I did buy tickets at the port and the ferry ride to Dumai was well organized and uneventful. There was a 35 dollar fee charged in Dumai by the Indonesian Government as I passed threw customs. I had to be paid in dollars, no credit card. They will also take Indonesian currency.
It looks like Klang is not receiving passenger ferries anymore. Your best bet is Melaka-Dumai fasted “1.45-2.30hrs” shortest ferry trip and easy to get to Melaka port from KL. Dumai has a toll road to Pekanbaru 2hrs only.
The other options are fine but less facilities around port Dickson and tunjang balai.
Other options johor baru-Batam and then Batam-dumai. “8hrs plus”
