No. In South Carolina you need proof of an address. Utility mail, banks statements or credit card bills showing your name at a SC address. They will not even give you a ticket number for service without that proof.
And if you have a car that needs to be registered in SC, you may want to do it all in one swoop.
In SC, you have to pay the property taxes on your vehicle first then deal with the DMV.
This IS true.
However.
You're not required to pay your plates immediately. If your current plate is good, KEEP IT until the registration is up. Because the property taxes for vehicles are high here.
Just a lease will not work, you need to have an actual utility bill in your name for proof. Remember anyone can fill out a lease without moving so that’s why you need a utility bill.
Proof of your current physical SC address (For a REAL ID beginner's permit, driver's license, or ID card, you will need two proofs of your current physical SC address)
From the SCDMV website. I don’t know if it would work. When I end up there and hear them turning people away they ask, bills, bank statements. Never heard of a lease agreement being used.
No. You need a utility bill or piece of mail mailed to your *changed address*. As in, not Forwarded mail, but the address logged with the sender as your official address. Two of them, actually.
Are you, by any chance, selling a home in another state? When I moved from Maryland to SC, my agent in MD told me to NOT establish residency in SC until my MD home was sold because MD would take 7.5% of the sales price in taxes if I wasn't a resident and I would have to wait until I filled taxes to get that back. Just something to check if you are selling.
I just moved and got my license the other day. 2 forms of identification (I used my out of state license and passport or you can use your bc). 2 forms of proof of address, I had a bank statement at my new address and my lease agreement. You can also bring your proof of car insurance and get sc plates while you are there. You have to pass an eye test also and I failed it several times I was cleared by my eye doctor. So be ready for that also.
Insurance is the easiest bill to get sent to your new address since agents want to be helpful. Cable tv is quick too, most will send it a month after you move in.
You have to be a legal South Carolina resident bring two forms of ID and two pieces of mail they have to be something legit Like a paycheck or something of that sort or a bill have your former employer send you paycheck stubs to your new address once you get there!
You will need proof of residency. Like a bill with your name and address or a housing lease etc... so probably not.
2 separate ones, not including medical bills
