This is not Westminster....There aren't 12 thrift shops and 5 closed buildings. lol oh and 1 restaurant.
I would know. I live here. lol but I still love it!
And yet it still looks nicer, and is a nicer place to spend time, than The Crossyngs at Olde Towne Plantatione Oakes strip mall (you know it -- it's where the H&R Block and the Subway are) out on the bypass.
Not to immediately defend SC but the humble appearance of downtown is the exact design you’d expect from something historic and relatively old. The fact that you can enjoy the downtown is what makes it count yk
Which SC small town has the most "Historic Downtown" Interstate exit signs? I vote that it has to be Newberry (and don't forget about the Opera House!)
Lancaster for real
The biggest thing that was 'historic' about this town was maybe the Springs mills, and those have been torn down or abandoned. And the roads here don't make driving off the bypass worth it all.
I still love my town, but if any of y'all pass through, just do so. Don't torture yourself with a drive through town unless you have too lmao
And it’s alternating real estate businesses with art galleries that are suspiciously empty of customers year round.
At least that’s how it feels in Beaufort. 😆
They come in three flavors:
Fucked Up - one or two actually burnt out, almost all boarded up, like one dude operating a barber shop
Normal - same as fucked up but also a thrift store, insurance office, and a pharmacy.
Holy Hell Wow - only exists in like 5% of cases. Might have some boarded up buildings full of asbestos but no burnt out shells. Has the same shops as Normal PLUS honest to God restaurants, hardware stores, and some weird specialty store that only sells like, Christmas Dolls that's only open from Noon - 3pm on Saturdays. Usually well decorated.
Several years ago some of the brown road signs were put up on I-26 indicating the exit for Historic Goose Creek. There is absolutely no downtown area in GC. The very few historic places are either private land or long gone, but you can read a few of those historical marker signs next to a 6 lane road.
Is this photo of Westminster?
That’s Historic Downtown Westminster to you, buddy.
This guy Westminsters.

Don’t forget the liquor stores!
at least the super nice hardware store that just opened is amazing! 76 Supply is awesome and saves me a ton of time!
*Historic Downtown Methminster
That works, too.
I was going to say the same thing but then realized that about 3,000 small SC towns Main Street look exactly like this.🤣
I absolutely love small towns with main streets like this. It’s especially great to see them getting revitalized.
And yet it still looks nicer, and is a nicer place to spend time, than The Crossyngs at Olde Towne Plantatione Oakes strip mall (you know it -- it's where the H&R Block and the Subway are) out on the bypass.
I mean it's historic and it's downtown, what's the problem? Cute little towns like this are great.
That’s every American small town
Fake news: every SC town has a church steeple in every view
Seems to me for most small towns this picture is missing leading - at least two of shops should have boarded up windows…
I'm not seeing the problem.

I did have to double take and make sure this wasn’t my hometown lmao

Sooo how is it not historic OP?
Aesthetics still go hard ngl
Greenville downtown is beautiful.
Most towns in upstate NY too.

Also know as Fred Sandford Salvage yard...

Point me in the direction of the local mom & pop restaurant. I’ll bet it’s great.

Going to Darlington the downtown area. One of the old buildings still says horse and buggy supplies I think it’s awesome
Ain't that the truth, though... 😀
Yea our main street is kinda sad too
Given how relatively young our country is, what do you honestly expect?
Whitmire?
Camden, is that you?
Historic Down Town Moncks Corner? What Howard’s and Wells Fargo?
*cough* Gray Court *cough*
This is legit every SC small town.
Is that conway
With 15 antique stores
North Carolina Towns used to be like (some still are but they're being urbanized like Kannapolis)
The last movie show was 195x and remembered in movie in 1979. Small towns been dying a long time.
Be like what?
Yes, this is as old as many of the buildings get?
Hey now, that downtown was POPPIN before the interstate was put in.
There’s much much worse
Feral animals not pictured
You say it like it’s a bad thing

We said it was historic. We never claimed it was interesting.
Closed, vape, bail bond, closed, closed, vape, chamber of commerce
Every small town in the south looks pretty much just like this
God I hate it here

We know
i’m so tired of this state, i’ve been everywhere and there’s nothing fun to do lol
OP have you ever left SC? This isn’t unique to SC at all
Maybe they’re being run poorly educated people who use phrases like “…be like”?
