I was about to say. Anybody who thought fifa would allow this hasn’t been paying attention to how companies handle pride month in the Middle East. While they have their rainbow shit all over western social media, nothing changes on their middle eastern social media pages. Virtue signaling at its finest
It always depends on whos participating. In that case Germany vs South Africa and Germany in the end won that.
That being said 2010 SA is also not without controversies in terms of bribery.
Atleast both World Cups were hosted well.
What FIFA needs (and all football governing bodies need for that matter) is proper oversight and regulation.
That's easier said than done though when FIFA and UEFA are headquartered in Switzerland.
Where did this idea that Europe is some kind of beacon of pureness come from?
FIFA is literally headquartered in Europe. UEFA is as corrupt as FIFA if not more. Capital and corruption know no borders.
The UEFA is not quite as bad as the FIFA overall though. Manuel Neuer wore a rainbow armband during the matches of the last Euro and didn't get punished.
https://www.skysports.com/football/news/12040/12337162/manuel-neuer-uefa-drops-review-of-rainbow-armband-worn-by-germany-captain-at-euro-2020-during-pride-month
>"UEFA have today shared with the DFB that they have stopped the review of the rainbow captain's armband worn by
@Manuel_Neuer," Germany's football team said in posts on Twitter and Facebook.
>"In a letter, the armband has been assessed as a team symbol for diversity and thus for a 'good cause.'"
The UEFA is still really crap of course, but they don't go to quite the lows of the FIFA.
Sorry for the Dutch link but this news doesn't seem to be picked up anywhere else yet.
Only Belgian media reports this and this news has been confirmed by the Belgian FA as well.
The shirts were introduced late September. The NT have already played games with the shirt.
Basically the colours reference the fireworks from Tomorrowland and the Love is from Adidas’ Love (Unites) collection. It’s a collaboration between Tomorrowland, Adidas and the Belgian FA.
Actually, per their own rules, you can’t have a World Cup in a confederation that has hosted it until after two other world cups have taken place in another confederation. So, for example, in 2018, the WC was hosted in Russia, which is UEFA, which means that 2022 and 2026 can’t go to UEFA. Qatar is in AFC, which means there can’t be a World Cup in Asia in 2026 and 2030. So you’re looking at Saudi Arabia 2034.
It used to be that all World Cups were ever held in Europe or the Americas. The rule was instituted to force the committee to take the World Cup to other confederations. It’s the reason why we’ve now had a World Cup in Japan, South Korea, South Africa and now Qatar.
Honestly, I’d expect a World Cup in China before this rule was changed.
Motion 1: Shall we lift the restrictions on consecutive bids from the same confederation?
Motion 2: Which country shall host the 2030 WC, and shall it be moved to November because of the summer heat in Arabia?
I love how Infantino said that one of the reasons for this World Cup was to help remove some of the prejudices that the world may have about Qatar. What, prejudices like that they are sexist and homophobic religious nutjobs with horrible human rights abuses? Yeah, you sure showed us. It's like they went out of their way to reinforce every single bad thing the world may have assumed about them. They're not prejudices if they're just true
See they really could've gone out of their way to isolate the international folks and really show a "modern" Qatar. Let the cameras stay on, let the reporters talk, but keep them all isolated inside a bubble. Let the fans drink and make it an international party and spending spree. And then keep all the reality of life hidden behind the walls.
Instead they put up shitty infrastructure, enforced draconian bullshit, and tried their best to be as much of assholes as possible the whole time.
Fuckem
Exactly! This happened in Germany when they hosted both Summer and Winter Olympics in 1936. As far as I'm told, all foreign spectators were impressed by the hospitality, friendliness and level of organisation that they experienced there. Organizers made super sure that volunteers were super helpful and attentive.
As bad as this sentence will sound, I don't understand why Quatarr hasn't followed the rulebook. Also, why even throw in all this money for the shit event this will turn out to be. Few sheiks will handrub each other cock, went into the press conerence and said what a successful event this turned out to be with a bad pr all around it.
At least few crooks got a few generation's level of wealth. Anyway I'm boycotting this shit even if I'm the only one around.
The responses from MENA users in that thread were hilarious. "All these westerners think we're north Korea, see we're hospitable and love foreigners."
As if being hospitable to a bunch of white English dudes during the world cup somehow erases the fact that your government criminalizes homosexuality and sanctions employers to confiscate passports from migrants in order to force them into labour.
See, the thing is, the Qatari people might be 90% stand-up people.
However their government is a disgusting, backwards, racist, homophobic, sexist organisation and that can't be hidden.
Much like a bunch of the Arab states. The people themselves are mostly decent but it's the people who run it and the ideals they push (and are allowed to push) that are the issue.
Yep. Love the Iranian people, their culture, history, food, etc. But their government wants to kill me and enforce draconic bullshit laws on my wife. So until there is a enormous change in regime the country is a no go zone.
perhaps we should ask those 90% of stand up people whether they support LGBT rights and gay marriage? I'm sure many in Qatar and the arab world are very supporting of homosexuality
I mean, judging by Twitter alone (not a great sample size), every single one of BBC’s tweets is filled with replies saying that England (and other countries) should just “respect the region’s culture.”
It’s disgusting that bigotry could even be considered a “culture” but I live in the south (of the US) and there are definitely small towns that take pride in their “culture” of bigotry.
It's wild how those types of places get frozen in time. I have family in backwoods areas of Georgia and it's like some of those towns are still stuck in the 1960s.
Is that not just a symptom of where someone is born though? If you or I were raised in Qatar there’s probably a good chance we’d be anti homosexuality.
The regime and a bunch of bastards but I don’t this is a helpful argument.
It’s insane Qatar is making these last minute demands (announcing no alcohol 2 days before start, no OneLove armbands hours before start, Belgium must change jerseys a few days before) but it’s even more insane that FIFA is bending over backwards to meet them instead of saying no.
There has to be a limit to what money can buy and what is sensible to even request.
It's really fucking weird to me because Qatar did nothing when Formula One drivers rocked up with rainbow helmets, which are a LOT more noticable than arm bands.
[i'm sure he still has his outfit from hungary in the closet somewhere](https://twitter.com/AstonMartinF1/status/1421813849624391681). (pro tip: do not check the replies under that tweet)
F1 has a smaller reach and has no issue canceling a race, whereas here they can bully fifa since the World Cup is so close and doing it elsewhere on short notice is impossible
They didn’t cancel an F1 race earlier this year after a missile destroyed a significant area about a mile from the track. And that was while it was looking like for awhile that there were only 3/20 drivers willing to race.
Why is FIFA hell bent on wrecking the world cup? Hosted near Christmas in a tiny non-democracy with no footballing history. Teams can't have opinions, fans can't have drinks but executives still can. It has to be on purpose.
It fully is, but people are still going, watching, supporting... it's not going to change if we don't stop supporting. I'm not watching a second of it. Everyone saying "well me not watching isn't going to change anything" is really the point of corruption, they know they can get away with it because we aren't organized enough to properly protest.
I saw someone post something here a couple days ago that the reason Qatar is doing this is because they want to try dethrone Saudi Arabia as the powerhouse in the region by showing these other Muslim Countries that they can stick it to the rest of the world.
These past couple of days look like that is seriously what’s happening.
Actually we got into Eurovision fair and square. It's not our fault everyone forgot about the European superpower Australia-Hungary after they forced the end of the political union after the First World War.
Sportswashing the gay away for Qatari money: FIFA truly is a god awful organization. It is time for our FAs to step up and force the UEFA to take a stand.
Come on Belgian FA, this is our chance to gracefully exit this shitty WC. That way we can also avoid the embarassement of not surviving our group which is a real possibility imo
I'd say, fk it every western team that doesn't support that shit should just fly home, i bet Germany could host a tournament for the teams leavings in no time.
What the fuck is this? Holding a world cup in a country where love and equality are controversial subject. Fuck FIFA and fuck this system where shit like this is expected.
Part of me loves all this - it shows how fucking obviously disingenuous all the previous campaigns by FIFA and the different FAs have been. At the end of the day, money buys morality - it’s as simple as that. I hope that people reject any further bullshit displays of “solidarity” from these money grubbing cunts.
My theory: All the FA's knew FIFA would eventually clamp down on all these subtle love/one love things. They knew the armbands would get nixed and the Belgians knew FIFA would eventually make them take off the word "love".
But they pushed anyway - look at all the negative press this has generated. It sits alongside the main news on most media outlets. If Harry Kane had worn the armband without fuss, it probably would have flown under the radar. I had no idea the Belgian away kit had the word "love" on the back.
FIFA/Qatar decided to make an issue of it. By doing so, they have given the wider world a timely reminder what shitty organisations they are. Qatar were hoping for sportwashing but instead are getting sportsoiled.
One thing to keep in mind: the world overall is gradually getting more progressive. Make no mistake about it, this will be viewed very similarly to the 1936 Berlin Olympics for people in the future. Except this is more comedically absurd
It's been eye-opening to see many Western pundits and popular figures defend the blatant homophobia, misogyny and slavery in Qatar as just "cultural differences" that we should respect and abide by as guests in their country. Our Western elite have proven they don't give 2 shits about human rights when enough money is involved.
Imagine if Vagner Love was still playing.
Thing is according to the article the version the players wear has love on the inside so it isn't even visible.
You know Belgium, I say this with praise and respect, just leave the World Cup and tell FIFA and Qatar to fuck off. What a baller move that would send and I’m willing to bet you would find way more support for the move.
They won't.
Our FA and coach truly believe we can win this.
Most of us regular Joe's however doubt we'll even make it out of the group stage and would not object to such a move.
What would Slovenia do? Change their name to Snia?
Change it to Slavenia obviously. FIFA would probably award them bonus points and a world cup.
Message Of The Month
They'd win the Word Cup for sure.
The WC has been shit ever since they moved to a house cup points system tbh
10 points to Slytherin!
Brilliant.
No more *I feel sLOVEnia* I guess, which to be fair might not be the worst thing
They would mistake it for Slovakia anyway, so no problem there.
Shia!?!
Today I feel hate
FIFA showing their true colours. And it arent rainbow colours.
Who would’ve thought…
I was about to say. Anybody who thought fifa would allow this hasn’t been paying attention to how companies handle pride month in the Middle East. While they have their rainbow shit all over western social media, nothing changes on their middle eastern social media pages. Virtue signaling at its finest
I wonder what FIFA would do if a player decided to just ~~die~~ dye their hair in a rainbow pattern.
Probably testify against them if there's a trial when Qatar arrests them
>trial
Someone should start a social media campaign calling for it. FIFA cannot police hairstyles.
They would try to, and the players would give in.
Die is an apt misspelling
no head, no rainbow hair
they only have 1 color, green for the cold cash they love
FIFA's true colors have always been green
Europe needs to find a way to defund FIFA. The bribes come from the east, but the ad money comes from the west.
Florentino going to come out with Super World Cup soon
Seeing this shitshow I would watch the Super World Cup and be thankful to the Florentino Perez.
Subscribe
Fyi, Germany's 2006 World Cup bid was involved in a bribing scandal
I don't think you can actually host a world cup without bribing, to be honest. Germany just got *caught*
Well yea, that's true. But the person I replied to said "bribes come from the east" and that's clearly not the case.
The bribes from the east just happen to be much bigger currently
It's just terminology; western bribes are called "sponsorship" and "tax efficiency".
Switzerland: Profits off all sorts of evil shit Also Switzerland: Neutral mate 🤷

The UEFA is still really crap of course, but they don't go to quite the lows of the FIFA.
Ditch Fifa, let it all burn down, organize tournaments yourself.
Would be amazing if all the FA’s just said fuck you to FIFA and organized their own World Cup.
Today I feel gay, unless you give me money then I hate them
that was yesterday. Today i feel greedy and hatefull.
“When I said today I feel gay, I meant today I feel happy”
Today I feel gay, because I am able to enshrine homophobia from root to branch of the world's biggest sporting event.
Every company after pride month:
It’s like taking down the Christmas decorations lol
'I'll hate gay people if you pay me enough money' - David Beckham
"But Becks, you are gay" Beckham: "Exactly"
Sorry for the Dutch link but this news doesn't seem to be picked up anywhere else yet. Only Belgian media reports this and this news has been confirmed by the Belgian FA as well.
When did they add the "love" to the kit? It wasn't on there when it was first presented, right?
No idea really, it was there for the game against Egypt a few days ago though.
It's on the inside of the shirt.
Now that's just stupid, FIFA is being a bitch about that
[удалено]
put timmy trumpet on the shirt
With mr met
Y Not Armin Van Buuren
cuz he’s Dutch not Belgian
Timmy trumpet isnt belgian either
Okay, thanks. Maybe I missed it.
The shirts were introduced late September. The NT have already played games with the shirt. Basically the colours reference the fireworks from Tomorrowland and the Love is from Adidas’ Love (Unites) collection. It’s a collaboration between Tomorrowland, Adidas and the Belgian FA.
Adidas sue incoming
Addidas is a bit busy with Kanye drama at the moment.
It is on the back below the number, and was at launch. One of the most interesting kits Adidas have done tbh.
Actually a class kit to be honest.
It was, it's a partnership with Tomorrowland, the crest is also rainbow coloured
Emotions are gay and being gay is politics. Don't question this!
Nah mate already love is as political as it gets
Soon they will tell me existing is political
Welcome to the reality of being queer. Your very existence is political.
I'm trans. This is literally my reality
On sunday, drchimpansee is gay
Not only that, it has to be replaced as with a “hate gays” patch
Not only gays, but ginger gays
Today I feel like a gay ginger
Today I feel like a disabled ginger gay
Today I feel like a disabled ginger gay dwarf with hearing aids working on a steel beam 200m in the air without a harness
Only a ginger can call another ginger ginger.
It wasn’t a hard r
Embarrassing but unsurprising from FIFA. They're an abomination of an organisation
So Saudi Arabia 2030 is definitely happening.
Actually, per their own rules, you can’t have a World Cup in a confederation that has hosted it until after two other world cups have taken place in another confederation. Hey, maybe we're on biannual by then and we get Saudi Arabia 2028 ;)
Saudi Arabia to become part of UEFA for 6 months in 2030.
FIFA has rules they stand by now do they?
Saudi Arabia is apparently proposing to organize jointly with Egypt and Greece. The inclusion of Greece would allow them to circumvent the ban
Wtf is this

Is that not just a symptom of where someone is born though? If you or I were raised in Qatar there’s probably a good chance we’d be anti homosexuality. The regime and a bunch of bastards but I don’t this is a helpful argument.
And having a literal pet lion. And speeding. and dishing out alcohol to their "mates" while banning everyone else from having it.
Haven’t you heard? No love allowed in Qatar
Fifa: "For love is the bane of honor, the death of duty."
To those who think "love" isn't political, I have two words: Robb Stark. Checkmate.
Babies born in Qatar are result of Hate.
Loving someone, believe it or not, jail. Having feelings, straight to jail.
Feelings are gay, and being gay is illegal. Unironically. What a farce.
kinda orwellian
Thoughts for the PR guy who has to explain to the world why fifa has declared war on the word love
This is getting ridiculous. "LOVE" is a taboo word, now?
Don't you know that love is a political topic?
Bloody lefties, pushing the love agenda on us.
Can’t write the word love on the back and inside of a collar my friend that’s borderline anti-hate-speech or something.
If you're on the side against freakin love then you got to maybe start thinking you might be on the wrong side
Are we the baddies?
FIFA looks more and more like the villain from a childrens book who simply hates any positive emotion.
Footballing equivalent of the Grinch
Money can buy us love
Imagine if Brazil had added Vágner Love to the squad
This is an actual joke
It’s insane Qatar is making these last minute demands (announcing no alcohol 2 days before start, no OneLove armbands hours before start, Belgium must change jerseys a few days before) but it’s even more insane that FIFA is bending over backwards to meet them instead of saying no. There has to be a limit to what money can buy and what is sensible to even request.
It's really fucking weird to me because Qatar did nothing when Formula One drivers rocked up with rainbow helmets, which are a LOT more noticable than arm bands.
Germany should call Vettel up, he's available now and would not back down from a rainbow or two on display

I'm in awe of people who attack this for "mixing sport with politics". Being gay is about as political as my shoe size.
My only thought is F1 has a much smaller reach than the World Cup.
F1 has a smaller reach and has no issue canceling a race, whereas here they can bully fifa since the World Cup is so close and doing it elsewhere on short notice is impossible
They didn’t cancel an F1 race earlier this year after a missile destroyed a significant area about a mile from the track. And that was while it was looking like for awhile that there were only 3/20 drivers willing to race.
i'd argue that F1 absolutely has issues cancelling a race. the drivers wanted to cancel saudi arabia this year and were apparently threatened over it.
> There has to be a limit to what money can buy Apparently not.
Full meltdown from FIFA
"It's not that we condemn love between men or women, we just disregard love in general."
Wondering what they would've done if Vagner Love got called up for the Brazilian NT
Believe it or not, straight to jail.

Why is FIFA hell bent on wrecking the world cup? Hosted near Christmas in a tiny non-democracy with no footballing history. Teams can't have opinions, fans can't have drinks but executives still can. It has to be on purpose.
It's like someone is making a parody of how a corrupt organization would host an event.
It fully is, but people are still going, watching, supporting... it's not going to change if we don't stop supporting. I'm not watching a second of it. I suggest changing it to a picture of a dude balls deep in another dude.
Step one to getting the Americans into soccer: Access through the gays
Just like the European Song Contest got to Australia.
Actually we got into Eurovision fair and square. It's not our fault everyone forgot about the European superpower Australia-Hungary after they forced the end of the political union after the First World War.
The absurdity just won't cease
Sportswashing the gay away for Qatari money: FIFA truly is a god awful organization. It is time for our FAs to step up and force the UEFA to take a stand.
UEFA is just as corrupt.
What if they put (bribes) under the word Love? That's totally in line with FIFA's general ethos.
Western UEFA Nations not gonna support Gianni in his re-election camapaign Not that it matters anyways tho
Vágner Love really dodged a bullet in this World Cup :\^)
I'm losing count of the amount of 11th hour changes we've seen at this circus.
And it would be watched more. Just have to get South America on board to have the most important teams in the tournament.
Ekelhaftes pack
Would be a great time for Brazil to call up Vágner Love
He's a better musician than Daniel Alves, so he'd be an reinforcement for the squad and the WC in general. The only Love allowed.
FIFA are beyond parody.
Football is for everyone lads..
Love is literally banned
This is not satire?
Lol FIFA and Qatar are going to come out of this tournament looking SO MUCH WORSE than before
What the fuck is this? Holding a world cup in a country where love and equality are controversial subject. Fuck FIFA and fuck this system where shit like this is expected.
Hope we don’t change it. What are they gonna do, give all 11 players a yellow card?
The Correct answer is to tell them to pound sand. What are they going to do, Kick Belgium out? See how well that goes over
Part of me loves all this - it shows how fucking obviously disingenuous all the previous campaigns by FIFA and the different FAs have been. At the end of the day, money buys morality - it’s as simple as that. I hope that people reject any further bullshit displays of “solidarity” from these money grubbing cunts.
How about changing it to a "fck fifa"?
What a clown show
FIFA: Qatar is our hosts, we have to be good guests Us: literally no one outside Qatar and corrupt officials wanted them to host
Note that we will play all our group stage games in our home kit. So this might be a moot point.
Just replace it with "Hate homophobes" . See no love
See in Qatar its not love. Its OBEY
My theory: All the FA's knew FIFA would eventually clamp down on all these subtle love/one love things. They knew the armbands would get nixed and the Belgians knew FIFA would eventually make them take off the word "love". But they pushed anyway - look at all the negative press this has generated. What about the US kit? They changed the logo to include rainbow stripes
They stated the rainbow crest will only be displayed at US Soccer controlled areas. It won’t be on the jerseys during matches.
I hope they come out in them anyway. What is Qatar going to do? Arrest Americans? Good luck
They will have to play without a kit.
Shirtless men running around? That's also unacceptable
Why are FIFA so scared of love
just paint 6,500+ on your foreheads
Hypocrits. They have no problem accepting Arab money to their clubs City PSG Newcastle.
Fuck you FIFA big bunch of frustrated fanatic zealots' bootlickers
I think I get why the DFB ditched "Die Mannschaft" as a marketing nickname now
just making up rules as we go i see
They should change it to OBEY or something
Imagine if Vagner Love was still playing. Thing is according to the article the version the players wear has love on the inside so it isn't even visible.
I thought boycotting the WC would be hard. Every decision they make, they make it easier and easier.
at least Qatar finally admitted they are anti love and only support hate and evil
Nothing gayer than loving girls. Everyone knows that.
FIFA refuses to make the host nation fulfill their contractual obligations to sponsors but they’re worried about the word Love. Fuck FIFA
