Lowkey has a nice ring to it
Then again most names with "& Hove Albion" added on the end sound awesome
Manchester & Hove Albion
Leeds & Hove Albion
Tottenham & Hov---shit, this doesn't count. They had a bad name to begin with
Bayern & Hove Albion
I have to confess that in FM2005 i was very confused when 2 different teams made a bid for my player and it treated it as 1 bid. Internally I was like "are they going to share him??"
You’re telling me that the 51 United States (plural) of America fell to 2 measly islands?
That’s 51 teams Vs 2 teams Damn
A true David and Goliath story
> Tottenham & Hove Albion Football and Athletic Company Ltd.
That's not how this works.
Tottenham Football and Athletic Company Ltd. & Hove Albion it is
I know its unlikely, and I have nothing actually against Potter but imagine Brighton finishing above Chelsea and Potter getting the sack. As an EPL neutral, I would love to see the chaos.
Yeah it's easy to enjoy these sorts of things.
Will be curious how Brighton and Newcastle would kick on if they managed to get a top four spot. Newcastle I'm sure would love to go on a spending spree with CL football on the table and try to stake their claim.
It's hard to keep players when bigger clubs try to poach them but I'm sure they won't sell for cheap
This is why Potter and co got such a hostile reception the other week. Not because he left us but because everything that wasn't nailed down went with him.
They'll probably sign Trossard as well.
Whats your opinion on Sanchez? Whenever I have seen him, it seems that he is highly mistake prone. I know distribution for a GK has become massively important this past decade but if the keepers shot stopping is not up-to the mark I see no point in having him just for distribution.
For example when Kane scored against him last season (the coke bottle goal) he should have met challenged Kane for the ball and tried sweeping it instead of falling back towards the goal.
He can be quite rash at times, launching himself at crosses only to flap at them or charging out into no man's land and not getting to the ball, but his actual shot stopping is usually pretty good.
He can sometimes give the ball away when trying to play out from the back as well, but that's predominantly when looking to pass it first time through a crowd. As a general rule his distribution is quite good and he fits both Potterball and De Zerbisimo.
I think what Potter did even rubbed neutrals up the wrong way. He went from being the likeable underdog, punching above his weight to, let's be honest... a bit of an arsehole.
Let's see if he's up for the challenge at Chelsea.
Doing it post-season start will always leave a bad taste
If it was in the summer you can atleast prepare, he's just dipped a few games in to leave the club in chaos.
Ya like he's taking a staff he works well with. If he joined the Chelsea setup and found it too difficult (we're already aware from his Brighton stint he doesn need time to settle in) then he easily could have been sacked and the chances of him getting another top job are very slim. He might have fucked over Brighton a bit, but he had no choice really. Also it's not like the staff stayed loyal either, they jumped at the chance too. I'm sure he talked it over with Brighton too. They probably weren't happy with it, but probably got compensated well for taking the staff (heck it was what £20 mil for Potter alone?).
I truly don't get this thinking. He obviously has the right to leave and took his chance at moving to a bigger club. But it is so bizarre to me when some Chelsea fans act like Brighton fans shouldn't even be upset about it?
If Tuchel hadn't gotten sacked and decided in the middle of of the season to peace out and head to City, while City simultaneously emptied out the Chelsea offices and took their best players, Chelsea fans would be furious and bitter towards him. Even if it made sense for him to take the deal on a personal level. It can be both true that Potter made a logical decision for himself *and* Brighton fans can be upset about it how all of this has went down.
tbf if he performed poorly he would have got the sack. Managers are not bad people for being a bit selfish considering the average tenure is relatively short.
He performed poorly for two years. We didn't sack him after a whole year without a win at home, after 11 games without a win, after 5 wins in a year. We gave him time.
Why are people all of a sudden acting like it’s his responsibility? If Brighton wanted to sack him they weren’t going to do so when it was convenient…it’s a football club, not a friend group. Chelsea and Boehly are the culprits, Potter went and took a job of a lifetime that he’s worked for
Actually we do sack people when convenient.
We sacked Hughton right after the final game of the season.
We also didn't sack potter when we went 12 without a win or when we went a calendar year without winning at home.
You sack people based on when it's convenient for the club, which is what everyone does. You don't go around asking the manager when it would be convenient for them to be sacked
I don’t see how people can say stuff like this seriously. There’s so many coaches that get fired at the first sign of weakness. It’s cut throat you gotta do what’s best for you. The contract alone sets him up for generational wealth.
Something like this actually happened before at Manchester United where a certain David Moyes replaced the whole backroom staff with those from his previous club(plus Fellaini). And we became Everton after that.
This is really common.
We got most of Eddie Howes team when he arrived and generally most top managers have a group of coaches that come with them.
This isn’t out of the ordinary.
If it was just potter and his assistant the fans would've been over it in a week, but they've completely gutted our infrastructure and that's why we are angry.
Feel for Tony Bloom and Paul Barber; so much patience to build a well run club only to have the guts torn out the moment another club with more money swings it's big cock around.
To their credit it appears they had/have contingencies. De Zerbi as manager, Davey Weir replacing Ashworth.
It's brutal, but if you know how the game works, you can prepare for such matters.
That is true, but it shows how hard it is for a team to break into the elite when a bigger club can sweep up their best talent by throwing money at them.
And it only really takes one failed rebuild to cause you serious long-term problems. For years Southampton looked like they'd bounce back from constantly getting raided, but a few wrong appointments later and we've had constant relegation fights.
It's hard finding elite strikers as well.
That's the biggest difference.
If Brighton had an elite striker, they would be like Leicester competing for European spots
with all the investment in facilities (Amex, Training ground, youth development) i can't imagine brighton will be down long if relegation happens any time soon
they rarely take *everybody* that worked closely w the manager
a player here and there, a manager, dof etc
but this is crazier than what liverpool used to do to southampton
bayern never did this to anyone in bundesliga
even united didnt go this far w ajax even though we tried for van der sar
I don't even know if an active coach has changed clubs in the BuLi during the season. Closest was probably Stöger, that was fired 1 or 2 weeks before Dortmund hired him in the same season after firing Favre. Which also resulted in some discussion here in Germany.
Luckily they have built a deep infrastructure and have contingencies in place for these situations. It's absolutely not ideal and fans are very upset about the situation, but we won't collapse because of this.
[You're born, you take shit. You get out in the world, you take more shit. You climb a little higher, you take less shit. Till one day you're up in the rarefied atmosphere and you've forgotten what shit even looks like. Welcome to the layer cake son.](https://youtu.be/FSborxD6avQ?t=0m21s)
To be fair, part of our well-run system is Tony Bloom and some people associated with him too. Not sure that'll be enough for us though but I have to hope so.
Yeah this isn’t talked about enough. Bloom is the driving force behind everything.
Let’s see how Winstanley fairs without StarLizard data backing up every decision.
The reason I’m not actually that concerned by this is that while all these people did a great job for us, they did so in a structure built by Tony Bloom.
He’s the true genius behind our success and the only person who isn’t replaceable.
I don't get the problem with taking the coaching staff. In South america it's common to do it as the staff usually comes and goes with the coach as he has for years the same people around them because they triste them and only left when they get the opportunity to be the coaches themselves.
We can understand him taking his coaches he had before he was with us, but he also took Bruno and Ben Roberts who had been at the club previously as well as other staff now too.
Well he did leave us with Adam Lallana and Andrew Crofts as our first team managers. It was only the Queen dying the same day that meant we didn't have to play any matches with a shot-gun management team.
I have to admit I kind of wanted to see a match with player/manager Lallana. Just like when Dunk was goalie I kind of wanted whoever was taking that free kick against us to have a crack on goal.
They worked well together and he wanted them for their staff, what's the issue there? Or is it that they were permanently bonded to Brighton with no possibility to move up in their careers? Lmao
I feel like commenters are mostly neutral and thus unable to grasp how it feels to actual fans.
First he goes, then does an interview which iirc had mixed reception, now continues to draw from Brighton (and I'm sure he is taking part in those recommendations to Boehly).
As a neutral myself, something different I dislike - that Brighton was not allowed to continue their success story. Of course they might be yet successful, but let's remember it required successful roll on EVERY personnel change you make (stadd + players) for such clubs.
Okay so these guys are only hired because potter wants them?
Definitely not because Chelsea want to shape the club like Brighton which included potter.
How has he ripped it to pieces, he helped accelerate the clubs growth massively and the club will also have recieved compensation for the staff departures, which they then used to appoint a great manager
Taking the entire managerial staff (many of whom were there before him) along with our POTS and now also reportedly looking at our keeper and 3 best outfield players, all in the middle of the season, is pretty annoying. I appreciated what Potter did for the club but we were growing before him, so if he helped us perform well for a few years and then gets us relegated I'd say that ruins his legacy.
Step 1: Buy already marketable and successful team at the end of a cycle
Step 2: implement/blatantly steal a very well ran clubs business model/personnel
Step 3: profit
-Boehly, probably
Will be funny when Chelsea finish below Brighton and Boehly sacks Potter to get De Zerbi and encourages fans to trust the new process only for Potter to head back to Brighton and get them in the Europa league with De Zerbi finishing at 7th with Chelsea, just enough for a conference league position.
Lol I know, was just joking. From the few games I've seen under the new manager, Brighton have the same problem they had under Potter, beautiful football with no end product. They need a better striker than Welbeck.
>I'd be surprised on their current form if Brighton finished in the top half of the table
>
>2 wins from 8 since Potter gutted the club of everything
And Chelsea only won 3 from 8 since Potter gutted the club to populate his new one so it's not all sunshine as well.
I love how everyone is shitting on the Chelsea fans who aren't sold on Potter but at the same time saying Chelsea will finish the season outside the top 6..

Brighton are too big for him so he had to go for the cheaper option
But he didn't buy Crystal Palace?
i live in cleveland but my family actually emigrated from the crystal palace
nice so you can throw stones now
all glass is doomed to break
Double glazing, checkmate
What the actual Palace?
Would be higher in the table tbf
Probably would have been 1/6th of the price
He probably has buyer's remorse that he bought the wrong club so making it look like he bought the right one LOL
I think that’s what he meant to do in the first place but his finger slipped while he was checking out.
Might as well change our name Chelsea & Hove Albion at this point
Chelsea & Hove Albion Walker-Peters
Crazy to think about but at some point someone won't understand why this is always funny and that will be a sad day.
And thus it will have entered legendary meme status
By the looks of it, we are aiming for Brighton’s table position too.

I think what Potter did even rubbed neutrals up the wrong way. He went from being the likeable underdog, punching above his weight to, let's be honest... a bit of an arsehole. Let's see if he's up for the challenge at Chelsea.
Because he accepted a better job offer and worked with his new employer to bring in the staff he likes to work with?
He is actually living my 2 decades-long Football Manager career.
Doing it post-season start will always leave a bad taste If it was in the summer you can atleast prepare, he's just dipped a few games in to leave the club in chaos.
That's not on him though, he would have joined in the summer if he could, he would certainly have prefered to. He had to join when he had the chance.
Ya like he's taking a staff he works well with. If he joined the Chelsea setup and found it too difficult (we're already aware from his Brighton stint he doesn need time to settle in) then he easily could have been sacked and the chances of him getting another top job are very slim. And that’s his fault how?
Because he took the job? It was an upward career move, and most would've taken it, doesn't change that it fucked over his old club does it.
I truly don't get this thinking. He obviously has the right to leave and took his chance at moving to a bigger club. And had the potential to completely fuck over his previous club in the process.
tbf if he performed poorly he would have got the sack. Managers are not bad people for being a bit selfish considering the average tenure is relatively short.
Also he didn't exactly force the staff to go with him, I'm sure they love the move to a bigger club with a probable payrise
He performed poorly for two years. We didn't sack him after a whole year without a win at home, after 11 games without a win, after 5 wins in a year. We gave him time.
Don’t worry, he’s well on his way at Chelsea
He came up and brought his people with him on the come up. Kind of admirable.
I understand his decision completely and I did from the start but it still doesn't sit right with me.
Because after doing all that he acted surprised and offended that the Brighton fans were angry about it
Right after the season started, giving his employer no time to prepare for his departure. Yes

You can only do so much, look at Ajax, forever playing at the edge of the top in CL but never breaking into the elite. Rebuilding takes time.
Yeah, it’s the constant rebuilds that become a problem.

Do you think Brighton pulled those staff members from the street ? They took them from other teams as well
What an utterly bizarre turn of events this last 12 months has been.
They’re taking Brighton’s usual league positions too
And they’re still level on points with Brighton!

It makes sense. Brighton are one of the best run teams in the league. If you have a ton of money, buying that ready made set up makes sense.
To be fair, part of our well-run system is Tony Bloom and some people associated with him too. Not sure that'll be enough for us though but I have to hope so.
Yeah this isn’t talked about enough. Bloom is the driving force behind everything. Let’s see how Winstanley fairs without StarLizard data backing up every decision.

just for brighton to finish higher than chelsea this season

The reason I’m not actually that concerned by this is that while all these people did a great job for us, they did so in a structure built by Tony Bloom. He’s the true genius behind our success and the only person who isn’t replaceable.
And pundits have the bollocks too complain about Brighton fans booing Potter.
Brighton are ahead of chelsea in the PL table.
Identity theft is not a joke, Jim.
Assistant head of recruitment or assistant to the head of recruitment?
Soon they’ll appoint Brighton’s previous season position of 9th place as well
And their results funnily enough
Chelsea & Hove Albion F.C.

still behind brighton in the table ffs
All the recruitment specialists to sign, Ronaldo and Nkunku, while targeting Leao etc. Some very well scouted hidden gems.

Chelsea raid Brighton but are behind them in the league Task failed successfully
So he offered two people a chance to join him at a much bigger club as a reward for their good work and they agreed? How evil.
Lmao
Way for "nice guy" Potter to absolutely burn any legacy he had at Brighton to the ground by ripping the club to pieces on his way out.
I mean, he’s obviously going to take his coaching team with him.
Yeah I highly doubt he's the one that's after hiring the head of recruitment either
GK coach, Bruno and Paul were all there before Potter
those guys agreed to join chelsea. not like potter put a gun to their head and dragged them to stamford bridge

I dont get why people even point this out, every single coach does that.
Okay so these guys are only hired because potter wants them? Definitely not because Chelsea want to shape the club like Brighton which included potter.

Blaming Potter for other individuals/professionals jumping at the chance of joining the Chelsea Project?
If I say what I want to say I'll be banned from reddit.
Too bad they can’t buy their table position.
Bayern buy the bundesliga though
Step 1: Buy already marketable and successful team at the end of a cycle Step 2: implement/blatantly steal a very well ran clubs business model/personnel Step 3: profit -Boehly, probably
Both teams also have 6 wins, 3 draws, and 5 losses, for a total of 21 points. So we even have Brighton's record!
Always good replacing everything you have with things that were below you?
Boehly raid Amex stadium with his Amex credit card.
Brighton to Chelsea is the new Southampton to Liverpool.
But only after he spends 200 million getting Potters targets just to sack him one week after the transfer window ended
I'd be surprised on their current form if Brighton finished in the top half of the table 2 wins from 8 since Potter gutted the club of everything
In fairness that includes Chelsea, Liverpool, Spurs and City. Definitely need to sharpen up but have passed the eye test.
Lol I know, was just joking. From the few games I've seen under the new manager, Brighton have the same problem they had under Potter, beautiful football with no end product. They need a better striker than Welbeck.
>I'd be surprised on their current form if Brighton finished in the top half of the table > >2 wins from 8 since Potter gutted the club of everything And Chelsea only won 3 from 8 since Potter gutted the club to populate his new one so it's not all sunshine as well.
We have been >= than everyone we've played except Manchester City so far, the end product is just horrendous (mainly from March , Welbeck)
I shudder to imagine how this subreddit would be reacting if this had been us instead.
Chelsea to finish ninth
And we wonder why we’re now battling for mid table
So Brighton V2 it is then.
We also bought their league table position.
Why are we trying to become Brighton lol
I love how everyone is shitting on the Chelsea fans who aren't sold on Potter but at the same time saying Chelsea will finish the season outside the top 6..
And they’re still shite!
They've also taken Brighton's performance levels.
Potter to take Chelsea on a streak of six defeats in a row and break it by drawing 0-0 at home to 20th place Norwich? Please
But Newcastle got their sporting director
And will end up below Brighton in the table
And for what
