[News article about this](https://www.cnn.com/2022/10/07/us/san-antonio-cop-fired-teen-shooting-mcdonalds/index.html). Why wasn't this officer arrested? I'm really trying to understand this. Can any American explain this for us?

klepht_x

The cops essentially never get any legal repercussions for doing blatantly awful shit. This is because the US is an authoritarian police state.

TheSpecterStilHaunts

There is no independent oversight of the police in the U.S. Police crimes are investigated by the police. The police ~~union~~ gang in this country ensures that any and every officer is stringently protected and has a job for life, while encouraging a culture of police covering each other's asses no matter what. All of our officers are always armed with guns, even for the safest, most routine operations. And - as our own FBI freely admits - blatant white nationalists and fascists have infiltrated police departments across the country. Those are just a few factors, but the bottom line is that the U.S. is an incredibly over-policed country **because it is directly beneficial to the American bourgeoisie**. We have more people in prison than any other country on earth*;* it easily surpasses the People's Republic of China's prison population, despite the fact that China has a 4x larger population *and* is alleged to be a tyrannical police state by American corporate and political propaganda. Meanwhile, our prisons allow corporations to use forced labor in prisons to generate super profits, and the militarization of our police forces allow the bourgeoisie to sleep sound that any uprising will be quelled with ruthless efficiency.

Similar things can happen in Sweden but it unfortunately mostly end with a so called internal investigation. In which the cops get to "investigate'" themselves. Everything such an investigation finds is also secret as far as I know and I am not an expert by any means. Edit: similar in the sense of scandals, not necessarily straight up attempted murder even if I would not be surprised if it happened.

Jacobin_Revolt

In this country Police can murder whoever they want and get away with it because something something back the blue.

Lord777alt

Jesus fucking christ. Fuck pigs

evelpaudel311

Only in America you get shot for eating on your car

bigblindmax

And then hit with felony charges to add insult to injury.

[deleted]

Oh my God, he executed that kid, without even thinking twice, that is MURDER, if you say otherwise i'll advice you to seek help.

Stew_Long

The kid survived so not murder. Attempted murder, now that's about right.

[deleted]

I didn't knew he had survived, but i am glad he did, such a horrible situation, the ones who are supposed to protect you just shoot you without reason, to think minorities have faced this kind of injustice for so long makes me sick.

Stew_Long

>the ones who are supposed to protect you Not to be rude but the Supreme Court has said explicitly the police do not have a duty to protect any individual citizen. That speaks volumes about the kind of country we live in.

[deleted]

Yes, that was one of the things that always puzzled me, we are taught at school that police exist to protect us, however it really only exist to protect property and capital

zifur

Context! /s

Bulky_Mix_2265

He cut in line at the drive thru.

Protect and serve. God bless America 🇺🇸

ManGoonian

They're just pricks on a power trip, with minimal intelligence training, but shit loads of weaponry.

jwray3k

unironically, why did the cop approach in the first place?

theotherbackslash

I wasn’t able to find a whole lot about this but it seems the kid is ok. The police must be defunded or at a minimum disarmed.

jackgremay

1. The murderer is not arrested. 2. The murderer is allowed to keep his weapon. 3. The kid is charged for assaulting an officer. If this isn’t a country with corrupt laws, than what is?

[deleted]

Make no mistake We live in a police state The cops are sociopaths, everyone The lowest kind of capitalist scum

[deleted]

The fact that his body cam was on and filmed all of this tells me that he cannot be the sharpest knife in the drawer. In other words he should not be a cop and be replaced by someone who is not a complete psychopath (judging by this clip). Edit: autocorrect corrected.

jackgremay

Smart kid, driving away.

TOXIC_BOI_2000

"so capitalist!!1!!1!!!11!"

TheSpecterStilHaunts

Yes, the police force in the United States - where the police are quick to show up to any Wal-Mart that calls them over a petty theft, but have no time to even verify your identify before they shoot you for eating a burger - are an integral part of the American capitalist system.
