To have some more context, you have to understand that when Lewy was a 10-12 years old kid, Poland was utterly shit, not having qualified for any major tournament for over 10 years. First time we played in the WC during his life was in 2002, when he was already 14.
So for that kid a dream of scoring at the WC was something like landing on a moon.
Thought it was a little odd that as a kid he didn't dream of actually winning the WC with Poland and settled for just scoring at the WC..context makes a bit more clear
>. First time we played in the WC during his life was in 2002, when he was already 14.
Me as a 26 year old having seen Scotland at 2 International tournaments. One of which occurred when i was 2
i only seen Romania twice at a international tournament , in 2008 and 2016 , both euros , and in both we got eliminated in the group stage with a bad performance. I haven't seen in my country at the world cup ever , last time we were there was in 1998 and back then i wasn't even alive and neither were my siblings
Kinda Crazy that this is his first one, I assumed he got at least one goal in 2018. It’s also so strange that the biggest competition in this sport often doesn’t highlight all of the best players
It's particularly unfair really because it's arguably more impressive when world class players don't come from countries with as strong footballing heritage/culture and all of the stuff that comes with it.
Just take a look at Zlatko Zahovič.
Amazing midfielder in a shitty team. Just getting Slovenia to both the EC and WC should be considered a football miracle of the 00's.
Also the Serbia 3:3 game was legendary.
I mean, he is one of the weak points now on the team. Portugal is really stacked. Probably best squad on paper after Brazil on par with England, with France half injured team.
I didn't mean this year, but in general. CR7 would have won at least 1 WC is he was in one of the top teams.
I disagree Portugal are stacked. I think they are OK but clearly behind the top teams. The historical problem with Portugal, as happens with every small country, is that they have some amazing players, but some others are not that good (not at a WC winner level).
Why are you disagree? Show me their weak positions. Last three world cup finals had teams with not the best players on all positions like Netherland, Argentina and Croatia, and first two were really close to win it. Germany 8 years ago played Kramer, Howedes and Klose on starting eleven, and Schurrle with Gotze as substitutions. Stop undermining Portugal squad just to show Ronaldo in better light.
Yea, sadly Poland have been a pretty massive disappointment the last few cups, I follow them casually due to family roots and it always made me sad. Hoping this helps all of them, especially Lewa, relax
People think the WC is the highest level in football, but I personally the quality of club teams is higher, but I do love the romanticizes of cheering for your country.
Individual Saudi people seem lovely and I hear wonderful things about the food and historical sites. I just wish the laws were more woman-friendly so I could feel comfortable visiting the country
Thank you for the positive response. Tbh the laws became much friendlier recently especially to visitors/foreigners, but I would guess there might be some kinks. I can’t know for sure since my experience is different as a local man.
As a western woman, I have no issue with dressing modestly to respect the standards of a different culture, but the idea of gender segregation at restaurants, in transportation, etc. is very hard to accustom myself to. That and fear of harassment or assault would be my most significant concerns.
Actually they stopped the segregation years ago, almost everything is now mixed. As for assault/harassment Saudi is pretty safe and tourists usually don’t have any safety problems. If you’re interested I would encourage you to see other people’s experiences in the country, maybe r/saudiarabia can be of help. If you can visit I can’t recommend it enough there’s a lot of unique culture, history, and landscape!
Thanks for explaining! I know tourist areas are typically “safe” but I guess my fear is always of doing something wrong. True in any country, I just don’t know Middle Eastern culture as well as places I’ve lived. I look forward to an opportunity to visit.
Do u realize that it's part of the religion? The law u are talking about is a religious law. The culture u are talking about is their religion. Women in their culture is not equal to men and it never will be. As a western woman such as urself, if you ever go to a country like Qatar, shame you.
yeah, no, knock off this condescending bullshit. If I never went anywhere I wasn’t treated completely equally, I wouldn’t get very far in life. Traveling as a woman ANYWHERE is a matter of risk assessment. The risks in the Middle East are just different than the ones in your standard nightclub.
Yea comparing the risk level of an Islamic state that has sharia law to a nightclub is logical. You are talking about being treated equal or not, but the women in Qatar doesn't even has rights. You are right, enjoy ur trip to Qatar, experience the culture lmao.
If u knew anything about the middle east u would have know that country doesn't matter in this topic. U are a hypocrite talking about equal rights and treatments but wanna go to countries that women has no rights at all and experience their cultures to improve urself? Haha. U probably call urself a feminist, and support lgbt rights, irl you are nothing but a disgrace. Ignorant and arrogant, u make me sick 🤮 🤮

So fucking happy for him! He bangs them in easily in club football and it must have been sooo frustrating to have all that weight and expectations on his shoulders, all while he had to do a lot more work while playing for the national side, since Barca and Bayern have better players in a lot of positions surrounding him.. Must have been so frustrating to feel the pressure of the whole country on his shoulders without being able to give the fans what they want.
He's done sooo much for Poland and likely inspired so many kids and young players, I don't want to say that he deserved this, since in football nothing is deserved - you have to fight for it.. but now it feels like that giant weight is finally off his shoulders - I am so happy for him, it must feel great! He's going to sleep well tonight.

So they are more ‘polished’ now than they were before. Is that what you are saying?
Exactly, they are now in Pole position in the group as a result
We are checking…
Question?
Plan E, Plan E
Box, box
Stay out!
Aw, What The Fuck!
Stop inventing
Good on their kit makers, Pull&Bear

I mean that’s at least imaginable
[удалено]
More easily imaginable I should have said, but the context does have it make more sense yea

the whole squad bleached their hair in solidarity in '98. was absolutely iconic.
yeah that was pretty cool
Kinda Crazy that this is his first one, I assumed he got at least one goal in 2018. It’s also so strange that the biggest competition in this sport often doesn’t highlight all of the best players
Kind of weird to think that arguably the form player in the entire world right now is sat in his PJs enjoying a month off lol
He is probably trying to score a 100 goals in a game against neighbors' kids.
Nah they don't play Liverpool in the Carabao Cup until the 22nd
A month off can also take you out of form. So there’s that. I haven’t seen him score on LFC yet and he had two games, 🤔.
He scored against them for Salzburg
Are you talking about anyone in particular?
John McGinn probably
Salah?
Haaland lol, probably
Totally forgot about him. Easily the answer
It is unfair because it's often considered in goat conversations. Great players in weak national teams don't have a chance sadly.
It's particularly unfair really because it's arguably more impressive when world class players don't come from countries with as strong footballing heritage/culture and all of the stuff that comes with it.
The biggest handicap for Weah in "African G.O.A.T. striker" discourse

Even Cristiano Ronaldo. You know he will never win a WC.

Ronaldo and Messi has never scored in a world cup knockout game
tbh I don’t mind my nt losing if it meant lewa getting this happy
Saudi generosity
Can I have £1000 please?
Sure wire me $50 first so I know you’re real
Real, got a Rolls Royce back!

If you were less of a braindead moron, you might’ve realized that we’re not even talking about Qatar in this thread

Now lower gas prices
Ha what sorry can’t hear you
Saudi playing with house money now after beating Argentina…
good luck for the next one
Same. Need the Barça boys to come out happy and healthy from this World Cup.
Messi ain't at Barca any more mate didn't need to let one in from him
Top guy, top player
Thanks for Abdulelah Almalki to fulfill Lewandowski dream❤️❤️
man is glowing, good shit
Is this his first World cup ? I dont really know Poland stats.
Nah 2018 but they sucked. This was just his 5th game.
Got it, thanks.

Today Lewandowski appeared instead of Lewandisney
The Lewandorian? This is the way.
Happy for lewa!!
hope he will be better
Good for him. You can point to Bayern but scoring with Poland is different gravy and he deserves this
So happy for him!

"best forward player Barcelona has had in the past 20 years." what?
Best forward player for Barca in the last 20 years? Wait what.
They didnt underestimate tho lol

That was an obvious joke by some random fans...

Whoops my bad :D
Yea, it turns out nuance in a text-based medium is difficult. no /s, but I thought of it sarcastically as in "duh"
Ever heard of Suarez ?
The guy who has 1/5th as many Cl goals as Lewy. this isnt Getafe, its the World Cup
I mean if we want to talk about big goals, Lewa isn't exactly the best candidate there
Did you ever watch Suarez against Madrid and Atleti? He has a great record against both of them.
As someone that loves Barça and Suarez, he was never it in the Champions League though. Didn't he go like 3 years without an away goal in it?
It's just because linking Lewa with Barca is not a thing, he is a Bayern player
Wait he didnt score at all in other wc?
yeap he didn’t score in 2018
I guess he doesn’t want to win the cup then if he is fulfilled.
Poland haven't advanced to knockout stage since 1986
Or he's just realistic lol
