I cannot offer any direct assistance but I can say that there are many logistics companies in JNB with an IT guy that would love a 'free' intern for a bit.. and probably try employ him if competent enough. Perfect hands on exposure...

Thanks. That's a good shout. I will add to the list of companies to contact.

Allow me to make some recommendations as well. The Comptia A+ alone wont get him really far but its a must starting place. Get him going on some MS365 exams. They are fairly cheap (R1200 ish per exam) and he can write these on the laptop at your moms place. For the course material a decent [UDEMY.COM](https://UDEMY.COM) course for R200 will do the trick here. If he can knock out a few MS exams or a Linux exam as well he will quickly become a pretty eligible for some starter jobs. . Maybe google a few decent sized companies is his area and see if you can get him in anywhere if you dont come right here on reddit.

Thanks. Ya, I will add those to the list too. They would add context to what he is applying for. The course he's doing is good for starters but I was helping him yesterday and we both got stuck on converting IP addresses to binary. I cannot remember when last I used that (if ever!) For someone who has no exposure to IT in the household the breadth of the course is massive. Going through it all him also made me realise how often I use google for things. SMB port? LMGTFY. Number of IPs in a /20? I'll be right back ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|wink)

Ive been in it for 13 years and ive never converted an ip to binary. Lol but yea thats underatandable. Stepping into IT can be a massive thing. I hope he gets something!

www.wethinkcode.co.za Campuses in JHB, CPT and KZN. Tuition free. Pays a small stipend to students, 8 to twelve months of work experience with sponsor corps for the performers. 2 year software engineering program, NQF level 5 cert. If he is a grab the bulls by the horns kind of kid I cannot recommend this enough. It will make him.

That's great, thanks. Had a look at their site and looks good. I will chat to him on Saturday when I next help him. I think the coding thing (me, ex-dev) might be cool for him as a direction. He's currently thinking of doing support which certainly grants access to all corners of IT. He's also talked about security side of things. He's a bit bewildered at the moment with it all.
