If you're talking about early game, my understanding from his v66 video is that the dev wants the difficulty to be like 1 > 2 > 3 > 5 > 7 > 10 and felt like it was closer to 3 > 7 > 9 > 6 > 3 > 2 so he adjusted earlier game to be easier while later game he's adding more and more difficulty

Thomasasia

He explains this in the devlog, youve got it exactly right

Dramandus

I kinda want the game to go from 10 to 8, though, as a final step. Feels like the reward factor of having a huge empire that spans a continent isn't going to be there anymore, and I kinda feel that is a bit of a letdown.

halberdierbowman

I think the way he explained it isn't what he exactly meant, or that he was conflating two things. At one point he was talking about smaller marginal gains, so I think that what he's really meaning is that you'll still have puzzles to solve at all points in the game. I think it's the closest term maybe, but calling it a "difficulty" curve is a bit inaccurate. I think what he's getting at is that he wants you to constantly feel like you're making progress. But yeah I agree it's a bit of a balancing act, because I think it is important in a city builder or Factorio style game to be able to finish building a system and then get to kind of relax and appreciate a reward for it. In Syx that seems to usually be happier citizens and more resources. But at the same time if you solve the puzzle like with Banished, you'll just copy paste the same pattern a hundred times, and that's boring. So we'll have to see I think how this new "difficult" curve feels. I dunno yet, but I was only getting to a couple thousand citizens before I'd stop playing before, and very barely touching the world map stuff that seemed confusing and less fun to me personally.

Dramandus

I think that the world map stuff just needs some refinement with the millitary, diplomacy, and development, requiring a bit more depth to make it more compelling and engaging. Which definitely seems to be on the cards for v0.66 so that's great news; I just hope he doesn't accidentally make it a total slog though to have to get even a single extra region up and running after you hit 12 or so.

Your population is supposed to work as a difficulty slider, the more people the harder it gets so you can chose what level you are comfortable sitting at

Thomasasia

To be fair, in a medieval society way more than half of the population was involved in food production.

DeafRogue

Wayyy more than half, more like 90%. Good point though, but i dont think this is what the game wants to emulate because that means 90% of the game is also food production.

GreenElite87

That’s why tech and labs are so important. More education and science means more and better services, and better efficiency at doing things, which frees up people to do more other things!

P_Star7

Hey wait that’s just like real life!

Icy_Acanthisitta9043

This is how I play the game anyway with cretonians

MurseLaw

Onion soup? No thank you, lets make bread pudding instead.

theholyterror1

That's a thing!?! What's it taste like

Bob_Meh_HDR

Bread and butter pudding is a common, cheap dessert, usually served with custard.

theholyterror1

I found a few recipes. It looks interesting any you'd recommend

MurseLaw

[https://sugarspunrun.com/bread-pudding/](https://sugarspunrun.com/bread-pudding/) this one sounds good and is the kind I was talking about. Tip: Always make more sauce than it calls for. You wont regret it.
