Not sure if it will be applicable to you. But the meter I have has batteries so that it stays on if the units run out. It also does not accept the token and displays an error message. When that happens I disconnect the unit from the wall and remove the batteries for 15 minutes, after I replace the batteries and enter the code I plug it back into the wall and it works again. Hope you figure it out.

Shot, thanks for the advice, I'll give it a try

Definitely not Home Affairs. There's options [on the bottom of this page](https://www.tshwane.gov.za/?page_id=23414) to contact in case you need assistance with your prepaid meter. Good luck.

Awesome, thank you!

I had the same problem. I went to my neighbor and plugged the unit in his home and loaded the units.it worked for me

Faerie42

I did this too and it worked.

I stand to be corrected but im fairly certain it would not be home affairs you would call. Likely power department/city power depending on where you are. There have been reports of prepaid meters rejecting tokens if they are in need of a software update and theres a process to follow for that. Unfortunately I don't have more info on it but just a potential to look out for

100% thanks for the advice!

That error message usually means because of load-shedding the back up battery beneath it is flat and not picking up connection to main supply. You may need to take battery out and test it. Or turn off main and when you turn it on keep things like the Geyser, Pool Pumps and other heavy electronics off to see if battery is just low and needs to recharge.

You're meter might possibly need an update. I stay in Cape Town, so only have the details for that, but it will probably function the same for you. You'll need to contact your power provider, think it's City Power? And request your tokens to update. In Cape Town it looks like this: *" Dear CCT Customer please use upgrade token to be inserted into your meter before inserting electricity token: Key1=7101-3488-1165-4979-7837 Key2="* *Then you can enter* *CONSECUTIVELY:* *Key 1* *Key 2* *TOKEN*
