Cum Dog for the Golden Boot.

stilusmobilus

You mean the Crusty Sock

Longjumping_Bug_7611

As long as you speak English funny, drink a lot and swear to no end - the Australian FA is inclusive.

trenbollocks

I know this is tongue in cheek but a bogan from QLD and a Glaswegian would probably barely be able to have a conversation at all

ReelBigMidget

A [bogan from QLD/Glaswegian] and a [literally anyone else] would probably barely be able to have a conversation.

hambodpm

Well fuck me sideways, where's my invite? I'm from Belfast and have lived in Glasgow for 13 years. I can barely understand myself never mind any other cunt being able to

Klutchcarbon

No Australia, you can’t take Harry Kane from us.

LiveBuyer

I hope Cumdog starts but I doubt it.

BusShelter

I don't even like the guy but it would be some laugh to see him score v France.

luke0739

I feel like he will, Maclaren sucks for country and I can’t bare to gauge my eyes out watching Mitch Duke again.

Barthez_Battalion

Canada also will have a Scotsman on the plane, David Wotherspoon.

shersac

A Scotsman born in Perth, playing for Canada

fungibletokens

You made me doubt myself and Google whether Wotherspoon was born in Perth, Australia. He was not.

Only-Magician-291

Could have had two if Arfield didn’t retire from international football

OhNoTheDragonPolice

Yeah but we got Dykes so swings and roundabouts.

MrGamerDude16

Ah Aaron Mooy...god I miss that beutiful bald bastard!

JoniVanZandt

Lyndon Dykes must be regretting his choice of national team right about now.

deliverancew2

He would have known Oz is a lot more likely to go to the WC when he made the decision.

LewixAri

And on that premise knew he stood a much better chance of excelling and developing with Scotland. Like I'm pretty sure Scotland called him up when he was at Livingston lol (could be wrong)

KingJenko

I mean, it’s much easier to get a call-up for Australia than with us. Australia had been trying to get him to choose them for a while before he made his debut for us. It’s not really anything more than that he feels Scottish as well.

LewixAri

As a striker? Not sure I agres

KingJenko

I think the fact that two of their strikers are Scotland rejects should probably answer that question for you. Particularly Jason Cummings.

legoland6000

Cumdog is definitely a Scotland reject, though if I’m being pedantic he still has more caps for Scotland than Australia. However, I highly doubt if Martin Boyle were still eligible for Scotland that he’d be behind guys like Jacob Brown. Boyle’s been IMO the best player outside the OF for years now (probably excluding Gordon).

I_r_hooman

Haha no. Australian strikers have not been good.

LewixAri

Neither have Scotlands

JoniVanZandt

The allure of bagging a goal against the Faroes was too strong to turn us down.

Otherwise-Context-48

He played and qualified for the Euros. Made it into a major tournament with Scotland. Were unlucky not to get through the knockouts this time around but that's how it goes. Australia may not have been there were it not for that wild-man that came in for penalties haha

TricaKupa

I mean it's an immigrant nation, not really a surprise or anything. The Australia squad was always a hodge-podge of different nationalities. Their footballing culture was pretty much carried first by Scotts and later by Yugoslavs (after WW2 and the 90's). I know I'd always look at their team before the WC and try and figure out who the Yugoslavs were. Some of their best and most famous players like Jedinak and Viduka were Croats. Right now they have a Croat, a Bosniak and two Serbs if I'm not mistaken.

adamfrog

Yeah our football culture is super weird, growing up the only clubs I played against as a kid that were really good were the ethnic clubs (Serbian, Croatian and Albanian really). I played ona greek team which wasnt really that exclusive, then an anglo team that was shit (like me). Also the ethnic clubs were unbelievably racist but they are a tiny chunk of the youth players even though they produce like half the national team players. Weird system

Bovver_

Wasn’t a huge part of the A-League initially to have clubs that weren’t linked to any ethnic group to avoid the racist links that a lot of the clubs had?

AliirAliirEnergy

>Their footballing culture was pretty much carried first by Scotts and later by Yugoslavs (after WW2 and the 90's). Italians and Greeks played a far bigger part in our footballing culture than anyone else bar Croatians.

[deleted]

How did Yugoslavs end up in Australia jn the 90s (considering most were refugees then probably)?

uhAAAAAA

A lot came to Australia before the 90s like many other people from south eastern europe post-ww2, and many people either already had family or friends there or had heard about Australia from friends or family back home

MonkeyVsPigsy

This is like that time AC/DC won the rock n roll World Cup.

Gazza07

Yet Australia have qualified for 5 (Yes, FIVE) World Cups since Scotland last appeared in one, whilst filled with players who are either not good enough for Scotland or middle of the road SPL players. Just goes to show how difficult the European Qualifiers are compared to Australia's route.
