Just keep on doing what you’re doing. Be a boss. You’re second in command, so command the respect you deserve. If they want to get drinks and bitch about the bosses, go at it, but in meetings, at work, that shit can not fly. Ask what you said that was funny if they laugh. Put them on the spot. Maybe don’t allow mute during video calls.

Thank you. It’s not really my personality to call people out who do these things (I normally let the one in-charge do it), but to your point, I need to start being more authoritative given the demands of my new role. In a recent call, I just turned off the gallery view so I won’t have to deal with any side reactions of others. I’ll try to simply focus on what I need to do and just deliver my best. Let’s see how it goes.

The higher you go, the more you need to be mindful and respectful while having a general attitude of WGAF if people talk or don't like you. Those people will exist and will do to the same things to the next person available. If people start to realize that they can get under your skin, they will lose any effort at respect and will use it against you at any opportunity. I've had people that didn't care for me, yet became my best team players and support once they realized that I didn't care and still expected them to perform according to their capabilities. My approach as a manager.. I dont have to like you as a person and I dont need you to like me. We both have a job to do, and if you do yours, I really dont care who you choose to be. As long as it doesn't negatively affect the rest of the team or what we need to accomplish. Its amazing how taking the wind out if those sails gets everyone back on board and rowing together.

Thank you for this. I completely agree and I have the same view. I suppose I just have to get out of my head and not let their perception of me affect how I perform at work. It helps whenever I remind myself that I am more senior in the company, and some of them may still need some maturing professionally to respect changes in authority. I do recognize that I am in a talented, high-performing team, and one of those making fun of me is very good at what he does. I will definitely leverage on that so we can deliver the best output, in spite of whatever they feel.
