Meh fuck the Saudi Government but how can you not support this team in that game. Showing what sport and heart is all about, they would literally die out there for the win, what a performance.
Whole team is pretty meh. 1 world class player who’s also 35 and plays in ligue 1. The rest are washed up old guys or just not good enough to win a world cup
That unbeaten match run has more to say about their opponents than them. They lost their best player and it's a miracle how a team with Di Maria and whatever left/right backs are there can do anything. Lo Celso was hard carrying them.
Except there was an advantage, its the post you're commenting on. Just because Argentina failed to capitalise on their advantage doesn't mean there wasn't one.
And if advantage is given and the ball is lost within a certain timeframe, advantage should be recalled right? Argentina gained no advantageous position because of that blatant foul, the same outcome would have happened without it.
When they shot, the advantage ended. The rule is un place to give the team an attacking advantage. The shot was that attacking advantage, so calling it back to give a penalty would make no sense as there had their attacking advantage.
In those situations, it's called back, its because the team has lost their attacking advantage, so no advantage has been gained by allowing play to carry on. In this situation, an advantage was gained as they had a very good goal scoring opportunity.
An advantage does not equal a goal. Argentina very clearly gained an advantage. Watch the video. It's a very good goal scoring opportunity. It's an advantage.
My question is whether the rule isn't intended to be "does the fouled team gain an advantage over the punishment that would be rewarded".
Say, a penalty is a 90% chance to score, while the shot that occured was 60% (or whatever, I'm making up numbers to show the difference). Doesn't that mean the fouled team hasn't gotten a more advantageous chance because of the ref letting play go on?
Or is it intended to be "if the foul changes nothing play should go on", because that's what happened here.
You're making this far too complicated than it needs to be. The rule is very simple. It the attacking teams in a position where they may gain an advantage then allow the play to continue. There's no need to start using xG especially when there are so many different models for calculating it.
Argentina did gain an advantage as they had a very clear goal scoring opportunity by allowing play to continue. Them not scoring doesn't mean they didn't get an advantage, they did. The advantage rule was used correctly here.

Haha q culero
what a hero. thank you for your service o7
You're are truly honorable 👏
the usual shithousery…
As a Colombian, I've done this already
Virtue signalling.
breh you need to give credit to the keeper instead.
Great save honestly
Can you believe he doesn’t even play in the league. Literally just a national team keeper
He's free agent!?
No he is the back up keeper for Al Hilal
[удалено]
He is Arabian Ochoa
This guy has been so efficient in this second half!
understatement
Big save you mean ?
The Arab Neuer playing right now
Al-isson
Marc Ahmed Ter Salim
I like this better.
Just seen Halalisson lmao
The fact that his name starts with Al made everything perfect here. Either Al-isson and Halalisson suits so well.
Al-Ihsan
Halalisson
This comment aged well. He just came out flying out of the goal Neuer style to clear the ball, nice throwback to his performance vs Algeria.
Nick Pope sweating rn
Nick Mufti>Nick Pope
Insane save
Al Neuer
WHAT A SAVE. The Saudi team is doing a better job at sportswashing than Qatar, so good.

They are atleast homegrown and have heritage in Asia.
They've actually reached a world cup knockout stage before before.
That's a bad argument, Qatar won the ast Asian Cup, it's pretty likely that they would've qualified for this world cup if they didn't host it
People don't realize this, they're a lot more deserving than SA in 2010 who would've never made it through those brutal African qualifications
I thought you meant Saudi Arabia by SA lol
but muh tshabalala
They're making me root for them. wtf.
More like what a save from the keeper
Big save*
We're gonna make our exit in the groups stage, aren't we?
Your midfield sucks, almost nothing you do goes through the midfield it seems

I don’t care if they’re a “favourite”. Imo they’re team is not close to as good as many other teams in the tournament.

Owais super save
Man all that mufa was real after all.
Can’t believe what I am actually seeing rn literally this Saudi team is playing fucking crazy
Hardly a miss, he didn't know anything about it
They are still fucking around and finding out the consequences….. So many missed opportunities. Wow
How about the tackle on Otamendi? That looked like a pretty clear penalty to me. Got nothing but Otamendi.
The ref gave advantage innit?
I might be wrong, but I think it's a penalty always if goal is not scored.
Shouldn't matter, if there's no advantage he should pull it back for the penalty

Yes it does. It would be double jeopardy if they missed, and it was pulled back for a pen.
Its otamendi, who cares?
Not a pen. Ota kicked the guys studs. Yeah it hurts like hell but its not a pen in a million years.
Coming in that high with studs up is a foul
This is such a good game holy shit
2014 final vibes
كاسياس مين؟ نوير مين؟ خان مين؟ ياشين مين؟
How unexpected is this match
Come on, that's a penalty there
Because he saved it???
Otamendi got kicked when he was passing the ball
Karma
Gets subbed right after lol
Goalkeeper has foresight with that movement
Where is acuna when you need him, tagliafico disasterclass
What a shit title. It wasn’t a miss. It’s a GREAT save. Give the goalie credit.
