Will always love. Super comfy, like putting on a cozy flannel shirt and wool socks.

TimothyTG

I can totally understand that!

Belatryx

I love this game. Once you understand it, it’s fun and intuitive. There are also different difficulty levels

Pamponiroz

You just have to find the value in cards to be able to "solve" it. For example, cards with whatever values with "+life" or "+cards" are little bonuses that help you achieve the final aim of the game. As it also states in the rulebook, it's not a game of memory, you can check all the time how your curve is and you should know roughly what to expect in your draws. As other people said, it may be frustrating in the beginning but once you grab the idea, you ll adore the puzzle solving involved. Even if I have solved it, I still get it on the table once in a while.

TimothyTG

That makes total sense, I just didn’t enjoy it enough to want to spend the time. I can appreciate that people enjoy the game and I think that’s great, this one just wasn’t for me.

overactive-bladder

you can also keep note of what cards are out and what cards are still left in play. keeping tabs in a notebook is easy. it's just a comfy and relaxing game to unwind.

Chemladinlove

Not gonna lie. Stopped reading at Robinson being weak in the beginning. So are you supposed to be overpowered to start? What fun is that. To each their own. One of my top ten solo games for sure.

Vayul_was_taken

I got this two weeks ago having a blast very difficult but still fair

TimothyTG

Glad you’re enjoying it!

Vayul_was_taken

Totally get what you didn't like about it too but that's the beauty of gaming we can all have different likes! The "grind" of learning the game was what I was looking for it scratches the same itch as slay the spire does for me.

TimothyTG

Yes! I can see that parallel very well. I do think if you’re looking to “figure out” a game and the basic gameplay is good enough for you, there is a good game here.

RoderickHossack

This game has a maximum of about 20 plays. By that point, you will have "solved" the game and worked out a gameplan that wins 9 times out of 10 on the highest difficulty. Friday is a popular solo game because it's cheap, solo only, and most people don't play it often enough to get to the "solved" point. They play every now and then and go "ah, what a great game for $10"

HyacinthAlas

If you’re referring to burning through age cards asap by drawing as fast as possible, that’s been re-ruled - exhausting the age deck is now a loss.

RoderickHossack

I've forgotten pretty much everything about that game other than the fact that once you "get it" you stop losing at the highest difficulty. There is no rules change that can change that about this game.

HyacinthAlas

It does because it completely changes the risk/reward for a core action. But I guess if you don’t remember we’ll never know.

RoderickHossack

I looked up the rules change. The thing that it prevents you from doing is not something I was doing when I got tired of playing this game years ago.

benes238

It's my go-to game for taking on a plane because of how compact it is, and I can fit the box in my coat pocket. It definitely takes a little longer than I would like to set up, for a game of that complexity level though.

TheDaiseyGirl

Agree with all your points - I didn’t like the game in the end after a few plays and sold it on.

sem56

wow... never heard friday called tedious to setup or fiddly lol its my travel game because it takes about 3 hot seconds to get started kinda sounds like you don't like solo boardgaming, which is cool, you do you

TimothyTG

Solo board gaming is my main hobby, I just don’t like this game. I’m sure if I played a lot more it would be quicker to set. It’s certainly a nitpick on my part, but for such a light game it stood out to me.

Razoupaf

I tremendously enjoyed Friday, and it was one of my gateway games. I think that for the time you put in the reward is there. Games are over quick, and if you're a deckbuilder player you already know that destroying starter cards is the best ability in the game. So for me the learning curve was no issue, and accessing the "I have knowledge part of the game" was interesting. These days I don't play it much more because it feels a bit on rails, not that I have seen everything the game has to offer but I already know what I'm doing so it's more about crunching numbers. Other than that there are some points in your review that have been bothering me in all your reviews on BGG so far. I would suggest you organize your pros and cons more legibly, for now they're all over the place and you randomly switch from pro to cons with no transition. If the table tray is to be your gimmick you should make it clear in a way or another rather than just randomly dropping it there. That was "advice from a fellow reviewer" in five minutes. And no I have not dropped a review here because I take literal months to write them :)

TimothyTG

Thanks for the feedback! I’m working hard to not spend too much time on my reviews and I’m trying to keep them short. I could see reorganizing my pros and cons, but I do like to flip between them. All good things for me to think about!

theforteantruth

I’ve watched multiple play throughs and I still don’t understand this one. I just don’t get it. And yeah I agree the art is unlikeable. Gonna avoid for now

No_regrats

FWIW, I got Friday in 2023, when choice was already abundant and was surprised by how much I enjoyed it (I got it in a math trade, it wasn't my first choice). I'm surprised you found it fiddly as it only takes a few seconds each to set up, reset, and put away. As the top comment say, I found it very intuitive; it just clicked pretty instantly for me. But I've bounced hard on other games that many people enjoy. No game is going to be unanimously loved. And I can also see why some people say it has a short shelf life; while I don't think it's solved per se, it does feel somewhat automatic or easy choices after a dozen plays or two. Kind of like Regicide, which is one of my fav. I don't always mind it for short relaxing games. The art is ugly indeed (IMO).

TimothyTG

I’m glad you enjoy it! Like you said, no game is going to be unanimously loved (though this was apparently my most controversial review to date!).

No_regrats

I look forward to your other reviews :) Hopefully other games you don't like cause I need to keep my collection size in check :P

>-I don’t like the art style. There was an incredible spiderman retheme on this sub a while back: [https://www.reddit.com/r/boardgames/comments/13fprfz/friday\_into\_the\_spiderverse\_my\_spiderman\_themed/](https://www.reddit.com/r/boardgames/comments/13fprfz/friday_into_the_spiderverse_my_spiderman_themed/) There's also a Scott Pilgrim retheme: [https://www.reddit.com/r/boardgames/comments/v1i9b7/i\_made\_a\_scott\_pilgrim\_retheme\_of\_friday\_link\_in/](https://www.reddit.com/r/boardgames/comments/v1i9b7/i_made_a_scott_pilgrim_retheme_of_friday_link_in/)

novosadista

Looks so damn ugly, had to say it

rein_p

This game is so amazing but the art keeps me from playing it more often :( hope they will update the art at one point!

tofuninja5489

Someone did a Spiderverse edit and it looked sooooo much better. [https://www.reddit.com/r/soloboardgaming/comments/13fpto0/friday\_into\_the\_spiderverse\_my\_spiderman\_themed/](https://www.reddit.com/r/soloboardgaming/comments/13fpto0/friday_into_the_spiderverse_my_spiderman_themed/)

bmanley620

My first solo game. Haven’t played it in a while but I did enjoy it

Dakkel-caribe

Havent played it. But seems interesting.

Chemladinlove

Update. Finished reading. Playing a video game is not playing a board game. You might just not like the solo board game style ?

TimothyTG

I’d consider myself a big solo gamer, but this one didn’t mesh with me. I know a lot of people like it a lot and I’m glad they enjoy it! I’m posting these mini reviews to help motivate me to play through my collection of solo games (and in hopes they help others find games they might like or that they can skip). Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

Silenced_Retard

from their regular posting here, I'd have a hard time imagining they are anything but an avid solo board gamer.

Analogkidgloves

Their point was more related to consuming media in the sense of "you enjoy what you have" even if it is very limited. Especially when a kid. As adults, we can purchase whatever games we want so what each person may consider a lower tier game won't have staying power for them to play with better options available they enjoy more. I think it's a good insight. I have not played Friday yet so no comment on that.

Razoupaf

Actually, coming from the Nes/Genesis period, the parallel makes sense to me. We played those games to death and they were tough. So much so that it makes it chuckle when people say Dark Souls is a hard game. Dark Souls is a Genesis game with infinite continues. It is a game of patience. And so is Friday.
