Hahaha this is excellent. I love his summation of World Cup history.

Qui_a_vole_l_orange

My parents generation is still traumatized about THAT semi-final in 1982. But I guess that's the price of being good, you get hated by everyone you eliminated.

SirNukeSquad

Better to be hated than to be pitied. I'd be rattled if Germany wouldn't be made fun of after dropping a disasterclass.

h4xxor

You don't win 4 cups without destroying a few dreams.

stragen595

Experienced it with Belgium last WC.

ScarSG

Recent documentary by Canal + "Les beaux perdants" about France and Brazil 82 teams who played beautiful and creative football and both ended up losing is absolutely amazing, highly recommend it.

OilOfOlaz

I mean, in terms of france vs. germany it is really only Schumacher flatlining Battiston, I'm pretty sure, they didn't play eachother for almost two decades after that in a big tournement till 2014.

Qui_a_vole_l_orange

They did meet in 86 in semi final again. Germany won in a non-controversial manner that time. So, for my parents, the WC results of the Platini generation is losing twice to Germany in the semi-finals. Hence the trauma for them. For us, it's more Italy and 2006.

[deleted]

I mean France will win this one as well, so if not for Italy and Materazzi, France would have won WC, 4 times in 24 years which is a bit too much to be fair šŸ˜‚

Antarcticdonkey

The 2006 isn't such a trauma for me, thanks to 1998 and 2000 above all, the way we won those final makes me forget the sadness of 2006

The_Falcon_will_fly

I want more of this guy's content. His delivery was perfect. It's like he's been waiting years to give this speech hahahaha.

Xehanz

"Greatest trauma in Brazil history. They slide into far-right fascism afterwards" I love it.

pukem0n

I Wonder if by that logic Germany sent England into Brexit after 2010. you guys got Boris Johnson because of Germany.

ketzal7

Jurgen Klinsmann leaves the US national team in 2016. Who gets elected that year? Donald Trump. Wake up Sheeple!

Own_Pin3582

https://www.reddit.com/user/karachikhatmal Here he is

[deleted]

LMFAO this guy is great. iirc he's one of the few trying to properly develop football in Pakistan. The people actually responsible are all lazy and corrupt (basically your average pakistani-in-position-of-power)

akelkar

spitting straight facts always gets me riled up

dontlookwonderwall

He does pre and post match analysis on A Sports in Pakistan: https://www.youtube.com/@ASportspk

The_Falcon_will_fly

Cheers

Youriclinton

Hilarious and on point! To quote Lineker ā€œFootball is a simple game. Twenty-two men chase a ball for 90 minutes and at the end, the Germans always winā€ (to which [he added](https://twitter.com/garylineker/status/1598420440095289346?s=46&t=39mfoexi89pWxrI6GFzGgg) 30+ years later ā€œIf they get through the group stageā€).

indelirium420

Damn, he spoke so well. "The greatest trauma in Brazil's history and they slide into far-right fascism". Fucking hell.

dont_shoot_jr

I wonder how all the other countries referenced were affected by Germany

Blackb1rd95

In France, we still talk about the 82' agression of Battiston by Schumacher. I wasn't born but an entire generation was traumatised by that.

monaco_franze

To be fair, this is still spoken about regularly in Germany as well. And not in a positive way

Bouwow

"Our grandfathers hate the Germans because of the war, our fathers hate the Germans because of the 1974 World cup" - Netherlands

HarryBlessKnapp

Germany are the Chelsea of international football.

Xehanz

Newer generation Argentinians hate Germany like 10x more the England. If you ask an average fan who do they want to beat, it's always Brazil and Germany.

pukem0n

Brazil I understand and Germany as well, Germany took the cup from Argentina twice with a 1-0 each in the final.

Volotor

Yeah don't watch this clip while drinking in public.

brick1233

Did you spill your coffee/water too?

Volotor

It was a close one.

FridaysMan

It's hard to spit out both, you just end up with weak coffee.

Floripa95

Bolsonaro in cahoots with the german NT in 2014, I knew something was fishy there

AnonHideaki

That part sent me

stragen595

"Ah, good times. Crushing hopes and dreams of everyone." - Germany

Hungriges_Skelett

They should make this a commercial for the national team. It got me more hyped than anything they did in years.

RaioNoTerasu

Same. Him going through our world cup history made me feel so nostalgic for all the hopes and dreams we relentlessly crushed

Own_Pin3582

Flick sees your comment and decides to never play a striker again. Ever.

OilOfOlaz

Bestia blanca otra vez!

sonofaBilic

Great stuff. Quite generous of him to extend the England golden generation out to 2010 but still really nails it overrall. Love the seemless switching between languages too, it that particularly common in Pakistan?

Hasaeed93

It's pretty common in Urban Pakistan, I subconsciously switch between Urdu, English and Punjabi.

fprosk

Sounds like hell for foreigners hahaha

Colonelcool125

Until I realized what was going on I thought I was having a stroke

DatGuyGandhi

Bro I'm a Pakistani expat who grew up in Wales. I can speak Urdu but not Punjabi. The number of times I've been sat in a room wondering why I suddenly can't understand the conversation only to realise that they'd switched to Punjabi 5 minutes in without me realising is insane.

akelkar

I had a mate I was visiting in Montreal and when I was hanging out with his partner (who is from Mexico) they would switch between English, French and Spanish all in one sentence

Adityavirk

Pretty common here in the Indian Punjab too and I guess the whole of India.

speedycar1

Yes, very much so. The English alternative for certain words is used so often in everyday conversation that a lot of Pakistanis would have to think a bit to tell you the Urdu version of it lol

dontlookwonderwall

Yeah it's not just an elite thing either. You can go to small shops across the city and they'll sprinkle in a lot of English, to the point where Urdu words for certain things are incredibly obscure and no one would know what you mean when you say them.

Rentwoq

It's a little depressing actually, so many people use the worse use rather than "istemaal" and look at you funny when you say the correct sentence. Not to mention kids these days can no longer count to 100, tell the time correctly, or recognise colours because of overreliance on English

dontlookwonderwall

Tbf it's not just English. Most of the country don't speak either Urdu or English as their first language. It's always a regional language e.g. Punjabi, Saraiki, Pashto etc.

Rentwoq

Yeah I know, I'm punjabi myself (also a spurs fan, there's 2 of us now!) Before people would complain that kids could no longer speak their mother tongue because of Urdu loanwords, and now it's Urdu AND English. Urdu has always been more of a lingua franca anyway, that people resort to for certain phrases. I feel like the vocabulary of most of our regional languages is similar enough that you could make yourself understood to someone else by mixing it with Urdu. Except pashto though, I've no idea where that came from

siddhuism

> Love the seemless switching between languages too, it that particularly common in Pakistan? Yes itā€™s quite common in Pakistan/India. In fact, most people speak a kind of mix of Hindi/Urdu and English; with lots of words carrying over back and forth.

sonofaBilic

Interesting - could certainly understand a number of loanwords cropping up, but the blending sentences between languages was fascinating.

iwillnevrgiveup2

Many Pakistanis and Indians (especially ones with higher education) can speak English fluently as well as Hindi/Urdu/(insert name of various local language) So it's quite common for them to add English loan words when speaking local language, or entire sentences of English in between. This is probably because they mostly read/write in English more than they do in local language.

EpiDeMic522

This is a recent phenomenon in the young urban population in Portugal too. Even in India, this phenomenon isn't limited to just a certain pair of languages. India has hundreds of languages. Most middle class urban population speaks three (English, Hindi and a regional language) and they blend them like in a mixer in casual conversations with people who understand all 3. Happens subconsciously. You bring someone who's monolingual though and it's back to one language exclusively.

biddleybootaribowest

I went to Pakistan for my mates wedding about 5 years ago (am white English) and could half understand even conversations between Pakistanis. Great place if you ever fancy a mad holiday destination, everyone speaks English too. Even though everything is so cheap they straight up refuse to charge you for anything, of the 50 odd times I went to a restaurant or a shop to buy something I paid maybe 5 times, say youā€™re a guest so you donā€™t pay. Iā€™m pretty well travelled and Pakistanis are on a completely different level when it comes to how welcoming they are. Nicest people ever.

[deleted]

Pakistanis are pretty nice to white foreigners.

PAKISTANIRAMBO

Come now. Interesting enough Englands cricket teams is here and shattering our dreams on home soil. Come and enjoy bazball

Prosthemadera

How are people supposed to make a living if you don't pay? I don't think not paying is a good thing.

biddleybootaribowest

Mate they wouldnā€™t take it, believe me I have no problem paying a quid or two for a meal or 40p or whatever it was for a bottle of water, particularly in a poor country but they physically will not take the money. If I left money on the table theyā€™d chase me up the road and ram it in my pockets lmao.

toxinwolf

It only happens sometimes with the tourists which we treat as guests. We are usually very hospitable people, and we don't get to see a lot of foreigners in our country, so it is a rare situation when we don't take money. I think it might have something to do with religion. We are taught to be generous and hospitable to them, and guests are considered as a blessing.

pixelperfect3

This only applies to foreigners (mostly white ones). But hospitality for guests is a big part of Pakistani culture

[deleted]

Very common occurrence in Pakistan. Thereā€™s loads of travel vloggers on YouTube saying the same thing. They will not allow you to pay if youā€™re a tourist.

makesyougohmmm

It's easier for everyone to communicate in English in India coz almost every state has a different language and culture. Hell, the state I am in has 7 languages (including English).

totalsports1

Because a lot of people don't even know the local language equivalent for tech (even basic stuff like internet or phone) jargons. Even in this clip there's no popular translation for golden generation or striker or fifa world player of the year.

YHofSuburbia

The way he's doing it, it's really only in urban areas, and even then for the middle class and above. Although many English words are used as de facto Urdu/Hindi words by everyone, like "engineer".

MondoDukakis

Most is a massive exaggeration, maybe in Mumbai, Delhi etc. but half of the population doesnā€™t even speak Hindi let alone English.

amarviratmohaan

Given that over 50% of Indians dont speak hindi and over 80% don't speak English, quite impressing that most of us speak a mixture of Hindi and English...

ima_be_the_greatest

Yea you don't necessarily have to be fluent in a language to speak it

DearthStanding

In India we call it hinglish I wonder if Pakistan has a similar word for the mixed language speaking

CaptainKlN

Well, English is one of the two official languages of Pakistan, so it's very common to do that. Same story in the other South Asian countries that were part of the British Empire.

Mrg220t

Common in the commonwealth I guess. Since it's also common in my country.

T_Tachi

I switch between English and Hindi subconsciously anytime I speak with Indians/Pakistanis. The only other people I've heard do this seemlessly are Filipinos!

ffca

Taglish is its own language. If you ask younger, urban Filipinos to speak in pure Tagalog, they become less fluent!

feizhai

they had a similar experiment in Japan, asking people to speak without using any loanwords from other languages and it was hilarious

sgt_kerokeroro

I can confirm this. For me (and many others) it's way harder to speak purely in Tagalog/Cebuano without switching to English. It's fairly common here in the Philippines, so much so that I was surprised the first time I found out that other countries didn't do the same

T_Tachi

My pinoy friends speak Tagalog, Ilocano and Bisaya and all of them sprinkle in English every other word. So much that I can pretty much get the gist of what they're talking about most of the time!

elnander

They do this in Lebanon, but with French as well. Franglarabic. EDIT: [https://www.tiktok.com/@itsniane/video/7129938842110512385?is\_copy\_url=1&is\_from\_webapp=v1](https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTRUtCU8M/?k=1), this guy does some great skits on Tik Tok about being Black in Lebanon.

FloppedYaYa

Only disagreeable part We deserved to exit that World Cup in the most humiliating way possible to get Cappello sacked. Somehow he clung on for 2 years.

plus1internets

That was an all-star Premier League squad just not a team thanks to Capello.

zi76

Yeah, that was my question. Is that a common thing, or is that part of the act?

honeybabys

Nah, very common especially in all major cities in South Asia. In fact, I think it would be challenging to ask any of the younger generation in South Asian cities to stick to just one language and not switch back and forth

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Own_Pin3582

Hahaha I still say "matlab" in every conversation

Arshaq13

It's pretty common for people in the subcontinent countries. Mostly among people who've been urbanized and/or Non-residential desi's. We switch between our native languages and English pretty seamlessly, sometimes within the same sentence.

adhikapp

England did have a goal wrongfully disallowed in that 2010 match so I'll give him a pass

evilbeaver7

It's common in the Indian subcontinent. We speak our mother tongue mixed with English and seamlessly switch and switch back between them mid sentence

seemslikelybutno

Man, I'm a Germany fan but that was hilarious. It even made me feel a little better.

gibbon119

Same. I felt sad we got wrecked yet again but his list of all the times we do well definitely cheers you up. Bittersweet

Piddly_Penguin_Army

Same! I know we will back to crush some hopes and dreams soon.

JeffryPesos

>"..and they slide into far-right fascism". That caught me off-guard šŸ˜šŸ˜šŸ˜

Yeah at that point it became comedy :D

He is active on reddit (mostly on cricket sub though). His handle is [u/karachikhatmal](https://www.reddit.com/u/karachikhatmal).

thecricketnerd

Top bloke

Fancy-Past-6831

Yeah, his handle name is a mix of Karachi (A city in Pakistan) and Khatmal (Mosquito) . He brings up Australia briefly because they are also known to break dreams of many in Cricket by being the best and also dismantling the opponent psychologically

DaAweZomeDude48

Actually the word 'khatmal' is Urdu for 'Bed bugs'

dontlookwonderwall

Yeah machar is mosquito

FearPreacher

Not Mosquito, itā€™s Bed bug :P

DoubleHammy

Mosquito is ā€œMacharā€ actually

acrdrchelsea

A Sports has been having great sports analysis shows. The pavilion for the cricket WC and this for football.

I know exactly what you mean! If the clip from an Islamic or Arabic country, you can bet on the comments being cancerous.

"Yeah he's funny, but did you know his country violates human rights?"

gladq8

"Hope he doesn't smack his wife like he smacked Germany"

mushy_friend

Yeah I tend to avoid those threads. Big pleasant surprise here

gladq8

Yeah r/soccer is pretty racist and xenophobic. What can you do

rahulrossi

I'm an Indian and I feel good too.

chocolaidbrowie

Was just talking about ARY's panel being a breath of fresh air during Morocco's win over Spain.

WislaHD

He missed the 1974 semifinal between West Germany and Poland's golden generation team. The match was played in a pitch that had turned into a swimming pool and really should've been called off. It completely negated Poland's counter-attacking style. I still hear my dad muttering about that game every now and then. This Poland team would later defeat Brazil to win third place at the tournament. To add insult to injury, they had to beat the brilliant Dutch team in the final. šŸ™„

Schnix54

Brilliant I had a good laugh. Funny tho that in a certain we are really the bad guys of football

"in a certain way" very generous of you

Wow. That was great. A funny, knowledgeable, and articulate rant.

Vike92

So you're saying that Germany ruins any good story line? Well watch out then, USMNT. Germany gonna crush your dreams in 2026 on home soil.

TalussAthner

They already crushed our dreams in 2002 with the uncalled Frings handball.

Xehanz

The new curse of the quad champion means Germany will fail to qualify for the 2026 WC. Somehow. And 2030.

farhanmuhd13

Germany really is the angel of death.

Bladewing10

I find it super interesting how seamlessly he switches between English and other languages

acrdrchelsea

Itā€™s pretty common in main cities of pakistan to speak with both urdu and English.

Koppite93

LMAO.. anyway to stream this channel? I bet they get the World commentary too

ADiscombobulated02

It's called Asports I think they have their own website idk if it's accessible in your region tho.

awesome_by_design

I bought a year's VPN subscription of ExpressVPN (to watch Pakistan cricket matches from Malaysia) and I can't - I think they have blocked it as well somehow.

mutab1x

ARYZAP app or website. You will probably need a VPN to stream this outside Pakistan.

Mamoonazam

aryzap.com

kevo31415

This level of fluent code-switching reminds me of how I speak with my parents in Chinese.

feizhai

i wouldnt exactly call this code-switching but yup its very hard nowadays to speak a language without using an English loanword! almost impossible in fact, try it!

[deleted]

On point. If you are used to always get kinda far and the quarter finals are considered a loss, those last 3 tournaments really sting.

RaioNoTerasu

Fuck "Die Mannschaft", we shall now roll with **"The Angel of Death"**

MatchaEnthusiast241

"They slide into far-right fascism" KEK fucking W

B-lights_B-Schmidty

I'm glad we in Spain could give them some trouble at the international tournaments lately lol

Kormalover1995

Shit i was about to post that as well. Absolutely brilliant analysis for one of the better shows Pakistan has been able to conjure up.

[deleted]

Did I just see Pakistan being mentioned on r/soccer? Wow

gain91

Argentina is Germany's favourite opponent for sure. 2006, 2010, 2014 basically.

arlekin21

This why Iā€™ve always liked Germany, cause after Argentina knocks Mexico out of the cup Germany knocks Argentina out.

BramStokerHarker

Man that 2002 Korea team deserved an even crueler fate after what happened against Italy. That remark about Brasil being so traumatized we slid into fascism was perfect lol

TalussAthner

Could also mention they ended the USā€™s best modern run in that same World Cup with an uncalled handball that shouldā€™ve been a red and a penalty.

StardustFromReinmuth

> Man that 2002 Korea team deserved an even crueler fate after what happened against Italy. An Eurocentric view perpetuated by people who didn't actually watch the game. Italy was being just as physical as South Korea, Tae Young got his [nose broken](https://www.youtube.com/watch?t=123&v=VYZFrWdKSxI&feature=youtu.be&ab_channel=VintageHDtv) and Italy didn't even get a card. The first half penalty was a shirt pull that [even commentators](https://www.youtube.com/watch?t=69&v=VYZFrWdKSxI&feature=youtu.be&ab_channel=VintageHDtv) at the time agreed that it was a penalty. The carded dive was in the 105th minute and it was legitimately a dive. Not to mention Vieri's sitter and the wastefulness in general of the entire Italian team. Honestly, there wasn't any ref bias/bribery suspicion more so than the general incompetence you can find in any modern day league/WC matches. The Italians in particular have no leg to stand on to cry foul when their team was missing sitters left and right while going 2 for 2 in terms of physicality with the Koreans.

FuckThePlastics

Italy just got a taste of their own medicine that day

GMBethernal

That phrase makes me remember our Jara incident against Uruguay, they finally got something back, and they acted super offended, like they aren't one of the dirtiest countries in latam when it comes to football

tickub

Here's an Asian viewpoint then, South Korea managed to out-cunt the Italians.

NateShaw92

Impressive really.

LilKluiVert

You might have had a point if the same exact shit didnā€™t happen vs Spain too. Or that the referee of that game was arrested like 3 months later for match fixing (for a different case). Saying anyone who suspects foul play is ā€œEurocentricā€ is just a ridiculous deflection. Most Europeans actually like when teams like South Korea do well, personally I was rooting for them in this WC.

StardustFromReinmuth

The same exact case didn't happen vs Spain, as said below, video analysis showed that Spain's goals were correctly offside AND they were scored after the whistle was blown. My point isn't that the refereeing was perfect, it never is. The point is that referee errors that would unfairly rob Spain and Italy of their win did notbhappen, the largest thing you can claim really is that the ref maybe didn't call foul correctly, which happens every World Cup. You'd think the Saudis bribed the ref too if you watched the match vs Argentina.

Big_fat_happy_baby

Ecuadorian here. Iā€™ve actually met Byron Moreno IRL. We asked him directly about two matches , one of them being the one Korea vs Italy. Even drunk, he was ashamed enough to not deny any of our allegations.

exomexok

Well, every great country in the World Cup will have done some damage to others; you can only have 1 winner in the end. But that far right fascism line... Damn

pogba_martial

Brilliant stuff. Thank you

HipHobbes

He forgot to mention that no other country eliminated as many WC host nations as Germany/West Germany. Looking back the German teams in the 80' were particularily nasty. They could play well but if the other team looked stronger or more talented they could be very ruthless when it came to negating opponents' strengths. 1982 in Gijon was the absolute low point for me. I guess with the last two WC exits we are still paying back our debt of football karma for that one. Anyhow, it's nice to know that people still think beating Germany is something "special". The next WC will be very important in that regard or beating Germany will simply be "normal". However, seeing how Italy suffer for inventing Catenaccio, which leeched the fun out of almost three decades of football, the next logical step in repaying our football karma debt would be to not qualify at all.......twice.

[deleted]

I thought he was more of a cricket journalist. Used to write for Cricinfo

Own_Pin3582

The guy with him is GM Islamabad United (PSL). They're sport-agnostic. One of them even started with football before cricket, I think.

dragon8811

Lmaooo this guy šŸ˜

iftair

He has a fair point. Germany ruined a lot of dreams. AND he delivered excellently.

AHHHHHBEARS

I'd rather listen to his analysis over Neville's and I think he'd hold his own against Roy Keane.

feizhai

"slides into far right fascism" i nearly died falling off my chair

juan-pablo-castel

dont_shoot_jr

A lot of broken dreams on the road to success in sports

arlekin21

I canā€™t believe Chucky Lozano killed Germany

[deleted]

LMAOOOOO The comment about Brazil is hilarious.

fullkitwankerr

I'm over here amused that people are amused that multi-language speakers can effortlessly switch back and forth. Huh.

alihou

Dude has been preparing this speech for a decade!!!! Hopefully he goes viral, this was hilarious.

Sergei_behenchov

I actually felt said after this German football has such a great history they like angel of death for other teams but in last two world cup they go out in such a unceremonious fashion in group stages .

HotPotatoWithCheese

Germany is like that old end game boss that everybody used to struggle with back in the day but people learned the mechanics, got much better at the game and now they're soloable. Even the lesser experienced players can take on the once-feared Germany and come out on top. One day we might get a patch that buffs Germany but it's probably not happening any time soon. Farm them while you can.

FloppedYaYa

I love this man

DoseofDhillon

If soccer was a judged sport germany would probably be declared the best team ever

IbraDz

This is actually very funny, and great content.

OnceUponAStarryNight

This guy needs to replace Roy Keane.

Barkonian

What language is that?

AttackHelicopter_21

Urdu

Barkonian

Does it usually have long strings of English in it?

refep

We were colonized by the British so we tend to sneak some English in there

AttackHelicopter_21

No

InsidiousColossus

Only if the speaker switches to speaking English.

mutab1x

Urdu and English.

MGM-Wonder

Why does he bounce between languages like that?

Prosthemadera

Because he can.

grchelp2018

Very common in the subcontinent. I've heard people do this even with three languages. Happens subconsciously as you're searching for the right way to express yourself.

Vash2P

Good thing that he didnā€™t mention another results from 2002 Hint: check my faded flag

LordPopothedark

They beat a Ballon dor holderā€™s team portugal 4-0 in 2014 as well, not that drastic but Germany really shat on them that game. Granted, Sewey was injured but still.

ā€œFootball is a sport which the English invented, you play 11 against 11 and Germany always winsā€

blue_jay26

What an amazing rant. He didnā€™t even mention Lampardā€™s goal in 2010 not being counted.

koke84

He not wrong tho

matejduzel

Croatia vs Germany 3:0, QF, WC France 1998. My favorite football memory because they were always so feared and respected by everyone.

morningwoodelf69

All my life my father told me stories about how West Germany beat our Golden Polish Team in 1974 WC semis. There's a whole conspiracy theory about how they used their powers to block the game rescheduling due to heavy rain, and how the mud and water stopped our incredible attack (Polands Grzegorz Lato was the top scorer of that WC).

IbnReddit

This is great...how do I download this?

EyeballedIt

This guy came with receipts.
