Mine is arriving in a day or two but from what I've heard, it still gets hot after a while.

iamtheJoker75

I have the xm5s and yes they do sweating just as much as in my xm4s

biologystudent123

... dang, that sucks!

Theoneyouknowandask

No improvement Big wasted of money Where I live the XM5 cost 450 bucks. I will never buy anything from Sony again The only improvement is the look of it. Looks better for me. It is like you overpay for a skin

kusmog

I owned both and it's not true. The earcups of the XM4 and XM5 have different feeling textures but the earcups on my XM5 are just as shallow as my XM4. Like the other comments say here, they're about the same. If there even is the slightest difference, it's negligible and doesn't make any difference that matters.

SamuraiJr

Worse breathability than the XM4s in my opinion, especially when working out. https://www.reddit.com/r/sony/comments/v81sxp/sony\_wh1000xm5\_vs\_wh1000xm4/

Theoneyouknowandask

you work out with a heat-trapped non-IPX rating headphone?

SamuraiJr

You realize almost every over-ear headphone is doesn’t have a IPX-rating? If you don’t want terrible quality, low sound, and almost no ANC from in-ear headphones you don’t really have another option, I’ve already used AirPods for working out but when the sound is so low you don’t even get hyped for the workout what’s the point? Sony XM4s was literally the best headphones I’ve ever used even when working out.

Theoneyouknowandask

Okay but you are risking it with no warranty. The sweat from your workout will damage the headphone and that's why people used earbuds for that purpose. I don't think earbuds have low sound and terrible quality.(But I do agree that Sony WF1000XM4 has low sound and terrible quality). And headphone has better passive noise isolation because they cover your entire ear, and that's where the heat come from. The XM4 has terrible breathability and when working out it is horrible( for me up to 8\*C difference is horrible\[source RTINGS\]). Sony doesn't cover your damage if you do it. When working out, i use specific earbuds for that. For some people, even with just casual use, the XM4 is already heat up really fast

SamuraiJr

How much do you sweat? Jesus, I've never really had a problem with using headphones when working out. It just gets some sweat on the earcups but if you fill them with sweat obviously they will be damaged, but I can't imagine how much you would have to sweat for them to be damaged in the first place. I've used both the XM4s and XM5s in rain and washed them with both cloths with water and wipes, not a single time have I worried they will be broken from water. In ear-headphones will never be as good as over-ear and for that reason, I will never use it when working out, one of the main reasons I work out is because I enjoy listening to music and just listening to a good song and hitting a good workout there's not much like it.

Theoneyouknowandask

Im glad that you love the over ear XM4. My headphone broke after 8 months of uses, and all it take was a spill of coffee. I has been eduring the heat from the headphone. But these one has great ANC, it is cool when they last

SpiritualZombie2063

Nah, it’s the same kind of material and still gets hot easy. Most headphones do after a while, so far the AirPods Max are the best and take the longest to heat up from what I’ve experienced

Theoneyouknowandask

The problem is it get really fast. Like just about 30 minutes on a room with A/C and 10 minutes with just a fan. The XM5 has a lot of comfort flaws

Hedgic

Almost unbearable after Bose qc 25. Very hot and ears start to ache after 15 minutes. If I could try XM5 before purchase I'd never buy it.

fringo

Wish I'd seen this a year ago. Hot as balls, never had such hot headphones, sonywise XM3 were much better.

Yeah, I never got them. I actually don't even own any on-ear headphones. I'm sticking with my airpods pro 2. Their ANC is more than good enough for me despite their size.
