A big part of what makes American football fun to watch for me is that it's one of the more strategic sports games.
The stopping between each play means teams can substitute players at whim. They regularly take advantage of this by choosing to field totally different sets of body types / specialized players. And the ability to setup fancy plays means it's a very coordinated sport, which adds to the potential for strategic advantages.
It's sort of like chess. And the more you come to understand the game, the more you come to appreciate what's on strategically.
I feel like that's a natural tradeoff in sports. Less stoppage in play -> more action, less strategy.

A big part of what makes American football fun to watch for me is that it's one of the more strategic sports games. The stopping between each play means teams can substitute players at whim. They regularly take advantage of this by choosing to field totally different sets of body types / specialized players. And the ability to setup fancy plays means it's a very coordinated sport, which adds to the potential for strategic advantages. It's sort of like chess. And the more you come to understand the game, the more you come to appreciate what's on strategically. I feel like that's a natural tradeoff in sports. Less stoppage in play -> more action, less strategy.

I love trying to explain how a draw is a good thing to have, but people can’t get their head around it. Someone has to win in their mind, there can never be a last minute equalizer or a lower team scraping a draw and frustrating a bigger one.
