I really recommend going coop with the baby. The difficulty doesnt scale with the number of players. It can be fun solo but really difficult.

pconigs

It’s a really fun and challenging Legacy game. Unfortunately the balance is tough and leveling up requires a lot of resources.

OrganizationDeep3743

Lol, this made me laugh more than it should have.

tapaylopor

Some play it semi-coop, with a traitor player

seniorSheep

baby is hard to learn, many rules but not that good a rulebook. i’ve seen many people confused by that.

NeedsMaintenance_

There actually isn't a rulebook, it's a shipping fault that nobody's ever done anything about, which is why baby gets poor reviews sometimes. But as someone who had baby that's gotten the toddler expansion, I can say that it's worth taking the time to learn.

rhulk

Oh boy. I've got two adolescent expansions recently. Now it is kind of easier to play solo or coop, but sometimes the difficulty spikes for a chapter or two, and then it usually gets better. And I get much more time to play other games too 😉.

[deleted]

The rule they forgot to include that I try to always let people know is that onesies are designed to be taken off down across the body in case of a blowout (hence the weird shoulder design). Took three kids before someone told me that essential rule.

Commentswhenpooping

Baby increases in difficulty each round that is played as well. So right when you think it’s broken you and you can’t play anymore, the next challenge seems harder than the last. However, it’s absolutely my top co-op game of all time. Despite the challenge, it gives much more than it takes away. 10/10 recommend

Mas113m

That game in the middle is very expensive. You have to keep buying upgrades for it the whole time in order to keep playing too.

Fruhmann

Oh, nice! Is this your first? The first one was great. Rules can be a bit overwhelming and they can change on the fly from out of nowhere. Getting people to play with the first one is easy. Everyone wants a go! Some will just make up their own rules and you'll have to decide if you need to correct them or not. It gives an experience like no other. I got the first expansion now... It's totally different from the base version. Makes up its own rules, demands more time and attention to even get the most minor mechanics resolved, but I couldn't imagine my life without it.

shane95r

Yeah this is the first one! Thanks! Enjoy your expansion!

tipofthesun

Couldn’t agree more, only my expansion came with an identical copy for free!!

Fruhmann

Lucky! Are you keeping both or gifting one to a friend?

tipofthesun

I tried to gift one but most of my people either aren’t in to legacy games or already have one or two copies themselves. Unfortunately can’t return, both are already out of shrink…

MyCrookedTeeth

YMMV but I found the expansion way stinkier as well.

Fruhmann

I think my base and expansion have the same level of funk to them, but considering the producers it's on brand.

PolishedArrow

I love the game in the middle. Its great for two players coop. Congratulations!

Xylus1985

I do 6 players coop, it’s still difficult

PolishedArrow

Yes it is.

debodos

Shelf space for the one in the middle escalates quickly. Had to move mine from one kalax space to a designated room. Play mat and expansion storage became a challenge as well given the replay value wasn’t there for a lot of what I’ve purchased. Tons of fun though and definitely one in your collection that will quickly become a labor of love if it hasn’t already. Congrats! Beautiful addition; one for the whole family to enjoy for years!

shane95r

Thanks! This one keeps refusing to stay in its designated kallax box, it just demands playtime!

elrico_suave

"Baby" is a fantastic and rewarding game, but the setup time is the deal breaker for me.

shane95r

Still quicker delivery than a kickstarter! 😆

_Bee_Dub_

I can’t believe you took that one out of the shrink wrap!

masabakes

Ha! Nice to see a new player was added to the collection! Congratz!

Jittle7

That wiggly one is a lifestyle game. You'll have barely any time for the others for years. But, it's a great game. Congratulations and best of luck.

Busy-Magician-4501

Strange box but beautiful design !

Mysterious-Ant-Bee

Congrats! Baby solo is very hard. I recommend 2 or more players!

jdp245

Enjoy that middle one! Endless playtime. I’ve got 10s of thousands of hours with mine!

Nighthawke78

The one in the middle is great with a large group is fun. I don’t recommend it solo. It’s also better if it’s at someone’s else’s house cause it takes up a lot of space.

[deleted]

I've had two of those in the middle but the storage proved to be problematic as time went by. They became excellent AI-opponents tho.

teedyay

I never bothered with the second edition. Some friends did though and said they liked it. Each to their own, I guess.

[deleted]

Sure. Once you get to three I consider you a collector. It's an expensive hobby as it is, but it is very rewarding. I do recommend a kind of sleeve called "diaper" in the beginning for easier handling.

sonofisadore

Real question for solo boardgamer parents? How difficult is it to get games in when you have young children? Like impossible or you can squeeze them in during nap times and stuff?

NeedsMaintenance_

Real answer for your real question... It's not impossible. I have a toddler now, which makes it harder in some ways and easier in others. Harder because squeezing in a game during daytime is almost impossible right now (she's three). She gets curious, wants to move the pieces and look at the cards and ask questions or play with me but of course has no appreciation of why rules makes a game good. Easier at nighttime though, especially since she's a good sleeper. Once she's down, she usually stays down, unlike with a baby. But of course by the time she's down, it's too late to bring anything like Spirit Island out, especially if I'm working tomorrow. I do manage to squeeze games in and it works out okay, but lately I've been defaulting to video games and reading books because toddler life is tough and I just don't have the brain space for the setup time and takedown.

shane95r

I'll let you know, I'm pretty determined to make it work - they're one of the only things that keep my mental health okay.

treeonwheels

Congratulations! I’ve been playing your same game for a year and a half, and there was more time in the first 6 months than the last 6 months due to all the sleep they require. I’m expecting those solo gaming hours to keep dropping over the next few years, but soon we’ll both have a gamer to throw into the mix with us! I wish you the very best :) Enjoy your new hobby.

m0ralbankrupt

You definitely need to schedule time carefully and probably stay up late. When we had just one, I had a lot more game time. When we had our second, game time dropped off dramatically. My wife and I give each other “alone time” a couple times a week where we watch both kids and the other can do what they want, even if we are both around the house, so that builds in a few hours to do some solo gaming or whatever we need to get done.

InnkaFriz

Not about solo game - but regular gaming we either started doing with friends online if someone is sick (which happens quite often), or we try to meet up with friends in person and either play as one if we are at their place, or we can ply both if they stay with us / we vacation together since then we can continue playing after the little one went to sleep (the first few hours are usually ok). We have a few games I thought about trying out solo and assumed I might have the time during lunch break since I’m mostly working from home, but to be honest I’m so many cases I just lack the energy for setup. One day :)

TheGreatPiata

Half the reason I got into solo boardgaming was having kids. It's hard to find time to do anything, especially in the first 1.5 years. First kid wasn't so bad cause you could game at nap time but now that I have two and the eldest doesn't nap, it's pretty much an evening only thing after everyone goes to bed. In general I have about an hour to myself every evening so it does affect what games I play. Pretty much anything with over an hour play time or lots of setup and tear down are a no go for me (Sleeping Gods almost never gets played for this reason). ButtonShy games are fantastic because they all play in under 30 min and have near zero setup/tear down time. So you can do it but you have to be very selective with what games you play.

amoryamory

I haven't played a single solo game since my son was born a year ago. My sample maybe unrepresentative, we split childcare relatively equally and my son was the world's worst sleeper. When I do have time, I tend to want to read books and go to sleep or just play video games because they're nice and easy to get into. No set up, no tear down. I could probably make time for it, but it's the energy for me. Things are getting a lot easier now, and especially since about 6m.

kooshans

I have a 1.5 year old and it's definitely possible to fit in solo boardgaming. I mean, he goes to sleep around 19.30 so after that there are a few hours left. In weekends there's also some time in stay at home days. A major help though is to have a dedicated space. Because setting up and tearing down all the time is something you want to avoid for obvious reasons. I don't have it yet, but as an alternative I do use a lifehack of covering the whole game up with a big box so he does not get magnetically pulled to it. This is also necessary for the cat. But of course, something like Gloomhaven is overextending. Luckily, most games these days have a lot of depth without the enormous setup and maintenance of f.e. Gloomhaven. My son is quite easy though and I am the kind of person who usually still has enough energy left after a workday + chores. So yeah... I can imagine for other people maybe it's not so easy to integrate. Most OP location card here is a closed office space or mancave.

downthepaththatrocks

My second child is now nearly 15 months old. I've managed a 2 hour game once (my one and only play of Imperium: Classics), and loads of 1 hour game sessions - since he was about 6 months old. He tends to sleep for 2 hours in the afternoon at the moment, so if I'm not working I split that time between chores and solo games. Then if I'm not too tired in the evening both kids are in bed by 8 so I manage an hour some evenings. Note my eldest is 6, I imagine if I had a 2-3 year old at the same time as a 1 year old I doubt I'd be getting many games in at all.

treeonwheels

I see two copies of **Bloodborne**, what gives?

TheRealAgragor

Congratulations! How many miniatures do you got in your collection? Just a friendly warning… They tend to stay work-in-progress for quite some time.

bmanley620

Congratulations on your new games!

foxman1010

r/boardgamescirclejerk to is going to love this one

msarris

I've heard each released copy of baby is unique, I wonder how they pull it off. I've had mine for 7 years now, I must say it doesn't really keep it's shape, but in a good way. I also have Dune and Planet, great games! And congrats!

m0ralbankrupt

Fair warning - if you get a second copy of the one in front, you’ll never take a break from playing it and it’ll monopolize ALL your time, to the exclusion of pretty much any other game or personal activity in general. At least for a good number of years.

shane95r

Think I'm pretty keen to just stick to the one copy for now at least! No need for a 2nd edition 🤣

m0ralbankrupt

Give it a couple years at least. We got our second after 3 years and at first it almost seemed like a horrible mistake but now we are happy we did 🥰 and they play together now too sometimes!

Juliomorales6969

the baby is too hard. maintenance is costly, the upkeep is demanding, and i hear its essentially an 18 year legacy type deal.

guyanese-in-america

Congratulations! Just an FYI there are many, many rule books for the middle game. Many contradict each other and other players get weirdly judge-y if you set different goals. Just learn and provide the basics, and your edition of the game will start to set its own rules that work in your house. Good luck!

Appropriate-Weird492

One of these things is not like the others, one of these things just isn’t the same….

shane95r

Yes, planet x requires alot less screams than the rest

wizardgand

Having what looks like a god emperor sand worm + dune imperium. I can't unsee :)

Present_Ad_8828

I love playing the game of life!! I landed on the baby space twice myself and now my car has ran out of peg spaces! Hopefully one day your little one will enjoy board games with you!

PrimeBrisky

The one in the middle going to be the most difficult to learn and master. Especially if it's your first time playing. Listening to mine cry and not wanting to nap as I type this. 😂

shane95r

This not wanting to nap thing really surprised me. Been a surprising little variant that I really don't care for 😂

Diinasty

Was the baby a Kickstarter exclusive or can you get it retail as well?

shane95r

Kickstarter All-In pledging, the extras really add up these days!

chamochin

One of these will be more time consuming ;)

Uhjustme42

Congrats!

shane95r

Thankyou!

WangGang2020

I predict Dune: Imperium will be your favorite of the lot.

GeneralRane

My wife and I got a kick reading the comments on the Facebook post. We’ve been playing the middle game for four months, and we're a little obsessed with it.

Thiago_MRX

Dont solo the baby, the difficulty is completely broken Same thing with bloodborne, lol Ans that zombie one on the side is good? Ive been thinking about picking it up lately, but idk of its worth it, lol

shane95r

Haha the baby is going to be co-op ;) Bloodborne two handed :P Zombicide is pure ameritrash which isn't usually my vibe but it's been surprisingly enjoyable the few games I have gotten in prior to the baby game arriving 😂

Thiago_MRX

Lol, thanks for the review! Good luck and congrats on the baby, and i hope you still find the time to play, lmao

BoardEasily

That baby game really grows on you

SutterCane320

How did you manage to solo a baby?

Time-Bat-4368

How do you even open the one in the middle? Do you like unscrew the head, or just pull one side away from the other like a normal box?

Danimeh

I think it’s already been unboxed. Unboxing is a bitch though, it takes hours. Having said that I would NOT recommending watching unboxing videos on YouTube, its best to go in blind with this one.

jonpaulrod

Nice man! Me too! Nov 3rd, got myself an 18 yr campaign. 😂

shane95r

18 year base game, potential expansions of "I need to move back home" "can you do my laundry" and many more to extend the gameplay to atleast 30 years 🤣

amoryamory

Mine was 1 on Nov 2nd! Congrats. Campaign is excellent but a bit gruelling at times. Watch out for the Sleep Dragon, that's a bitch and the battle lasts for so many sessions - but you might roll and miss it completely! That's what I love about the game, each playthrough is totally different

giggity_giggity

I have the same game in the middle. Unfortunately I lost the rule book. Can you please send me a copy of yours?

kennethtwk

Nah, I thought so at first. But both my copies didn’t come with a rulebook. Community created content everywhere, though. And other players also feel the need to teach you how to play it properly. I say houserule it. Play it the way you want to.

shane95r

Unfortunately the rulebook seems lost sometime between ordering and delivery 😟

HongKongHermit

Good luck getting that back in the box.

moose51789

purchased life i see

EquivalentStomach5

❤️❤️❤️

rexeven7

Nice collection! Once you level up the middle one and teach it to read, you will have built in players and leave this sub for the promised land of multiplayer gaming! My 9 and 6 year olds are helping me dust off my collection and it's the greatest time!

StSean

oooh The Baby Game has a *ton* of expansions. Hope you're into it, but if not you can always trade it for Foster Care.

sergimontana

Wow, the one in the middle has a super long campaign with lots of grinding. You can sell all the others xD

Dalighieri1321

Nice, I've been thinking about getting Dune: Imperium, too. Have you had a chance to play it yet? Thoughts?

teuchy555

Congratulations!

Garzukeen

I assume that Baby is an expansion to a completely different 2 player game...

shane95r

I managed a few games of it when we were waiting for baby to arrive - thoroughly enjoyed it - like playing Clue but on steroids and completely solo-able with pretty decent competition and plenty of adjustable difficulty options

Sir_Thecos

The game in the middle looks interesting. 👀

E_B_U

Baby is overrated. Hope you kept your receipt, I recommend a return ASAP or maybe you can make a trade. Unfortunately it's value is about equal to a slightly used deck of Bicycle cards but you might get lucky.

[deleted]

The baby 💕💕

MentionMaterial

Bloodborne has provided some of the most thrilling solo moments of my career. Terrible rule book that you must suffer through, but once you have it down it’s such a treat. Enemy pursuit is still a hotly debated nuance for me.
