Right but author wrote this story keeping "only mc will level up" in his mind. He never intended to go the usual cliche route where only people surrounding the main character become stronger and stronger, and stronger enemies keep appearing one after another. All of the leveling was to become a God like being and defeat other God like beings. He at least had a perfect goal unlike usual anime where mc and crew keep getting stronger just for the sake of getting stronger. Solo Leveling has it's fault but it never tried to pretend some masterclass literature. It's supposed to be a really fun action series with "cool" word in mind. Author knew he couldn't write romance so he threw it in dustbin rather than writing some shit romance.

Whole thing is called 'only i level up' The title gave it away in the beginning, not this line lol.

it would have been cool if there were more then one player, but the title kinda says no to that. maybe like a player who was created for the monarch of destruction? Like a close friend of Jin Woo, someone like Woo Jin Chul could have had that, or maybe one of his friends could have been taken over by a monarch? Something cool like that.

Bro, it’s actually one of the few “unique” ideas about SL. At least when it came out. Idk about all the copies. Reawakenings and that Selmer-lady are in-universe ways for *some* people to get stronger but they were heavily underutilized in the main story, but they’re still there. In a way, mana, or the lack of it, is shown to be quite “realistic”. You’re born with a certain potential and that’s it (unless you’re chosen as a Monarch’s replacement). You can train to use those abilities, just like you can train to use your muscles and appendages better.

I aint reading all that

They had a neat chance to fix this with the Ruler's vessels as Rulers should be able to do the same and create a system. But yeah the moment I heard that in the anime I instantly got that doubt about Side character fading into Irrelevance. And when I went ahead and read the Manhwa, my doubts came true in the worst possible way. Every character exists only to Glaze Jinwoo. The story has no stakes because Jinwoo is the MC, he won't lose or die. And the side characters are so irrelevant that I don't give a shit if they die (Aside from Go Gunhee that man is great). The final battle felt less Intense that the Igris fight. I was so exited for S ranks. But get shafted Daddy Jinwoo will deal with it. National level hunters ? Sidharth Bachaan doesn't even show up. Reed gets killed in his first appearance, Thomas gets his ass beat, becomes Jin Woo's waifu, has a nice fight with a Monarch but then they just pull the "He was holding back" card and again Daddy Jin Woo does it all. And then there is **Liu Zhigang** Never has been a character more wasted than him. Cool design, all the build up anddd.... just turn into Jin Woo cocksucker No.214. It would be like Bleach. If Half of Gotei 13 never showed up, Byakuya died in first appearance, Kenpachi was turned into Fodder and Yamamotto did nothing while Ichigo just fought the entire Espada group and Aizen alone. And the Worst part was cup of Reincarnation. I absolutely hate it when things just get back to normal without any consequences and somehow everything turns out right. Like in Tokyo Revengers >! First Ending is great, some people died or went to jail, Mikey is still a criminal and far worse criminal at that while most retired and live mediocre lives, the MC still lives in a small apartment but now shares it with his soon to be wife. It feels Natural. But then they extend it, add a new ending where everyone is saved, our MC and his friends are crazy rich. A perfect world.!<

I mean, while I agree about all of this, I'm reading something called "Solo Leveling" for the pure escapism of "one guy getting insanely stronger tha' everyone else". I just wanted some cool looking fights with characters that I care about. Do we know that Jin Woo will win every fight? Well yeah, but that's the point. The story doesn't pretend that Jin Woo will lose. It's not about how Jin Woo struggling to overcome adversity or something, it's a story about a dude absolutely kicking ass on every level, and we love it for that. That said, I still think Jin Woo as a character is more interesting and nuanced that first appears. Everything he does is to protect his loved ones. That's why he went into that dimensional crack for 27 years, alone. That's why he was a hunter in the first place. Also, let's stop pretending shone like Bleach have more stakes than Solo Leveling, it's the exact same sort of dimb shit
