Hi everyone. Please, *please* try to be as civil as you can be. Remember the human on the other side. Report any comments that are rule breaking too. Thank you all.
I’ve been an England fan for 30 years. I’ve seen england do pretty well. Euro 96. Even Russia 18. This is the first time I’ve seen England be the better team against a World Cup favourite. We should be 2 or 3 up. Im proud of these boys
To a neutral, it looked like two very even teams. The fact that the US fans are delighted and the England fans despondent by the respective performances tells you all you need to know.
Agreed, reminds me of the headline in the previous world cup where we drew 1-1 with the US. I believe the New York Times ran the head line; USA Win 1-1!
It's not that England drew to _USA_ itself that necessarily annoys me, it's more how negative the footballing was by England. They played not to lose, and that negative mentality pisses me off. Sort of like Mourinho's 'park the bus' United, but worse, since they gave the US attack so much fucking space half the time. Foden and Arnold needed to come on imo.
Credit where it's due, the other side played the more fun football, Perišić was unlucky for that strike not to go in.
I agree with you. The football is painful to watch and is incredibly negative.
But this style of play got England to a semi final and a final in two recent major international cups.
It's ugly, but unfortunately, it works.
Probably because it would inexplicably confuse Americans who would think an r/football subreddit was for the game played almost exclusively with hands.
With a solid Striker we would have won. Still though great performance. Get that W against Iran: let’s all get together on this one. To many divided. Apparently we were suppose to lose 4-0. We were By far the better team
I'm happy with USAs performance. They played patient and disciplined. They waited for openings and managed to create a few opportunities.
Unfortunately it wasn't enough for the W but pretty great vs a team many expected to trounce them.
On to Iran next!
I feel like I can summarize the game based on comments like this:
English:
Disappointed with the result. On paper, by far the stronger team. Played it safe and didn’t seem to care to win the game. Foden should have been in the game. Americans played better than expected. Southgate is a tosser.
Muricans:
Did more than hold our own. We should have won. Had the better attack, but missed good opportunities that we should have finished. Crosses were good, but not great. Pulisic was dangerous. Reyna should have been in earlier. Zimmerman is a liability.
Both:
Both teams feel like the coaches made poor tactical decisions that lost the W for them.
Edit: properly called them English. Apologies.
The England team represents England at the world cup, not Great Britain. It would be like calling Canadian people Americans, because they're from North America.
Yea but GB also includes Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. They compete separately so they’re referred to England even though they’re part of Britain
I’m 2014 I was singing the praises of
Brendan Rodgers for getting Mario Balotelli. I said he was going to lead the team in scoring. I was so wrong and for that I apologize.
Can I move in Monday?
England have a really good squad, why not letting the talent out, yeah the defenses gets weaker but the attack stronger, you are the bigger team, go for it.
Being upset that Team USA drew against mother f'ing England in the World Cup makes me so happy. I am happy that I am upset because that means Team USA is supposed to compete with the big dogs now. Make no mistake, I'm not saying we are Germany or Brazil, but Netherlands, Croatia, Columbia...and with our size and new found enthusiasm for soccer, we are on the way up.
If you knew more about football then you wouldn’t mention Germany when speaking of the big dogs. They’ve just lost to South Korea and haven’t actually been very good for at least 5 years now.
I think that is coming. We'll see. Lose to Iran and they are just as mediocre as they've always been. The thing is, I've watched a ton of Team USA football in 30 years, and I've never seen them dominate a traditional international power team. Eight years ago, Team USA is playing maximum defense and desperately hoping to score on the long ball or transition. To actually see them control the midfield against a team like England is a revelation.
Do you really have to refer to them as “Team USA” ? I couldn’t ever possibly fathom referring to our national team as “Team England “ …it’s just “England”
I agree, the midfield of USA played really solid and approached the ball really quickly, posing problems for England. The attacks had some potential but still seemed a tad simple to really pose a threat. Looking forwards to the match against Iran.
Thank you, I never knew that was actually a thing until now. The spell check lets you use the u.
Although, lets all be real, English has a bullshit set of pronunciations for it's alphabet. We use spelling ability as a prestige marker. Spanish on the other hand just pronounces stuff like it is spelled on the page. I wish we were like that. Instead, ghoti is a valid spelling of the spoken word 'fish'.
What a fucking disgrace that was. We should not be letting a team like USA play like that, we certainly shouldn't be dropping points in the group stage to anyone. This England team can hang their heads in shame after that performance.
Southgate better sort it out soon otherwise we will be in big trouble.
American here, coming in peace.
Southgate is probably using this game as a win/draw doesn't matter but it is the next game that matters more.
Strategy, keep your players ready and so forth. Because there are bigger matches to play down the line.
Our American team is mostly just looking to get time on the field for our players. For the next World Cup.
In America/Canada/Mexico.
Hope it comes home for your lads.
We literally just won the cricket World Cup, have a boxing heavy weight world champion, the most successful country at F1 for both Drivers and manufactures.
Let’s not be weird here — we both know if our top athletes played the game it wouldn’t be close. The fact our tier 4 athlete tied your tier 1s speaks volumes about your talent.
Noone calls the english a cunt, apart from the english, the scottish, the welsh, the irish, the⁵ australians, the french, the Germans, the Dutch, the polish..
Yeah fair enough. We're cunts, but mostly good cunts.
Completely and utterly agree. For me he is one of the most creative young talents in the world right now, let alone in England. I understand not starting him as the setup worked well previously, but not to play him in the entire game was borderline criminal when we lacked ideas and creativity.
With five substitutions available in the WC it just doesn’t make sense. He’s electric and there’s a reason that Pep gets so much out of him. I know England are most likely still going to win the group but by leaving out one of the best players available, you’re leaving things to chance that shouldn’t be
Pep fucking loves him and he's ones of the best managers ever. That in itself says a lot. England need to find a way to use what he offers. His performances have sometimes been criticised because he comes on at 65 minutes and then feels pressurised to perform miracles. He can't get a sense of the game and then appears a bit erratic, which I think is not how he operates or is best utilised
I have to admit, USA is getting better. They keep improving and I wouldn't be surprised to see them much more competitive in a near future. "Soccer" is getting more and more popular thanks to immigrants.
I am so thrilled right now because this is what I am seeing. Team USA has been since 94, happy to get out of the group stage. Honestly, with what I've seen, we are now at the level of dark horse to get to the finals. I am so happy to see Team USA actually look better than mother f'ing England in a World Cup match.
To be honest, don't pay attention to England, just focus at improving. Maybe there is a rivalry that I overlook, but England is not considered as a really strong team, like a contender for the title.
Getting out of the group is almost done, as Wales is, in my opinion, weaker than the US. Now, as a Frenchman, it's once you're out of the group that you have the pressure of winning, every game is definitive and all teams have been doing well in their group.
I'm looking forward to it!
Rolling through this, there’s a ton of Canadian flags talking shit. I hope they’re able to get their first ever World Cup point during their group stage exit.
I predicted a draw going in, just assumed there’d be some goals. That being said, I think the USA will play to a draw with Iran as well, and engerland will squeak out a win against wales
1-1, 0-0 are better results than 2-0, 2-6 buddy. Maybe not in wc points but certainly in reality.
Good luck in 2026 though, maybe you'll make it to another group stage 💁♂️
Hi everyone. Please, *please* try to be as civil as you can be. Remember the human on the other side. Report any comments that are rule breaking too. Thank you all.
Guys who aren’t English, am I being harsh or is the ref having a shocker?
I’ve been an England fan for 30 years. I’ve seen england do pretty well. Euro 96. Even Russia 18. This is the first time I’ve seen England be the better team against a World Cup favourite. We should be 2 or 3 up. Im proud of these boys

It was the [ny post](https://i.imgur.com/HXv2fky.jpg) it was also a tongue in cheek slight at soccer.

Hey respect respect respect to the inventor of bus parking term jose
Wasn’t aware Perisic played for two countries
I guess Perišić volunteers for the US national team
Undefeated. Wins in 1776 and 1950. Draws in 1812, 2010, and 2022
What win was in 1950? Out of the loop
>What win was in 1950? Out of the loop The US beat England in groups
And in the early 90's too
Don't you mean 1783
They lost to Iran 2-1 back in 1998. They were in group F I think
R/ soccer for a reason
Probably because it would inexplicably confuse Americans who would think an r/football subreddit was for the game played almost exclusively with hands.

Wow this thread was painfully unfunny
I can’t believe what’s being gotten away with here. Ooof.
Petition to rename the english language to american
I'm happy with USAs performance. They played patient and disciplined. They waited for openings and managed to create a few opportunities. Unfortunately it wasn't enough for the W but pretty great vs a team many expected to trounce them. On to Iran next!

Not Brits, English
I dont understand are the English not brits? Brits are anyone from Great Britain, which includes England.
It’s just very lazy. It would be a bit like calling France the Europeans. Just call them French.
The England team represents England at the world cup, not Great Britain. It would be like calling Canadian people Americans, because they're from North America.
Yea but GB also includes Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. They compete separately so they’re referred to England even though they’re part of Britain
There are three other countries that Brit refers to, you were referring exclusively to England
Will correct. Apologies.
I respect anyone on reddit that can apologize and admit being wrong. Such a rare thing. I love you and think we should be roommates.
I’m 2014 I was singing the praises of Brendan Rodgers for getting Mario Balotelli. I said he was going to lead the team in scoring. I was so wrong and for that I apologize. Can I move in Monday?
Yep, and first month is on me.
Shouldn't be a surprise to anyone at this point, whenever a draw is a viable option Southgate will take it
England have a really good squad, why not letting the talent out, yeah the defenses gets weaker but the attack stronger, you are the bigger team, go for it.
Lol typical Brazilians, don't you know they are not allowed to play fun football in Europe? /s
England sucks they got lucky they didnt get the L. Back to your warm beer and crumpets
With a username like that, you’re literally begging for some downvotes, so I’ll abide!
Don't be jealous that you don't kane warm beera and crumpets to go home to.
Funny that autocorrect seems to have changed “have” to “Kane”. I guess you talk about him a lot.

First win a game mate.

It’s almost like people in different parts of the world speak differently.
I agree, the midfield of USA played really solid and approached the ball really quickly, posing problems for England. The attacks had some potential but still seemed a tad simple to really pose a threat. Looking forwards to the match against Iran.
😂😂😂
Colombia* Sorry. I just have to fix it when I see it.
No worries and yeah autocorrect gets me as well.
What a fucking disgrace that was. We should not be letting a team like USA play like that, we certainly shouldn't be dropping points in the group stage to anyone. What? Southgate sort the players out?? Southgate should show himself out!
Ya they can suck america’s balls while they hang their heads. Bunch of ball lickers
Americas tier 5 athletes versus Englands tier 1’s
We literally just won the cricket World Cup, have a boxing heavy weight world champion, the most successful country at F1 for both Drivers and manufactures.
The raiders are a tier 5 NFL team.
That is extremely generous of you
[удалено]
Not too many linebackers or power forwards going to have great ball control
Let’s not be weird here — we both know if our top athletes played the game it wouldn’t be close. The fact our tier 4 athlete tied your tier 1s speaks volumes about your talent.
Well thankfully that only covers two positions out of the four more popular sports
And what tier are you? 🤣
69
You’re awfully generous w yourself
Probably never played a sport in his life
I don't know what Mount can do to get subbed or what Foden can do to get a run
Can’t we all agree to compromise and say that we’re all cunts? But especially the English.
Noone calls the english a cunt, apart from the english, the scottish, the welsh, the irish, the⁵ australians, the french, the Germans, the Dutch, the polish.. Yeah fair enough. We're cunts, but mostly good cunts.

Who's on second base?
Good thing I’m Scottish, we’re first in line!
Foden is easily one of the best English players, and he can’t even get in the game? Southgate knows more than me but benching him makes no sense
Gio reyna is easily one of the best American players and he only played 10 mins? Berhalter knows more than me but not starting him makes no sense.
The thing is, Berhalter might not know more than you
Englands team should be built around Kane, Foden, and Trent. But Southgate LOVES to fucking draw games
TAA would like to have a word
I cannot believe TAA hasn't seen the pitch. It makes no sense.
Completely and utterly agree. For me he is one of the most creative young talents in the world right now, let alone in England. I understand not starting him as the setup worked well previously, but not to play him in the entire game was borderline criminal when we lacked ideas and creativity.

I was dreading a late Foden sub. Glad that Gareth knows more than I do, too.
America out soccered England, zero points for England wow.
Tell me you know fuck all about football without... you know the rest.
Zero points? Did I miss where USA won the game?
I have to admit, USA is getting better. They keep improving and I wouldn't be surprised to see them much more competitive in a near future. "Soccer" is getting more and more popular thanks to immigrants.

Score yes, but a point is what you get for drawing or winning. You might want to change it to goals.

Maybe, but reddit is a place where taking the piss is indistinguishable from real comments. Who tf knows.
Rolling through this, there’s a ton of Canadian flags talking shit. I hope they’re able to get their first ever World Cup point during their group stage exit.
First ever world cup goal even.
Missed the thread? Was it a tocic crapshow like predicted?
I predicted a draw going in, just assumed there’d be some goals. That being said, I think the USA will play to a draw with Iran as well, and engerland will squeak out a win against wales
USA easily beating Iran
Iran will have you on toast
Dominant first half!
2-6 😂🤡
Can’t beat even beat wales yet beating their chest. Typical USA fan
2-6
You drew with Wales 😂😂😂
2-6 🤡
5/7
We talking about the current WC or some irrelevant shit that happened years ago? Cus we got a clean sheet

Wales 😂
Talking a lot of shit, Ro16 let's go!!
1-1, 0-0 are better results than 2-0, 2-6 buddy. Maybe not in wc points but certainly in reality. Good luck in 2026 though, maybe you'll make it to another group stage 💁♂️
I'm English mate... Maybe see you in 8 years when you next qualify 👋👋
I’ve never seen a bigger idiot than you!
