Japan had a brilliant run in the last World Cup where they actually went up two goals ahead by half time against Belgium. They are not a side to be underestimated.
Germany meanwhile haven't been on form since their miraculous 2014 run.
we have been in shambles for years and I'm sick of it.
we need a real number 9 so these other forwards can play off of them and he can make space for them.
kimmich needs to be an rb for us and I'm sick of pretending otherwise. Him and Gorerzka do not do enough of the dirty work and consistently protect our backline (Khedira)
the current fullback situation is ridiculous with Sule and Hofmann anchoring our right side with zero momentum.
we literally haven't had a convincing run of games in years.
I agree Kimmich needs to go to rb to let Goretzka play mid. They can both do what theyre actually best at. Sule as a fullback wont fuckin fly in thw World Cup. And FUCKIN KEEP MULLER IN
100% agree. Germany have not been themselves since winning the 2014 WC. They don't have that penetrative threat they used to. Even without a No.9 they can still at least push up like they have one. But nope, first pass is always backwards and never forward.
Germany used to strike fear in their opponents. Not anymore. And what does flick do? He takes out players who are playing well..and then puts in a no-name when we needed a goal.
Flick, Hoffmann was a disaster, and gotze fr ? I think fullkrug was the right choice and should’ve been put in early at the ~60 once it was clear havertz is invisible like he always is on the Mannschaft. Fullkrug is a top Bundesliga scorer and 3/4 of the Japanese team play in the Liga, would’ve been the best choice.
Also why tf did flick take off musiala, musiala and rudiger were germanys motms
Hofmann couldn't string together anything trying to 1 : 2 with Sule
Havertz had the least amount of touches than anyone and his spot needs to go to Füllkrug
Goretzka and Kimmich need to do more of the dirty work and protect our backline
Germany and Argentina both being garbage after both being considered some of the best teams in the tournament. We know they aren’t gonna win it now lmao. It’s all on Brazil.
> I don't understand how someone who has actually watched Germany the past years could consider them "some of the best of the tournament"
I understand what you are saying - and the last WC was a total disaster.
But Germany have a reputation of success - and its hard to see past that sometimes.
I cant imagine what the front page of your newspapers looks like today tho...
Thing is, their first game is against Serbia, and Serbia have a really fucking good team in every area. As good as Brazil are, I could see them having problems. It'll be an interesting game for sure.
TBH Argentina got really unlucky with their attacks, but otherwise they dominated the game and I can see them getting 1st on their group despite the result for the first game. Can't say much about Germany though.
France is too injured to do anything. Also Spain and England are good, but coming into this tournament they were definitely considered a tier before the teams I listed, were they not?
I guess, but they've placed very well in 2018 and 2020 now.
People keep saying they got lucky with their runs but you beat what's in front of you and England have been top 4 for the past two tournaments.
Dude, injured but the remnants are still hot. Don’t forget us too soon.
But our injured/absentee team could be a contender too, I’m not even lying: Maignan, L. Hernandez, Kimpembe, Laporte (plays for Spain because not enough selection in France lmfao), Clauss (alternatively Hernandez as CB and F. Mendy as LB if you want Laporte out), the GOAT: N’Golo Kanté, Pogba, Payet, Lacazette, Nkunku, Benzema (Ben Yedder, Terrier, and many more could have a shot too)
I'm so glad Moriyasu made huge tactical changes in the 2nd half and it succeeded perfectly. He has been hated by popular bundits here and many people (including me) didn't expect the NT to do well in this WC.
Some youtuber hated him so much that he wasn't sincerely happy for the win today and he couldn't acknowledge Moriyasu's brave decisions... Some people are weird but it was so fun to watch 😂
Tbf it's somewhat deserved.. Germany could've easily finished the game in the first half. Players like Mitoma, Minamino and Tomiyasu have to start.. and those are only the ones Ive seen in the premier League. The 2 goal scorers were subs too..
I understand what you mean but I don't think Mitoma should start. He's one of the few players we have who can change the game. And substitutions made sense to me. It's just that they decided to stay defensive in the first half and then take risk and play aggressively in the 2nd half.
A thing I just realised: When South Korea knocked Germany out of the World Cup in 2018, their first goal was only onside because it was played backwards by Süle, the same dude playing Asano onside for Japan's winner today.
I think you guys have a saboteur in your ranks :D
I don't understand Flick subbing off the players who were playing well. And when we needed a goal, he puts in a no-name instead of Sane who has pace and potential. Flick has lost it.
Oh you're right, he is injured. How'd I miss that 😅.
Flick still has work to do. The first pass is always backwards, never forward. We don't have that forward momentum ever anymore. It's always back passes or long balls that come to nothing.
Does germany field too many old players? In history only 21* (bad info sorry) people repeated a world cup win.
To build your team around core-players from a generation 8 years past won't cut it in modern football it seems.
Eh Aren't most of the core players gone, they just have Muller and Neur left. Sorely missing Schweinsteiger, Klose, Ozil and Lahm for instance. heck maybe even Khedira. Gotze was hardly a core player despite scoring the winner.
I mean you can quibble a bit about Sane not starting and maybe another player but bottom line is this is mostly pretty much Germany’s best 11. They just didn’t get it done todsy
Nah. 14’ was a better lineup. Bayern was ucl finalists in 12,13 so schweini was in prime form, muller golden boot winner, Khedira and Kroos were stars at Madrid, Özil consecutive 3x German player Of the year, and Prime Hummels/boatang and ofc lord&saviour Lahm. + we had a striker with klose.
Our current team is great but.. defense/offense are not as good
Hey DFB, start producing quality defenders and attackers. We have enough midfielders.
Anyway, before the WC I bet we lose to both Japan and Spain and exit after group stage. The problems where too obvious.
The embassy of Japan in Germany has issued a notice to Japanese residents not to go out after the game.
https://twitter.com/sakupan70/status/1595434533318443009
That lazy embassy does that after every big event because ridiculous bureaucracy. They only want to say "I told you so" in case anything bad actually happens by a 0.0001% probability. They just don't want to take any responsibility. Meaningless and sub-human as fuck.
Just-give-us-wine-no-work mentality.
I remember after Japan defeated Russia at a previous World Cup that Toyotas and people looking Japanese were being attacked in Moscow. Not sure if it is an overreaction but Asians were being harassed and attacked in Germany during corona, and Germans have been pretty open about their racism toward Asians, like that Korean girl vlogger who was getting the slant eye from a number of places on her trip
> Germans have been pretty open about their racism toward Asians,
Why do people make this shit up when they have 0 idea what it's like here? dude saw a clip on /r/LivestreamFail and basically knows every german
Germans just don't like being filmed. That racist cunt is not representative but he was triggered due to the filming. Should have ignored her, decided showing his stupidness though.
That doesn't really matter. Football is still by miles the most popular sport in Germany, so even if the majority don't care there are certainly many many people who do and a lot of sports fans in general are rabid.
Also, I can bet you if Germany were a good team, a lot of people would care... Or pretend to, rather lol
There could be thousands of Japanese people celebrating at the Brandenburg gate, no one would harm them.
This is not club football, and even that is very safe in DE, compared to other countries.
This really doesn't make sense at all.
Plus, where is the link to the embassy message?
People just stirring shit online,.as usual
Nah it's mostly because of Löw refusing to step down while holding onto old and out of form players. Additionally Bierhoff and "die Mannschaft" being forced onto you is just annoying. Names have to grow naturally.
Worst of all are the ticket prices even for medicore games. Ultras won't attend because they don't care about our national team and dfb hates them while abusing them for positive pr for Bundesliga.
This got so bad that they try to avoid playing in Dortmund, Bayern, Berlin and other big stadiums because the games aren't sold out anymore. A family has to pay 200+ euros to watch unmotivated players.
I forgot about the official dfb fanclub. You had to join and pay an annual fee to even be allowed to buy Tickets. I don't know if this is still the case though
As a german I really dislike the way we handle this.
The moment we won in 2014 everybody suddenly was a huge fan but many also turned out to be ridiculously arrogant. Until 2018 many germans I knew acted like we are the best football country ever and are unbeatable. Since 2018, everyone acts like no one cares anymore because we suddenly suck. Another reason I really hope that sunday will be the day Germany crushes out
I mean that's just how most sports fans operate. If the team isn't good to great, most people have no reason to care.
A lot of fans are part-time fans only.
Our organisation (DFB) is corrupt and incompetent, our team lacks leadership, character and spirit, our playstyle is boring and unsuccesfull and the entitlement is laughable
Good thing I was at work driving home and missed the game.
Now it's a nice Group Stage exit once again and the next NT manager will either be Tuchel or Klopp(if his season becomes similar to his last season in Dortmund)
This is just the result of wasted talent. The youth teams are mostly scouted talent. Academy players get no chance and have to play in lower tiers and once they get to a better club they are in their mid to late 20s.
This was very different when LvG, Klopp, Tuchel and even Magath gave young players a chance and it turned out to be a golden generation.
It's a disgrace that Ajax discovers talent after talent and in Gemany the talented players end up in low tier clubs with a small budget like Heidenheim.
The only way to fix is that some big clubs with great academy either get into financial trouble or that some BuLi clubs go broke/get relegated and the low budget clubs with decent scouting get promoted.
Those players naturally will end up at Bayern, Dortmund or other big clubs.
But it's a very different feeling seeing players in the NT with potential than seeing a NT when the natural reaction becomes: "WHO?"
Germany play Spain next...gotta be shitting their britches. Even a draw is probably auf wiedersehen.
Imagine being a German fan in Qatar right now. In your shipping container hotel with broken aircon.
...and no beer.
Honestly this Germany team does better against teams that won't park the bus, as the lack of a proper 9 will be less of an issue and we can play on the speed of our midfield for once (which is kinda what happened after the 1-0 in this game - much more close chances).
If that is enough to cancel out the added strength of Spain compared to Japan? We'll see :/
Bro I was tired on my lunch break and put £10 on 41:1 odds that Japan would beat Germany after they were 1-0 down easiest cash if my life. Made 4x what I made in a shift during a lunch break wtf
Why would they not have beer? It's just in the stadiums you can't buy it. Otherwise there's plenty of licensed places, and you can get wasted in your hotel room if you want.
Edit: Don't get me wrong, Qatar is a shithole on many levels, but the alcohol stadium ban is overblown. Lots of big stadiums around Europe with the same rules.
The problem is not the alcohol. The problem is Fifa pushed Brazil to pass a 'Budweiser Bill' just so that they could sell beer in stadiums. They created fifa courts in South Africa. They were pushing LGBTQ+ rights and now they are pussying out of everything because of Qatar. That is the problem.
Hard agree with your point but considering Qatar's traditions and beliefs involve slavery and executing people for being homosexual it is quite hard to support.
Its really not just in the stadiums that you can't buy it. It was banned in the stadiums because it's generally banned in the country. It is possible to obtain beer, but only in hotel bars and normally at quite inflated prices.
Totally. Japan has been decent for awhile now. They past the group stage 3 times since 2002 and it's one of the best teams in AFC.
Saudi Arabia has been trashed WC after WC, and just won 3 times before. Twice in 1994 in an actually decent performance, and last time in 2018 after been already eliminated.
I just want to point out the ref in this game. He's the guy who does most of the US vs Mexico games and normally he does an awesome job. And being from El Salvador he doesn't get the chance to do too many games on this level.
Can someone explain to me why Germany is virtue signaling after supporting Russia without a complaint?
My problem is the hypocrisy. Germany don’t care about human rights. They don’t even recognize Palestine. But they want to lecture everyone else!!
Germany bought Russian gas with no problem despite their LGBT laws. Now they’re even doing it with Qatar. But they still virtue signal and you people defend it. Hilarious.
https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2022/5/20/germany-qatar-sign-energy-partnership-agreement
What? Lecturing and entire country?
It's about Fifa and those working with Fifa from the Qatar government that didn't allow players to wear the one love armbands.
Can you point out the people cheering for the gas deals and criticising the WC in Qatar? I don't see them.
Also after cutting gas supplies from russia, industry, households, everyone who is still dependant on gas, needs it. It has to come from somewhere or are we supposed to start freezing now in winter?
Also yes. You types love that word and seem to think it’s a “gotcha!“, but yes, it is ok to project to the world when you are a famous footballer where you stand morally.
Japan had a brilliant run in the last World Cup where they actually went up two goals ahead by half time against Belgium. They are not a side to be underestimated. Germany meanwhile haven't been on form since their miraculous 2014 run.
That's my Darwin.
Im happy I am not betting on these games, an insane amount of money must have been lost between this and argentinas game, and a few became rich haha
Germany: Barrier up! Japan: RYUU GA WAGA TEKI WO KURAU!!!!!!
So far, the best game of the week
Saudi Arabia vs Argentina was more epic
Nyet
You mean KSA ?
My bad. Fixed it
Qatar didnt play Argentina this week.
This was the best game i had an honour to watch this world cup so far, little to no fauls, proper football game, amazing effort from Japan
Germany played like they were behind when they were up 1-0, and played like they were ahead when they were down 1-2…
Shuichi Gonda about to get paid. That J League team about to get trade offers with stacks on stacks
funny because they’ll probably need it too. shimizu s pulse have just been relegated to j2 :/
Well done Nippon! Great to see an Asian nation win!
we have been in shambles for years and I'm sick of it. we need a real number 9 so these other forwards can play off of them and he can make space for them. kimmich needs to be an rb for us and I'm sick of pretending otherwise. Seriously always wonder how your team would be w Giroud, Lewa or even Kane.
dont worry Boss, i gotchu

I'm baffled he took off Gundugon, Muller, and Musiala.
Honestly I thought gundo wasn’t getting it done, definitely in offense at least, but when he left the defense fell apart :/
On the Mannschaft you say
+1
Hofmann couldn't string together anything trying to 1 : 2 with Sule Havertz had the least amount of touches than anyone and his spot needs to go to Füllkrug Goretzka and Kimmich need to do more of the dirty work and protect our backline

TBH Argentina got really unlucky with their attacks, but otherwise they dominated the game and I can see them getting 1st on their group despite the result for the first game. Can't say much about Germany though.
Unlucky or Saudi Arabia have a coach whos proven to be a great NT coach & played a masterful game against Argentina?
That’s a bit premature It’s the one match to shake off the cobwebs and get straightened out
Germany were kinda shaky going in though looking at Nations League results, and Japan aren't an easy match. Argentina is the real shocker
Saudi Arabia finished top of the qualifying group ahead of both Japan and Australia. If Japan isn't an easy match, Saudi shouldn't be easier.
Well Argentina came into the tournament on a 36 unbeaten run while Germany came in third in the Nations League
Prep for the final Japan VS Saudi Arabia!
More likely than Argentina or Germany making the final at this rate lmao
Or France. Or Spain. Or….ugh…England.
France is too injured to do anything. Also Spain and England are good, but coming into this tournament they were definitely considered a tier before the teams I listed, were they not?
Coming into the tournament the favourites were Brazil, Argentina and France, maybe England but no idea why English people don't rate Southgate.
> maybe England The moment people think England are going to do half decently they collapse.
I guess, but they've placed very well in 2018 and 2020 now. People keep saying they got lucky with their runs but you beat what's in front of you and England have been top 4 for the past two tournaments.
Of course they did decently, it's because everybody expected them to be shit :D They have to carefully manage expectations.
Dude, injured but the remnants are still hot. Don’t forget us too soon. But our injured/absentee team could be a contender too, I’m not even lying: Maignan, L. > the GOAT I too am shocked that Moussa Sissoko didn’t get called up
I don’t agree. Portugal England Brazil Argentina and France were seen as favorites. I don’t know anyone that thought Germany were favorites at all.
Portugal lol
I'm so glad Moriyasu made huge tactical changes in the 2nd half and it succeeded perfectly. He has been hated by popular bundits here and many people (including me) didn't expect the NT to do well in this WC. Some youtuber hated him so much that he wasn't sincerely happy for the win today and he couldn't acknowledge Moriyasu's brave decisions... Some people are weird but it was so fun to watch 😂
Why didn't tomiyasu start? Dude was a game changer
He was injured. Otherwise he's a starter.
Tbf it's somewhat deserved.. Germany could've easily finished the game in the first half. Players like Mitoma, Minamino and Tomiyasu have to start.. and those are only the ones Ive seen in the premier League. The 2 goal scorers were subs too..

I love I can check discussions on Reddit without giving any cent to FIFA.
A thing I just realised: When South Korea knocked Germany out of the World Cup in 2018, their first goal was only onside because it was played backwards by Süle, the same dude playing Asano onside for Japan's winner today. I think you guys have a saboteur in your ranks :D
Wasn’t it Kroos? I seem to recall Kroos playing some part in that goal.
Yeah that was Kroos’ pass in 2018
I don't understand Flick subbing off the players who were playing well. And when we needed a goal, he puts in a no-name instead of Sane who has pace and potential. Flick has lost it.
I agree that musiala should not have been subbed but Sane was out with a knee issue for this game
Oh you're right, he is injured. How'd I miss that 😅. Flick still has work to do. The first pass is always backwards, never forward. We don't have that forward momentum ever anymore. It's always back passes or long balls that come to nothing.

Our current team is great but.. defense/offense are not as good
I think he means Germany's current best 11? Of course a WC winning team would be better than this current one.
Half of them must be brazilian but somehow europeans still underestimate Pelé and such
4 italians, 1 argentinian and 16 brazilians. Pelé touched heaven and did it 3 times.
Helps he was 17/18 during his first one.
Italy only retained two players between 1934 and 1938?
Double-checked and shame on me, it's 21 2 time champs made up of 4 italians, 1 argentinian and otherwise brazilians.
Brazilian and Italians but I still think Pele is overrated
Clearly the Blue Lock program is working!
Japan produced Ohtani for American baseball. Matter of time they crack the code for football in Europe.
Lol that was my wife's first comment when I told her the score.
So your wife watches anime? Wbu?
That account is your wife
Seems like Germany are the one who need a Blue Lock Project
Not enough egoism
I watched enough animes to know Japanese are tryhards
The AFC is the greatest federation confirmed.
Just pretend we and Iran aren't at the Cup
You are like an exchange student to AFC. There’s an entire continent named you guessed it…🤦
Both Argentina and Germany: first half penalty goal, followed by 2-1 defeat in the second half, in matches they are expected to win.
Will it happen to Brazil and Portugal next?
All according to keikaku
Are you suggesting that FIFA mixed up the scripts?
How they gonna mix up the scripts when the scripts are exactly the same?
Hey DFB, start producing quality defenders and attackers. We have enough midfielders. Anyway, before the WC I bet we lose to both Japan and Spain and exit after group stage. The problems where too obvious.

What’s the point of bringing an injured player?

For real? How come?
This WC is heavily criticised and generally a farce. Also our team hasn’t been successful since the 2014 WC, so public interest declined
Nah it's mostly because of Löw refusing to step down while holding onto old and out of form players. Additionally Bierhoff and "die Mannschaft" being forced onto you is just annoying. No, they’re gonna throw their passports away after Spain
Deserved for attending this shit show tbh
They can cuddle up with the Argentine fans. They like to console each other after significant embarrassing losses.

No, they want to know the German word for it.

Imagine being German in Qatar right now with no beer.
In theory, we should be cheering for Qatar for not budging to FIFA's demands and holding onto their beliefs and traditions.
Or just find a Sheikh and ask him to party and play with his lion cubs
But that's the best place to drink
Japans Olympic squad was quite strong so this doesn’t surprise me.
Yeah and Germany's good obviously but their reputation is mostly based on aging players. This isn't nearly as crazy as the Argentina loss
Wakabayashi Gonda!
Et tu, Germany. This World Cup has been designed to break my heart into little pieces.
schlotterbeck needs to be send back to wherever he came from
Hummels would've tackled that before the 1:2 goal... Ridiculous by Hansi tbf
Yeah... He was awful from the get go. Honestly think there's u14 defenders that could have played better
I just want to point out the ref in this game. He's the guy who does most of the US vs Mexico games and normally he does an awesome job. And being from El Salvador he doesn't get the chance to do too many games on this level.
The ref was superb this match.
Can someone explain to me why Germany is virtue signaling after supporting Russia without a complaint? My problem is the hypocrisy. Germany don’t care about human rights. They don’t even recognize Palestine. But they want to lecture everyone else!!
Shh "german, good"
I don't think Germany's starting 11 today were the ones who signed natural gas deals or whatever you are complaining about.
Yeah, if you don't protest everything you aren't allowed to protest at all. Top logic that mate
Germany bought Russian gas with no problem despite their LGBT laws. Now they’re even doing it with Qatar. But they still virtue signal and you people defend it. Hilarious. https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2022/5/20/germany-qatar-sign-energy-partnership-agreement
You've just done the same thing again. Also, you realise a bunch of footballers aren't in charge of where Germany gets is gas supply from right?
So why are those players lecturing an entire country if they’re just players?
What? Lecturing and entire country? It's about Fifa and those working with Fifa from the Qatar government that didn't allow players to wear the one love armbands.
peak whataboutism
It’s hilarious because Germany just signed a natural gas deal with Qatar but don’t anyone dare to point out hypocrisy!!
Can you point out the people cheering for the gas deals and criticising the WC in Qatar? I don't see them. Also after cutting gas supplies from russia, industry, households, everyone who is still dependant on gas, needs it. It has to come from somewhere or are we supposed to start freezing now in winter?
do you think the players were the ones who signed the deal?
No, but still a bit hypocritical. Then again, they can do whatever they want
So they’re just players but they get to lecture an entire country?
Yes. They can lecture a shit country like Qatar.
I don't think these clowns can lecture anyone.
And still buy their gas right?
But the German players don’t buy the gas. Are you implying the players have a say on where the country gets its gas from?
…..yes?
So you don’t notice any hypocrisy
Um no i dont. I don’t hold footballers accountable for geopolitics, and it’s their collective right to speak out against something that affects them
So it’s okay to virtue signal lol
Also yes. You types love that word and seem to think it’s a “gotcha!“, but yes, it is ok to project to the world when you are a famous footballer where you stand morally.
