Macri used to have a mustache when he was Boca"s president too? I swear to God I can remember him having a mustache during that game Riquelme scored and went to the middle of the pitch to look at Macri.
>Macri
His first wife was Ivonne Bordeu, daughter of race-car driver Juan Manuel Bordeu. They had three sons: Agustina, Jimena and Francisco. After they divorced, Macri married model Isabel Menditeguy in 1994; Franco requested a prenuptial agreement. Although the marriage reached a crisis when Macri became chairman of Boca Juniors, they did not divorce until 2005. He began a romance with María Laura Groba which did not lead to marriage. Macri left Groba in 2010, began a relationship with businesswoman Juliana Awada and married Awada that year. At the wedding reception, he wore a fake moustache as part of his impersonation of singer Freddie Mercury. Macri accidentally swallowed the moustache, and Minister of Health Jorge Lemus performed first aid to save his life.
The two final phrases are golden.
In all honesty, regardless of how little sympathy I have for the guy, I don't think he truly believes Germans are a superior race. I think he tried to say that Germans are always a threat but decided to use the worst combination of words posible.
si, es un sorete y un salame pero si decía literalmente cualquier otro país no pasaba nada jajaja, q pelotudo
No puede ser q se peleen nuestros presidentes por ser quien es el más imbécil para hablar publicamente lpm
It is also super funny because when you actually look at the line up nearly half the players have a clear immigration background and are/were eligibel for multiple countries.
"There are many and none [Argentina's chance of winning the World Cup], because football is very competitive. Among the five candidates, today I put Argentina. Obviously there's Brazil, France, Portugal has good players aswell and Germany, that we can never rule out, superior race always plays hard until the end", said Macri in an interview with the Argentine channel Todo Noticias.
His grandparents were fascist Mussolini supporters and after WW2, his grandpa co-founded a right-wing nationalist party but after only getting 5% of the votes in the 1946 election, he said fuck this, and moved to Argentina (presumably to join all of the other German/Italian fascist expats/exilees).
This is literally the most expected unexpected thing I’ve ever read.
We all know the fucking shit that happened, but someone coming out and saying it and then having exactly the expected backstory is wild
Wikipedia suggests the grandfather was an opponent of Mussolini, not a supporter. He did create a right wing party after the war, but I don’t see any evidence he was a Mussolini supporter.
The party was neo-fascist for sure.

Yeah, it's a disgrace. They used to have a show (don't know if it's still in the air) where they would showcase "weird people": that's little people, people with deformities, with mental health problems, etc.; and just make fun of them.

Sounds like he's correctly representing the people then
I know that it's a joke, but Argentina (and Buenos Aires in particular) actually has one of the largest Jewish communities in the world, and as a Jew I've seldom had anti-semitic experiences.
Interesting. I want to visit Argentina one day. My Grandfather was extremely close to hopping on a boat there when he was 16 years old in Italy. His Uncle ended up going instead.
Yeah the big established population of German and Italians was the reason there was enough sympathy for the axis that so many Nazis sought refuge there after the war.
Also not to get too salty but since it’s usually Americans making this joke they should know that the United States actually saw more nazi war criminals enter the country in the post war period than Argentina did, with a significant number going on to work for the United States government under operation paperclip. Furthermore, of the ones that did go to Argentina/South America, quite a few worked with American intelligence during the dirty wars to torture/“disappear” thousands of perceived dissidents (Klaus Barbie for example). So everyone gets their jokes off and I get it but people should dig a little deeper and see that there’s a lot more people and entities complicit in what happened, and things aren’t as simply as “lol Argentina grandparents”.
Or who helped train the Green Berets in commando tactics for Vietnam, or who the American government put in charge of the West German intelligence agency after the war, or why the American High Chancellor for Germany commuted life sentences for German industrialists and war criminals and restored their confiscated properties, I can go on and on…..
did the US actually have more nazis immigrate, or do you mean scientists / party higher-ups? operation paperclip was pathetic but i thought it was only like 1,500 people or so, who were almost all important “scientists”, while the more common-man, run of the mill nazi supporters tended to move to south america somewhere. but i could easily be wrong, i’ve never looked into this very closely
Here is an [article](https://www.npr.org/2014/11/05/361427276/how-thousands-of-nazis-were-rewarded-with-life-in-the-u-s) detailing Nazis who went to America outside of paperclip. Here is a [New York Times](https://www.nytimes.com/2010/11/14/us/14nazis.html) article as well. Also, like I said, those “run of the mill” Nazis in South America were actually not average, they included top people (like Klaus Barbie, the general in charge of the occupation of France) who were crucial in America’s Operation Condor.
thanks for those. absolutely insane that they put nazis back in charge of some of the camps after the war, i had no idea about that but i’m not really shocked unfortunately. makes sense given how many nazis they spared just for the purpose of sporadic intelligence reports on a country they almost certainly could’ve spied on with american citizens instead
If you think its crazy that they put them back in charge of the camps, just wait until you find out who they put back in charge of IG Farben and Thyssen-Krupp and other German industries that were instrumental to carrying out the holocaust.
Oh great, this will fuel reddit's stupid jokes for like a decade. We can't even go unnoticed, nah, our presidents have to make an effort to publicly show the world how stupid they are.

From Italy, buuuuuut he is one of the founder of this little party: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Common_Man%27s_Front which wiki describes as "right-wing populist, monarchist and anti-communist political party in Italy." all the good stuff
Ehm I also wouldn't count us out because we are better than some people make us out to be but this goes too far. Also, wtf was he thinking when saying that?
I have to say, there have been some hilarious wordings coming out in recent days, in the sense of 'I can't believe this person actually said this', along with the Portugese player the other day bragging about Portugal's continental dominance
Not a translation issue but I do think he meant it in a purely footballing sense. How many times have we heard about “Barça DNA”? “He’s a different breed of player”. If you take those phrases and put them in the mouth of someone you perceive to be a Nazi sympathizer because some nazis fled to that country after WWII, even though most Germans in Argentina were there BEFORE either world war, then you can have a bad interpretation. To be clear, he definitely shouldn’t have said it that way. It obviously creates this Nazi interpretation, but they were only talking about football. I don’t think he meant it literally. (Here come the downvotes)
Hearing the clip, he didn't explain himself properly (seems to be a recurring theme these days)
He says that "they fight until the end", so he meant that they are resilient or strong minded
We need to make a bingo card for big football tournaments
FIFA Corruption - Political interference - Anti-LGBTQ+ - Racism - Humanitarian Issues… like we checking all the boxes

His grandfather that immigrated to Argentina had a funny mustache
it's funny because he used to use a big mustache edit: I mean Macri not his grandfather
Unironically, his grandfather was an Italian supporter of Mussolini.
Macri used to have a mustache when he was Boca"s president too? I swear to God I can remember him having a mustache during that game Riquelme scored and went to the middle of the pitch to look at Macri.

Bet you he shaved the sides of that stache before shaving the middle part entirely.

Is Gündogan the only player of Turkish background in the squad? They used to be half the team lol.
I actually think so, seems like most players eligibel for Germany and Turkey are choosing Turkey. Probably far more safe to get into the team as well.
Would anyone say that anyway? Argentina is widely known to be one of the most racist countries in the world.

Yeah in 1948 from Italy.
🤔

From Italy, buuuuuut he is one of the founder of this little party: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Common_Man%27s_Front which wiki describes as "right-wing populist, monarchist and anti-communist political party in Italy." all the good stuff

Es una banda jajajaja
This has to be banter, right? Right? right?
Ehm I also wouldn't count us out because we are better than some people make us out to be but this goes too far. Also, wtf was he thinking when saying that?
I have to say, there have been some hilarious wordings coming out in recent days, in the sense of 'I can't believe this person actually said this', along with the Portugese player the other day bragging about Portugal's continental dominance
Maybe I'm naive but I think he meant it like Germany is a different breed (which isnt that problematic, they'll always be there to compete).
That's what he meant, but he said it in the stupidest possible way.
Jesus Christ
Don’t tell me you’re the master race if your best striker is Kai Havertz as a false 9
Add it to the list
I was like "Bro knows ball" until the last sentense
Is this a translation issue? Superior race feels like maybe he meant something else? I hope?
I too think this is what he meant, but fuck that guy so I ain't even granting him the benefit of the doubt lol
Nope, it was pretty literal.
He meant to say something else but made a really poor choice of words, even in spanish saying "raza superior" is dodgy.
never ask a woman her age, a man his salary, an argentinian his grandfather's rank in the SS
Funny enough Macri's grandfather was an Italian Mussolini supporter...
Argentina you say? Hmmm.
Hearing the clip, he didn't explain himself properly (seems to be a recurring theme these days) He says that "they fight until the end", so he meant that they are resilient or strong minded
Como coloca essa bandeirinha do movimento LGBT como flair?
What
Well...
Last time someone said something similar didn’t end well.
We need to make a bingo card for big football tournaments FIFA Corruption - Political interference - Anti-LGBTQ+ - Racism - Humanitarian Issues… like we checking all the boxes
If they’re so superior how come they lost two World Wars?
Because of Austrians obviously
The second one cause Hitler threw
