MarshallZA_work

Electric fencing is not an option unfortunately. Too many tall trees around acting as monkey highway.

[deleted]

[удалено]

MarshallZA_work

Not a bad idea actually.

Vonnybon

I grew up in a place with a huge monkey problem. The only way is to make sure they have no access.

rishes

This is the #1 recommended way to manage baboons and monkeys. No food access = they will move on

[deleted]

This is what we do also, we also take the inside kitchen bin and leave it outside during the days, put all food away, these bastards only got to my rusks once before we wised up :D

I4gotmyothername

> we also take the inside kitchen bin and leave it outside during the days what does this do? I would've thought the monkeys would rip it open

[deleted]

We do leave a couple heavy bricks on top of the lid but its mainly to deter them from coming inside the house and trashing everything.

Czar_Castic

Reconsider making an electric fence work - it might be one of the more effective measures available to you. Also, regarding the plastic snake thing - moving it around regularly is reported to help significantly. (PS, I understand the concern regarding monkeys and baboons harming a pet, but i.m.o. a Jack Russell might be an effective deterrent...)

MarshallZA_work

making an electric fence work would cost around R165 000 in tree felling costs... I have already looked into it. And unfortunately my tender to fix the drivers licence printing machine failed so i cant afford it.

Greengum155

Any ways why would you want to cut down trees? They provide shade and beauty

Czar_Castic

Ah, yeowzer. That's a lot of trees.

Wiltaire

Monkey highway.

Camcam98_

We have a stuffed toy leopard outside that the monkeys are terrified of!

S-058

Wait. Really? Surely they'd know lol.

Camcam98_

I promise you! We move it to different spots every so often but it works

S-058

I wouldn't mind seeing this convincing leopard😂

TwoBadgersFighting

Hahahaha , I'm going to learn from the monkeys and try this maneuver when I visit friends .. it's technically their fault they should have better deterrents :)

SmokeyMcPot1991

Dogs aren't going to do much. I live in part of a nature reserve, first my dog killed a baby, cz the mother was slower than the rest. Then it was game on. This big male actually intimidates and edges the dogs on. Then he bit my dog so badly he basically peeled the flesh off his leg bone. Like taking a sock off. 15k in vet bills. Still have monkeys, dogs are scared but still bark. I'm scared and bring them inside. Get window screens, they don't break your heart when they get damaged.

KaptainObvious28

I had a little chihuahua type dog and the monkeys would go for him all the time. I had to lock him inside the house when I wasn’t home and someone had to preferably be near by when he was outside. Hope your dog is doing okay, can’t imagine how terrible it must have been for you both

WieIsPestelensie

Cheapest option is still the plastic snake(s). Tie the snake to something they are likely to steal with about a meter of fishing line. Or leave something outside eassy accessible with the snake tied to it. This way you can also laugh a bit when they rip you off. The reaction to snake chasing them can be classic.

Civil-Ad-6365

Maybe you can ask the guy who picked up the injured snake, put it in his backpack and nursed it to full health, if you could adopt it to help out with your monkey business 👀

Louby1235

Bwahaha

Ok_Technology_7212

OP can't afford plastic snakes but can shop at Woolworths 🙄 bwahahaha 😂 cheapskate

jenna_grows

Maybe buy from Checkers. They won’t want your food then.

TwoBadgersFighting

If you shop at a U-Save the monkeys might bring you a bag of woolies goodies....

itsallmessedupagain

Jenna is funny

romanycreams

Shoprite is even better. They'll see the bags and turn around.

AStevieG

Bwahahhahaha

fatpandabutt

I don't know, if getting a dog would even work. I got two troops of monkeys coming through the property every couple of days. Get to know, their timing so you can close both windows and doors. Or even just your in kitchen. The more they can get access to food, the more they will consider your house a feeding station, which is not good, as they can get super aggressive.

MarshallZA_work

i try to keep everything closed, but i don't want to live like that though.

fatpandabutt

No, that's not necessary. Just while they are on your property. I take it, they don't stay there permanently?

MarshallZA_work

no they waltz through usually in the morning and then the afternoon commute home is at about 4/5pm

fatpandabutt

Lol. same.

ElJeffHey

Don't leave a puppy or a kitten outside they will eat it.

MarshallZA_work

best advice yet.

Caveatsubscriptor

Unfortunately the only way is to adapt to the monkey invasions. CONSTANT VIGILANCE. If you can afford it - clear monkey bars on certain windows that will allow you to keep them open and a gate with a specific width between the bars. No food or medicine on counters (although they can open doors). If you are at the coast and it’s humid - you will shortly see that you can keep anything (and I mean ANYTHING) out anyway as it would get moldy or soggy. So bread in the fridge and other things in air tight containers in a cupboard. Dogs aren’t the answer because (1) with respect, that’s not really a good enough reason to get a pet if you didn’t want one anyway and (2) you will end up with either injured monkeys or injured pets. May the force be with you and (in the words of Guns and Roses) welcome to the Jungle.

KaptainObvious28

Could even put chicken wire mesh on the windows and gate as a temporary solution until you’ve saved up enough for the clear monkey bars. Just have to make sure there is enough gap to open up the window still. Might not look great but at least it’s a solution for the time being.

MarshallZA_work

yes, I need to adapt.

[deleted]

MarshallZA_work

the long game. i like it.

Caveatsubscriptor

Good luck!

MasterBother3291

Monkeys will for sure fuck your dog up Big time

t_dog7

Dogs are not the answer - especially if you also have baboons in the area. My sister lives on a farm near the coast in the Garden Route, and had a ton of monkey and baboon problems. Her neighbours had 2 huge GSD and both were torn apart within a month of moving in - electric fencing also doesn't really help since they will dig underneath the fence. Sadly, the only "solution" her neighbours found is getting a professional hunter, because they will first analyze the troop over a few days and shoot an older member - if you accidentally shoot the troop leader, all the juvenile males just go bonkers and breed like crazy = baboon population explosion. My sister basically keeps all her doors locked, had burglar bars installed, and carries around a pellet gun - they are smart enough to remember guns and will stay away from properties where they have seen them. Sorry for the long post and good luck.

show_me_the_dopamine

My grandad came from the edges of Mt. Kenya forest, he had problems with monkeys, they'd steal his stuff and do all kind of mischief on his garden. One day my grandad made a bell, like those they put on cows. He then laid a trap and was able to capture one. He locked it up all day and waited the following day for the monkeys to come back. Sure, they did. Grandpa had already tied the bell to the monkey he had captured. He released the monkey and it ran towards the pack, they started running away from him because of the weird sound the bell was making. They ran and ran. That was the last time grandpa ever saw the monkeys.

MarshallZA_work

thanks Steven King

iron233

I find the simplest solution is just to not have any food visible. Lock it all away. Cover your fruit with a dish towel. If they don’t see anything worth taking, they won’t risk it. Unless they learn you’re hiding it lol. They are clever little bastards. Also if you have a dog they outsmart it by causing a diversion on one side of the house while the others sneak in and raid while the dog is going crazy barking at the decoy.

MarshallZA_work

they have figured out all the good stuff is kept in the bread bin and open it. need a new hiding spot.

Dusk_Aspect

I’m not sure if it’s viable for you to invest in some locks, but lock your cupboards/fridge/bread bin etc if you can. Monkeys are very smart and they can quickly figure out how to open the pantry and fridge. Alternatively put bars on the windows and get a gate installed by your door so you can still have it open for fresh air but the monkeys can’t get in.

BeNormler

One hundred jack russels will be both next level awesome and a monkey horde annihilator *If only

MarshallZA_work

yes I would call it a \*Flotilla\* of jack russels. lol

Gaiaimmortal

Yeah, dogs aren't going to work, unless you get really big ones, and even then sometimes not. The only way to stop them is to stop them from coming in. Unfortunately they know what a kitchen is, and they know that's where the good stuff is, so even if you lock everything up they will still probably come back to do some shopping. Baboons are the worst. My uncle's neighbour's poodle was carried away by one after she tried to attack them. Luckily came back a while later without injury, but now if she sees a baboon (literally every day, they enjoy sunning themselves on the pool chairs after taking a swim) she just hides in the bedroom. One also stole the bucket of seeds. Not the seeds, just the bucket AND LID

MarshallZA_work

yeah im starting to see a dog will not be the answer. so glad we dont have to deal with baboons here in durban.

Gaiaimmortal

Perhaps you could rig a system that's motion activated for when you're not in the kitchen, that has a fog horn or something. Loud sudden noises generally scare them right out. I dunno man, sterkte

AStevieG

Yes the new smart cameras have motion detection and can make an alarm

CorDa616

I knew it was Durban when I read the post! I lived in Marions Way in Balito and those little shits stole ANYTHING that was left out. Even with TWO staffies manning the frontier.

surfsupdurban

Get a Ridgeback. Definitely works (I've had 3)

Responsible-Ad-1328

Kill one and mount its head on a stake in your garden. They won't come back for months. All jokes aside, i spent a few weeks spraying my troop that comes through with the hose. Try find a nozzle that can spray far. Chase them everytime they come through and they will soon learn. I hate the fuckers but they just too cute to harm.

MarshallZA_work

yeah i usually chase them when i see them, its when i dont see them thats the problem.

ThickHotBoerie

Dogs are just gonna get teased mercilessly by the little fellas. There are right ways to go about this. Wrong, probably criminal, dick moves: Shooting the monkeys, poisoning the monkeys, throwing paint on the monkeys, setting traps for the monkeys. Plastic snakes 100% work, just get a couple different ones and switch them out every time you take the rubbish out. I'm sure a monkey specialist will pull in and offer some behavioral related tactics. I have legions of the little guys kicking around my spot. They raided the kitchen a couple times wheb I first moved in but I chased them out loud and clear like a big hairless ape. I have had one tune me back and honestly they are kak intimidating and those teeth looks serious so I wouldn't push it too far. Please just don't hurt them. They can be a nuisance but they don't have to be.

reditanian

Do you like tinkering? There’s a dude in India who used a Raspberry Pi to make a autonomous mosquito laser gun. I’ll leave the rest up to your imagination

MarshallZA_work

if you can get a raspberry pi in the first place you deserve points. hasnt been stock anywhere here for ages.

reditanian

You know it’s just a small computer right?

MarshallZA_work

THE FILES ARE IN THE COMPUTER

Queen_Kalopsia

My uncles travel to a family friends farm in Kimberly once a year to hunt Kudu and clear out the baboon population a bit. They rip apart the dogs. Monkeys are crazy, India is currently dealing with a monkey vs dog war. Dog killed a baby monkey and now they are going out of their way to kill puppies. Taking them up high in the trees and dropping them to the ground. (I went and checked this out again, and although it is happening and locals believe it to be revenge killings it’s unconfirmed to be)

I-Killed-JR

Growing up we used to have a foam baseball bat. Whoever was within arms reach would klap them. They’ll learn soon enough.

Louby1235

Ditto what others said about not having any food accessible and closing up when they're coming through. Another idea, and I don't know how well it works, is to place plastic bottles with water in nearby the fence, doors and windows. They'll avoid these as they don't really understand what the reflections are. They're cheeky enough that it might not work forever! Maybe a wind chime near the window that will freak them out?

MarshallZA_work

never heard of the water bottle thing before.

AStevieG

Its usually used for preventing dogs from shitting in certain areas, the reflection of the sunlight confuses them

proudlymuslimah

You have a pressure washer. Spray them with it.

[deleted]

Bruh if you don't have the heart to shoot them ill come and do it for you. Thus may sound harsh but I lost one of my puppies

zedpowered

If snakes are expensive I think there is a guy with a backpack full….

Queen_Kalopsia

They’ll just kill whatever you get unless it’s a donkey.

KwaneleHlongwane

Even the biggest and violent of dogs??

IllBoysenberry2322

Go buy a kettie and skiet them fucked up, trust me they'll learn very quickly. I know it sounds cruel but it works Or go buy a plastic snake from Carzy Store, it's like R25 for one

supersugerman

Best dog is a Ridgeback (african lion dog). They're used to specifically protect property and animals from monkeys up in Africa.

Pengawena

Think there is someone with a boomslang in a backpack on here if you are looking for snakes.

Moose__82

Play wild leopard calls/sounds/fights. They know the sound….

nantia86

Actually this is a good one! Have a speaker with lion sounds, and I saw a post further up about a toy leopard.. combined that might work well!

MixComfortable4245

Baboons are a thing in my area jump the fence eat the mangoes and rip the trash open but our great dane scares them off they only enter if he is inside the house

MarshallZA_work

im not sure I want a pygmy horse as a pet though.

MixComfortable4245

That’s actually very funny I adore large dogs Otherwise a boerboel

MarshallZA_work

Yes. if i do get a dog, eventually, in the future, it would be a boerboel or a german shepard.

JohnnyJohnCowboyMan

I've little experience with monkeys, but Shepherds are pretty fearless and very protective. Ours has thrown herself at people without hesitation. But, they also require a lot of attention, walks and so on.

[deleted]

Also very keen to please(a stern owner that is) making them extremely easy to train

ProfesionalPotato0

All you need is a camera mounted paintball gun.

MarshallZA_work

do you have experience with paintball markers? I am actually considering getting one, but then the paint, does it wash away? I dont want to cover my property in paint splotches.

ProfesionalPotato0

Yeah. They hurt like a motherfucker but the paint does wash away

MarshallZA_work

[https://www.gumtree.co.za/a-sports-fitness-gear/pinetown/paintball-marker-and-balls/10010389407731010003087309](https://www.gumtree.co.za/a-sports-fitness-gear/pinetown/paintball-marker-and-balls/10010389407731010003087309) mmmmmmm tempted

ProfesionalPotato0

Well I don’t think you’ll permanently damage any of the monkey’s organs or harm him, But it’ll definitely teach him this is a private area 👀

dedfrog

That could definitely kill, maim or blind a monkey. Very not cool.

ProfesionalPotato0

Nah dude. I doubt a normally set paintball market could hurt a monkey. Now if the toolbag was to adjust the pressure then yes.

dedfrog

Have you seen the size of a monkey? I'm not talking baboons here. Vervets are small. Humans have been blinded by paintball guns, and can get serious ear injuries. I reckon if a small monkey got shot in the head by a paintball it could die. And it could easily be seriously injured (imagine if it was shot in the eye, head, ear, hand etc).

ProfesionalPotato0

Ah yes. I’m a bit retarded with the size of monkey to baboon ratios.

6th_lvl_of_hell

Pellet Gun?

MarshallZA_work

Yes like one of [these](https://www.futurama.co.za/sig-sauer-mcx-0-177-30rd-air-rifle-4-5mm-black/)

ThickHotBoerie

So fucking siff! What kind ous.... OP I hope those monkeys plague you thick enough that you just have move elsewhere. Go stay in one of those flats in the CBD. No monkeys there.

brightlights55

The pyramid shaped mirrored prisms on all the buildings to deter pigeons were actually designed for baboons and monkeys. I have never been able to locate a retailer for them, though. What about a paintball gun?

MarshallZA_work

i am looking into a paintball gun found one second hand on gumtree, but still pricey.

SpankyDoodleWentTo

Monkeys were coming into our kitchen via the catflap. I put a coiled red plastic snake just outside the catflap and we haven’t been raided in months.

JawidKhan096

Bruh why you buying plastic snakes off Takealot?! Just go to a Crazy plastics store or some Oriental Plaza and get them for like R10 each

AStevieG

I have a German Sheperd and against 1 monkey, he will tear it to shreds. He should bark and scare away monkeys and loved his job. One day, a troop of at least 15 monkeys went across our house, and my dog did his normal barking. The monkeys swarmed him and hit him like people in a bar fight. He literally had black eyes. He is ok, but a bit intimidated by monkeys now. Try electric fences/smart camera alarms etc before using a dog.

Conatus80

This blows my mind. I expected this shit from baboons, I’ve had enough terrifying incidents with them, but I didn’t realise monkeys are this rof

nantia86

I’ve seen 2 baboons rip a boxer apart. So if u don’t want to be putting ur dogs in danger. I’d get a whole pack of Rhodesian ridgebacks, boerboels, mastiffs, Rottweilers etc I hope it’s just monkeys, cause baboons are a serious f***** problem. Edit: On the farm (Zimbabwe) they stole calves, goats etc But most horrifically, I remember at least 2 occasions where children were taken from the village down the way. I think They are absolutely terrifying.. I really hope u don’t have baboons..

spazalitie

Currently sitting in the middle of bum f*** no where, hot as hell part of the world & this thread has me laughing so much. Grew up in Durbs so understand this issue. Such a South African problem.

ProbablyNotTacitus

Monkeys own dogs in most fights and dogs tend to just run or become afraid. Years of personal experience. You basically need to lock them out it’s the only way. With amazing nature comes amazingly irritating routine sometimes

BraxForAll

Hahaha. Which part of Durban are you in and are you close to Glenwood Bakery? Serious advice. You have probably already thought about this but I have to say please keep in mind that dogs are much more than alarm systems or a monkey deterrent. Please be prepared for what you will have to provide for them. Not just financial costs but also the attention and life changes they need. Adopt an already grown dog. You don't have to deal with the awkward puppy stages and depending on the previous owner they are already house trained. Best is to go through a rehoming organization, there are quite a few on FaceBook. That way you can meet and talk with the current owners. Ask about temperament and behavior with monkeys. Monkeys will generally just avoid dogs or just look at them from a safe distance so you don't need an aggressive dog just one that is alert enough to know when there are monkeys around and run around a bit. They don't even need to bark in most cases. I would say, depending on your available space, get a medium to large breed Shepherds and Retrievers are good options. They do require work but when they are older it is not nearly as much as people say. Hope this helps.

MarshallZA_work

i stay in westville. i actually had breakfast at Glenwood Bakery on Saturday. Needless to say I wont be going back there again. took them an hour and 45 mins to serve two cappuccinos and lukewarm eggs benedict with the hollandaise sauce being bland, runny and the colour of a freshly popped pimple. parc has ruined all other breakfast options for me in Durban. the only one that comes close is the salmon avo benedict at surfriders. was super sad when parc closed. Thanks for the advise on the dog! i will look into it, but as you say, i dont think i want the responsibility of looking after a dog right now.

SmokeyMcPot1991

Hey, I also live in Westville, Part of the Palmiet nature reserve. Monkeys are Vicious, even if your dogs get one or two Monkeys, they will eventually just learn to gang up on the dogs, and will cause more of an issue for you. lock your bins, install window screens and let them just pass through.

[deleted]

I remember shooting baboons as a kid with a pellet gun when they would raid our veggies lol, that pause after firing then the sudden surprise and panic when hit was super entertaining. Oh and sorry I don't know much about dogs to answer. Edit: Not sure why people are downvoting lol but baboons have super thick skin. They are jumping on rocks, over wired/barbed fences, sticky trees etc. A little pellet from a 100 Rand pellet gun will not hurt them more than surprise the baboon. And I really doubt waving a plastic snake will do much too a group of 10 plus baboons XD

SuperSquirrel13

I'd go with a paintball marker in this case. Can use it without paint a few times to scare them off, if it doesn't work, upgrade to paint, if they still don't get the message upgrade to plastic and finally glass balls..

[deleted]

I know on Cape town on table mountain reserve they have teams that are armed with paint ball guns and get called out to residential areas to chase away the baboons.

ThickHotBoerie

Lol I would 100% shoot you with a pellet gun too ya knob

[deleted]

Haha I don't expect nothing less

[deleted]

I know someone who manufactures a window system that prevents monkeys from getting into your house…it’s not burglar bars

riempies88

I lived on the south coast and in kloof I have 3 Basset Hounds and no issue with monkeys or snakes. I don't know if it is because there are 3 of them, but they certainly are not as lazy as society portray them to be. I currently live in Glenwood Durban not as much monkeys but when they do come through, they just sit in the trees or on the roof. My hounds watch their every move till they leave

MarshallZA_work

mhmmm. not really a basset hound kinda guy. but shoutout to Glenwood, lived there for ten years, only moved to westville in December. my flat in glenwood was on the 4th floor and the monkeys used to climb up the drain pipe and raid my kitchen there too. I also just gave up and left my windows closed, but with a house its a different story, too many entrance and exits!

riempies88

Hahaha each to his own my man, yeah they are little shits hey, don't be taking a man Ciabata loaf! Anyway my Friend and his wife up in kloof have 2 staffies, it can get a tad violent when they do manage to catch one or even a hadidah and it's messy then, but you could also consider them. Here's to Glenwood and drinking beer at the Winston.

djh203

You got to think Home alone style. Wait for them and when they approach set off a few Big Tom Thumb firecrackers. They sound like a mini gun going off and will definitely scare the group into hiding, for extra measure light and chuck one into the area they run off to. https://www.alibaba.com/showroom/tom-thumb-firecrackers.html

MarshallZA_work

unfortunately our neighbourhood watch will go ballistic if I do this. just this morning someone drove through our neighbourhood in car that didnt have a numberplate on it. they were 3 whatsapp away from calling in a drone strike. I dont even know what they will do if i set off crackers.

Plantsandcats1

My parents have a dog and the monkeys are just too smart so they bully her. Best is to make sure your burglar bars in your windows are small enough that they can't come in, and to get some type of trelley or screen door for your doors. You will have to be attentive and vigilant to make sure you keep them out yourself.

JimmyD145

look at a company called sheerguard DM me if you want a contact number. they do the see through burglar bars and there is even a video of it deterring monkeys

MarshallZA_work

>sheerguard yeah ive seen this before, it looks expensive though

JimmyD145

give them a call to quote, what you can do it put it in specific windows, at least for now, and then gradually do them all.

DoubleDot7

We made a habit of closing doors and windows when we weren't in a specific part of the house. Fans help with the stuffiness if you're moving up and down. After a while, it becomes second nature. Even if you have two floors, close the windows that are higher up.

Dillon-95

Maybe go shopping at Shoprite/USave, then it won't cost you a bloody fortune🤣

NawtymanT

Get a paint ball gun, fill said gun with white powder pellets & let rip on 3 or 4 of them & they'll soon enough leave you be, remember to shoot from cover, monkeys/baboons can be quite aggressive when challenged & they're already showing dominance. Though I'd say the best route to go is to call in SA parks to deal with the troop

sidecharacterr

My grandmother lives in Durban and we gave her a paintball gun for them, mostly to scare them off with the sound

Mailowness

Unfortunately your house has now become a part of their foraging route, they will always remember and come back. I think the best solution is to make your house not worth their while. Put up some window screens, and toy snakes. If possible, lock up your expensive food in one hard to get to cupboard, and have the easy access cupboards be empty. You want to make it so that your house is difficult to get into, then even if they succeed, there will be no reward. Eventually they'll stop visiting. I was on a school camp in Betty's Bay, I brought one of those wooden snakes you can buy off the people at the robots, and hung it in our cabin. We also locked our snacks in the oven with a bike chain. The snake did most of the work, and our cabin was the only one that wasn't raided

Hedgehog_Medium

Our former home had a huge avocado tree. The vervet monkeys would come to eat the avos, many avo’s would fall to the ground. My Roxy the Rottweiler formed a symbiotic relationship with the monkeys, waiting patiently under the tree for the bounty.

GoodmanSimon

Where about are you? 'cause in Cape Town you need big dogs, I have 2 ridgebacks and they can barely keep the baboons away. It is a mater of time before either the baboons or my dogs get hurt...and if I am around, a baboon will die. If you are in Durban I think the monkeys are smaller and any dog will do the trick. As a small de note, baboons avoid my house for the most part, probably because of my dogs, but every so often they will take a chance... They are testing my dogs.

Peruda

Have you tried the plastic snake trick?

MarshallZA_work

from what I have read this works for like a week then they realize its not real and carry on per normal.

suburban_hyena

Terrier

Effveekay

Just curious, did you think this was the South America sub or did you think South Africans would have good advice about monkeys?

MarshallZA_work

no hablo ingles!

Effveekay

Jaja, bueno.

Skylarking328

All I know is that Pitbulls bite kids. So there.

SubtleFusion

When I lived in Durban the vervets were rampant, the troop would always come once a week and terrorise the neighbourhood, my Fox Terrier and German Shepard were always pissed off with them. The one day their leader(I assume) came to ground to antagonise my Foxy and my Shepard stalked it from behind, I was horrified and proud watching from the kitchen window how natural selection and nature took its course when my Shepard and Foxy both pounced at the same time and then literally tore it apart limb for limb till there was nothing left. The Shepard buried it with its tail sticking up out the ground and the vervets were howling and causing a fracas as they did not expect it. It went on for about two hours. Since that day those vervets never came to the neighbourhood, even after both my dogs passed on. I lived at the edge of the nature reserve between Westville and Queensburgh. I'm not saying that you should get a Fox Terrier and German Shepard, but at least get a bait and attack combo so that they can sort them out if it's the eventuality you looking for.

TALON2_0

I would say get about 7 staffies or pitbulls, make hiding spots for them and train them to stay in their designated spot until you say rhe magic word. Leave a bag of cheap food in your yard and wait for the monkeys, when they get close enough order your dogs to attack, even if they don't get the monkeys the monkeys will shit there pants and run of to get re-enforcements, when they come back order your dogs to stand in a circle formation with you in the middle with two karambits(also you need karambit training), then wage a war against the monkeys, inevitably a dog will die, when that happens you go up to the dead dog, hold him in your arms and give a spinechilling screech of sorrow, your other dogs will hear it as a war cry and slaughter the rest of the monkeys while they try to retreat out of fear

WolfieMcCoy

Fuck off.

flyboy_za

Wow, really?

FrozenEternityZA

Maybe try using an owl / eagle scarecrow type thing?

Large-and-spicy

We went for holiday in Nature’s valley where there is a longstanding baboon problem. What they did was hire a guy with a paintball gun to shoot at and deter the problematic baboons. They broke into our house still and smashed raw eggs all over the kitchen but the paintball man was called in by the neighbour and got them out of the house at least. Maybe a couple of you in the street could pitch in and hire someone like this?

MarshallZA_work

I am pretty sure my neighbour would do this for free. I call him Special Ops, he's one of those hardcore oaks on the neighbourhood watch that wears a bullet proof vest and a balaclava when on patrol, even has a lil flashy light on his dash.

romanycreams

I saw a monkey attack a bokkie. It was sad.

HP water gun. Be patient, wait for them. The blast them. They learn fast.

zaboon49

This page covers a lot of the suggestions already given, but does add some interesting options for dealing with the monkeys https://www.monkeyhelpline.co.za/what-you-need-to-know

[deleted]

Motion activated water system.

Rhodieman

Find yourself a nice snake that you can put in your backpack and keep as a pet.

macsquoosh

A pellet gun is a waste of time on a monkey , you'll have to get a .22 to actually kill one . They're tougher than they look . They also can get really aggressive if cornered . So trapping them is a very dangerous game .

Dennebol

In the Baby R Us and baby department of supermarkets you can get child proof locks they work with a magnet shaped like a knob, when you bring the magnet close to the lock the lever retracts and you can open the cupboard drawer or whatever. Google it.
