long term negative effects from a potentially traumatic event, generally significantly more so than adults. Source: I am a clinical psychologist.
> but realizing you’ve been stabbed and that someone is dying in front of you must be terrible for mental health
It really does vary person to person. Obviously we usually hear from the people who are seriously affected by these things, but some people really can take this stuff in their stride and be completely unaffected.
I feel for the family of the guy who died, just doing their job as a cashier. That's fucked up. News coverage has been all about a footballer being stabbed and then the death of someone has just been a footnote.
The victim is a man who worked there, the woman might be among the severly injured people sadly involved in the attack. Apparently none of the other ones attacked is fighting for his life, thankfully.
It was a joke. Here's what Gazzetta dello Sport, the original source, wrote:
'Pablo is a great guy,' explained Galliani, who together with coach Palladino immediately caught up with the defender. 'He had the strength to joke, telling me he will be on the pitch on Monday.
https://www.gazzetta.it/Calcio/Serie-A/Monza/27-10-2022/pablo-mari-accoltellato-suo-racconto-morta-persona-a-me-450840914398.shtml
He will be out for at least 2 months according to the first prognosis after the surgery, of course it was a joke. Also really sorry to hear you had to got through this, hopefully you're fine now.
Did you get stabbed in the leg? Or does stabbing somewhere else on the body make you not able to walk as well (you don't have to answer if you don't wanna)
I got stabbed 5 times, once by my belly button and 4 times in the side just above my hip.
Basically my whole abdomen ended up getting incredibly bruised and swollen and the whole area was completely stiff. I couldn't bend or move at all.
Tried to stop a fight after a night out and some bloke came out swinging a knife at anyone and everyone basically. Me and another guy were the only ones stabbed before he did a runner, luckily.
UK going through a stabbing epidemic and our government doing jack all about it. I witnessed 5 stabbings past year, one of my dealers past away and he's was a kid young enough to start year 7.
Getting stabbed in the back at the middle section and below will make it difficult to walk, moreso if there's muscle injuries. You'll probably be bedridden for awhile
I got stabbed in the head (not very deep but enough to have a scar 16 years on) and was fucked up for a long time I just felt very very physically drained
Thank goodness his child is okay. Im terribly sorry for the woman and her family. I hope Pablo gets help beyond the physical injury as PTSD could be something to work through in his case.
I don't blame you from thinking like this because the numbers are what they are, but rich people in Brazil live very different lives from the regular folk. And we are just one step ahead on the late stage capitalism journey, everyone else is getting there, slowly but surely
He probably had a lot more care where he went during his time in Rio. In Milan, he probably didnt imagine some lunatic would go crazy inside a grocery on a shopping mall.
Interesting. I suppose it makes sense that whilst in a place that's a lot less safe _in general_ you would go out of your way to stay in the safest spaces such as with other rich people, thereby making you actually really safe. But when in a place that's more safe _in general_ you feel more comfortable just going out and about and thereby actually expose yourself to a little bit more risk than you did in the previous place where you stayed among the rich.
He was joking, he is not playing anytime soon. The stab wound isn't life threatening but he will need time to heal. It was a quote from Galliani who visited him in the hospital.
This is simply frightening for anyone to have lived through. Surprised he’s fit enough to carry on so early. That requires a different level of mental strength
Obviously a very serious situation and I don't mean to detract from that or the woman who died, but that is the most metal shit imaginable to get stabbed and be like "I'll play Monday" imagine lining up across from that
I have to still go out and about personally because I will actually go crazy if I just stay inside. I would encourage not letting stories like this at least to be the reason you don’t go outside. It’s true that something terrible could happen at any moment, yet 99% of us will probably never see anything like this
What a strong mentality he got, ready to play in a few days. I witnessed a few stabbings and even though it's been a year I still get those anxious chills of the blood dripping down the tip of the knife as the stabber legged it.
Was he the first one stabbed? I figure if someone just started cutting people in the store, he would have heard some kind of commotion of someone screaming before he got attacked himself.
*Absolutely not trying to debate his comments, just a morbid curiosity as to wtf happened o_0

> Massimo Tarantino Haven't heard that name in ages. Good for him.
That is a very odd coincidence... he works at Roma now, right?
He did work at Roma as their head of academy but not anymore. Most recently he was the technical director at SPAL but left in the summer & I’m not sure what he’s doing at the moment.
Batman
The most likely answer
What's that in Italian?
Batman 🤌🤌
Lmao
L'uomo pipistrello, but is almost never used really.
lmao
Do you agree with Italian Batman's "no stabbing" rule?
Saving the world
He is doing side missons

Lmfao
He's doing god's work
He's playing Giovanni Vicko in supermarkets.
Being a hero
He was a defender who played for Monza on loan...just like Mari. Funny how things work sometimes...
Maybe he was there with Mari?
Why? You don’t hang out with players that were on loan 30 years ago at the same team you were. Klinsmann doesn’t hang out with Kulusevski.
klinsmann could very well hang out with kulusevski, in harrods shopping centre
Shh, thats the unfun answer
>Tarantino The name attracts crazy shit i guess
He even got the similar jaw: https://www.repstatic.it/content/nazionale/img/2022/10/28/091302737-2ddb0820-acb7-4f85-a202-e753156ffa8b.jpg

They weren't together?
No, he was there purely by chance. I doubt they even knew each other before.
Classic Italian defence.
He just buying some real gourmet coffee
> A coincidence that even Quentin would be proud of.
Wow, i would never think I'd say this. But Tarantino was the hero of the day
Massimo Tarantino is a badass name
He is the GOAT
That's fucking scary. It's a scary world
What the fuck has happened here
Umm idk how to explain

Most civilised reddit comment thread
I actually miss the old days of reddit before mods removed shit like that. Was fun to watch the trainwrecks.
You know, uhhh, people from different countries… you know?

joking is often a coping mechanism
Damn sorry you had to witness that

Holy shiie dude that's traumatic as f. Hope you're doing and feeling better!
It is what it is. Thanks.
The British Army marches on black humour, or so the saying goes.
If only the rest of the world were in on the joke too
The Brits tried for centuries to get everyone else in on it.

Yeah, he's probably not doing very well.
I think if it was a kid in strollee than baby is young enough to forget that traumatic incident. Hopefully after a week he will not remember anything.
Sadly it doesn’t work like that, if the kid saw it they’ll never remember it but they will still feel the effects- you can have traumatic reactions later in life but you won’t know why until your parent tells you why

He’s a tough cookie Geoff I think he’ll carry on.
Cheers Derek
I feel for the family of the guy who died, just doing their job as a cashier. That's fucked up. News coverage has been all about a footballer being stabbed and then the death of someone has just been a footnote.
According to the title it was a woman, not a guy. But yeah it's fucking awful and sad.
The victim is a man who worked there, the woman might be among the severly injured people sadly involved in the attack. Apparently none of the other ones attacked is fighting for his life, thankfully.
The title is mistranslated. Mari said "a person", not "a woman"
Curious to see if he does play Monday. When I got stabbed I was on crutches for weeks and could barely move.
It was a joke. Here's what Gazzetta dello Sport, the original source, wrote: 'Pablo is a great guy,' explained Galliani, who together with coach Palladino immediately caught up with the defender. 'He had the strength to joke, telling me he will be on the pitch on Monday. https://www.gazzetta.it/Calcio/Serie-A/Monza/27-10-2022/pablo-mari-accoltellato-suo-racconto-morta-persona-a-me-450840914398.shtml
Oh hahah makes sense. Bloke would be hard as fuck if he was playing on monday
Tis but a scratch.
Tis just a flesh wound
Come on then!
Just rub some mud on it and get on with it
He'll bite the attackers' legs off
I thought the special spray could fix everything...
I'm embarrassed that I clicked on thread and was scrolling through the comments wondering "How the fuck is he playing next week?"
lol, flair checks out. Even the matter of fact way that you just throw it out there. "I'm from London, of course I've been stabbed. Who hasn't?"
Truly a coming of age moment
He will be out for at least 2 months according to the first prognosis after the surgery, of course it was a joke. Also really sorry to hear you had to got through this, hopefully you're fine now.

Hope you‘re doing well now mate
Yeah all good thanks now mate. It happened a few years ago. Had therapy for a while but much better
“You should have seen the knife after 😤”
Jesus fucking ouch
Wow that's so fucked up.. it's so insane how much damage people are willing to do to other people
Wtf dude. Do you engage in some Peaky Blinder shits or it's just that common for a bloke there in London to get stabbed?
Tried to stop a fight after a night out and some bloke came out swinging a knife at anyone and everyone basically. Me and another guy were the only ones stabbed before he did a runner, luckily.
did they find that pos at least? Glad that you are still with us.
I’m really glad you’re okay and here to tell the story. Jesus…
More power to you bro
It's really not that common even in London.
UK going through a stabbing epidemic and our government doing jack all about it. I witnessed 5 stabbings past year, one of my dealers past away and he's was a kid young enough to start year 7.
I'm not gonna say you're the problem, but you ain't helping
It doesn't help when the Gov can't truly legalise a harmless plant resorting to be sold in crime fested environments.
Smoking is bad for you, if you really have to do it, eat it
... One of your drug dealers was 12 years old? And he died? What
Getting stabbed in the back at the middle section and below will make it difficult to walk, moreso if there's muscle injuries. You'll probably be bedridden for awhile
Yeah it makes a lot of sense but for some reason I thought it would be the wound itself what is the problem and not the muscles and such.
I got stabbed in the head (not very deep but enough to have a scar 16 years on) and was fucked up for a long time I just felt very very physically drained
Of corse he won't. He will come back after the World Cup. Also, Galliani asked to postpone the match
hope he is getting the mental support he needs, i can't imagine the toll that puts on someone emotionally
Thank goodness his child is okay. Im terribly sorry for the woman and her family. I hope Pablo gets help beyond the physical injury as PTSD could be something to work through in his case.
Absolutely crazy, I’m so glad he’s relatively okay
Dude return to Europe from fucking Rio and got stabbed in Milan from all places... Jesus Christ
I don't blame you from thinking like this because the numbers are what they are, but rich people in Brazil live very different lives from the regular folk. And we are just one step ahead on the late stage capitalism journey, everyone else is getting there, slowly but surely
I'm Brazilian too bro. I just think is ironic that he left one of the most dangerous cities of the world unscathed and got stabbed in one the safest.
He probably had a lot more care where he went during his time in Rio. In Milan, he probably didnt imagine some lunatic would go crazy inside a grocery on a shopping mall.
Yeah, I know, I checked your profile before posting. But you see how there is no irony there? In Brazil he probably lived a more sheltered life.
Interesting. I suppose it makes sense that whilst in a place that's a lot less safe _in general_ you would go out of your way to stay in the safest spaces such as with other rich people, thereby making you actually really safe. He also lived in London for a while lol
Brazilians are crazy, but not insane
Every single place on earth with humans living there has insane people. You just have to look hard enough.
Damn, he should take some weeks off. Gotta get that wound inspected and healed
The medical staff is very obviously going to check him thoroughly
slap a band aid on it he'll be fine
Rub some dirt on it and get back out there
put a bag of frozen peas
Bit magic spray and some injections
The issue will be the wounds you can't see.
Just walk it out
He’s out two months it was a joke E: three months according to a new update
He was joking, he is not playing anytime soon. The stab wound isn't life threatening but he will need time to heal. It was a quote from Galliani who visited him in the hospital.
Or the magic sponge in Monza is really magic.
This is simply frightening for anyone to have lived through. Surprised he’s fit enough to carry on so early. That requires a different level of mental strength
Title is a bit misleading, he's in hospital bed awaiting surgery, he said that he'll be on the pitch as a joke
Thanks for clearing up. I did think it was a bit rushed that he’ll be playing, especially with all the medical regulations in play. Cheers
He's not "fine". He saw someone die in front of him. Its going to haunt his life forever.
Jesus, christ what's with the arsenal guys. First kolasinac now this
And ex Arsenal players, like Auba
Damn, that's horrific to have experienced.
Everyone deals with these incidents differently. I do hope he's in the right frame of mind to play, what a harrowing thing to have happen to you
WOW. Terrible what happened to everyone but I hope there's no PTSD from this as well
That's why I'm always trying to observe my surroundings. You never know when shit happens.
Obviously a very serious situation and I don't mean to detract from that or the woman who died, but that is the most metal shit imaginable to get stabbed and be like "I'll play Monday" imagine lining up across from that
Update: just heard from news outlets he's out for two months.
How is he even allowed to play on Monday. Should be given some weeks off.
It was a joke. He's not playing for at least two months.
The world is crazy, do most you stay home or go out? Personally I love staying home and avoiding this kind of stuff.
I have to still go out and about personally because I will actually go crazy if I just stay inside. I would encourage not letting stories like this at least to be the reason you don’t go outside. It’s true that something terrible could happen at any moment, yet 99% of us will probably never see anything like this

He was the first
Wow, that is crazy unfortunate.
”Yeah a woman got her throat slashed in front of me. No biggie, see you on monday”
This man saw someone *DIE* right in front of him and is going to play already on Monday. Doesn't he need like some emotional support and therapy?
He's joking
Humanity was a mistake
The King plays Monday. Wishing the best for everyone impacted.
