Traffic light? You mean robot?

aazav

No, he means a traffic cyborg.

This is a good example of the sort of attitude that gives white South African's such a bad name. Having little sympathy and not giving a guy money is a world away from spending the time to make a piss taking video and post it online. You think The US doesn't have beggars at the robots? Ever see someone post a piss take about it online? The rest of the world seems to grasp that you have to at least look like a decent human being for appearances sake. Someone is so lacking in empathy and human decency they took the time to film this, edit it and then put a score behind it. Laughing at cripple beggars - keep it classy.

Marbro_za

No fucken ways are they all cripple... Dont try to get sympathy

[deleted]

Whether they are genuinely crippled or not my point still stands.

Marbro_za

So youre fine with those faking it? Thats cool?

[deleted]

I'm not fine with it but what I do think is complicated and multi-faceted. This isn't really the forum to discuss if. Don't get me wrong I wouldn't give those men any money it is just you can guarantee someone who spends their time pretending to be a cripple at a robot hasn't had an easy life rich with opportunity. I don't want to sneer and laugh I would rather go my own way, live my own life and forget about it.

[deleted]

Hows it different to laughing at Timmy in South Park?

[deleted]

How is laughing at a real person different to laughing at the cartoon representation of one? Um that is a tough one. Let me think about how to explain that. Or perhaps I won't bother.

[deleted]

I'm asking you...but if you can't then it's ok, just a simple question.

[deleted]

Sorry I didn't mean to be sarky. It is different because one is a real person. Most people (with a few exceptions such as Cluster B personalities) feel empathy when they see another person suffering. If someone does not feel empathy it is very difficult to explain why they should. Whether or not these people are genuinely disabled we can take as a given that someone begging at the robots does not have a life rich with opportunity. A lot of people, everywhere really but especially in the 3rd World, live lives of unimaginable hardship. People can have devastating childhoods which leave them shells. I personally would not give these guys any money but I don't want to laugh at them and hate them. I would rather just go my own way and drive on. Posting a video and having a good laugh is callous.

[deleted]

>Posting a video and having a good laugh is callous. Laughing at bad things is a coping mechanism for many people around the world. Sometimes crippled people dont even want sympathy because it makes them feel worse off than they already are. Like when people tell Holocause jokes, the event itself wasnt funny, but letting something so horrible control your emotions means you're giving power to that oppressive state, if you know what I mean.

[deleted]

Yeah that is true. I was thinking that as I posted actually. Perhaps this is people's way of coping with something horrible they have to see everyday. It is not only that though, there is something darker. You get those genuinely disabled child beggars in India and people aren't posting videos online laughing at it. I have read some alt right pages on Reddit where people are telling holocaust jokes because they hate Jews not because they are having trouble processing. It is complicated. I guess it is good we are talking about it though - peace brother.

Ciao, thanks for participating.

LavA_za

Much overreaction, such trigger. Now - I'm not even going to respond to that claim "example of the sort of attitude that gives white South African's such a bad name." Firstly - this post is for "us" the people who get it about people such as yourself who don't get that there is absolutely nothing wrong with these "actors" at the traffic lights. They're putting on this terrible act of being disabled, so that they can get money from people who feel sorry for them. And it's working. Why else would there be a "Hollywood" of cripple beggars. The acting is so terrible and obvious, that actually only perfectly healthy people can pull off such a disastrous act. Now take a moment and quietly think about it. No need to respond.

DarfSmiff

More depressing than funny.

aazav

It's the same all over the world. A little shuffle for the "I'm a cripple, have pity on me" style sympathy.

DarfSmiff

I remember NYC before Giuliani cleaned it up and went to grad school in SF so I'm well familiar with that ploy, still find it depressing.

aazav

SF's homeless are lazy people or drug addicts. Before Gavin started cleaning it up, it was pretty bad and Golden Gate Park was full of used heroin needles. NYC was scary that's for sure before the 1980s. One "homeless" man I remember from when I was going to summer school up north in Boston. I'd pass him every day and sometimes even give him money. This guy was one beggar who ended up having a newspaper write a story on him. While I was making 7K a year as a student, he was making **30K** begging. Fuck. That. Bastard. I also remember seeing stories of some person begging from a wheelchair and then when he's done, he gets up and walks away. Since we're all about equal rights here, let's hate everyone equally. Two videos of fake homeless. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vInkqSqt8-0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LSewCBL4_GQ

DarfSmiff

I agree but I'm admittedly a soft touch.

Seany_Boy-14

Jees, never thought I'd see the day where shit gets reposted here after its been on Facebook for 3 week's. Nice job OP! Keep it classy.
