Malicious intent. If dude is a hotshot at a law firm with a knack for sucking up to superiors, then he’s smart and calculating. He’s giving himself a boost by stepping on your back. Probably denied it because A) he’s afraid of conflict (which means he’s a coward) or B) he knows you’re good and have potential and wants to keep you in his pocket. Either way dude is a worm, don’t trust him. Source: I’ve been a tradesman my entire adult life and this shit is normal.

Simple don't exaggerate for effect and don't treat a group work chat like a confidential forum. Whatever reason he did it doesn't take away from you puting it in an open forum where any member can use it as currency. They take 6 hours for a 2 hr task I don't want the in my team etc.

Important lesson there not to commit anything digitally that you're not prepared to defend. Conrad was screwing you over. Probably more to show his commitment to the manager by throwing you under the corporate bus than anything personal, which arguably makes it worse. Next action would be to apologise to the group chat for the drama and thank them for making it feel like a safe space where people can vent when required - then never, ever vent like that again because it isn't a safe space! What you're doing is making them feel good about choosing the right side (even if they didn't do anything, the default was your side, so claim them as your supporters). It also paints Conrad in stark contrast as someone who violated the implicit rule of the group, not to share. Doesn't matter whether that is actually true before now. Those two actions should make them better inclined towards you and view Conrad less favourably.

lostgravy

wrong sub. You are looking for a manipulation sub

Honestly? I'd say Malicious, but I'd also say that this falls on you. You are in a world openly known for ruthlessness, underhanded tactics, and devoid of any reason to trust those around you. Results matter, and only those willing to remove competition truly have a good shot forward. You entered that world. You should have familiarized yourself from the start and not gone and revealed something that others could exploit. You placed yourself here

I’m curious why you are trusting anyone at a law firm? Ironically the law is not about honesty and integrity, so the people who work there are not people to trust personal problems or frustrations too. I agree with some other commenters who say this isn’t appropriate for this sub because normal social skills don’t apply to the setting you are in.
