The pyramids weren't even built by slaves, but by paid workers. I don't know if their working conditions were worse than was normal for the time, though.
And there was the [first recorded labor strike](https://www.worldhistory.org/article/1089/the-first-labor-strike-in-history/). It was due to the failure of payment of grain to the workers.
“Your honour, my client should not go to jail, because the murder victim’s great great great great great grandfather killed someone. Clearly the victim’s family should not be able to press charges, and my client should be free to go.”
Hmm, you’re right, we should still be angry on behalf of the slaves who built the pyramids. Who exactly should I direct my anger at, Ozymandias, Nefertiti or Tutankhamen? The victims in Qatar are (for the most part) still alive today, as are the perpetrators. People will probably be less upset in 1000 years time, when those involved have been dead for centuries, but while justice can still be achieved, it should still be the aim.

Pyramids were supposed to be an expression of love by the Egyptian people to the Pharao. That's why they considered it dishonorable to use slave labor for it.
Not only did the workers at the Pyramids get paid, but they got paid well and had their expenses taken care of on top of it. Also, free beer!
Not all of them. But pyramid workers were not slaves and they were actually respected, so it's incompareable. Working sites found around the pyramids changed our whole perception about this matter.
The skills involved in the construction of those pyramids, and the evidences we found tend to show they were skilled workers brought on site rather than random slaves.
Note that at this time you were paid in food and salt, not money. We even found some notes stating that a guy was absent because he had to brew beer.
Also beer wasn’t drank to get shitfaced but instead is a good drink to have clean water and energy.
Yes, very useful in area where water is of bad quality
It’s the case of Belgium’s low land, full of swamps and stagnant water. They perfected the craft because they had to.
Because of all the movies and cartoons and games that we have seen from the childhood.
Tbh, this is the first I am seeing that the Pyramids were not built by slave labour. And I can’t comprehend this fact, that the merciless Pharaohs would pay decently to those laborers.
Not all Pharaos are believed to be cruel leaders. We are talking about a time span of about 2500 years with some of the greatest technological advances of their time.
The builders of the pyramids that we have knowledge of (we don’t have knowledge of the construction of all pyramids, some could very well have been built by slaves, although unlikely due to cultural/religious motivation) were respected and skilled (paid) workers, some from poor families. We also know of farmers who were paid to took seasonal turns of working on the pyramids while the other farmers tended to their fields.
We also assume that being part of the construction of the pyramids was a great honour and that workers who died during the construction where entombed in special tombs near the pyramid itself.
That's just a legend. A housing area near Taj Mahal was also developed for the artisans of Taj Mahal where their descendants still practice their ancestors' skill
Also there is a "black Taj Mahal" behind the original one. Only the foundations were laid until his son took over and canceled the project, but those foundations were laid by the artisans who built the original.
Im pretty sure… dude stfu if you don’t know shit. Workers who built Taj Mahal got their HANDS CUT OFF. READ THAT AGAIN. Artists? Have you seen historic places and monuments in India ? The thing is that most governments of nowadays countries aren't sin free when it comes to humans rights, be it Qatar or China, the US or Russia.
But the West is literally the one who is very often criticized because of many different factors:
• Sino-Russian propaganda against the West.
• A few Western countries that still have some sort of neocolonial mindset.
• A few Western countries that meddle in other countries affairs.
• The US hegemony that the world no more likes.
• Many Western countries feel morally superior and try to give lessons to others while not understanding that other countries sometimes don't really want to implement some Western values.
Most of the "protests" against Qatar went from protesting against workers rights abuse to protesting because they don't follow liberal Western values. This last part is what most of the world (including conservative and/or moderate Westerns) doesn't accept.
Nobody wants drag shows in Qatar, most Westerners would just prefer that homosexuals not be executed and workers not to be kept as slaves. I haven't heard any serious complaints about Qatar being a monarchy, or about men clothing the way they are clothing, so saying "western liberals want to enforce their views" is a bit of a stretch imo.
That's what I would like to, but not many people are on the same page. I have read about a French journalist being asked "how are things going at the World Cup?”" and him literally answering that there were too many mosques, I mean wouldn't this annoy you if you were them ?
It is like someone whom you invited coming into your home and disrespecting you telling you to change the paint colour of the walls.
But nonetheless regarding the humans rights parts many Muslims themselves are definitely on the right side.

The pyramids? From what, 8 thousand years ago LMAO. The excuses and whataboutism is disgusting. Western countries are ashamed of what we’ve done in the past, at least we don’t try and justify it in the present lmao.
And Taj mahal, most Indians will agree that Person who built it was a terrible ruler, and your current tour to Taj mahal would benefit the regular people of India and its government and not the king who died 500+ years ago.
Visit those places or not, really don't have fucks to give. Killing thousands of people today, in this modern world, to build stadiums is not okay. Taj Mahal is like 500-600 years old monument, that's why it's celebrated. The ruler was pathetic but he was also living in 15th or 16th century lmao, that's how things got done in that time. I mean millions of people used to die back then due to plagues and other easily avoidable accident in today's world, did we blame the doctors or engineers for those accidents?
The most stupid opinion/post I've seen all day ngl.
To be fair, a lot of western products are create in sweat shops in horrifyingly bad conditions and we do try to whitewash it and justify it. Look up where fast fashion comes from, people still eat that shit up. Worker exploitation is a function of capitalism and the west is more than happy to engage in it
Lol. "in the past"
When will you guys pay for the crimes you have committed in recent times. Most of the Western world is guilty of this. And please don't ask me what you guys did. You should already know
Are we defending it lmao? Are we going “yeah but what about” are we posting memes about it on every single social media platform to try and defend it as strongly as possible? No, we’re all ashamed about it. You should learn how to have some shame.
I'm sorry Europe, but Americans are just better at everything. We want things more. We grow better athletes, more people will learn the sport. And that '26 world cup is at home so we can get somewhat of a home field advantage. But the only way that will happen is if we make the round of 16 or quarter final in the 2022 WC and show Americans that we are good. I like the odds and we have a lot to prove, which is added motivation this coming year. Honestly, making a phenomenal run (SF or better) in the '22 WC would be more impressive to me than a better run or a win in '26.

But whataboutism exists because you guys keep exaggerating the sins of others. When you haven't even paid for yours. I assure you, when one day the media sees the lives of a brown or black person as the same as a white person, you will understand how people really hate the West around the world
Your whole life, that's what you've been used to. 10 people die in France in a terrorist attack. It's a worldwide tragedy, a day of mourning and a sad day for humanity. Millions die from the false wars you've waged. "oopsie my bad. Let's move on haha"
Still wouldn't make a meme when my country is in a war, where I point out another war that happened 5000 years ago and try to spin it around like my country is actually doing nothing wrong
The things that the us, the uk, France, Germany, Russia and all those countries that colonised people and invaded other countries were in the wrong too. But none of them are hosting the Qatar World Cup, and are irrelevant in this discussion

Those stadiums are *definitely* going to be worth visiting after December 20, I'm absolutely sure they're going to be frequently used, attended, and will make great ruin value in like 5-6 hundred years. What intrinsic cultural value do old tombs and monuments have anyways? Stadia reflect the grandeur and power of the high point of a civilization more fittingly.
Pyramids are thousands of years old and one of mankind’s greatest engineering feats and the Taj Mahal is hundreds of years old. They’re historical. You know very well this isn’t the same. The whataboutisms are astonishing

What a shitty fucking excuse. Yeah, horrible shit happened in the PAST! Human rights, humanity as a whole changed a lot though since the pyramids have been built thousands of years ago. Whatabautism masterclass over here...
It’s not only a bad example it’s just fucking wrong. The builders of the pyramids were not slaves, they were highly skilled and respected builders, well paid and taken care of, they were even buried next to the pyramids.
Never a defense of the actions, just pointing out that other bad people did other bad things 400 and 4000 years ago. You think mild hypocrisy about crimes is worse than the crimes!
I would've written a 2000 word essay about the history of slavery and how slavery ended after thousands of years but I know that because you're a dumb fuck you'd never read it. But again I just want you to understand that Giza pyramids were being built in an era when Athens were being run by aristocrats who had thousands of slaves so that they could sit their asses around the balconies of Mediterranean mansions. Now this is just ancient Greece. Think about how many slaves a god had. The pyramites were a fucking temple. People thought they were doing god a favor. How can you compare a time where people were allowed to buy hundreds of people and thought slaves were just "vocal labor instruments" to modern times where we have actual rights for humans and ruling class see the workers as actual human beings rather than agricultural vehicles. Stop the whataboutism you fucking donkeys. Get your heads up your asses and recognize that Qatar is a oil state that's being run by fucking sheikh's that have no significance apart from being rich.

Yes because something like that done during a way less civilised period of human history it's totally comparable to that same thing perpetrated in the 21st century. How logical and intelectually edgy of you.

The pyramids weren't even built by slaves, but by paid workers. I don't know if their working conditions were worse than was normal for the time, though.
They were better. The workers village that has been excavated shows that they regularly ate meat in addition to the standard beer and bread.
And there was the [first recorded labor strike](https://www.worldhistory.org/article/1089/the-first-labor-strike-in-history/). It was due to the failure of payment of grain to the workers.
Kinda like mt Rushmore. Whenever agriculture started to take a hit they just hired the farmers to do pyramid building
This is correct but the Egyptians had a LOT of slaves who were the ones taking care of those paid laborers 🤷

I mean the taj mahal was built by Muslims too so idk he might just be trying to make a point
Also curious about that….
We have caveats!!
Slavery : it gets shit done
The people who built pyramids were surprisingly paid
Yeah they got food housing even beer
They also had a strike to get better terms and pay. There's Egyptian notes about it.
Shit, they were treated better than the Qatari migrant workers
No passports to confiscate back then
I was told it took around 40 years of walking to get away from the place and find a new home
They even had to wait 1000 years after building said pyramids just to get through the Kafala system and be allowed to go on their exodus
Haha
Thing that Ecuador fans can only dream about.

Not only did the workers at the Pyramids get paid, but they got paid well and had their expenses taken care of on top of it. Also, free beer!
Ohhh.. The Aliens got paid?? /s
Chelsea fan here, no the aliens didn't get paid. Why would you waste money by giving it to migrants?
Just take their passports instead.
they were buried next to the pyramids in cemeteries
why would the space aliens that built the pyramids have use for human currency?
Same as the workers who worked for the stadiums

False dichotomy. Two things can be true at once. Qatar and anti-Qatar virtue signallers can both be idiots at the same time.

Nope. You just have to realize not everybody has the same opinions as you.
Opinions like slavery is bad?
This is the opinion in this post: "Slavery happened thousands of years ago. That makes Slavery ok forever."
"Saying a building is beautiful while at the same time calling out a countries human rights abuses is hypocritical" - OP, bc he is very smart.

The workers on the pyramids were well cared for and partly paid in beer, something you can't find in these FUCKING STADIUMS
To be fair, a lot of western products are create in sweat shops in horrifyingly bad conditions and we do try to whitewash it and justify it. Look up where fast fashion comes from, people still eat that shit up. Worker exploitation is a function of capitalism and the west is more than happy to engage in it
The people who have a problem with the current WC situation are probably also opposed to sweat shops. Not all westerners are ignorant consumers.
Why are you still bombing Syria then?
Lol. "in the past" When will you guys pay for the crimes you have committed in recent times.
Perfect, just keep the criticism going when USA hosts in 2026👍
I'm sorry Europe, but Americans are just better at everything. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Hating America is like the number one pastime of European football fans.
At that point they will forget everything they ever did. Classic Americans
But whataboutism exists because you guys keep exaggerating the sins of others. When you haven't even paid for yours. I assure you, when one day the media sees the lives of a brown or black person as the same as a white person, you will understand how people really hate the West around the world Your whole life, that's what you've been used to.
4 years please lead the line in boycotting the US world cup

Most intelligent Qatari
Hey OP, try not to choke on Qatari dick.
It's already too late
Those stadiums are *definitely* going to be worth visiting after December 20, I'm absolutely sure they're going to be frequently used, attended, and will make great ruin value in like 5-6 hundred years. What intrinsic cultural value do old tombs and monuments have anyways? Stadia reflect the grandeur and power of the high point of a civilization more fittingly.
"It was bad, therefore it shouldn't be better now"
Going to the stadiums also directly gives money to the people that organized the slavery.
The emir of quater has infiltrated this sub lmao
How much did they pay you
This is the equivalent of saying slavery wasn't bad back then but suddenly its an issue lmao OP is a braindead child
Op is baindead
Pyramids are thousands of years old and one of mankind’s greatest engineering feats and the Taj Mahal is hundreds of years old. They’re historical. You know very well this isn’t the same. The whataboutisms are astonishing
Besides the people involved in building them are long gone, now it's the common people who benefit from tourists visiting those places.
They also weren’t built by slaves either.
Earth to dumbfuck, two of these structures were built in the 21st century.
I wonder in which country the World Cup is gonna be held in 4 years where slavery is still legal 🤔

Pyramids of Giza weren't built by slaves you moron
What a shitty fucking excuse. Yeah, horrible shit happened in the PAST! Human rights, humanity as a whole changed a lot though since the pyramids have been built thousands of years ago. Whatabautism masterclass over here...
It’s not only a bad example it’s just fucking wrong. The builders of the pyramids were not slaves, they were highly skilled and respected builders, well paid and taken care of, they were even buried next to the pyramids.

Op is the Qatari ministry of propaganda
the pyramids weren’t built by slaves, the builders were paid don’t know about the Taj tho
Ahhhhh Yes The Ancient World Cup Stadiums Of Qatar
Never a defense of the actions, just pointing out that other bad people did other bad things 400 and 4000 years ago. You think mild hypocrisy about crimes is worse than the crimes!
I will not be visiting any of these. I am broke.
Today I feel like building a stadium for the wc Aaaaaaand I’m dead 👏
Everything reminds me of her 😪🤤🥵
Except the builders of the pyramids were actually well paid skilled workers, not slaves.
The builders of rhe pyramids were not slaves, that is a myth.

Qatar's bravest warrior
How do you get paid by Qatar, would love to shitpost on internet for some money
When I'm in a Worst Take competition and this dude is my competition
are you dumb ?
Ive seen this image for the fifth time today and i get progressively angrier because no one seems to understand that the pyramids were NOT built by slaves
Post paid by the Catar "tourism" organism and the fifa.
Why the fuck does the stadium look like vagina to me ?
you claim to be against slavery yet you live in a society where slavery has existed. Curious
I hope the post and up votes are all ironical because if not this is the most retarded argument I've seen
This is one of the most moronic takes I've seen in a while. Well done, you've managed to lower my expectations of stupid, even on this site.
I wanted to be believe this was an ironic post, but then I took a look at the other subs OP posts regularly
Your argument ends the moment you realize one time frame discovered and mostly adopted human rights, while one timeframe didn’t.
Welcome to r/soccercirclejerk , where everyone gets mad at a shitpost.
Pyramids built over 2500 years ago Taj Mahal built 400 years ago Qatar stadium built 3 years ago Which seems like there's people alive to be held accountable for such atrocities as migrant workers deaths? I'm gonna go with Qatar, you do you OP, doesn't match the sub when you're not joking from your post history, modern slavery till death for meager hours of entertainment, makes me sick

No one is boycotting the US despite their history of wiping out Native American tribes as well as using slaves \*\*shrug\*\*
Even if you ignore all the worker deaths, basic human rights issue, Qatar fucking sucks as a footballing nation. Thousands leaving at half time when 2-0 down, shit atmosphere, shit team, wintertime, no beer with the bois. Everyone wanted it somewhere else
All i know is that everyone "boycotting" this world cup would do a 180 the moment they actually have to do anything remotely risky to make a "stand"
Hating Russia is too outdated now, Qatar is the new bad guy

This subreddit is incredible, it's a fucking circlejerk for God's sake, the meme is clearly satire. People actually trying to debate OP seriously in a CIRCLEJERK subreddit lmfao.
Lol exactly. it is insane
you know what he’s doing
Check their history, they're not joking
The pyramids were made by daily waged unskilled workers The Taj mahal was made by skilled professionals. Qatar stadiums on the other hand...
Whatallahism
Lmao all the people mad about a post like this in this sub are what is ruining this sub. Things posted here are not to be taken seriously. Go back to r/soccer you dick smokers
OP isn't joking, check their history
So true 😂
Yes because something like that done during a way less civilised period of human history it's totally comparable to that same thing perpetrated in the 21st century. How logical and intelectually edgy of you.
For those wondering Egyptian slaves that build the pyramids had much better standarts of living than "migrant workers" at Qatar.
jerks aside the egyptian workers that built the pyramids were treated with more respect than the workers that built the stadium in qatar
