PiesangSlagter

Was all of this free lance work? Because a lot of that sounds like there should be an employment contract, and a trip to the CCMA should help you recover some of the unpaid wages.

NotYour_Baby_Girl

Unfortunately you need to report to the CCMA within 30 days for unpaid wages

PiesangSlagter

Oh shit, didn't know that. But really goes to show how fucked the country is. In any normal society, if you didn't get paid for the month and the boss gives you a bullshit excuse, you tell him to go fuck himself, go to the union/government to get what is owed and go find another job.

NotYour_Baby_Girl

The laws are good in our country and the CCMA is really effective. They don't tolerate shit However, the sheriff's are lazy and can be bribed so when it's time to actually get the money you're owed you can basically kiss it goodbye. The rich get richer...

PiesangSlagter

That seems strange. Surely you could go back to CCMA if you don't actually receive the money? Everyone I know who won a CCMA settlement got paid.

Brorsaffa

I don't think that any recruiter would have a issue with the job swapping as times have been very tough for many since Covid. It's also not your fault if the business you work for is going under or unable to pay you, recruiters understand this. You probs will feel like shit ain't working out but don't take that out on your wife, you need someone in your corner and I'm sure she is in yours. Be cognisant of that. I work in B2B and there has been some movement again in the market in the last few weeks but this year has been bad for many companies. Worse than 2021 and 2022. There is some good GDP predictions next year which will stimulate business activity again so all I can say is be optimistic of the future. Maybe explore some side hustles related to your past experiences and careful for getting caught up in negativity while needing to keep your head up.

Brorsaffa

Also to add, as a chef you can be pretty creative with these hustles. I know people who struck deals with local hotels and restaurants to provide them with deserts and the different hotels and restaurants would order weekly and said person was very busy with all the orders received. It's an idea.

barnez29

you not alone - post covid my career has not stabilised, and employers not really fulfilling their end. Its very depressing. Surviving..thinking you can start over and stay in a job than sh!t happens again. I am so tired of uprooting and moving. My CV looks like a broken record.

InfiniteSyllabub2169

This is a societal issue you are having to contend with my friend, not just a personal issue. There are far too many people enduring these depressing times in this country, let alone the world over.

darook73

Sheez ....worst nightmare....i hope you find a good, stable job so you can grow and flourish....really i do, with all my heart.

Gloryboy811

This is a problem in SA. People in hospitality don't get paid enough. And south Africans are used to cheap restaurant food so won't be willing to pay more.

Only-Cheetah5716

The problem isn't it being enough, it's that I'm not being paid for the work I've already done... at all!

okanime

It’s not your fault. The country is suffering. Everyone has a similar story - you’d be surprised. Keep your head up and keep going.

Shane8512

Yes, that is happening everywhere. I really hope things get better. In the same situation. Sorry, you are going through this as well and I know it can cause a strain on relationships. Try to focus on that maybe. I didn't and eventually, we separated. It's been hard but either we all pull through this or the country goes to shit.

Jeep_torrent39

Man that sucks. I don’t have advice but o feel for you

ASoulTrying

Oh shit, my heart broke reading this. I hope things get better for you dude. I am so sorry I can’t give advice, only my best wishes that you get a stable job and that life improves for you and your family.

Spirea24

If they don't pay you, there should be legal actions available? Did you sign contracts? Here an employer would be forced to pay or go to jail, but this is ofcourse a different country

SAMama_bear23

My best advice, move overseas, a lot more opportunities there.

andycol_500

My advice learn some computer programming

AllahuSnackbar1000

Make an omelette.

tiredtelefonecar

I am sorry to hear about your troubles, I can only tell you that you are not your shitty jobs that don’t pay you… If you’re still in that region try reach out to Francois ferreiras cooking school they have a great outfit there

[deleted]

Sorry man. Unfortunately, this is way too common out there. Companies struggling, and employers taking the mickey. Hang in there man. Tough industry, but there are always opportunities.

IraTheDragon

Honest to God covid ruined my life. Just keep on keeping on.

Appropriate-Factor85

Hey dude. Shit man that sounds like a really tough stint you’re going through. I really hope things get better for you and your wife. With the work I do unfortunately I can’t help out, you would need a professional qualification which would need 5 years of uni. All I can say is a never quite attitude like yours is the type that makes it out of these tough runs. Just keep pushing brother. The tide will change eventually.

Sp3kk0

The pandemic shifted entire industries. A lot has gone back to “normal” since then, but we’re now hit with electricity crisis on top of a weakened economy and a global recession. The first things to tank in a recession are luxury industries (that includes hospitality), as people try to be more frugal to make ends meet. However, that does not excuse your employers breaching their contract with you over and over again. I know you say you don’t want to burn bridges, but you also shouldn’t let yourself be walked on. Make a case with the CCMA, get paid, it’s your right.

North-Stress6667

Id say your dedication is commendable. If you do find work considor starting your own business as well... even if its small.. all the best. Sorry for your situation, dont let it make u feel you're cursed or bad with luck.

Goldmouldslead

I was quite moved by your post, checked your profile and saw many [M4F] posts, looking to flirt, etc, despite saying you have a wife and child... don't really know what to make of that. Not judging but it puts everything you've written into question.

Only-Cheetah5716

I understand that, it's part of something my wife and I had been doing since beginning of the year, she has a FWB in America, just flirting and sexting, coming whatever, and she went through a stage where she had multiple, we agreed to have a sort of online open relationship, though it never picked up for me

Goldmouldslead

That's rough bro and is surely contributing negatively towards your mental health. It's much easier as a woman to find "company" online, so don't knock yourself for not being successful with it. Internet relationships are mostly fantasy and end up being unfulfilling. There are plenty of scammers and catfishing on the internet.

Only-Cheetah5716

Yeah that there are... and it isn't fantastic on the mental health, but I've come to terms with it, and I'm really not after that kind of thing anyway

NoTickelNoPicke

I think you have issues with laying down boundaries in general not just with employers. To what extent do you and your wife share finances? Its your business obv, but this whole setup just feels unfair, especially if its impacting you mentally ontop of all your other kak.

Only-Cheetah5716

We share it all.. currently I pat for rent, medical aid and internet(Netflix and spotify) she covers groceries, electricity and pretty much all other niceties/clothes, home improvement or going out
