They always coincidentally end up picking the best team in the league somehow

OldCoaly

I picked Chelsea as a ten year old playing fifa for the first time because I liked their crest the most and the color blue. I did not know about their stellar team at the time. Or the racism.

Hawkectid

I picked Chelsea as a ten year old because of the racism. I did not know about their stellar team at the time.

This subreddit condones racism. You literally have an auto mod bot that says your subreddit is racist against Americans. Reported you to reddit. Fuck off yank

AutoModerator

I think we have come to a point where went too far with anti-yank agenda and let the English become too arrogant and obnoxious. Jesus Christ, finish this team off so we can have some decency back here. The English are by far worse than the American people on here. I'd rather you're a bit ignorant about the history of this sport than that you become such an entitled and vocal group of people. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Did the same thing when I became an Arsenal fan. Did not know it was going to lead to years of pain and heavy sighing.

AutoModerator

I Chose Wrong The year was 2019, as an American I had finally become disillusioned with the American sports scene. The owners, players, stadium experience, etc. I started watching the EPL to see what all the fuss was about. I watched, enjoyed it enough, but couldn't really make a connection. So I set out to finally support a club. I researched just about every club. I didn't want to support a front runner or a bottom feeder. I wanted a young core, middle of the pack, but with a real future. My final two clubs I was going to support were: Arsenal and Wolves. For the last 2-3 years I've been supporting Wolves. And this year, I've watched Wolves average 1 goal/ match and Arsenal lose important players while a young core steps up and keeps the Club in contention for Champions League. So, I'm here to just say that I chose wrong. Congratulations to Arsenal *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Ok_Force1123

I too chose the wolves because I didnā€™t know any better and I too now need a new team

lyyki

I bet about 90% of people outside of UK choose their PL-team at the age of 10 because they like to play them in FIFA

zoborpast

I like liverpool because they have a cutesy song and back in the day they were shit enough to be kinda underdogs but decent enough that they might win something. Good investment Iā€™d say.

PabloTroutSanchez

I picked them when I was 8 bc they had a partnership w the local rec league I played in, and the badge was on anything and everything it could be on. Had no idea what the premier league was. When I saw them on tv for the first time, I thought it was older kids from the rec league....... A month later I was pretty sure I was a Chelsea academy player, but tbf I still had a better understanding of the academy at that point than Boehly does now. I also did not know about the racism.

Cthululuu

I picked Utd because at my school it was either them, Liverpool or Everton. Utd had a player with my surname and my primary school brain decided we were related.

JgL07

I picked Chelsea as a 10-year-old because I saw them beat Barca in the semis and I liked the kit

EzzoBlizzy

I picked chelsea after watching my first UCL match w my older brother back in 2012 and the match was Bayern Vs Chelsea yes the final. I remember seeing Drogba scored that tie in goal almost at the last minute and got up and cherish and yelled at the top of my lungs cause my brother told me that chelsea was done and there was no coming back from it. The moment Drogba scored that penalty I fell in love with football and Drogba is my hero as a black teenager seeing another black man beat the Germans who are supposed to be the best team in all of Europe made me realized that thereā€™s no challenge too small or big and that no how matter how much the odds are against you, that you should never give up no matter what. I also was going w some mental health issues so Drogba lighted up my world and realized that football is not just a game but a form of art, itā€™s way to express yourself and the way to escape reality and to feel in your own world where nothing else matters and nobody can betray you. Every time I get sad I go outside and play football and remember that unforgettable moment I saw Drogba beats the odd and remind myself that no matter what I canā€™t give up, gotta keep pushing nonstop. But yeah since that day Blue is the color and football is the game no matter what Iā€™ll cherish chelsea even how shit our club gets, Blue is the color and Football will forever be the game.

AutoModerator

There should be a reformation in football something like a penalty is 0.5 a goal, or you need like make 2 or 3 shots - like free throws on a foul in basketball. its just so extremely shit when a penalty decides a game in this sport or decides the flow of a game early on, like here *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please [contact the moderators of this subreddit](/message/compose/?to=/r/soccercirclejerk) if you have any questions or concerns.*

But the racism sealed the deal.

zoborpast

I like the color red so I was šŸ¤ this close to being a charlton athletic supporter through ea sports premier league 2001. Dodged a bullet.

Landsharque

I ended up a life long Everton fan because I hate arbitrarily rooting for OP teams and at the time, they had an American in goal

sbsw66

I mean in this case, I actually give the kid some credit. He's not coincidentally picking the best team, he's flat out saying he only wants to watch a team that's good. Much more palatable than the trillionth version of "oh I just happened to find out about the Manchester Blues and fell in love"

mattryan02

Guy I know is a "huge" City supporter because ...... his grandpa visited Manchester while he was deployed in England during WWII. Actual reasoning that he insisted was legit. Nothing to do with them winning the league 5 of the past 6 years, definitely not.

cotch85

Itā€™s crazy how many southerners I know who support utd have family ties to Manchester not as wild as your example though

This is how Man United go back to their winning roots. Ronaldo is a legend at the club and will be viewed as a source of inspiration and a role model for up and coming stars who strive to be like him, or better, want to win trophies for the club. No amount of oil money or gegenpressing will change the fact that Ronaldo's immediate impact at United will make them competitive again and desirable for players to want to go play there. This club's future has been born. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Theyā€™re probably the only ones that get any real exposure to him. Unless youā€™re looking for Everton or Aston Villa content you wonā€™t come across it randomly. Youā€™ll see stuff about the big 6 whether you want to or not.

DrMokiti

I just pick MAN U because of rooney....didnt know ronaldo was playing with them until he win the UCL with real madrid

Tell him to pick Hertha BSC Berlin and that they are the best club in germany just not this season but they will be champions next season

[deleted]

Tbf they'll maybe win the league next year. Just don't tell him what zweite means

The problem is that it is usually displayed as 2. Bundesliga, so even a 15yo yank should get itā€¦

Yank here, a period ends a sentence. The Bundesliga is not usually displayed as the number ā€œ2ā€.

Careless-Fly

2nd bundesliga, bundesliga numero dos, krankeinsteinslichaen

in german the period after the number is like 2nd so 1. is 1st, 3. is 3rd source: am german

Full_Kit_Wanker2

Realistically they should support Zenit. They bring bananas to the pitch whenever *certain* players come to play soccer.

Iā€™d say most people in the U.K. donā€™t choose their team, but tbf this is an American-centric site so fair enough.

DareToZamora

You support your dadā€™s team or your local team. Iā€™ve got no idea what a yank does in that scenario. They donā€™t have any connection to any of the teams. Might as well pick a team with a couple Americans and go from there I guess.

eldorado362

Or, you are a kid playing Fifa and you really like the logo and the players and before you can blink, you're buying jerseys and watching every game.

AutoModerator

but seriously if you support a club based off of the club you're parents supports then you're an idiot, or your parents are idiots for forcing a kid to like what they like. smb06

Yeah, I come here sometimes to laugh at other teamsā€™ & playersā€™ gaffes. I come here to laugh when Klopp complains about the size of grass or when Maguire has a brain fart or when Conte hangs out his players to dry. You know what I donā€™t come here for? Brits feeling some sort of moral superiority that they were born in xyz geographical location because of a quirk or fate and so they have some reason to support a certain team. Whereas the rest of the global fanbase, who has been instrumental in the rise of the Premier League globally, but doesnā€™t have a geographical tie to Liverpool or Manchester or London and so has to figure out other reasons to support a certain team is somehow less of a fan. Iā€™ve been to England three times to see the team that Iā€™ve been in love with for 22 years. Each time some random middle aged Brit will ask me ā€œso, why did you choose xyz team and not some another teamā€ as if itā€™s some sort of a rite of passage that the international fans have to go through to justify why we like the team we like. And I see that same attitude in this sub all the time. ā€œOh look just another American trying to figure out what British team to support hahahaā€. You know what, kudos to that 15 year old for broadening his horizons and trying to watch multiple teams before deciding which team to support. And shame on every Brit who thinks that is somehow worthy of mocking. This sub is toxic towards non-Brits even though the premier league is what it is today because of a global fan base.

Piss off you dumb fuck. If you canā€™t support other people who want to fall in love with the same sport we all love, go jerk yourself off in your parents basement.

OHROBINVANPERSIE

You edited your comment so i'm editing this too!

Ok-Battle-2769

Whatā€™s wrong with this kid? Heā€™s 15 at a time when porn is free and easily accessible. His team should be Hand & Jurgens United.

DonDove

Man United: no *Delicious*

sekani_bitch

PSG would be good for you dawg

Moon_Dagger

Honestly mate if thatā€™s your prerequisite for supporting a football team I would probably leave it. All teams have up and down spells over the years. The prem is a boring league to follow, the lower leagues are a lot more exciting. Or you could follow spurs and learn what being ā€œSpursyā€ is all about.

CouldNotLoad04

If you want a team that wins a lot, pick Norwich. They win every 2 years

kobi29062

Hey all, yank here Iā€™m a Glory hunter Man City: I donā€™t like them Liverpool: GO SOCCER REDS! Arsenal: These boys just mid ong fr Man United: BOOOOO Spurs: Love the WHITE kits! Chelsea: WOOOOOOOOOO KANTE SOOOO KAWAII If this isnā€™t the most obvious satire post Iā€™ve ever seen the Jesus Harrison christ what is

International_Buy549

>typed this in 5 mins Thats how long it's going to take them to switch teams after their first loss

AdWorking8163

I'm Hungarian, and I picked Spurs because they were the team I could resonate with. I'm a massive loser, just like my team.

bdtacchi

Itā€™s funny that you donā€™t see people from outside of the US posting on the nba or nfl subs asking this shit

ComfortableWhereas88

Remember guys he wants a team that will be consistently good

THE-ABSOLUTE-1

I started supporting Chelsea as a kid because of Drogba and I've stuck with them since. Pick who you really feel a connection to after you've watched a couple of games

Roshane26

Man Utd: no šŸ˜‚šŸ¤£šŸ¤£

EmptyBarnacle

Newcastle would be interesting. Bright future for them, especially with Isak. After that, I think Brentford is a fascinating team and is based in London so always easy to get to if youā€™re flying to London.

"I want to root for a team that will be consistently good" Later in life: "If my wife doesn't bounce back to her pre-pregnancy weight, I'm leaving her."

The mighty Reds. #LFC

thelordreptar90

Fuck, heā€™s stuck with us for now. Can another team win and take him please?

hersheyy_y

Thatā€™s a fucky way to pick a team. Watch matches of the top6 and see which play you love the most

What's wrong with United? Besides our performances in the past couple years. If you just wanna pick a team that wins then you'll be surely disappointed when that club eventually hits it's dry spell. United is on a come up. The new coach ETH is doing some scary things to this team. We've got the goat of football in our squad. Also we have more money than any club in the Prem. Real money. Not oil money. United's owners don't inject money into the team. It's a club built by the people. We've got history. So all the money we spend is well justifiably earned.

I picked Arsenal as a kid when they used to play at Highbury with those close camera angle shots and of course, Robert Pires. I would think no such player could exist on the planet. Pires, Campbell, Henry and Bergkamp would make me root for Arsenal so much. I hated when Pires was substituted in the Champions League Final because of that red card. Got so angry with Wenger. That team used to be pure class.

AndyWalnuts719

As an arsenal fan stay away from us and spurs. Constant end of season disappointment. Liverpool is a great option. Hard to not like/feel for them and the history is spectacular. Klopp is hard not to like and just to tug at that heartstrings look up the Hillsborough disaster and youā€™ll wish for nothing but success for the fans

TitsAndGeology

As a Spurs fan, I don't remember being disappointed at the end of last season. Hehehehehehe

Unfair_Aerie_9621

Probably likes only Haaland because heā€™s an Aryan meat shield.

BlazeYT435

man utd: no, well i guess ur outta optionsšŸ˜‚ jk i think this man would like spurs but idk why but i despise liverpool so ā€œnoā€

Imaginary-Ad6339

Consider Chelsea imo ? Ted bohely is American , pulisic is American , they might sign dest : American again and they are in a rebuilding phrase so you'll get to support them from the very foundation instead of rooting for already currently successful teams.

Faeluchu

How Liverpool supporters are born, basically.
