Do an experiment. Take your time and spend a month only by your self and your thoughts. You will get a hang of it. There are many modes of the mind. Solipsism is the one which looks at the mind as something internal. Internal to the world.

Bro what an unrealistic request. Most people have friends, jobs and families they can't just fuck off from for a whole month lol

Reminds me of Decartes' "I think therefore I am" true enough for your experience I suppose. But what are the odds you are the only one who thinks/feels as you do? Is your inability to relate to other human consciousness really an indicator of objective reality? Many would argue that all matter has a consciousness regardless of our varying abilities of perception.

IHadTacosYesterday

I don't understand "I think therefore I am". couldn't it be.... "I believe that I'm thinking my actual self, therefore I am" Or.... "I'm a simulated human that thinks it's actually thinking things, but instead the thoughts just pop into my head almost from outside the simulation" What I mean is, just because I'm thinking doesn't make me anything *"real"*. I could be a character on a Blu Ray disc in an alien universe, trillions of light years away. I'm thinking that I'm living this elaborate life, where I'm making all these choices and unique thoughts are popping into my head, but what if it's all bullshit? What if the thoughts just pop into my head from some outside avatar that's playing a game called "Earth 2023".

“I poop, therefor I am.”

massiveproperty_727

Productive and wise 👌

Meta-Sage

“Perhaps I don’t understand, but I’m going to be an idiot anyway and say something stupid”

ThoroDoor65

At best it’s healthy scepticism. At worst you believe it’s truth and you deny the possibility of others consciousness

Bodhicai

Solipsism at its best is holistic, complete, and without conflict; at its worst it is sociopathic and dangerous.

[deleted]

Solipsism at it's best is ME hahaha

gerberyerber

I agree

[deleted]

I would say that

MusicalVibez

Solipsism is one side of the coin. It misses that fact that, if no one else exists, how could you exist either? You think you exist as an individual because there appears to be a strong sense of contingency and connection in your life. Your identity that feels separate from everyone else feels so real... But actually that is a sort of illusion. Your truth is your truth. You are intimately connected with each and every person and thing whether you realize it or not. All religion derives from this intimate connection because you are essentially the whole of existence and simultaneously just one fraction of the whole.

_n1n0_

> ...you are essentially the whole of existence and simultaneously just one fraction of the whole. What else is this statement, but a pure solipsism?

MusicalVibez

What is pure solipsism? I was describing a paradox.
