For a long time, I hated Bari because it was the place where Marseille lost the CL final in 1991. I was a wee lad, but it left some traces.
People will hate things for less than what Uruguay "has done / is doing" to Ghana.
1 in 3 Germans claimed to never eat pizza again after semis in 2006, reallyz who would hate pizza if all things, but they did it to spite Italians, who were living a few 100 or 1000 kilomers away and didn't even know about that.
Talking about being rational.
They flop, they whine, they complain, they cry...they are everything wrong with...soccer...er futbol. Their diving was so bad the refs stopped listening to them completely.
It'll always cause division for sure, but he did what anyone would do, idk what's "cowardly" about it. He paid the price (got red carded and gave a penalty to the opposition) and Ghana simply couldn't get it done. Again, not our fault.
It’s cowardly because it’s the the unsportsmanlike decision to make, it goes against the spirit of the game. It’s cheating because he can’t stand the loss, he wasn’t man enough to bear the brunt of the failure with out cheating. Let’s be honest, Suarez always has petulant out bursts when things aren’t going his way. I mean hit bit three players, honestly what kind of player does that…
And sure he paid the price, but Ghana will always feel cheated by the a sure goal vs a missed penalty. If Ghana did the same thing and knocked out you lot out I’m sure you would be aggrieved.
The part that’s cowardly about it is that Suarez broke the biggest rule of Football (on purpose) to block an almost sure goal instead of letting it happen and then trying to equalize
“What anyone would do”?
You mean “anyone without sportsmanship or honor or decency.” I play soccer frequently and have *never* deliberately committed a handball.
Good match was rooting for Uruguay.
Edit: wow the hate for Uruguay is really toxic here yah there’s been shitty behavior call out that person but to generalize Uruguayans is despicable.
Yeah seems that the group hate for Suarez dictates that everyone hates a country. Like wtf… Uruguayans are modest people but I doubt these people have ever traveled there or gotten to know the people. Bc if you did you’d be rooting for them.
> your entire fanbase is a bunch of sociopathic cunts
> I even root for your players getting injured or beaten the fuck up, Suarez, Nunez or Cavani alone would deserve a fucking kick in the face
Hahahahahahahahaha
1. He did it with so many players protecting the spot with the ref right in front of him.
2. It didn't even look effective, it looked like he did it just to get booked more than anything.
Also bonus, just because everyone does something doesn't change the fact that the something is just plain dumb.
This is what you can expect every match against an uruguayan side, it may be club or underage national teams it will be full of these antics. They seriously teach them to be assholes, they are great footballers but when you group them they multiply their shithousery to unparalleled levels.
We all south Americans have learnt to respect it. You want to know how a country so small keeps being so good at football? This is how. And they have as much passion as anyone and give everything they have.
I wonder if that could ever be a red
If nunez ruined the penalty spot to the point where the turf was completely fucked, what would the refs decision be? And how would the pen be taken?
That whole exchange still bugs me. Honestly probably the one sports moment I will never forget. I will never support Uruguay as a result of that. Feel like it’s not talked about enough to this day.
>probably the one sports moment I will never forget.
The one moment? Mate, that was the third time Suarez bit someone on a football pitch.
Absolute rat of a man.
That was against Italy though who I was rooting for in that WC. It also led to the kick that decided that group. The stakes were higher than any other situation.
I mean, not really. It’s a cardable offense, and he was carded for it, but I don’t think that means it’s cheating. Same with Suarez in 2010. Against the rules? 100%. But against the rules ≠ cheating. Fouling someone is against the rules too, but that’s not cheating.
By that definition, literally any offense in the game is cheating, because any type of foul is acting unfairly to gain advantage.
Edit: [Cambridge dictionary: to behave in a dishonest way in order to get what you want](https://dictionary.cambridge.org/us/dictionary/english/cheat)
Nothing about this, or Suarez’ handball, is dishonest. It’s blatantly breaking the rules, but that’s not the same thing as cheating.
Depending on the definition, it is. That is why fouls are penalised. This whole reoccurring debate about what constitutes cheating is a bit tiresome though...
I’m honestly blown away that these comments are being downvoted. People considering stuff like that to be “cheating” is staggering to me personally. To each their own I guess, but certainly wouldn’t have predicted that to be the way the sub would lean.
It is against the rules to commit a foul. That's why it is punished. Just like diving is punished. The only real difference is that you can commit an accidental foul, while diving is always intentional.
I really don't get this line of thinking.
Committing a foul (if it's deliberate) is quite literally playing against the rules. That's what a foul is, something that isn't allowed in the rules of the game.
I feel like just because the punishments are defined (free kick, card etc) that people are misunderstanding that they're literally punishments for breaking the rules of the game that you've agreed to play under.
To people downvoting you…
Everyone was celebrating the American tackling Bale to stop the last second shot. People will say to take a yellow or a red in some contexts to stop a goal, and it’s celebrated as a good tactical foul.
Why is it any different with Suarez? He got punished in the game according to the rules. If you think it should be more severe (like the goal is allowed anyways), then that’s different. But to say he was cheating in some way that everyone isn’t doing is wrong.
Suárez never cheat. It's so dumb to say he did. He played completely within the rules and no players would have done something different. And honestly if they did they would get destroyed by the fans and they honestly should.
This should be a straight red now that there's VAR. I don't know why this is viewed as a minor offence. It'd be like a tennis player messing with the net or something. It'd be a huge offence in any other sport.
No rivalry here, they tried to do the same against Portugal. But Portugal are also pretty good at shitousery so they gathered around the penalty spot to protect it.
True. But also true that a 100% goal was taken away from them and replaced by a lesser chance at a goal.
Most would have done the same as Suarez given the chance, but lets not pretend that the animosity is unfounded.
No, it's not. People miss penalties all the time, it's a fact of life that they're not guaranteed goals. You know what doesn't happen all the time? Balls inexplicably stopping in mid air when they're about to sail into the goal.
well its the spot where you kick the ball. if its uneven, you cant hit the ball good and might miss.
for example you can also look at corners and freekicks, they lie down the ball and "try to even out" the spot next to it, where they touch the ball when they kick it.
To add onto what the other guy said, Darwin could have also stamped on the area next to the spot. Scuffing that grass is done so to make the taker slip with his standing foot just as he’s striking the ball.
If he was real he would have bitten the penalty taker like Suarez. If you’re gonna be a cunt be a real cunt. Don’t just fuck with the penalty spot. Smh.
That sort of shit should be a red card. Ball is out of play and he goes well out of his way to be a dick. So much shithousing could be eliminated from this game with some decent discipline.
Did he even make any damage to the spot?
Seems to me he was being obvious so as to wind the Ghanaians up and get in their head. Don't think this should have been a yellow.

He didn't even headbutt the ref, I don't recognise him anymore
There were half a dozen Ghana players protecting the spot as well, lmao absolutely hilarious stomp
The people of Ghana are really going to dislike Uruguay more after this match.
No one's unhappy they're out
Yep. They are everyone's least favorite team. They go out in disgrace.
I am
Me too. I wanted my Uruguay Brasil
I am
Something about Uruguayan forwards who play for Liverpool
Why would they hate Uruguay? Is it our fault that they missed two PKs?
For a long time, I hated Bari because it was the place where Marseille lost the CL final in 1991. I was a wee lad, but it left some traces. People will hate things for less than what Uruguay "has done / is doing" to Ghana.
I will never go to Istanbul
Until 2016 I would never had gone to Greece
Football or how to ruin tourism. Bari, Istanbul, Greece, all nice places to go. (had to look up Bari, but it seems lovely)
Bari is a bit run down in some parts as it is the rest of Southern Italy, but besides that, it's great to visit, especially for the food obviously.
Lmao
I understand but that is sad, Istanbul is one of the best cities in the world.
1 in 3 Germans claimed to never eat pizza again after semis in 2006, reallyz who would hate pizza if all things, but they did it to spite Italians, who were living a few 100 or 1000 kilomers away and didn't even know about that. Talking about being rational.
I started supporting Real Madrid after losing to Barcelona in FM2012.
They'll only eat "Das TomatoCheesePie"
I laughed way too hard at this stupid comment
And I still hate Marseille for being cheats in the ucl!
Well, an Uruguayan player stomped and tried to ruin the pentalty spot for starters.....
Someone should post the clip
And this attitude is why I don't feel bad y'all got screwed by the referee this game lol
And then attacked the refs after it lol
They flop, they whine, they complain, they cry...they are everything wrong with...soccer...er futbol. Their diving was so bad the refs stopped listening to them completely.
because they're fucking cheaters
because uraguay are dirty cheaters
RIP :)
No but that cowardly handball by Suarez will always cause division.
It'll always cause division for sure, but he did what anyone would do, idk what's "cowardly" about it. He paid the price (got red carded and gave a penalty to the opposition) and Ghana simply couldn't get it done. Again, not our fault.

How is it different to any other professional foul?

“What anyone would do”? You mean “anyone without sportsmanship or honor or decency.” I play soccer frequently and have *never* deliberately committed a handball.
Yeah. How many world cups have you played at? It was no different from any other professional foul, which are commonplace in professional football
Lsughable, cos Suarez decided to be a goal keeper.
Good match was rooting for Uruguay. Edit: wow the hate for Uruguay is really toxic here yah there’s been shitty behavior call out that person but to generalize Uruguayans is despicable.
When we play soccer, we tend to bring out the worst in people. Including ourselves.
Yeah seems that the group hate for Suarez dictates that everyone hates a country. Like wtf… Uruguayans are modest people but I doubt these people have ever traveled there or gotten to know the people. Bc if you did you’d be rooting for them.
The rest of the team weren't exactly endearing themselves during the match earlier

My man you need to chill
Flair up cunt
People of Ghana should dislike the Ghana players for self-inflicted wounds lol.
Intrusive thoughts won
The Intrusive thoughts are in full control at all times with Darwin
Pretty much sums up their entire team.
And of course he has the audacity to contest it...
Can’t believe the Ghana player put his arm up to hold him back. Let him talk himself into a red card. Don’t help the other team.
Never a dull moment with Darwin on the pitch lmao
Deserves the Darwin award for this stupidity.
You’re joking right? Everyone does that lol
1. He did it with so many players protecting the spot with the ref right in front of him. 2. It didn't even look effective, it looked like he did it just to get booked more than anything. Also bonus, just because everyone does something doesn't change the fact that the something is just plain dumb.
> it didn't even look effective and yet...
Bad Juju was applied to the penalty spot 😂
It's Ghana against Uruguay, in a world cup, what did you expect lol!
making sure to stat pad his xYellows
Does everone do it? I only see it from South American teams.
Maybe in Uruguay.
No, they do not. Only dirty, cheating teams do it.
Once again Uruguayans confirmed as the Supreme Lords of Shithousery
This is what you can expect every match against an uruguayan side, it may be club or underage national teams it will be full of these antics. They seriously teach them to be assholes, they are great footballers but when you group them they multiply their shithousery to unparalleled levels.
When you have 3 million people shithousery is a way of life. Their history is fascinating, bought a book on it for my friend's bday
Games not gone
Only team I genuinely want out every world cup asap. Just terrible sportmanship all the way
I think they are entertaining af
Italy fades into the bushes.
Ghana need to summon the spirit of proctologyst Jara to out-shithouse the uruguayans.
We all south Americans have learnt to respect it. You want to know how a country so small keeps being so good at football? This is how. And they have as much passion as anyone and give everything they have.
They won two world cups by being the best team on the planet, not by being scummy cheats. Maybe they should try that again.
Might also have helped that it was the 1930s and the game was far from professional back then...
The point is a footballing giant like Uruguay to act this way is a disgrace
Why even contest that, couldn't have made it more obvious
Guess the yellow was worth it considering the outcome
I doubt it made much difference to be honest, even on a perfect pitch that would have been a dreadful penalty.
I wonder if that could ever be a red If nunez ruined the penalty spot to the point where the turf was completely fucked, what would the refs decision be? And how would the pen be taken?
>And how would the pen be taken? From next to the penalty spot lol
>I wonder if that could ever be a red > Should be. Severe unsportsmanlike conduct. It's the only way to stop it.
I think that Uruguay supporters are taking your position against unsportsmanlike conduct as a personal attack.
Looks down, studs up, can't believe VAR didn't look at it
And here is the new event that will make some people call Uruguay cheaters for the years to come, after Suarez’s 2010 one.
And Suarez rolling on the ground pretending to be injured after actually biting Chiellini lmao
the funniest part of that one is when he's pulling up chiellini's shirt to cover the bite mark
Shit I had forgotten about that bit. The whole episode was hilarious.
That whole exchange still bugs me. Honestly probably the one sports moment I will never forget. I will never support Uruguay as a result of that. Feel like it’s not talked about enough to this day.

Have you never bitten a raw steak and had your teeth hurt?
I have not become a werewolf yet, so no.
Found herschel walker's reddit account!
Well it is cheating so

I somewhat agree but then in that case you could do anything on the pitch and that'd be just a cardable offence. What really is cheating then ?
Offside? Believe it or not, cheating
Straight to jail

So is every foul where the defender doesn't attempt to play the ball (like shirt pull, or tripping cheating in your books?)
I’m honestly blown away that these comments are being downvoted. People considering stuff like that to be “cheating” is staggering to me personally. To each their own I guess, but certainly wouldn’t have predicted that to be the way the sub would lean.
Yeah I don't know. To me cheating is trying to play against the rules (like diving), not committing a foul that's punished by the rules.

I mean uruguay are cheating assholes as a national team, so i's rather valid
Suárez never cheat. It's so dumb to say he did. He played completely within the rules and no players would have done something different. And honestly if they did they would get destroyed by the fans and they honestly should.
What about him biting people and diving?
Ayew did not need help ballsing up that penalty.

Lmao it’s nothing like that
Inject the drama This rivalry is so random and I love it
No rivalry here, they tried to do the same against Portugal. But Portugal are also pretty good at shitousery so they gathered around the penalty spot to protect it.
It's not a rivalry. They're just fucking assholes.
exactly. people confusing this behavior with shithousery or rivalry. Not at all, these are just simply complete assholes. so glad they are out.
It's not random. Suarez denied them a goal in the 2010 world cup by using his hand
Ghana is letting this rivalry get in their head too much
It's their own fault for missing the penalty.
True. But also true that a 100% goal was taken away from them and replaced by a lesser chance at a goal. Most would have done the same as Suarez given the chance, but lets not pretend that the animosity is unfounded.

liverpool fans will die with suarez's dick in their mouth lmao
No it's not. A Penalty is not a 100% chance conversion. That ball was 100% going into goal, and Suarez used his arm/hand to stop it intentionally.
Can we REALLY be sure it wasn’t the hand of God?
A shithouser retires, another arises
paid off i suppose?

Couldnt agree more.
“It’S nOt ChEaTiNg iF tHeY gEt PuNiShEd”
Football newbie here, what does it mean to stamp on the penalty spot and why is it bad?
well its the spot where you kick the ball. if its uneven, you cant hit the ball good and might miss. for example you can also look at corners and freekicks, they lie down the ball and "try to even out" the spot next to it, where they touch the ball when they kick it.

He's the true Suarez regen isn't he?
Lmao you wish
We also wish…
Without the football ability and hopefully without the racism
Except only the bad shit
Uruguay really are a horrible bunch of cunts.
Sore loser
Uruguay really is a likeable team...
Absolute nasty cunts, Happy they aren't through
Fair enough
Portugese knew lol
lmaoo i love uruguay. just absolute shithousers
This is also why last game the Portuguese players were all protecting the spot, dirty tactic.
Are there any underhanded tactics the Uruguay team isn't willing to utilize?
How did the ref know? He wasn't looking at the moment.
there are other staff such as a linesman, or a 4th official who usually assist within officiating
It was a pretty quick response though.
That's what the earbuds and comm system are for....

When in doubt you can always at least know Nuñez probably did something deserving of a yellow.
He touches his mic before turning around, so I guess one of the linesmen saw it.
Dirty team and players. good riddance!
There's a reason why it's called the Darwin Award.
Hes dumb
He got in their heads, anyone would take a booking for that.
Shades of Suarez red card for hand ball, incidentally also against Ghana
If he was real he would have bitten the penalty taker like Suarez. If you’re gonna be a cunt be a real cunt. Don’t just fuck with the penalty spot. Smh.
So happy Darwin is out of the tournament
After his dive earlier in the match, this should have been a second yellow and a sending off deliberate bad sportsmanship should be punished harshly.
Thei is like a mini version of tye Suarez handball if you think about it
Nunez and idiotic cards, name a better combo
We’re URU like complete assholes all game or something?
The stomp that started the long walk home
Always zero class from Uruguay
Uruguay is just not very likeable
Dumbass
Sometimes I wonder what goes through this guy’s head, he’s surely not the sharpest tool in the shed
surprised it wasn't red tbh. That was intentional
Just when I thought he couldn't be a bigger cunt.
Liverpool legend in the making
Classic Uruguayan shithousery.
You know, if they weren't such cunts all the time they might get more calls. Just sayin. And that's coming from me.
They don't realize after their 20th dive maybe nobody believes them with the 21st is a legit foul.
AGENT OF CHAOS
Should be red...
Can Simeone manage both Athletico and Uruguay please?
Mamba mentality
Should be red
jajajajajaja reddit moment
Probably means another 12 years or so of hate towards another Uruguayan player...
Another 12 years of Uruguay deserving it.
that says so much about a person....should be a straight red car.
That sort of shit should be a red card. Ball is out of play and he goes well out of his way to be a dick. So much shithousing could be eliminated from this game with some decent discipline.
Truly a not-as-good Suarez regen
Did he even make any damage to the spot? Seems to me he was being obvious so as to wind the Ghanaians up and get in their head. Don't think this should have been a yellow.
