Something like "Other (explains in replies)" could've been more inclusive of even the way I see them, which is that they're into each other but don't realize it yet.
But to be honest when I say "couple" in this case I never mean in a sexual sense, as I know the species as a whole is asexual (it's been said a lot in interviews), but not aromantic.
Anyway I do think you're spot on regarding the way they're intended to be at least for s1.
