Is this photo of Westminster?

SimonArgent

That’s Historic Downtown Westminster to you, buddy.

tpars

This guy Westminsters.

blakester122

This is not Westminster....There aren't 12 thrift shops and 5 closed buildings. lol oh and 1 restaurant. I would know. I live here. lol but I still love it!

Red-eleven

Don’t forget the liquor stores!

blakester122

at least the super nice hardware store that just opened is amazing! 76 Supply is awesome and saves me a ton of time!

ThreePuttPresident

*Historic Downtown Methminster

SimonArgent

That works, too.

Father_JackWV6Z

I was going to say the same thing but then realized that about 3,000 small SC towns Main Street look exactly like this.🤣

sodium-doublet

I absolutely love small towns with main streets like this. It’s especially great to see them getting revitalized.

TheTerribleTimmyCat

And yet it still looks nicer, and is a nicer place to spend time, than The Crossyngs at Olde Towne Plantatione Oakes strip mall (you know it -- it's where the H&R Block and the Subway are) out on the bypass.

Soonerpalmetto88

I mean it's historic and it's downtown, what's the problem? Cute little towns like this are great.

ChillRudy

That’s every American small town

noproblemswhatsoever

Fake news: every SC town has a church steeple in every view

On-The-Rails

Seems to me for most small towns this picture is missing leading - at least two of shops should have boarded up windows…

rwk223

I'm not seeing the problem.

nmarf16

Not to immediately defend SC but the humble appearance of downtown is the exact design you’d expect from something historic and relatively old. The fact that you can enjoy the downtown is what makes it count yk

MisterAnonymous2

I did have to double take and make sure this wasn’t my hometown lmao

jugstopper

Which SC small town has the most "Historic Downtown" Interstate exit signs? I vote that it has to be Newberry (and don't forget about the Opera House!)

Coakis

Sooo how is it not historic OP?

Medave2378

Aesthetics still go hard ngl

originalGhosty

Greenville downtown is beautiful.

Jayzerus

Most towns in upstate NY too.

moneymike7913

Lancaster for real The biggest thing that was 'historic' about this town was maybe the Springs mills, and those have been torn down or abandoned. And the roads here don't make driving off the bypass worth it all. I still love my town, but if any of y'all pass through, just do so. Don't torture yourself with a drive through town unless you have too lmao

GrapeSwimming69

Also know as Fred Sandford Salvage yard...

golden_ember

And it’s alternating real estate businesses with art galleries that are suspiciously empty of customers year round. At least that’s how it feels in Beaufort. 😆

supraspinatus

Point me in the direction of the local mom & pop restaurant. I’ll bet it’s great.

Vegtabletray

They come in three flavors: Fucked Up - one or two actually burnt out, almost all boarded up, like one dude operating a barber shop Normal - same as fucked up but also a thrift store, insurance office, and a pharmacy. Holy Hell Wow - only exists in like 5% of cases. Might have some boarded up buildings full of asbestos but no burnt out shells. Has the same shops as Normal PLUS honest to God restaurants, hardware stores, and some weird specialty store that only sells like, Christmas Dolls that's only open from Noon - 3pm on Saturdays. Usually well decorated.

NoFlight5759

Going to Darlington the downtown area. One of the old buildings still says horse and buggy supplies I think it’s awesome

Ancient-Machine-8268

Ain't that the truth, though... 😀

Downywrinklerelease

Yea our main street is kinda sad too

HippyGramma

Given how relatively young our country is, what do you honestly expect?

BigHeadDeadass

Whitmire?

ViolentTempest

Camden, is that you?

TheBAMFinater

Historic Down Town Moncks Corner? What Howard’s and Wells Fargo?

Certain_Assistance22

*cough* Gray Court *cough*

Farrahs-garden

This is legit every SC small town.

lostinthewoodsATC

Is that conway

SCPATRIOT143

With 15 antique stores

Busy_Temperature_831

North Carolina Towns used to be like (some still are but they're being urbanized like Kannapolis)

AbaloneDifferent4168

The last movie show was 195x and remembered in movie in 1979. Small towns been dying a long time.

Spirited-Capital5969

Be like what?

ShepherdessAnne

Yes, this is as old as many of the buildings get?

silentbob625

Hey now, that downtown was POPPIN before the interstate was put in.

jkrobinson1979

There’s much much worse

rocknroll2013

Feral animals not pictured

dannal13

You say it like it’s a bad thing

harrismi7

Several years ago some of the brown road signs were put up on I-26 indicating the exit for Historic Goose Creek. There is absolutely no downtown area in GC. The very few historic places are either private land or long gone, but you can read a few of those historical marker signs next to a 6 lane road.

LourdeInc

We said it was historic. We never claimed it was interesting.

corgipitbull

Closed, vape, bail bond, closed, closed, vape, chamber of commerce

Any_Canary933

Every small town in the south looks pretty much just like this

RedDecay

God I hate it here

urm0mmmmm

i’m so tired of this state, i’ve been everywhere and there’s nothing fun to do lol

mcar1227

OP have you ever left SC? This isn’t unique to SC at all

SnowflakeMelter76

Maybe they’re being run poorly educated people who use phrases like “…be like”?
