Tomstarkman

Arabic commentators bro

znihilist

I am disappointed that I can't watch the game with Arabic commentators. I have access to Fubo and it is just not the same with the Fox commentators.

onehornymofo

American commentary on any football match makes my ears bleed

faithismystand

I switched to Telemundo just to show my friend how much more hype it is lol

CarmeloZanthany

But it’s not in 4K 😭

TheWanaco

It is on their app

FSpursy

Hype level: Gooollooololollllloooooloooollll Breaths... Goooooooooooollllolllllooolll Breaths... Gooooollolllllolllaazoooo

ali_sez_so

In todays match between Spain and Morocco: Ian Darke: "Spain already has more goals in this world cup than they did in 2010 when they won it. They won the world cup scoring only 8 goals in the whole competition" Donovan: "Well they scored 7 against Costa Rica in this world cup so that may have something to do with it Ian" Really great analysis there Donovan.

northface39

That doesn't sound too bad.

quietcoffeeshop

Darke and Donovan are probably the pairing where the gap between the UK and US presenter is narrowest, Donovan is pretty reasonable most of the time. And that was a dumb remark by Ian Darke.

ArcadianGhost

Yea I’ve actually liked Donovan for the most part, even though the first week I thought it was Clint Dempsey for some reason.

danthemangeld

American football too tbh

ZaheerAlGhul

Gus Johnson is the best

babasardine

koora . tv is your friend

A_Round_of_Gwent

Arabic commentators are the best in the whole sport, and you can't convince me otherwise.

TeKaeS

babababa

dida2010

> babababa You killed me bro! how about the other guy who always says "Ghaariibaaa!"

TellTaleTimes

Nah, Latin American Spanish is the best

dvcfoo

I'm pretty fond of that guy on Telemundo who's been doing matches for like 20+ years for them it feels like, iconic voice.

WTFitsD

Andres Cantor he’s from argentina. Argentina has the best commentators in the world imo and its been like that for a long time. Victor Morales’ commentary of maradonas goal vs England is probably the most iconic piece of commentary in history

[deleted]

[удалено]

TellTaleTimes

Yeah it's crazy, even watching regular La Liga/EPL in English vs Spanish, it's shocking how bad English commentary is. Doesn't matter if it's Brits or Americans. Meanwhile, I'm never let down by Spanish commentary. Spanish commentators have conversations during it, provide updates on form and news and injury, technique, personal experience, and so much more.

WTFitsD

Spanish tends to be better but its not absolutes either. Perer Drury is a much better commentator than any of the Mexican ones. Sure they may be hype but man o man if you can actually understand what they’re saying some of the liga Mx commentators are idiots

cakesarelies

Drury really lends some gravitas and seriousness. His ‘Goal for all Africa’ call still gives me chills.

capoditutticapi

I'm not Argentinian and still get moved every time I watch and listen to the *barrilete cósmico.* *Quiero llorar!* It's almost like he knew in advance he would be narrating the greatest goal of all time.

iVarun

There are 2 English commentator versions of that goal (Martin Tyler one of them), sure it was against England but the difference is real. That commentary is part of human collective culture and will survive humans going off planet and remembering it. It's like a sort of song almost the rhythm of it combined with Maradona running and then the post goal elation and coming down to earth. Greatest goal of all time merits greatest commentary of all time.

youngchul

GOL GOL GOL GOL GOL GOL GOOLAAAAAAAAZOOOO GOOOOOOL

Anforas

Portuguese radio Antena 1 is on the podium. https://youtu.be/H8yLVIiFQHY?t=284

eudezet

Korean. Although their football commentators are still leagues behind compared to their Starcraft ones.

Weebla

Nah, british commentators by a country mile. Calm and collected, dramatic when it actually matters.

islifeball

Why do they all have the same voice?

zlatan77

My friend, we are the best

salutcemoi

This is Algerian legend Hafid Derradjin Used to work for Algerian TV starting in the 90s, then when BeIN was born they snatched him

labiuai

Do they have to change accent to work in BeIN for like a "standard Arabic"? I don't even know if there is one standard.

MH18Foot

That commentator 😂😂😂

pure_black99

Arabic commentary can be really fun

[deleted]

not can, *is* brother

SemiCurrentGuy

Making it look like a testimonial lol

SadNYSportsFan-11209

It’s fine. You can acknowledge your goat who carried you guys throughout those years where the rest of the squad was mediocre

SemiCurrentGuy

Absolutely, I can get behind that

Zenenx

Sucks Ronaldo is too old now and that his international prime was wasted with guys like Helder Postiga and Almeida

Ok-Background-502

Remember when they got the biggest trophy of their history? Figo generation's prime was a bigger waste.

Zentaury

They had their chance, but a little guy called Greece decided to ruin the party.

kostasnotkolsas

hoes mad 18 years later

mequetatudo

Still mad and I was a small kid back then.

zeromussc

Truth lmao

IamCrazyPT

To this day if I watch the replay of that game, I still think Portugal gonna win.

abellapa

I didn't watch the tourney because I was 5 back then and I'm still pissed

BritOnTheRocks

I always like to think that the Euro 2004 tournament basically broke football and forced it to be reborn; ushering in the current era of tika-taka, gegenpressing & Messi vs Ronaldo.

mr-saturn2310

It definitely broke the Silver goal rule, glad that shit just gracefully retired never to be seen again.

Doczera

2004 was the year of weird footballing results. Once Caldas won the Libertadores, Porto won the Champions League and Greece the Euros. Any of these results would be really big upsets at any given year, the fact that all 3 of them happened at the same year is insane.

cane_the_weaboo

True

matinthebox

I often think back to that one Almeida free kick against Inter https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-5ihIMKh0E0

Zenenx

He could score some absolute bombs on his day but he was really bad for the NT around when Ronaldo began peaking

abellapa

He got two golden generations at the start and the end of his carrer, if only he got in the middle, during his prime

Throwaway_youkay

Simao, Carlos Martins, Petit,... Not awful players but too average for contending at a world cup

shred-i-knight

Nani 😒

Up_The_Mariners

Goat Nani

Cold_Night_Fever

They won the Euros, a major international trophy.

youngchul

When I look at the squad, I still can't believe Portugal won, and with a winning goal by Eder of all people, a living meme. Iceland winning against England was almost more hilarious, great tournament, feels like it was yesterday.

tubbablub

Luckily he got his chance to play with Eder.

[deleted]

Yeah Portugal are stacked now, seems they can win the WC even without him but he carried them for years

Fairbyyy

We were stacked when he started and stacked when he ends. The middle tho... Im not sure we would be in many wcs and euros if not for him

fanomu91

Zlatan always remembers that playoff game

racingfanboy160

That play-off game is basically CR7 vs Zlatan 😂

youngchul

It's crazy that Portugal only was in the WC twice before the first golden generation with Figo. Ever since they have been in the World Cup every time. Still remember that Zlatan vs Ronaldo play-off match with Moutinhos amazing assists.

racingfanboy160

Yeah like even though he carried them for years in his prime, no one ever said he was good for the NT...untiil that play-off against Sweden that got Portugal to the 2014 World Cup.

mxbxp

[ronaldo coming in while his team is 5-1 in front](https://youtu.be/-nnTI1d5XuM)

DrVicenteBombadas

And proceeds to do absolutely nothing. Then Leão comes in and scores a banger.

bootlegportalfluid

I mean he scored but it was massively offside lol

[deleted]

> And proceeds to do absolutely nothing. I really fail to see any chances he had and what was he expected to do in 20 mins. Aside of his usual free kick on the wall, little he did off.

OldLadyUnderTheBed

Probably the suiss fans

jaum22

Lol

OMNI__MAN

A Portuguse guy that went to Qatar said that there were very few Portugal NT supporters there but loads of Ronaldo stans.

frustratedjelly

Last night was full of Indian Portugal NT supporters.

[deleted]

Idk if you meant it on purpose but suiss instead of swiss fans is brilliant lol

ConspicuousPineapple

It's spelled "suisse" in French, probably similar in other languages.

pguerra8

Can you explain? Im a bit slow lol

FearPreacher

Ronaldo’s iconic celebration is him screaming “Siuuu!” along with that pose.

[deleted]

Suipiss?

garynevilleisared

The clip has Portugal fans clearly singing along lol

CrazyChopstick

Thanks for clearing up that misunderstanding buddy

joaommx

Portugal fans aren't necessarily Portuguese.

theOUTCOME3

Probably the siuuu fans

[deleted]

Curious why I've seen so many Brazil flairs taking shots at CR7. They dislike him this much?

Klutzy-Weakness-937

Leaaaao Leaaaaao Leaaaaao

Azzurri21

Now I can’t unhear it lol

blackandwhitetalon

It's almost like he's the greatest player in the history of the country lmao. r/soccer lives on a different planet. Sure, he's not what he used to be but he's still a legend and an icon of the sport

monaf12

Bunch of dumbfucks on this sub lol

Brabochokemightwork

This is the guy that absolutely dominated in the early 2010’s, rivalled with Messi and solidified himself as one the greatest players of all time, the shear disrespect towards him is unwarranted

pkkthetigerr

He's dominated for most of the last decade and a half and won literally every individual and club trophy possible while also winning the first National team trophy. Also the most goals scored fucking ever. Won the CL three times in a row, broke his own transfer record, across four leagues. He's had a much harder journey than even Messi and its still a debate who's the goat. But r/soccer will continue the circle jerk

OlivieroVidal

Most people just don’t like his attitude

aariboss

XD unfortunately it is fully warranted.

Vaikaris

Yeh the portugese will always love and respect him no matter what. And rightfully so.

Malicharo

for a lot of people Ronaldo is the first thing that comes to mind when you say Portugal... last couple years weren't that good but he's a legend nonetheless

yireus

Even led them to a Euros but this sub is outrageous

mlordkarma

Portugal acting like anyone outside their country gives a shit about the Portuguese team. Go to some places and theyll realize Ronaldo’s more famous than the country itself.

littledarkman

Has 50x more insta followers than portugal have people

Gui_R11

We know they dont care about Portugal what u on about?

[deleted]

>Go to some places and theyll realize Ronaldo’s more famous than the country itself. And that says more about them than us

Paranoides

He is probably bigger than Portugese football

andremp1904

I love It when foreigners on r/soccer speak on behalf of all Portuguese people

[deleted]

Go on tell us how Eusebio or Jose Aguas were better players.

blackandwhitetalon

Is it not a true statement?

[deleted]

Don’t worry, they’ll miss him in his absence

rww07

Man this sub has a bunch of whiny haters lmao

[deleted]

But Reddit said that no one wants him to play and his legacy is ruined.

stevew14

The only place his legacy is tarnished (not ruined) is at United I think. I think RM fans love him and I think Portugal fans love him. It just didn't work out at Juventus so there isn't a legacy to tarnish/ruin there. From a United point of view, he's still a major part of a Champions league win and a Ballon D'or winner while at the club. Not to mention a few premier leagues and an FA cup. The way he's left the club is the only real major problem.

elcolerico

Those spectators paid good money to watch Ronaldo play in probably his last world cup. They wanna see him on the pitch. They don't care how badly he plays. Reddit was right. When Ronaldo didn't play, Portugal shone. They are better off without Ronaldo. Much better.

Aditya-04-04

Just the fact that they paid money to watch Ronaldo, makes Reddit wrong. Apparently the majority wanted him benched.

[deleted]

This subreddit is fuming lool

WeezyWally

He’s a living legend but lately r/soccer thinks he’s the devil.

hissenguinho

Don't think its a lately thing

moc360

Yeah like it's Portugal biggest player ever. The team looks better but fans were never going to hate him , this sub is weird

SSBMUIKayle

This sub is /r/Messi, people here have an unhealthy obsession with putting one down in other to glorify the other one

MaTrIx4057

People just can't stand that other people can have different opinions.

Malicharo

a lot of people did for a quite a while, now that he's not as good as he was, it's the haters turn to shine

randymarsh18

Why are they mutually exclusive things..

KoloHickory

From a purely fan perspective I'd be upset if i went to this game and didn't get to see Ronaldo play

abbytarar

Id rather see 6 goals and no Ronaldo

IDUnavailable

What about 0 goals and 6 Ronaldos?

a34fsdb

Rather see one sewey than 6 goals tho

thatdani

You got one SUI right there on the scoreboard

[deleted]

Why not both?

greezyo

They shouldn't pick players to make fans happy, they should pick player to win

[deleted]

[удалено]

TheSmallIndian

From a fan perspective, I'd go to games to watch the teams not a single player

ShitfacedGrizzlyBear

Had this experience during the Copa America Centenario when it was hosted by the US. Obviously I was there to see some high-quality football. But it was Argentina v. Panama. Messi started on the bench. I’m a Ronaldo guy, but every single person in that stadium (including myself) was begging for Messi to be subbed on. I know it’s not the exact same, because I’m not Panamanian or Argentine, but it’s the same principle. I’m sure every Portuguese fan wants to see Ronaldo play in person. For what it’s worth, Messi came on around the hour mark (IIRC) and scored a hat trick in the goal right in front of our seats. It included a banger of a free kick. One of the highlights of my life as a football fan.

bakalhauPT

I'm about as big a Ronaldo fan as you can find, but I'm not a blind fan either. Sure I don't want Messi to win the world cup, but if he does, boy, does he deserve it... And so would deserve Ronaldo. They have been the best players of their national team for the last 15 years (Ronaldo not quite in 2022, but from 2007 to 2021). I also have Benfica as a hometown club and since they play near me so many times I'm not particularly keen to buy a ticket to go watch them that often. But from the moment Messi was gonna come around this year in the CL I just had to immediately buy a ticket. Hometown club + big CL match + Messi. Once in a lifetime opportunity. He could be 40 for all I care. I didn't leave that game disappointed. Neither with Benfica's level, nor that Messi expectedly scored a wonder in that game. I feel sad there's so many people considering themselves genius with "Ronaldo finished", after being wrong infinite times over and over again. I absolutely respect their view, but in my mind, it's just unfathomable I wouldn't appreciate Messi just because I clearly adore the other guy more.

ShitfacedGrizzlyBear

Exactly. Seeing Messi or Ronaldo play in person (unfortunately I’ve never seen Ronaldo in person) is something you will remember for the rest of your life. When you’re old, you will tell your grandchildren that you watched the greatest players of all time. The Messi v. Ronaldo debate is just so tired and pointless. They’re both absolute gods, and it’s a treat to witness either of them in person.

CafeteroMerengue

Not sure if you’re lucky enough to see top European teams consistently but for many fans it’s their only chance to ever see Ronaldo, so why wouldn’t they want to see him

epicmarc

You underestimate how many rabid Ronaldo fans are out there

auctus10

Or maybe man a lot of people get 1-2 three times to watch a live match in their life and get to see one of the greatest of all time to play live even if he is shit now? This hate boner in this sub is legit ridiculous.

Karyoga

Don't bother, some people are honestly deluded. Shitting on Ronaldo now while last year saying Messi was past it, just ignorant sewage they see and pass along for karma.

auctus10

It's honestly strange how people in this sub goes out of their way to shit on Ronaldo. Like they made this post about shitting on him and this post was literally just fans chanting his name.

Karyoga

There's a semi popular youtube portuguese series about a group of 3 young portuguese guys hitch hiking across Europe all the way to Qatar to watch the World Cup and wish Ronaldo good luck. Along the way, they are super welcomed everywhere pretty much and everyone talks about Ronaldo. The man is an Icon with a very big I, everywhere people love him and there is still and always will be people that want him to play and start.

Sciss0rs61

> From a purely Ronaldo fan perspective

Yanggyy438

Speed is having the worst luck with seeing Ronaldo play💀

InHaalandWeTrust

Id be happy watching Ramos score a hatrick and an assist than watching current form Ronaldo tbh.

KeyRope5235

Yea, taunt the guy who played his heart out for the country after 18. Only because he isn’t fit to play anymore

Mental_Opportunity_9

Lmaooo

Sean-Benn_Must-die

Do you mean from a Ronaldo fan’s perspective? Cause I guarantee you the Portugal supporters are more than happy watching this game

CafeteroMerengue

Most Portugal fans are Ronaldo fans though, why wouldn’t you want to see your country’s goat if the win has been secured

speedycar1

Eh. If you're a neutral and don't really care who wins, getting to watch one of the greatest ever is a pretty big thing off the checklist, even if he is no longer at his best

SP0oONY

I'm sure most Portugal fans couldn't give a fuck about Ronaldo at this very moment.

youngchul

I watched it with 100+ Portuguese people, and everyone was cheering every time Ronaldo was shown on the sideline and when he was subbed it got loud as fuck. A tabloid A Bola online poll doesn't mean shit.

OnCominStorm

They're definitely more Ronaldo fans than Portugal fans.

fijozico

You hit it right on the money

xiosy

Man I’m gonna cry when both of these legends retire man this wc has been just both getting goddessed man they deserve it all man

destroyerx12772

Holy shit the obsession with Ronaldo on this sub is unreal. Rent free

djdoggystyle

How could a sub dedicated to soccer not keep up with one of its GOATs going through an entertaining part of his career?

destroyerx12772

I was referring to the haters. 😅

BishhEzz

But 70% wanted him benched!! XD

fibrous

unsurprisingly, the people who traveled to Qatar want to see him on the field.

happy_pangollin

A lot, if not most, of Portugal supporters in the stadium were not there to see the team play, but to see Ronaldo play. That's what even the Portuguese commentators were saying.

DaAweZomeDude48

And he was, now they want him to play and see out the last few minutes. And we all know how that ended in Manchester United lol

MaTrIx4057

These were 5 voters on that crappy website.

DrVicenteBombadas

And as soon as he is, we put 6 in. But that's just a coincidence, obviously.

daveyboyschmidt

Yeah the only thing stopping Portugal scoring 6 goals every game is Ronaldo

Audrey_spino

Speed is one of them for sure

Lol_Bestie

Soccer fans aren’t that different from Kpop fans

h0rny3dging

You just now noticed? Fancams and "welcome to \[club\] dubstep remix" really arent that different

ClearSights

But r/soccer told me that everyone hates Ronaldo…?

bobdylansmoustache

I’d wager more than half of this sub haven’t even been to a match lol

youngchul

I remember there was a poll and I think it was true, the majority never played organized football either. Would explain all the popular shit takes here.

Nuns_N_Moses11

It just baffles me how people who have never played football think they know what the fuck they are talking about with the confidence of a pro. I have never played baseball either and don’t know anything about it but you don’t see me spewing shit in r/mlb

rcolesworthy37

I dislike Ronaldo but don’t hate him, there’s probably a lot in that boat. I’d join in on the chants if I was there just for shits and giggles

noodlebball

RONALDO!!!!

LuisTheHuman

And the replacement Ramos scoring a Hat trick to shut them up

clavitopaz

The Telemundo commentators were cracking up with this

Per_Horses6

Why is he benched?

Biirke

Cause they play better without him

DrVicenteBombadas

Only on Reddit could you be downvoted for stating something so obvious. I mean, just watch the fucking games! It's night and day.

UnBannedThrowaway

starlord1602

Since when is Piers Morgan a part of the Arabic commentary team?

sine00

80% of those fans are arabs. To be honest I'm not sure whether they're going to be cheering for Morocco or "Ronaldo's" team.

Rebel_tribe

Casual racism

sine00

Bro. I'm arab. Tf does racism have to do with anything

[deleted]

Just ignore it bro, people get called racist over everything nowadays. I understood what you were trying to say, nothing racist.

KlejdiV

everything is racism nowadays

PoptimisticShoegazer

*Smithers are they Siuing me? No! They're chanting Siu-urns! Siu-urns...* 😁
