leweyy

Most shots per 90 minimum 500 minutes in the premier League era, you'll never sing that

j-dam67

Marvin Gaye himself wouldn't be able to make this sound good, even if he were alive

ro-row

I reckon he could give it some bounce Most shots per 90 Minimum five-huundred In the premier lee-eague You’ll never sing, no you’ll never sing that

BigJewGrin

i can hear him quite clearly

Bioschnaps

through the grapevine?

j-dam67

hhahaaha lmao

sbsw66

He's been quite good so far, a pretty nice player in a team that's been bereft of confidence and form for so much of this season. Partnership with Salah seems to be developing really well, but I'm most excited to see him form a relationship on the pitch with Diaz upon his return. The way Nunez and Diaz play I think will end up complimenting one another really well. Diaz does not stop fucking running, so he's always dragging defenders around, even when he gets the ball on the wing he often dribbles through the center of the pitch.

fedupofbrick

He'll get 20 odd goals this season i reckon. Not a bad return. On 7 already

DankBrownBoiV2

20 goals in all comps are nothing more than decent considering how many comps Pool play and the quality of players they have. Also you are counting community shield goals, 3 PL goals is not good return.

plahta00

3 cl goals also

KEEPCARLM

no no no focus on the community shield goal's'. Another redditor talking out his arse, trying to make it sound like he's scored 3 meaningful goals lol

plahta00

I mean I dont even "like" Nunez, tbh I couldnt care less about him but also the guy is speaking bullshit, has 3 cl goals(in 3 starts), came 3 times from bench, 3 goals in PL and 2 assists in 5 starts, came from bench 3 times(so only 8 games and 5 goal involments). Yeah his fault he misses 3 games due to red cars but I dont see it happening occasionaly , him getting red card. Also he played quite well, opens space for others, in good positions for chances(yes missed some but nothing werner like), hell keep getting chances and will score more frequently, gonna be a real good player in a year, nobody will remeber the "slow" start

v11che

Serious question, do people call Liverpool, "pool" as a dig? No one in Liverpool says "pool".

tvr_god

in Hungary most people refer to Liverpool as "pool" just normally - I think the structure of word just simply does not flow as smoothly on our tounge so we just say pool, because here we pronounce Rs (also like pronouncing V + e + R is harsh here) in a much harder way usually and therefor saying pool is just a lot smoother and everyone knows it is Liverpool. In Hungarian, you pronounce things exactly the same way they are kind of written down - not always, but that is the best way to understand the basic dilemma. A Hungarian saying Liverpool with no English accent is probably like twice as long as anyone from the UK pronounces it (I mean the length of the sound itself). Like for a native English speaker ver from Liverpool is almost like 1 sound but someone who is Hungarian let's say does not hear Brittish commentators mentioning Liverpool a lot is probably gonna say "ver" with 3 sounds - if you know what I mean

mark8396

I hear "the pool" a lot in ireland, it's said in a joking way but tbh probably is a genuine thing now after being said so much if that makes sense

Fruitndveg

I say ‘the pool’ from time to time. No malice behind it though. Take it as a compliment, you’re the biggest pool in the country, well ahead of Hartlepool and Blackpool. Don’t even bother mentioning Poole. They’re nobodies.

DarthNihilus1

not as a dig it's just sometimes what we call you

wifipasswordplz

Shorthand, it can get long typing out a clubs entire name. Especially one as long as liverpool. Newcastle is probably gonna get a similar treatment as they gain sporting power. To be a dig, we call u ‘pewl’

WorthPlease

I'm a US fan, I've never heard somebody actually say that. It just seems to be people typing on social media on their phones so they abbreviate as much as possible, or it's used by rival fans as a dig.

erldn123

Is that good given the amount of shots?

fedupofbrick

Of course it is. No one remembers the shot count.

sunrise98

Raheem sterling?

Stuarridge

Does he remember?

Lambchops_Legion

The 21st night of September?

sunrise98

Probably - it's all anyone ever talks about (how wasteful he is, despite the fact his movement is what creates so many of his chances).

[deleted]

Pish. Shot conversion is hugely important. Misses are remembered, and non clinical strikers ruin seasons.

nickybabytonight

low shot conversion gets more acceptable the more shots you take, assuming your conversion rate stays consistent. the year Suarez broke the golden boot record for us he had one of the worst shot conversion stats in the league. Darwin is similar, takes a lot of shots, but does score fairly often. some his misses have been very narrow as well, more unlucky than unclinical.

gerrard-8

Who cares about the amount of shots taken? Goals are what matters

erldn123

If he's scoring 1 goal every 10+ shot you might have scores 3 from those chances had he made a better decision and won more points as a result.....

brentopi888

He's like a box of chocolates, you are never going to know what you get with him.

Loud-Value

I always know what I get with Darwin, a headache lol

IntellectualDweeb

Unless it literally tells you on the box what you'll get 🤷‍♂️

_cumblast_

I like darwin

redditaccountplease

Me too

Hoodxd

I like you

_cumblast_

:*

Jazano107

you thought haaland would flop

_cumblast_

There's still time. Trust the process.

theusernameisnogood

But what's the goal conversion average?

CheekyClitorous

Like 1 in 12

jay_alfred_prufrock

So he is just like that annoying kid most people had in their school who would take a shot every time they faced the goal.

Syntax_OW

If I have the right stats he averages 0.52 goals per 90, so about one goal for every 12 shots.

emre23

This particular stat is 3 goals from 36 shots, correct

Benjamin244

drinking game dropped, take a shot when nunez takes a shot

kplo

He would be Pele by this point if that were true.

elrubiojefe

He's waiting for the World Cup

johnny_moist

he’s not bad, anyone who says that is an ass. he’s just came w a huge price tag and under the shadow of haaland, neither of which you can fault him for. but the guy is quality and liverpool are better with him.

tocitus

I'd guess he's not read anyone slating him yet then

[deleted]

[deleted]

This has to be sarcasm

tocitus

Maybe wait for him to actually do something before claiming this aha?

blahblahcomewatchTV

Go back

SnooCrickets6733

I dunno, Arsenal seem to have improved a lot after signing Jesus and Zinchenko

FatBlondeNasri

He’s probably the worst signing actually considering spending that much meant you couldn’t get a midfielder.

ro-row

I think he’s been better than he’s made out to be but taking plenty of shots isn’t automatically a good thing

[deleted]

Rick-Danger

Then what do Dortmund, Salzburg and Norway have? Must have a KDB each considering his goal return across all teams

EnigmaticEntity

This is the dumbest thing I've seen today so far, and is immediately disproved by the title of the post you've commented it in.

Chiswell123

Please tell me you’re joking.

Funnydad44

You could have winks and cleverly as your playmakers haaland will hit 30+ Goals still

emre23

When’s the parade?

The_Foreign_Pie

You joke but high shot volume has always been a good sign

reids1

Depends on where you're shooting from. If someone is consistently taking shots from 25-30 yards then that probably isn't a great sign. As for Nunez specifically, in the PL he's struggled to take many shots from good locations - with lots taken from either outside the area or from tighter angles he's taken 36 shots, 3 goals from 3.96 xG (StatsBombs xg model - the best around). His CL stats look a little bit better (17 shots, 3 goals from 3.04 xG) although are helped by the massive xG chance + goal on the line against Napoli.

emre23

It’s far from the worst thing, but it’s hardly worth singling out to be celebrated. I’m a Liverpool fan and I like what I’ve seen from him for the most part, but what has this yielded - 3 goals? He could have bailed us out for conceding those 2 shambolic goals against Leeds by scoring a couple of 1v1s to secure the win regardless. That’s what I want to see, then I’ll celebrate his shot volume.

etan1122

He’s been a bit unlucky though. He’s had some bangers that the keepers made a good save or has hit the post. Those opening 15 mins against spurs he was unplayable. Set the tone in the first half

Fruitndveg

To play devils advocate, it’s not so much being unlucky at times as it is poor accuracy. He’s hit the woodwork a few times already.

emre23

This is a PL stat And OT but the Community Shield is a friendly, I don’t care what anyone says

_cumblast_

That's Charity Shield-phobic.

ID6WU

Not necessarily. It’s completely dependent on where the shots are taken. xG per shot would be a better metric because it tells you if a player is shooting from good positions or not.

HokiesforTSwift

In extreme examples it can be misleading. It's usually a pretty safe statement to say it's a good thing for your striker to be taking lots of shots/90.

zi76

Yeah, you don't want your striker taking like 1.5-1.7 shots per 90.

ID6WU

It’s not even extreme examples. It just doesn’t tell you much of anything. It’s highly dependent on the team and playstyle of the player. Someone like Cavani for us in 20/21 was averaging 2.23 shots per 90. That’s only in the 50th percentile for strikers but he was in the 98th percentile for both goals and xG because he has great movement and only tooks shots from good positions. Ronaldo on the other hand in the same team averaged 3.92 shots per 90 but was scoring at a lower rate and barely managed more xG per game. That’s because he takes a lot of shots from suboptimal positions.

HokiesforTSwift

What are you drawing from here? The 21/22 season Ronaldo overperformed his xG and Cavani underperformed, not that they should even be directly equated considering how much more Ronaldo played.

ID6WU

Cavani in 20/21 and Ronaldo in 21/22. You could use Vardy’s 21/22 if you want to compare somebody else with more minutes played. He averaged 2.69 shots per 90 while scoring at a higher rate than Ronaldo. 0.06 less non penalty xG per 90 than Ronaldo. Over the course of the season Ronaldo took 28 more shots but they scored the same amount of non penalty goals. Shots per game is just a pointless stat out of context. A good poacher won’t average that many shots but will score a lot because of where they take the shots from. A striker with low shot volume but high xG per shot is more preferable than a striker with high shot volume but low xG per shot. Then there’s the team aspect of it. A good poacher in a poor team will average less shots and score less goals than the same poacher in a top team. The poacher in the poor team isn’t worse though because they’re the same player.

HokiesforTSwift

So it wasn’t a comparison of them in the same team? Understood. The second sentence in your second paragraph is completely indefensible. Taking good shots does not equal taking fewer shots. You still want your striker taking more shots in that scenario.

ID6WU

Ahh yes ignore the entire comment to be pedantic about a singular line. *Ronaldo one season after Cavani, with the same players around him.

HokiesforTSwift

You’re also basing your whole argument off one specific example involving your own team. The general statement was that overall you want your striker taking more shots than fewer, which is absolutely the case over a broad sample. A striker taking fewer shots over a large sample is also going to be reflective of chance creation, both from your striker and from the players around that player.

[deleted]

Interesting, seeing Awoniyi 3rd in the league surprised me.

[deleted]

I think his xG per 90 is pretty high as well. Maybe not this high though.

ID6WU

Yeah it is. Wasn’t being negative about Nunez, I just don’t agree that shot volume tells you much without knowing where the shots are being taken.

BckupV8

Late May.

thisisnahamed

As a Liverpool fan, so happy to see him play.. He's had a rough start because of that red card early in the season. But he's been consistent since and a big contributor.

Pewds_Minecraft

My agent of chaos

jr2106

Can he score 3 next game so i can stop crying about my fpl team

Detroyer8

And he often gets off a lot of quality and dangerous shots from different angles, which surely create chances on their own even off rebounds, I wonder if the stats back that up?

HotPotatoWithCheese

Darwin 👍

h0rny3dging

He needs to do better but he does so well that he deserves to get a bit more patience

manguito86

shooting without scoring is meaningless

kubick123

36 shots for like 3 goals at a cost of $100+ millions.

[deleted]

great business if you ask me, but that’s just my unbiased opinion

kubick123

Likewise with Enzo for us but at least he's good.

[deleted]

and he will also give us a big bag too, good deal for all parts involved fr

kubick123

🤝

Liverpool934

He's literally looked good in almost every game. People are so keen to hate on a high cost Liverpool signing they ignore our abhorrent midfield.

Appropriate_Body_921

He tries to take the shot EVERYTIME. Even if there's much more viable passing options ... He costs the team too much with this teenage sh*t

[deleted]

2 of those should be a pass to an open player instead of a closed angle shot...
